What stella wrote on her blog: This is a big disgrace to the University i graduated from!!! A big disgrace to those in charge at the University of Benin!!! A big disgrace that a University in Nigeria looks like this!!! TUFIAKWA! What the suppose sender(source) attach to the photos: ''Our 500level class is gushing out water, We swim everyday in the class... The pipe developed a fault and the department hasn't been able to do anything about it and we are receiving lectures inside the class as though it's a normal occurrence ,We aren't even supposed to be receiving lectures in a lab of all places. The lackadaisical attitude of the department is hurting the students more and more everyday. We need help ,We can't go on like this''. We swim everyday in the class ? Lol. I just had to laugh. It all so fake and untrue. I wonder what the source hope to achieve with this post. Dear Stella after raining insults on the university you claim to finish from, I hope you will be pleased to know that the story is FAKE http://www.getgripng.com/2016/06/big-disgrace-to-stella-dimoko-korkus.html?m=1 |

I got this troubling message today from Eddy Ogbemudia a student of the university of benin about a student Ejiro Diachevbe(photo above) who is currently down with avascular necrosis. Read reports and email attachments below. N4m stands between him and losing his hip joint to avascular necrosis, which he contracted last year. Ejiro Diachevbe, a 300-Level Economics and Statistics student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), needs the money for a corrective surgery, EDDY UWOGHIREN (300-Level Medicine and Surgery) writes. He is known to be energetic. But, in the past seven months, Ejiro Diachevbe, 22, has been bedridden, battling to live. The 300-Level Economics and Statistics student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) risks losing his right hip joint to avascular necrosis. Avascular necrosis is a medical condition caused by death of bone component due to interruption of blood supply. It often leads to destruction of bone surfaces. Ejiro struggled to walk as he moved from the first floor of Regina Idiado Villa, his hostel in Ekosodin area, to the ground floor to fetch water. When his neighbours rush to take their bath in the morning, Ejiro needs to wait because he does not have the energy to join in the scramble. His friends have become his cook; they take turns to prepare his meal. “The last seven months have been a sort of hell for me,” he told CAMPUSLIFE last weekend. According to him, he felt a sharp pain in his hip last year and went to the university health centre where he was treated. To his surprise, the pains returned a few days after. He returned to the clinic and was referred to the Department of Orthopaedic and Traumatology of the UNIBEN Teaching Hospital (UBTH). At the hospital, Dr A.O Ogbemudia, a consultant, advised him to do an X-ray scan of his hip. The scan, he said, was conducted by a Consultant Radiologist and Sonologist, Dr A.I. Akhamacuna, at the Benin Radiological Services (BRS) in Uselu. The report reads: “There is some deformity with flattening of the right capital femoral epiphysis associated with partial fragmentation. The iliac, pubic and ischial bones are intact. Findings show avascular necrosis of the right femoral capital epiphysis.” Ejioro said: “When I took the X-ray report to Dr. Ogbemudia, he confirmed I have avascular necrosis and that I require N4 million for corrective surgery. I searched for information about the condition online and I discovered that the disease has to do with compromise of blood flow to the hip joint and can be caused by abuse of drug and alcohol. The only drug I take without doctor’s prescription is anti-malaria pills, which everyone takes. I am a Christian and I do not take alcohol and till date, I am still wondering how I got this disease. I am just praying that God heals me of this disease.” He said his parents had spent their life savings to ensure he returns to his feet. He said: “For the past five months, I have been going for checkups at the UBTH every Thursday. This condition has drained my parents’ savings. Whenever I go for check-up, it is either I am told to undergo one scan or the other. I returned from the clinic few hours ago and spent N25,000 on drug, X-ray scan and laboratory test. The money people have contributed for the surgery is what I am currently using to manage the condition.” Two weeks ago, the doctor told him he had no time to waste on the surgery. The longer he waits, the worse the situation becomes and perhaps, more expensive the corrective surgery will get. Ejiro is at the point of deferring his studies. He said that the condition is making him to miss lectures and lose focus. He won’t be able to write the second semester examination. This piece was written by Comr Patrick Benjamin A heartfelt message; following the murder of Miss Rita Awele - a 200 level student of the University of Benin - by the Nigerian Army May I first plead for the attention of the media, the bloggers, the Civil Society Organizations, the Human Rights Community and all souls devoid not of human compassion. This is a moment of less words, for a black flag is flying over UNIBEN's head. At the moment, the Nigerian Army has served before the students of the University of Benin, a bitter meal. Yesterday, the 19th of July 2015, at about 10:15AM, those whose allegiance it is to defend our territory and protect our lives did sadly squeezed life out of an innocent student. Just about two years after the premeditated murder and burial of Momodu Ibrahim, a final year student of the UNIBEN by Mrs. Carol Afegbai (the Divisional Police Officer of Ogida police station, as at the time the crime was committed), gloom and anguish have again fallen upon the students of the University of Benin, as a reckless and allegedly drunk soldier in an army vehicle with the inscription: THUNDER STORM PATROL 28, knocked down two female students of the University. As I struggle to pour down these words, Rita Awele is gone; that promising intellectual from the department of Philosophy is no more However, this is no moment of lamentation, but of action - conscious action. A meeting of which I participated was summoned by the timely intervention of the faculty of Arts president at the Students' Union parliamentary hall, some hours before the end of yesterday. While the leadership of the Students' Union embarrassingly doubted the turnout of the students should a call for mobilization was echoed and then insisted that every students' reaction against the murder should be suspended till Tuesday, the students of the Faculty of Arts, led by the Faculty president, rejected such an unfounded position. This however spurred a loud disagreement. But finally, it was resolved that, by today, there shall be a Media Address by the Students' Union president and the Faculty of Arts president, while the general students shall be duly mobilized in free buses down to the media houses in solidarity with our slew sister. With this note, I however encourage the noble students of the University of Benin to stand up in honour of our dear sister to demand the prosecution of the culprit(s), to demand a compensation of the bereaved family and to demand the construction of a pedestrian bridge at the UNIBEN main-gate for the forestall of similar occurrence. The manslaughter of Miss. Rita is nothing less than a blatant dare of the UNIBEN students, and as a whole, Nigerian students. An injury to one, let no one forget, is an injury to all! Comrade Sankara. - See more at: http://www.getgripng.com/2015/07/a-heartfelt-message-following-murder-of.html?m=1#sthash.fVH6ztxa.dpuf |

Chiemeriem Benjamin, who had a dream of becoming a banker, has had her dreams come to a temporary halt as she accidentally killed her childhood friend, Lawrence Oloruntobi, during a minor disagreement. The incident, which took place at Iba area of Lagos, has opened a scary new phase of life for the teenager, who hails from Abia State. Chiemeriem told Vanguard: “Lawrence is my friend; we grew up together and have lived in the same environment from as far back as I can remember. “On that day, I was just not in the mood to talk with him. When I came out in the morning, he tried to make some jokes, which we would ordinarily laughed about. But I told him I was not interested in such.I went out later that day and on my way back, I saw him forcing my younger brother to play in a stagnant body of water in front of our compound. “My brother was crying out for help, because he did not want to be dragged into the water. I quickly walked up to Lawrence to stop him. He took it personal and told me he would slap me.Out of anger, I told him that even his mother would not dare slap me. He then went in to get a cane, which has always been his tradition whenever we are having a misunderstanding.I also rushed into our room to grab a knife. But my elder brother and a neighbour, called Iya Ayo, intervened and settled the matter.” According to the 17-year-old, Senior Secondary 1 student, “about two hours later, Lawrence came back to meet me, threatening to deal with me. We started exchanging words, which later culminated in a fight. “I went in and grabbed another knife just to threaten him. “Unfortunately, while my elder brother, who intervened again, was trying to plead with Lawrence not to fight with me because I am a girl, I angrily stabbed Lawrence in the chest with the knife. It was only after my action that I realized what I had done. I started calling out for help because I was very scared. “Few neighbours, who were around, responded and we quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital, but it was too late. He died.Sincerely, I never meant to kill him with the knife. I only wanted to threaten him, but I just do not know how and why I stabbed him.” Vanguard learned that the case, which is currently being investigated by operatives in the homicide section of Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, would soon be charged to court. http://www.getgripng.com/2015/04/i-didnt-mean-to-kill-my-childhood.html?m=1 |
A 23-year-old man beat his girlfriend's 18-month-old son to death for urinating him as he changed the boy's diaper, according to police. Martin Alvarado Jr., from Cicero, Illinois, appeared in court on Monday on a first-degree murder charge for the death of Edwin Eli O'Reilly and has been ordered to be held without bail. He was watching Edwin at their home in Cicero last Thursday when the toddler urinated on him during a diaper change, according to authorities. Enraged, Alvarado allegedly repeatedly hit the little boy. Police and paramedics responded to the home following a call about an unresponsive child and Edwin was rushed to MacNeal Hospital in Berywn, where he later died. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, the child suffered from multiple blunt force trauma and his death was ruled a homicide. During questioning, Alvarado allegedly confessed to the assault on videotape, the Chicago Tribune reported. An Illinois Department of Children and Family Services spokeswoman said the agency had prior contact with the family, but would not provide further details. Another, older child at the home was taken in by the Department of Children and Family Services. The girlfriend was not home at the time of the alleged attack. Alvarado was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing on Monday morning but it was delayed after he allegedly trashed his cell overnight, authorities told the New York Daily News. When he did appear in court, he was ordered to be held without bail by the judge. He is due back in court on April 28. http://www.getgripng.com/2015/04/man-23-beat-his-girlfriends-toddler-son.html?m=1 |

According to the gist, from some female students. A male porter(name withheld) in company of another female porter(name withheld) were taking their usual round through the hostel in the morning, on Friday,10th April, when a 100 female student(name withheld) was taking her bath outside. It was learnt that as soon as the male porter saw the naked girl, he told the girl to bring her bucket. At that point, the girl manage to cover herself with her towel and ran to her room The porter in response ran after her, and in an attempt to stop her, he held her towel, pulling it away from her. She was now naked for the second time. So sad... In the female hostels, before porters go for their rounds, a warning is usually given in the form of a ringing bell warning those around to be at alert. But it was learnt that the girl in question didnt hear the bell ring. http://www.getgripng.com/2015/04/shocking-how-uniben-hall-1-male-portal.html?m=1 |
