Barring last-minute changes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caucus meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in Abuja.

The meeting, according to a statement by PDP National Director of Publicity, Chinwe I. Nnorom, is scheduled to hold at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, by 07:00 pm.

It also disclosed that the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) are slated for Thursday, 8th September 2022, both in Abuja.

The statement read in part, “the PDP holds the following meetings: National Caucus – Wednesday, September 07, 2022, at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja; by 07:00 pm.

“Board of Trustees (BoT) – Thursday, September 08, 2022, at the NEC Hall; by 11:00 am.

“National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting – Thursday, September 08, 2002; at the NEC Hall; by 02:00 pm”.

Recall that the meetings were earlier slated for Wednesday, August 10, and Thursday, August 11, 2022, before it was postponed till further notice.

They were kept in abeyance over fear that a section of the party leaders loyal to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike would use the meetings to sack the embattled PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and propagate other interests of the aggrieved governors.

DAILY POST, however, gathered that part of the agenda for the meetings of the PDP organs is the campaign council, finance, and the state of the party.

A credible source, who is a member of the PDP BoT, told DAILY POST that the “NEC meeting will hold this week. The NEC will look at the Presidential Campaign Council, budget and finance for 2023 elections and other important issues”.

Lionel Messi saw a unique eight-year streak ended following his late substitution in Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League win over Juventus.

For the first time in eight years and 63 games, Messi was substituted off after starting a Champions League match. His streak began on October 21, 2014, and since then the Argentine had played the full 90 minutes of every game in which he had started in Europe's premier competition.
PSG beat Juventus 2-1 in their 2022-23 Champions League opener thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappe, with Messi missing the last six minutes of action due to his substitution.
During Messi's incredible run of full 90-minute matches, he won the Champions League, reached the round of 16 twice, the quarter-finals four times and the semi-finals once.

PoliticsUzodimma Seeks Support, Prayers Of Residents For Development Of Imo by ghettokid1(op): 7:52pm On Sep 06, 2022
Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma on Tuesday said the continuous support and prayers of the people of the state were critical to the development of the state.

Uzodimma stated this while delivering his goodwill message at the Imo Unity and Praise Convention held at the Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, Imo State capital.

The governor who graced the occasion with his wife, Chioma sought the people’s prayers and support for his administration saying without it, it would be difficult for his administration to achieve its 3R development agenda.

Uzodimma further said Imo State remains in God’s hands despite the challenges confronting the State and explained that God has been with the people of the State because he has never allowed the plan of the devil to succeed.

According to him,” God has been there for us- In good times and in challenging times. He is always there. There is evidence everywhere to show that the Almighty God is in Imo State.

“We were challenged- We didn’t go retaliating, we put our knees on the ground-we prayed and God answered us” the Governor stated.

Uzodimma further urged harmonious relationships between religious groups in the state for peace.

SportsChampions League 2022/23 Season: Five Teams To Watch For by ghettokid1(op): 10:46am On Sep 06, 2022
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Champions-League.jpg
The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League season is finally back!

This new Champions League campaign will officially kick-start on Tuesday night with various clubs fighting for the Europe top-flight league trophy.

The 32 teams participating in the Champions League this term have already been put in different groups, starting from Group A to Group H.

In August, UEFA announced the Champions League group stage draw, which was streamed on the UEFA website in Istanbul, Turkey.

Dinamo Zagreb will take on Chelsea at Stadion Maksimir on Tuesday night, while Dortmund will host Copenhagen.

Benfica will clash with Maccabi Haifa and Sevilla will face Manchester City.

Other fixtures are RB Salzburg vs AC Milan, Celtic vs Real Madrid, RB Leipzig vs Shakhtar Donetsk and PSG vs Juventus.

The rest of this week’s Champions League group stage fixtures will continue on Wednesday.

Recall that Real Madrid won the Champions League last season after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final in Paris, thanks to Vinicius’ only goal of the match.

DAILY POST looks at the five teams to watch out for as this season’s Champions League officially kicks off on Tuesday.

The first team will be Real Madrid, who are the defending champions.
The LaLiga champions are on top form so far this season and are yet to lose a match heading into the competition.

With the new addition of midfielder, Aurelien Tchounameni and defender, Antonio Rudiger to the Real Madrid squad this summer, the Los Blancos can challenge for the Champions League trophy.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are yet to lose a match this season and currently sit on top of the LaLiga table with 12 points from four games.

The second team to watch out for is Manchester City.
The Premier League champions are keen to win their first Champions League after coming close in recent years.

Just last season, Pep Guardiola’s side was eliminated in the Champions League semi-final as Real Madrid staged a stunning late fightback to clinch a 3-1 second leg win after extra time at the Santiago Bernabeu to clinch a 6-5 win on aggregate.

However, Man City have bolstered their squad in the summer transfer window.

The Citizens have a good chance to compete for the Champions League, having signed the likes of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Man City are also in brilliant form so far this season as they have not lost a match and currently occupy the second position on the Premier League table with a point behind leaders, Arsenal.

The third and fourth teams to watch out for are Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are yet to lose a game so far this season.

The Parisians presently occupy the top position on the French Ligue 1 table with 16 points from six games, while The Bavarians sit in the third position on the Bundesliga table with 11 points from five games and Barca sit in the second position on the LaLiga table with 10 points from four games.

PSG are in Group H alongside Juventus, Benfica, and Maccabi Haifa, while Bayern Munich and Barcelona are in Group C alongside Inter Milan, and Club Brugge.

The three teams also bolstered their squads in the summer transfer window and have come close to winning the Champions League in recent years.

SportsSome Clubs Owe 1.8 Billion Euros - PSG President by ghettokid1(op): 4:00pm On Sep 05, 2022
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi today called for rules to prevent football clubs from taking on too much debt, because debt "is a danger".

The ECA president also spoke out against the European Super League and made a veiled criticism of Barcelona for their large debt, said with no hint of irony despite the abundance of artificial injections of funds PSG receive from Qatari government to keep them afloat.

It would be necessary to "create rules that protect European football clubs" from getting into high levels of debt, insisted the Qatari during his participation in virtual mode in Football Talks, conferences organised at the headquarters of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) in Oeiras (Lisbon).

He recalled that, "during the pandemic, football survived because of the investment that was made" and that, "in the opposite case, it would not have managed to overcome the situation as it did".

However, he pointed out that "many clubs lost a lot", which led to them being "deeply in debt", and noted that there are teams that have 1.8 billion euros in debt - without naming names - and "this is a danger" for the sport, he warned.

He also pointed out that if football does not attract investment it will go to other sports. Even so, he predicted a "bright" future for football and called for thinking "outside the box", being "more creative" and generating more interest among the population.
He argued that "the ecosystem of football is much bigger than just two or three clubs" and that "it is very important that people can see that there are no elites".

The Qatari reinforced his rejection of the European Super League and defended the new Champions League formula, which, in his view, "is a success".

Jose Mourinho stayed positive after seeing his Roma side thrashed 4-0 by Udinese - but still couldn't resist a dig at the match referee.

Roma's first loss of the season
Heaviest Serie A defeat for Mourinho
Match officials criticised

Destiny Udogie, Lazar Samardzic, Roberto Pereyra and Sandi Lovric were all on target as Udinese outclassed Mourinho's Roma and climbed up to fourth place in the league table.
“My explanation is it was a difficult game, a difficult opponent that knows how to play this type of game," Mourinho told DAZN after the match. “I will say that I prefer to lose one match 4-0 than four matches 1-0. It’s tough for us and the fans to swallow, but this is life, we have another game on Thursday and we go forward."
The Portuguese added on the match officials: "When you lose 4-0, you cannot talk about the referee, but when we heard this was the referee for the game, we realised he was the perfect official for a team like Udinese to play at home. The first yellow card went to the artist of the match, that says it all."
Paulo Dybala picked up the first booking of the match in the 45th minute and Lorenzo Pellegrini was then cautioned in the 52nd minute, leaving Mourinho infuriated. Roma also had a penalty appeal turned down as they lost their 100 per cent record at the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

DID YOU KNOW? This was only the third time in Mourinho's career that his team lost by a margin of four or more goals. Previously his Real Madrid side lost 5-0 against Pep Guardiola's Barcelona in 2010 and then as Manchester United boss he lost 4-0 to Antonio Conte's Chelsea in 2016.

PoliticsDino Melaye: Unceremonious Removal Of Ayu Is Like Committing Abortion by ghettokid1(op): 1:44pm On Sep 03, 2022
A former lawmaker, representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye has warned against the unceremonial removal of the party National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu ahead of the 2023 Presidential election.

Melaye, who gave the warning while fielding questions from DAILY POST during the 75th birthday celebration of Senator Tunde Ogbeha said the removal of Ayu which is being championed by River State Governor, Nyesom Wike will lead to a constitutional crisis in the party.

While describing Governor Wike as a very responsible Nigerian who will soon turn 60, Melaye posited that the emergence of Ayu as PDP national Chairman was backed by PDP Governors including Wike.

He said removing Ayu is like committing abortion in PDP before the outcome of the 2023 Presidential election.

Melaye said “I was at the convention when he made an open promise before Nigerians on national television that whoever emerges as the candidate of the PDP, he will support that person. I still stand on that because he is a man of integrity and I am not seeing him eating his words.

“ So whatever misgiving you see, is as a result of the primary. It is normal that after any primary, there will be agitations and complaints but these are not elements that are strong enough to divide the party.

“We are not out for a constitutional crisis. Iyorchia Ayu is a product of all the Governors including Wike. That is why he is a consensus candidate. So asking for Ayu’s removal is uncalled for. Are they saying they didn’t know he was a Northerner before they gave him the consensus candidacy of the party? All the Governors, including Wike spent their money to make Ayu the National Chairman
.

“So its too late to call for his removal when we have not even conducted an election. But if and when by the grace of God Atiku becomes the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, or if he becomes President-elect, then we can now go back to the negotiation table and then treat the issue of Ayu. But for now, it is very premature and we cannot commit abortion.

When asked about the visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Ibrahim Babangida, Peter Obi, and Abdulsalam Abubakar ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, the former Kogi West lawmaker described Obasanjo as a supervisor of Nigeria who is moving round to ensure that the country is fine.

He, however, boasted that former President Obasanjo will not stop Atiku from becoming the President of Nigeria.

“I wouldn’t know why Obasanjo is moving around because I don’t have celestial power to read people’s minds. But I want to tell you that no force will stop Atiku from becoming the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” he stated.

PoliticsJonathan Should Be Respected For Hosting Tinubu Who Plotted His Downfall – Ohana by ghettokid1(op): 7:52pm On Sep 02, 2022
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/L-R-Former-Nigerian-President-Good-Luck-Jonathan-and-APC-Chieftain-Bola-Ahmed-Tinubu-1.jpg
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has berated those criticizing former President Goodluck Jonathan for hosting the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

Ohanaeze said Jonathan should be respected for hosting a man who plotted his downfall in 2015.

The body said Jonathan’s gesture should teach politicians to eschew politics of bitterness and rancor.

In a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze said all presidential candidates should focus on issues-based campaigns.

Isiguzoro said: “This is one of the nationalistic gestures that should be considered as a lesson for the political elites, to eschew politics of bitterness and rancor, and interface with everyone irrespective of whether or not there were grievances in the past.

“Ndigbo expected that all the Presidential candidates for the 2023 elections should focus on issued-based campaigns devoid of tantrums and resentment.

“We are aware of what transpired in 2015, and subsequently led to the then ruling party PDP losing to APC championed by Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu; Nigerians will witness unprecedented realignment shortly, especially in the interest of the unity of the country regarding power shifting to southern Nigeria from the North in 2023.

“Goodluck Jonathan should be respected for the role of elder statesmanship exhibited by hosting a man who plotted his exit from power.”

Isiguzoro also commended Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State for accepting to be Tinubu’s coordinator in the Southeast.

He said: “Ndigbo commended the chairman of southeast Governors, Governor Dave Umahi for accepting to identify with APC Presidential candidate Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as the APC coordinator for the entire South.”

Isiguzoro further disclosed that Ohanaeze would declare its preferred presidential candidates during the 2022 Igbo Day festival on September 29th, 2022.

“Ndigbo will make a declaration on where Igbos will vote in 2023 on the annual festival of 2022 Igbo Day holding in the ancient city of Aba, in Abia State on September 29th, 2022,” he said.
