@ doktokwus, left to people like you, we should leave everything for the white man to do for us!!! leave it to the chinese, to the lebanese, to the indians, we sit by and watch others create wealth right under our nose while most nigerians languish in poverty. It is no secret that South Africans now call the shots in critical sectors of our economy while Nigerians are being harrassed in SA every now and then. But again, the likes of doktokwus see nothing wrong with that. While im all for globalisation and level playing ground for the most competent, we need to stop this bad habit of pulling down those who take steps to do what we've left for only foreigners to do.

PoliticsPresidential Tribunal: Panel Dismisses Cpc Application by gfus(op): 8:10pm On Sep 06, 2011
Here we go again! How long would the lame duck opposition continue to do this?

The Presidential Election Tribunal on Tuesday dismissed an application filed by the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) asking the panel to enter judgment in its favour.

The petitioner has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to allow it access to the biometrics materials as ordered by the court.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Mohammed Garba said that the petitioner interpreted the order of the court wrongly.

PoliticsExperts Pick More Holes In Lagos Tenancy Law by gfus(op): 10:56pm On Sep 05, 2011
Some more experts on Monday picked holes in the new tenancy bill signed into law by Governor Babatunde Fashola on Aug. 24.

They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that although the law would help residents to secure accommodation, real estate businesses might move from Lagos to other states. Prof. Pat Utomi, Director in Lagos Business School (LBS), said he agreed in principle with the law but the law would really work on demand and supply structure.

Utomi said the law should apply in two ways to give landlords the right to throw out a tenant once he could not pay his rent within three months.

According to him, the civil society must rise up to the challenges as “everywhere in the world you declare fair business practice”.

PoliticsAtiku’s Supporters Return To Pdp by gfus(op): 12:32am On Sep 04, 2011
Is the man already strategising for 2015??

Ahead of  the 2012 governorship election in Adamawa,  many supporters of  former Vice President Abubakar Atiku  are staging a return to the  ruling PDP.

The News Agency of  Nigeria (NAN) reports that many aggrieved loyalists of  Atiku  had left the party in protest over the conduct of  the PDP presidential primaries that ushered in President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s flag bearer in the April polls.

NAN also gathered that the influx into the PDP  in the state may not be unconnected with reports in the local media indicating that Atiku had directed his supporters to  work for the party’s success in the forthcoming council and governorship elections.

PoliticsWhy Pdp Lost South West – Obj by gfus(op): 11:07pm On Sep 03, 2011
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has hinged the defeat suffered by the party in the South -West Zone during the April  general elections on indiscipline among PDP members.

Obasanjo, who is the Chairman, Board of  Trustees of  the PDP, spoke on Saturday at the South-West Zonal Meeting of the party held in Abeokuta, Ogun.

“Absolute indiscipline and gross violation of  the party’s constitution was the bane of our party  during the last general elections,’’ he said.

He also attributed the poor performance of the party during the elections to strong internal strife as well as  lack of  commitment and loyalty to the party.

The former president, however,  encouraged PDP members in the zone to learn from the past and forge ahead.

“ We stumbled, but did not fall down. This is a bitter lesson for us to go back to the drawing board and make necessary adjustments.

“This is not the time to lament about the past, but to learn from it and look forward for  better party cohesion,’’ he added.

He urged leaders  and members of the party in the zone to work as a team in order to restore the lost glory of the party in the South-West.

BusinessBanks Profiteering Through Customer Extortions by gfus(op): 9:29pm On Sep 02, 2011
Me think Sanusi needs to spend a little more time checking these banks instead of all his media ops, is there anything like consumer protection as it relates to bank cos I'm not aware of any!
Some banks’ customers in Lagos are complaining of fraudulent charges by commercial banks in the use of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and over the counter withdrawals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that customers are being forced to use ATMs for transactions below N100, 000.

NAN reports that First Bank of Nigeria recently announced that any withdrawal below N50, 000 over the counter would attract transaction fee of N100.

The bank is also charging N100 on any cheque issued by customers for amount below N100, 000.

Oceanic Bank International has been charging N100 for any transaction less than N49, 000.

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) charges N150 penalty charge for over counter withdrawals lower than N100, 000.

Some banks still charge customers for over the counter transactions even when their ATMs failed to function and called for the intervention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the issue.

They complained that the unwholesome practices would force many of them to shun banks.

Mr Chris Njoku, a legal practitioner and customer of UBA, said that many customers had been complaining over the huge charges.

Njoku alleged that the banks were making profits from these fraudulent charges on customers.

PoliticsWe Have Strong Clue About Those Terrorising Nigeria -jonathan by gfus(op): 8:08pm On Sep 02, 2011
President Goodluck Jonathan says government has strong clue about those terrorising Nigeria and that security agents had been directed to fish them out.

Jonathan stated this on Friday in Abuja while inaugurating the new drivers’ licence and vehicle number plates introduced by the FRSC.

He warned that those who hid under the freedom guaranteed by democracy to perpetrate evil would have no hiding place as government was determined and capable of dealing with all threats and agents of instability.

He said: ``we now have strong links as to those involved in this terror war on Nigeria and Nigerians. We have directed security operatives to go after them no matter where they may be hiding.

Foreign AffairsGaddafi Desperate As Algerian President Refused His Phone Call by gfus(op): 8:15pm On Sep 01, 2011
Muammar Gaddafi called Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to negotiate a passage into his country but the latter refused to take his call, a local newspaper reported on Thursday.

Algeria announced on Monday that Gaddafi’s wife, two of his sons and his daughter had crossed into its territory, prompting Libya’s ruling interim council to demand that they be handed back to face trial.

Quoting a source close to the Algerian presidency, Algeria’s El Watan newspaper said Gaddafi was believed to be on the Libyan-Algerian border town of Ghadamis.

PoliticsGov. Aregbesola Prevented Flood Disaster In Osun - Acn by gfus(op): 3:18pm On Sep 01, 2011
Really?  cheesy

The flood disasters in some part of the country would have been worse in Osun had it not been the precautionary action
taken by Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, according to an ACN official.

The Chairman, Chief Adelowo Adebiyi, made the observation while speaking with journalists in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that flooding has been a perennial problem in Osun before Aregbesola assumed office on Nov. 26, 2010.

Adebiyi said as soon as Aregbesola came into office, he knew that flood might ravage the state and he put measures in place to checkmate it.

“Had it not been that the governor was visionary enough, the state would have had a flood disaster on its hand. Look at what is happening in many other states.

Jonathan gave the assurance at a meeting with Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who was in Abuja to solicit  Nigeria’s support for the country’s general elections in 2012.

PoliticsSoldiers Were Looking For Wounded Persons To Kill In Jos - Doctor by gfus(op): 5:18pm On Aug 31, 2011
Dr Stephen Yohanna, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos, has called for special security arrangement for the hospital following resumed hostilities in the capital city.

“Soldiers fired shots into the hospital during the violence on Monday; in fact, some soldiers actually entered the hospital seeking for injured people to kill,’’ Yohanna said at a post-violence stakeholders’ meeting in Jos on Wednesday.

The meeting was convened by the North-Central zone of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to review the situation and map out ways to assist victims.

Yohanna described the development as “very shocking’’ since the hospital, which is located in the centre of the city, had always attended to victims of violence from all groups.

He noted, for instance, that the hospital received 86 casualties from the Monday violence, which it handled until some were taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) after Bingham’s facilities were over-stretched.

The CMD said that majority of the casualties were victims of gun shots, adding that the 12 that died were all victims of gun shots.

According to him, “about three’’ of the victims had machete cuts.

PoliticsRe: Mamman Nur: Al Qaeda-linked Man Behind Bomb On UN? by gfus: 5:01pm On Aug 31, 2011
The State Security Service (SSS) has declared one Mamman Nur, suspected to have masterminded the UN house bombing on Aug. 16, wanted.

A statement signed by Marilyn Ogar, the agency’s Assistant Director, Public Relations, on Wednesday described the suspect as “a notorious Boko Haram element with Al-Qaeda links’’.

“Any person with useful information which could lead to the arrest of the suspect and other accomplices should report to the nearest police station, military formations or any other security agency,’’ it stated

The statement said Nur, who returned recently from a trip to Somalia, collaborated with other suspects and masterminded the attack on the UN house in Abuja.

The statement further said that the two other suspects whose names it gave as “Babagana Ismail Kwaljima, alias Abu Summary and Babagana Mali, a.k.a Bulama,’’ had been arrested by the service.

“The suspects (Kwaljima and Bulama) have made valuable statements and are being held at a military facility,’’ the statement added.

“We implore all Nigerians to be more security-conscious and vigilant,” it said.

PoliticsUn House Bombing Related To Government Position On Libya Rebels? by gfus(op): 1:57pm On Aug 27, 2011
The don called on the Federal Government to exercise restrain in its public statements on international issues.

He said the bombing of the UN House might not be unconnected with a statement issued by the Federal Government on its support for the Transitional National Government in Libya.

“Nigerian government must exercise restrain in its public statements on international issues because we are not benefiting anything from such statements.

“NATO operations in Libya is on account of the UN and government would have also realised that Nigerian Muslims in the North are sympathetic to Gadaffi as an individual,” he added.
