The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says it has procured gadgets to facilitate the participation of the visually impaired candidates in its Computer Based Test in March.

The Head, Media and Publicity of JAMB, Mr Fabian Benjamin, made the disclosure in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.

According to the statement the development is to ensure that no category of persons is left out during the forthcoming 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on the all CBT mode.

“The computers which are called Braillenote Apex is procured to ensure that the visually impaired candidates are all accommodated in the 2015 CBT.

“It will enable the visually impaired to read and answer questions via voice or Braille, hence making the examination all inclusive for all categories of candidates,” it said.

The statement said the Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, took delivery of the equipment.

It quoted him as saying that Braillenote Apex reiterated the determination of the board to give all categories of candidate equal chance, regardless of their challenges.

The Braillenote Apex was acquired from an international software giant, Humanware, which is based in Europe.

It said that Ojerinde pointed out that the use of the Braillenote Apex was an attestation to the fact that the CBT was achievable by all categories of candidates irrespective of any disability.

The statement noted that arrangements had been put in place for the implementation of the CBT.

Nigeria’s most modern stadium, the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, has been nominated for the 2014 Stadium of the Year award.

According to a press release from StadiumDB, which keeps a database of stadia worldwide, the newly built Stadium in Uyo, nicknamed “Nest of Champions”, is among venues nominated for the award.

A breakdown reveals that the current edition includes 32 major stadiums opened in 2014. Eight are located in Brazil, three in the USA, while Hungary and Poland each have two nominees.

“It’s great to see a new stadium for Nigeria to be proud of. Its white outer cladding and illumination also make it stand out globally and become a true landmark for Uyo,” Grzegorz Kaliciak, founder of StadiumDB.com, organiser of the competition, said.

Officially opened on November 7, 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Akwa Ibom International Stadium is set to be the new hub of sporting activities in Nigeria even as the Super Eagles have already adopted the stadium as their new home-ground, same as the U-23 team, Dream Team VI.

Seen as a largely transparent award, stadium enthusiasts from around the world have been accorded the chance to select their Stadium of the Year.

“Each internet user may vote only once by selecting five most favourite stadia. Within the first four days over 25,000 people have given their vote through dedicated online platform. The vote is open until February 17,” the organisers said in a press statement.

“A separate vote is run by the competition jury, consisting of famous architects from five countries. Bob van Bebber and Mike Bell from South Africa designed stadiums of the 2010 World Cup, while Bruno Campos from Brazil was one of the architects of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The jury also consists of John Bontinck (Belgium), Bryan Roe (Ireland) and Serban Tiganas (Romania).

The Public Vote and Jury Vote awards will both be announced on February 19.

The Stadium of the Year is held every year in January and February by Stadiony.net and StadiumDB.com, two websites dedicated solely to sports stadiums. The current edition is already the fifth one. Previous winners include Aviva Stadium (2010), PGE Arena Gdansk (2011), Gremio Arena (2012) and Ghelamco Arena (2013).

A fan is so obsessed about Liverpool FC that she went ahead to name her 4-year old daughter ‘YNWA’.

It’s even more interesting that the person in question, Eirin Isabel Iversen is a female and according to her, her husband initially planned to name the child ‘Gerrard’ but upon discovering she was expecting a girl, opted for the slogan of his favourite football club – ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’

While speaking with Norwegian newspaper, Dagbladet, she narrated the incident:

‘I’m probably not as interested in football, but it was actually my suggestion to call her YNWA, my husband suggested Gerrard before we knew if it was a boy or girl.’

She later stated that ‘Karoline’ was added to the YNWA in order not to cause confusion for her friends.

‘Her name is Karoline YNWA, ‘We could not really force her to cheer Liverpool, but she is very proud of her name.’

According to reports, the she and her husband are planning to bring their daughter to Anfield, Liverpool’s home ground in May to watch Liverpool play for her 5th birthday celebration.

Ahead of February 28 governorship election, the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha is now wooing the Pentecostal clergies with the sum of N10 million to vote for him and his party.
 
Okorochas who hosted over 600 Bishops and pastors at the Sam Mbakwe Expanded Exco hall, Government House, Owerri begged them to forgive him for demolishing some of their churches last year.
 
The meeting, our source said, became very rowdy when Okorocha announced that the government had paid compensations to the affected churches which was quickly debunked by the pastors.
 
He however pleaded with them to convince their followers  to vote for him, assuring them that his administration would allot lands to them free and Certificate of Occupancy issued to them without further delay.
 
In a related development, Okorocha at every campaign rally promised the reward of N10 million and N20 million respectively to any boot or community that gave his party the highest number of votes cast.  He also promised to release N50 million and a brand new bus to any ward that gives the party the highest number of votes.
 
Daily Times earlier reports that, Nkechi, the wife was not left out as she held meeting with the wives of the Traditional Rulers in the State urging them to woo the women on their side.  She parted with undisclosed amount of money during the meeting.
