in the words of Ahmadu Bello "When we cannot find a northerner for the job we recruit expatriates because if you employ an Igbo man as a laborer in a factory, by the end of the year he would be the supervisor of the factory"

He didn't say that.....

He said if you give an Ibo man a job in a factory, after a while, the Ibo man would prefer to take the factory from you. Is he right or wrong? He is right.

What he meant was that "Igbo man would like to take over what is yours and wouldn't want you take over his own."

Nnaa you have only just given us the meaning of ISALE and ILE.

But what is the meaning of EKO?

Oba Ado of Benin Kingdom named Lagos as Eko.

He was asked to govern over Eko territory cos Benin Kingdom was well respected and strong as at that time.

His Benin Kingdom held sway for 4 decades before Oba AKINTOYE was enthroned.
Politics / Re: Answer this question from nnamdi kanu if you think lagos is not no man's land. by GentleToks(m): 9:13pm On Aug 27, 2015
@Igbos, let me educate you fools and your mentor Nnamdi Kanu.

How does Oba Ado of Benin Kingdom named Lagos state as Eko? The Aworis who are originally from Ile-ife asked Oba Ado to govern over their territory which Oba Ado agreed with condition.......

Prior to Lagos being adopted, the settlement was called Eko by its Kingdom of Benin Connquerors, which stems from either Oko (Yoruba: "cassava farm"wink or Eko ("war camp"wink.

Benin Kingdom benefitted from this throne for 4 decades until 1841 when Oba AKINTOYE ascended to the throne of his forefathers. He made attempt to ban slave trade which led to him being dethroned.

Until today, the Oba of Lagos is the head of all the Kings in Lagos State and his status is different from other Oba's most of whom were later given back their crowns and staff of office only within the last 40 years. Those who got their crowns back were the original land owners (Olofin's children). Modern-day Lagosians have so intermingled that no single tribe or people can claim it even though the predominant language is Yoruba.

The present day Lagos state has a higher percent of this sub-group who allegedly migrated to the area from Isheri along the Ogun river. History has it that the Awori were actually from Ife, the cradle of Yorubaland. The Awori people are a peaceful people initially not taken to warfare. Due to war, those from the hinterlands, like the Ekiti, ran towards Isheri, which at that time had more than one Olofin (Alafin)who were heads of settlements about 1400AD.

With the fleeing people from the hinterlands most of them scattered again, some to Iro, to Otta, Ado, others to Ebute Metta i.e. three landing places - Oyingbo, Iddo Island and Lagos Island (Eko). The Olofin that brought those who went to Ebute-Metta was Ogunfunminire later known as Agbodere. With the full commencement of the war about 2000 moved to the nearest island of Iddo, others to Otto Awori or Otto Ijanikin towards modern-day Badagry. Those from Ekiti Aramoko came to Ebute-Metta, Iddo and then Ijora.

After the demise of Agbodere, the name Olofin became the name used to remember him while a title of Oloto was given to his successor. With one of his sons becoming the Oloto his other children parted ways to what is known as visible settlements in present-day Lagos.

Until the coming of the Benins, Lagos's geographic boundary was Lagos Mainland. Lagos Island, the seat of the Oba of Lagos, then consisted of a pepper farm and fishing posts. No one lived there. The name Eko was given to it by its first king, Oba Ado, during its early history; it also saw periods of rule by the Kingdom of Benin.

As at that time, no tribe within Yoruba Nation could lay claim to Lagos cos most of them migrated to Eko as a result of wars.

Finally, Eko has developed over the years just like any other Kingdom I'm Yoruba Nation with their own subjects.

eko means "war camp" in Bini, Bini people named Lagos. What's the yoruba name for Lagos.

You are a fool like your mentor called Kanu.

Why don't you ask the Binis to lay claim on Lagos if truly Lagos state is theirs?

Go to the website of Lagos state govt and see the names of all late Obas of Lagos state and see if your forefathers are among fool or Binis

I don't know about the north, so I can't say anything about their "oil". But I can tell you that, anambra has oil and is been drilled now as I type this in Nri.

If Nri, which is alittle bit far away from the riverine areas can boast of oil, then what will you say about umuleri and aguleri. The problem we have in Nigeria is that we judge issues based on tribe. But its all good.

You are so civil in all your submissions and i must say i love you regardless our differences.

However, they are free to leave for Bayelsa state whenever they choose to.

The only information u get is the one that's available to you. I understand you.

Anambra state has oil and from the nature of their soil, it will be much. They have close resemblance to the riverine areas, so its difficult for you to remove from the oil business.

Secondly, anambra state has started the exploration of oil now in Nri part of anambra state. So, what you're saying is false. The region around umuleri and aguleri is still in dispute but there is oil all over the region.

I am not saying you shouldn't continue hating, if it makes you understand the region well, its good for you.

Even Northerners have equally claimed that there is oil all over their region if enough energy could be channelled towards its discovery. I love that my friend, keeping your fellow Igbos on forlorn hope that would soon be dashed.

If Ijaws in Ondo state want to go to Bayelsa state, I don't think there is any law in Ondo state that stop them from moving to their land in Bayelsa state.

However, we Ilajes and Ijaws have never had any problem in the past, not now and the future. Igbos are the ones coming up with all this as a result of their failures to match up to what Yorubas have become today.

Coming from someone who voted Buhari because Tinubu asked him to do so. Look your suggestion is a nice one but Nigeria will have to first abandon all oil resources from igboland before we take your suggestion seriously. Until the zoo called Nigeria begins generating its revenue solely from cocoa in yorubaland and groundnut from the north, your suggestion is as irrelevant to us as Buhari presidency.

The oil in two Igbo states is not up to 40% of oil in Ondo state alone. Lagos is now in the league of oil producing states but yet to be recognised officially.

We long saw this coming. It is astonishing how predictable the cow herder actually is. No wonder the people of the East, were so adamantly against his presidency. They know Buhari as a tribalist mascurading behind the Arab religion called Islam.

Where are the one Nigeria crew to check Buhari excesses?

When IPOB starts, please forever hold your peace. They are acting well within their right, as there are limits to human endurance.

Why are you wailing? You hate a man and the same hate you back, what is the crime in that?

IGBOS are fools. Igbos is the only humans on earth who want to show you how much they hate you but want your love in return for the hate. Who does this for God sake?

Igbos should be smiling if truly that Igbos have predicted that things would turn out like this cos you already knew how tribalistic this man was(is). So why wailing?

Who could be more tribalistic than Igbos in this country? The reason why Igbos are feeling bad about all this is the fact that Igbos are being fed with their own medicine which is tribalism. Igbos are synonymous to Bigotry, Nepotism and Tribalism.

It's killing them to see or being subjected to the same treatment they have subjected others to in the past and still love to subject people to.

If you are a thief; it's easy for you to identify one and hate to see your belongings stolen.

It's obvious to the blind that Igbos remained the most tribalistic tribe in Nigeria since pre and post independence.

Haven't you seen that Igbos region is the only region in the history of this country where others have never, never and never been appointed into any states/regional cabinets unlike North and Niger/Delta, North as whole and West where Igbos have been given chances to be part of their system?

Nigeria is indeed a lawless country and I dont blame Nnamdi Kanu for calling it a zoo undecided

As an individual, does Nnamdi Kanu and your likes sound like sane people? I presumed your answer is No.

If Nigeria is a Zoo, what would you then called Eastern part of Nigeria-Igbos Land with all the atrocities being committed at every passing hours in that region? Animals Kingdom i guess and Animal Kingdom is as good as Zoo but Zoo seems better cos the animals in Zoo are well catered and looked after.

There is adage that says when you point a finger at a person, the remaining four fingers would definitely point at you. Who live in Aba as dirty as it's? Igbos?

Who live in Sabo Gari in Kano? Igbos?

Who are the shop owners in Ladipo and Alaba? Igbos

How come these aforementioned places are dirty? Is it a government duty to sweep or clean your environment for you? No Igbos. What does this make Nnamdi Kanu and his fellow Igbos, animals.

Who are the people that have been governing the Eastern part of Nigeria-Igbos region? Igbos' governors without appointing any other tribes to their cabinets in the last 16yrs. So who are the people responsible for your migration to where you are being tolerated all over the country and outside the country? Your fellow Igbos' governors. What does this make Igbos? Animals in animal farm.

Where is the only region in Nigeria where political thieves and drug carriers are being celebrated and worshipped? Igbos part of the country? What does that make Igbos? Animals in animal Kingdom.

I think it's pretty evident to you that Igbos are the architect of their own irredeemable misfortunes.
