Lagos State Government has released 2,500 Certificates of Occupancy to property owners in the state. Governor Akinwumi Ambode, who signed the documents on Tuesday, said the owners must start getting the documents as from Wednesday (today). The Executive Secretary in the state’s Lands Bureau, Mr. Olukayode Ogunnubi, who disclosed Ambode’s directives, said the development was in line with the governor’s effort to clear the backlog of C of O that was carried over from the previous administration. He said, “This present government wants Lagosians to maximise the economic benefits derivable from ownership of property as evidenced by obtaining their legal titles. “That’s what we are trying to achieve and that is the reason the governor decided to clear the backlog. Now, we do not have pending C of O on our table.” Ogunnubi said the development would enable owners to leverage on the C of O for collateral to obtain loans from financial institutions. “This will also contribute to the growth of the state’s Gross Domestic Product and ultimately the development of the economy of the state,” he added. He said Ambode wanted the process of applying and getting the copy of the C of O to be less cumbersome thenceforth and also to be treated within the stipulated time. He said, “Once we have any new applicant for C of O, the governor’s mandate is to ensure that he signs it within a 90-day tenure. Once you make your payment, we’ll start the processing. Let me also report that we are going on the electronic C of O fully. All the ones he signed are also e-C of O. “The idea is to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and this is what the governor intends to achieve in line with his commitment to make life simple and easy for the people. “This is a standard milestone as the last time such was witnessed was during the era of the first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.” http://edge-log.com |
A 12-year-old Ugandan has attracted admiration within and beyond the shores of his country after he carved a Land Rover and a computer from wood. His dream to own a car might seem far from reality, at least, for now, the Mubende-born lad has proved to the world that he could improvise his goal. Kudos abound on social media since the pictures of the boy’s well crafted Land Rover and computer went viral. What makes the invention historic and commendable according to his admirers is the fact that he had not learned the technical skills of carving before he ventured into the task. “A young boy from Mubende, Uganda has invented a Land Rover and a laptop from wood. The young boy shocked his community and country at large with the historic invention and construction. According to him ‘I have always dreamt of owning a computer and a car’, exclusive joint reports. A commentator on nairaland, who goes by the monica, Sulmeza, described the boy as ‘super-talented’. He wrote, “If truly he did that alone…then the kid is super-talented…quite a creative young mind….bravo…” Another nairalander, Edet, commended the boy’s artistry and wished that he was sponsored to fully utilise his talent. He said, “The boy is creative, no doubt about it, but who’ll expose him to the world!” Pretydiva, who also joined others to celebrate the boy, said, “This is pure talent that needs to be harnessed. Nice one.” Another commentator on nairaland, who identified himself only as Mr. KontrovErsy, urged support for the boy. “Please, let them help this boy. Seriously, he has something to offer,” he wrote. A post on another online blog, myafricanow, described the feat as a product of creative minds in Africa. It read, “Hopefully he will use his prototype to start working on the real thing. What this boy needs now is support and mentoring. We hope someone is paying attention. “The boy’s brain needs to be nurtured. It just goes to show Africans are intellectually awesome and creative.” One Dai Caeser wrote on his Twitter handle that the boy had a better chance to excel if he were to be a westerner. “Perfect but in Uganda, he is no more. He would be somebody if he is an American or a European,” he wrote. http://edge-log.com

A 10-year-old girl, Eniola Sodipo, has drowned in a well on Atanda Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi area of Lagos State. The victim, who was holidaying with a family in the house, was said to be playing with other children in the neighbourhood, when the well cover caved in. She was recovered dead by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service around 2pm on Monday. The corpse was said to have been handed over to policemen from the Akinpelu Police Division. A rescue official said the incident happened in the morning, adding that the landlady had chased the children away from the well but they returned. He said, “The girl was on a holiday visit to a family in the house. She was playing around with her friends. “The landlady said she always chased them away from the well and warned them not to play around the place. She said she had returned to her room in the morning, when the kids returned to the place and continued to play there. It was then that the wooden slab used to cover the well gave way, and she fell into it.” Our correspondent was told that the other children raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of neighbours. They were said to have struggled to rescue the victim from the well without any success. The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said the agency received a distress call at 2.48pm. He said the Ikeja Fire Station was deployed to the scene. He said, “But by the time we got there, the girl was dead. We discovered that the well was covered with wooden structure. She was playing on top when she fell inside. “All tenants and landlords must ensure their well are well covered and should have a padlock when not in use, to prevent ugly incidents like this. Domestic wells should also not be parallel to the ground. Every well that is constructed with blocks, should be changed to rings.” He said the agency would start combing every nook and cranny of the state to check the wells of residents. http://www.edge-log.com/2015/09/a-10-year-old-lagos-girl-dies-in-well.html |

Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is the body that regulates the activities of telecommunication and network providers in Nigeria In August 7, 2015 NCC gave all GSM operators in Nigeria a seven day ultimatum to deactivate all pre-registered SIM Cards and those that weren't registered completely. This instruction was given just after a day that Nigeria recorded the highest number of internet users in the country which is about 88 million users. The new Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communication Commission Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta is not smiling at all and he has sworn to bring transparency dignity in the Nigerian telecom industry. Etisalatand Glo, having failed to deactivate unregistered SIM Cards (Subscribers Identity Module), or sort out unverified biometrics, has been fined N14.4 million and they were given timeframe for the payment which is September 7. This N14.4 million is going to be paid between the two telecom operators. Etisalat will pay N7 million while Glowill pay N7.4 million and failure to pay this fine before the stipulated deadline day which is September 7th will attract a daily fine of N100,000. At the moment, many Etisalat and Glo sim cards are being deactivated and more are going to be deactivated. Is your sim cards completely registered? Are you receiving messages from your network provider to go and register your SIM? Kindly check well before yours is blocked like others. http://www.gidimasters.com/2015/09/ncc-has-fined-glo-and-etisalat-n144.html dragnet honsule puskin Gidimasters Lalasticlala |
