The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that only a combination of JAMB cut-off marks, post-UTME, O’ level results and other admission criteria as determined by institutions can ensure candidates’ admission.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, disclosed this at an intensive Training and Sensitisation Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for the 2017/2018 academic session on Thursday in Abuja.

Oloyede said that scoring higher than the minimum cut-off marks did not guarantee admission but made candidates eligible for admission consideration.

He added that institutions determined the institutional, programme and course cut-off marks and other admission criteria in exercise of their autonomy.



According to him, the cut-off mark by JAMB is only a threshold below which no institution can admit candidates.

“JAMB is not an examination body rather it is a ranking body. If there are enough spaces in the tertiary institutions there may not be need for UTME.

“ JAMB is a screening body to rank already qualified candidates. It is a coordinating and clearing house.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has claimed that Igbos play what he termed as the ‘worst politics’ among the ethnic and geopolitical zones in the country.

He stressed that Hausa had realized that they can now win an election without Igbos.
He said, “Igbos have to change their strategy, in order to reclaim their relevance in Nigeria’s power equation. Quote me anywhere, Igbos play the worst politics in Nigeria.
“Today, Hausas have realised they can win an election without Igbos.”
Okorocha, who said this in Owerri, during an interactive session with top media practitioners, also condemned activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and reiterated his stance for a united Nigeria.
“Hitherto, Hausa used to think they could not win elections without Igbo.
“Now, they believe with the combined massive populations of Lagos and Kano, they no longer need Igbos to win, hence, the latest alliance between Hausa and Yoruba.
“So, where is Igbo today in Nigerian politics?” he asked rhetorically.
“I’ve always said Igbo have this feeling of abandonment. IPOB would have made better impact if they had operated under any other name other than Biafra, to push their demand for equity in sharing of the nation’s political and economic resources. The call for secession was childish.
“IPOB should have fought their struggle like the Niger Delta youths, Arewa youths and Yoruba group.
“Who is Nnamdi Kanu to ask Rochas to follow him to war?
“Check it out, no Hausa man living in the South East owns a duplex neither can you see a Yoruba man who lives in a room and parlour apartment of his own or an investment worth N20 million.

Authorities of Edo State University, Iyamho, have pulled out of the Academic staff of Universities (ASUU) strike as it has began its second semester examinations last week Wednesday.

ASUU, had on August13 2017 begun an indefinite strike over alleged failure of the Federal government to faithfully implement the 2009 agreements and 2013 Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the union.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Stephen Omodia, said the move is to among others, to achieve uninterrupted academic calendar and deepen learning and teaching of its students in the Institution.

Not less than thirty-two students of The Polytechnic Ibadan have been expelled for violating various academic rules in the institution.

Two members of staff of the institution have also been dismissed for various offences.

​Aba residents are set to remain indoors following the horrific clash between IPOB supporters and the Nigerian army.

A report by The Nation has revealed that following a resurgence of crisis between members of the Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and men of the Nigerian Army in Aba, Abia state on Thursday, some residents have remained indoors while others are leaving the city in fear.
In areas around Uratta Junction, Ariaria Junction, Tonimas Junction and Flyover Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, some people were seen carrying loads and waiting for vehicles to leave town.
Some northern youths gathered around Ariaria Junction carrying sticks and stones and so were some Igbo youths.
At Bakassi Bus Stop on the expressway, policemen threw tear-gas canisters at some youths who gathered at a nearby street.
There were unsubstantiated reports of killings and shootings in different parts of the city which has helped in heightening tension.
Dr Uchenna Anyanwu, Medical Director, Holy Wounds Hospital, Faulks Road, Aba, said that two persons suspected to have been shot in Ariaria area were brought in dead to his hospital.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a mob, who believed he was on the side of the police came to his hospital and destroyed his office because he accepted to treat some injured persons.
Anyanwu said that two injured persons were being treated in his hospital.
He wondered why the mob should vandalise his hospital when he was saving lives.
At the city centre, shop owners closed their businesses, while commercial banks halted their operations.
Banks, including First Bank branches at Abayi and Asa Road, Skye Bank on St. Michael’s Road, Union Bank and Ecobank on Factory Road remained closed.
Only Heritage Bank close to Ochendo Motor Park was open but with heavy security presence.

The girl was caught, thoroughly beaten and sent away by her madam over the act. The incident happened at Chris Idowu Street, off Idimu Road in Ejigbo area of Lagos where they reside.
