Two people, Sheyi Alaba and Ayodeji Ajayi, have been taken into custody by the Ekiti State Agro Marshalls on suspicion of possessing and dealing in illegal substances.

According to Mr. Olamide Oni, Commander of the Corps, Ajayi is accused of dealing in Colorado, cocaine, heroin, and Indian hemp, while Alaba is thought to specialize in that trade.

Retired Commissioner of Police Oni reported that Ajayi was taken into custody at Adebabayo on May 29.

After being questioned, Ayodeji claimed to have been sent by a woman named Eya Iyin, who had given him drugs valued at N700,000. At the time of his detention, he had sold about N46,000 worth of the illegal substances, the statement reads.

The suspect, Ayodeji, a betting host who went as Babaejebu, said that he had never sold narcotics before because Eya Iyin had given them to him and that he knew very little about the industry.

Alaba was taken into custody in the Agric Olope, Ado-Ekiti, forest area.

Alaba, however, told reporters that he had never smoked before and that he had only recently gone to the jungle area to smoke.

According to the commander, the police would take over the suspects for additional inquiry and prosecution.

Following Mrs. Rose Deffi's absence from the Plateau State High Court in Jos on Thursday, when the case was summoned, the trial of the 89 National Examination Council employees who were terminated in 2020 due to allegations of certificate fabrication has been put on hold.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, or ICPC, had charged Deffi with a crime after discovering that, while working for NECO, she had forged her academic certificate.

In 2020, NECO carried out a national staff certificate verification exercise, and it was found that 89 employees had used forged certificates.

The 89 workers' dismissals were then confirmed by the Council's Governing Board, which also forwarded their files to the Nigerian Police and the ICPC for prosecution.

Lawyer for the defendant, Mr. P. M. Lere, informed the court that his client had not received any notification regarding the charge until approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and that he would be arraigned the following day, when the case was summoned before Justice G. D. Fwomyon on Thursday.

Despite the short notice, he said, Deffi was in Minna, Niger State, at the time of the call and intended to return to Jos on Thursday morning.

On behalf of the defendant, Lere then requested to get the charge sheet.

The prosecution was unable to serve the defendant with the charge sheet, according to Counsel to the ICPC, Mr. O. G. Iwuagwu, who informed the court that the prosecution was informed about the meeting on Monday but had not arrived in Jos till Wednesday.

Nevertheless, he stated that the accused was summoned on Tuesday, contrary to her attorney's claim that she was just made aware of the appointment on Wednesday.

"The defendant had no problem with us traveling from Abuja to Jos to serve her, but once we arrived, the story changed, claiming she was originally in Lokoja and that we are now hearing she was in Minna," he stated.

Iwuagwu told the court that since this was a criminal proceeding, the defendant had to be served in person according to the law.

Hugo Broos, the head coach of South Africa, will announce his final team on Thursday for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed concern about what he describes as a lack of presence discipline in the government.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that seven persons died in an accident that occurred on Ibadan-Iseyin road on Thursday evening.

Public Relations Officer, FRSC, Oyo Sector Command, Mr. Mayowa Odewo said the deceased were five elderly men, an elderly woman and a girl.

Odewo said 15 of the 22 people involved in the incident also suffered varying degrees of injuries.

He talked about the incident involving the Nissan Urvan commercial bus (registration number: SEY 254 ZY) and the Mazda commercial bus (registration number: LGB 343 XA), which resulted in crime and negligence.

Odewo said 13 injured people, including 3 elderly men, 9 elderly women and 1 girl, were taken to a nearby hospital.

He said that 4 of the 7 bodies of the victims were received by their families, and the remaining 3 were kept in the morgue.

“Officers from the Traffic Section of the MTD Police Station, Moniya, Ibadan, seized two crashed vehicles, including luggage and other valuables obtained from the exploitation of the victims,” he said.

Motorists have been urged to comply with the usual rules and regulations and comply with all traffic warnings on the road to avoid accidents, NAN reported.

Nigerian artist, Davido has heard rumors that he fired his friend and lawyer Bobo Ajudua over corruption allegations.

Recall that Davido had reportedly fired his long-time lawyer, Bobo Ajudua. News that the singer’s lawyer had been fired was reported by an internet influencer who shared a conversation he had with an anonymous person.

A few hours ago blogger SDK claimed that Davido fired his lawyer for his methods of embezzling around $370,000 and having his money stolen during his trip to Dubai.

However, Davido denied these allegations on his Instagram Story, claiming that he worked well with his lawyer. He added that when it comes to business, things can change at any time. However, he did not confirm or refute whether he fired the lawyer.
