PoliticsRe: A Top Nigerian Cardiolosgist Has Been Named Among Top Cardiologist In New York. by gerald28(op): 1:40pm On May 27, 2012
My dear people of nigeria, i thought they say they nigeria is made up of 260 tribes, so why is it that this igbo and Yoruba people are more successful in their area of endeavor, whatever they put their hands in succeeds. What is an Ijaw man doing? what is Berom dong? what is Itshekiri doing/ what is Uhrobo doing? what are the remianing 258 tribs doing that they allow these group of people dominate in everything both outside and within the country. My heart bleeds for this country, is it that other tribes, mine inclusive are not capable intellectually. If it is not Yoruba today it is Igbo tomorrow, if it is not Igbo tomorrow is is youruba. Are they the only people that are educatedhuhhuh What could be the reason for this ugly trend, yes ugly trend, how can a country of 260 tribes be so unproductive that it is only two tribes are making waves in and outside the country. We must look inward and see where our problem lies. This is not something to keep quiet about, we must adopt an austerity measure to nudge the rest of the tribes into productivity and usefulness for to good of humanity.
PoliticsA Top Nigerian Cardiolosgist Has Been Named Among Top Cardiologist In New York. by gerald28(op): 11:30am On May 27, 2012
A top Nigerian cardiologist based in New York, Dr. Oluyemi Badero has been named among the top interventional cardiologists in the United States, according to a prominent rating organization for the medical profession here.
Castle Connolly, the organization which publishes an a leading annual publication of distinguished US doctors has listed Badero among the top US doctors based in the New York metro area which includes New York, New Jersey and Connecticut states.

The publication which is the 15th edition and dated 2012 was released recently, reporting that Badero, who earlier had been named among top US cardiologists, is one of the interventional cardiologists to reckon with in the US. Interventional Cardiology is deemed a rarefied specialty in medical practice, and fewer African-Americans and blacks are qualified in that field.

Commenting on his listing this year by the Castle Connolly list regarded as eminent among US medical professionals, Dr. Badero said the recognition will further spur him to do more and do better, adding that “I feel highly honored.”

Badero is among a handful of US Black doctors and Nigerians on the Castle Connolly list. Some of the other Nigerian doctors who have featured on the list include Professor Ferdinand Ofodile, Dr Ola Akinboboye and Dr Chukwuma Okadigwe.

Badero’s training in Africa was noted in the publication, as he graduated with an MBBS in 1984 from the then University of Ife. However it added that Badero had two residency programs in the US both at the State University of New York between 1990-1994. It was also highlighted that Badero had two post-residency fellowships at SUNY and Yale, between 1994-1998.

Besides, the publication also noted his three levels of America medical board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.

The publication stated that the process of selecting the top doctors "begins with the identification of a selected pool of board-certified physicians from the total numbers of doctors practicing in a given area." The process involves a survey of already distinguished and leading physicians and hospital CEO's and medical directors, who are asked to nominate top doctors on an annual basis.

Moreover, it is noted that selection is predicated on an extensive nomination procedure and a set of standards "which each nominated doctor was required to meet ie respect of their peers and academic excellence."

Specifically the nominees are asked to suggest names of doctors, "especially those to whom they would refer their patients and their own family members." The publication noted that only doctors who deliver outstanding patient care" are chosen

Badero, who has also won acclaim in the community both Nigerian and American communities including US churches, one of which awarded him “The Knighthood” by Knights of Columbus, an organization of the Catholic church. He was inducted into Knighthood by Knight of Columbus and earned the admirable title of "Worthy Sir Knight, Dr Oluyemi Badero"

Besides, his private practice, Dr Oluyemi Badero, a board Certified Interventional Cardiologist was the Chief of Cardiology at Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital, South Shore, New York between 2003 and 2007, and also Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn. He is the President and CEO, Cardiac Specialists of Brooklyn, LLC

Few years ago, the 108th session of the US Congress praised Badero’s “outstanding accomplishments in the field of medicine,” and “one of the very few African-American specialists in his field.”

In that Congressional Record submitted by US Congressman Ed Towns, it was stated that “Badero has reached the highest levels of medicine in our country, all the way from Nigeria, and he has used his expertise to improve the lives of his community.”

Badero himself noted that “when you are devoted to do your very best, the recognition will come,” he says adding that “if you seek the kingdom of excellence, everything else will follow.”

According to him however, “success is what you do to others, not just for yourself.”

Badero who is in his early 50s, was also listed among the top 50 US and Canada-based Nigerians recognized by Nigerians abroad during Nigeria’s 50th independence celebrations in 2010.

All is ready for Anambra State to join the league of oil-producing states in the country, as Orient Petroleum Resources Plc is to commence the production of crude any moment from now. Chairman, Board of Directors of the company and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, announced this while inspecting the company’s facilities at Aguleri Otu with Governor Peter Obi, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Managing Director of Orient Petroleum, Engr Emeka Nwoawka, Igwe Peter Anukwu of Mbaukwu and other stakeholders yesterday.

Anyaoku said the company was ready to start production of crude in a couple of weeks, which would mark the first time crude is produced in inland basin in the country. He disclosed that the company’s service contractor had made significant progress in the acquisition of high resolution 3D seismic data over 640 square kilometres of Orient’s oil blocks OPL 915 & 916 to delineate the full extent of the hydrocarbon discoveries and prospects.

The team also inspected the 20-kilometre access road to the oil wells and the 10-kilometre flow line for evacuating crude to a spot at Anambra River basin, from where evacuation of crude will be undertaken by barges to Brass in Bayelsa State.
The company, according to Anyaoku, had equally finalised the detailed engineering and sourced the modules of its 55,000 bpd refinery. It had also completed the geotechnical, geological and hydro-geological surveys and civil engineering works for installation of refinery equipment.

Orient Petroleum had also completed acquisition of seven hectares of land from Kogi State for establishment of depot for distribution of petroleum products from the refinery to the North and other parts of the country.
Conducting the delegation round the facilities, the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum gave assurance that Anambra would soon join the club of oil-producing states. He thanked Governor Obi for his interest in the project and appealed to him to continue to support it. He said the drilling environment conformed to international standards.
Responding, Obi commended the Board of Orient Petroleum for its resilience and determination to bring the project on stream. He said that when functional, the company would, among other things, create employment, fast-track overall development of the host community as well as contribute in strengthening the State and national economy. He assured of continued government support for the project.
Earlier, the Board of Orient Petroleum Plc had paid a courtesy visit to Governor Obi at the Government House before proceeding on the inspection
PoliticsFulani Herdsman Chops Off Vulcaniser’s Hand by gerald28(op): 10:23am On Jan 30, 2012
Pandemonium gripped Akure, the Ondo State capital recently when a Fulani herdsman allegedly chopped off the right hand of a vulcaniser, Mr. Deji Adeleye in Akure during a misunderstanding. The incident, which occurred at Ayedun area of Akure recently threw the entire community into confusion as people feared possible attack from other Fulani herdsmen grazing their cows in the area.

Daily Sun gathered that the victim, a vulcaniser in Ayedun quarters and some carwash owners had warned the herdsmen several times to stop grazing their cows in their business premises. It was learnt that the herdsmen turned deaf ears and as a deliberate way of causing trouble the herdsmen changed their movement to the place from twice in a week to daily routine. Apparently angered by attitude displayed by the herdsmen after several warnings, Adeleye and other people chased the cows out of the area.

The herdsman, it was gathered who did not show any sign of annoyance when his cows was chased away later came back when many people had left the area and chopped off Adeleye’s hand with a sword. It was gathered that the Fulani herdsman wanted to behead Adeleye but the vulcaniser escaped by whickers as he used his right hand to block the herdsman’s sword.

An eyewitness and a relation to Adeleye, Olorunlogbon Ajayi quoted the victim to have said: “The herdsman moved stealthily towards me and drew out his sword with the intention to behead me. I raised up my hand to protect my head, but had my hand chopped off.” The victim was rushed to a private hospital while the herdsman ran away when some youths around the area wanted to lynch him.

Efforts made by our correspondent to speak with Adeleye where he was receiving treatment proved abortive as security operatives did not allow visitors to gain access to him except few of his family members. The security agents, in a bid to prevent the victim from speaking with the newsmen moved him from the hospital to another private hospital within the Gbogi axis and only doctors and a nurse were allowed to have access to the victim’s room while the security operatives were giving the medical officers close monitoring so that they would not use any device to take the photograph of Adeleye.

Also efforts made to interview the wife of the victim when our correspondent approached the woman for comment proved abortive as the woman first denied being the victim’s wife but after much pressure she admitted being his wife but declined comment on the incident. It was further gathered that the herdsman had fled the area and all efforts made by the police and other security operatives to track him down had not yielded any positive result.
The state government had directed the security agents to manage the situation so that it would not degenerate into inter-tribal clash.

The victim, it was reliably gathered had also been promised N5 million as a compensation by some politicians in the state to start a new life after living the hospital.

A Yoruba man had his hand chopped off my Fulani Herdsman? can this happen to any other part of our country apart from Yoruba land? My fellow Yorabas lets wake up and fight this devils called the Hausa/ Fulanis. Can anybody in the house please suggest the way to stop Hausa's and Fulani's bullying us in our own land.
