Justice A. T Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has convicted and sentenced fourteen oil thieves to various jail terms for illegal oil bunkering.

The convicts were all arraigned on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, #EFCC, Port Harcourt’s Zonal office, on one-count separate charge bordering on illegal dealing in petroleum products, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Petroleum Act, Cap P10 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the same Act.

The count charge read: “That you Mohammed Abba, Adamu Usman and Babangida Audu on or about June, 2018, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did distribute petroleum product (Automotive Gas Oil) with Mack Truck with registration number YLA 112 ZV, without Licence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4(1) of the Petroleum Act, Cap P10 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004 and punishable under Section 4(6) of the same Act”.

The defendants pleaded guilty to their one count separate charge when read to them.

In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsels, S. Chime, M.T. Iko and C. Okorie urged the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. .

But counsels to the defendants (before being convicted): D. G Uduru; M. M Suleiman; Joseph Omogba; A.B Abdulahi and C.N.Wolucho did not oppose the prayers of the prosecution counsels.

Justice Mohammed convicted and sentenced Abba and Usman to two years imprisonment with an option of fine of N100, 000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each, while the rest 13 (thirteen) defendants were convicted and sentenced to a fine of One Hundred Thousand Naira (100,000.00) each.

They are: Babangida Audu; Chijioke Ali; Muhammad Jamilu; Umaru Hussaini; Ahmadu Adamu; Muhammed Muhammed; Mahmud Girei; Abubakar Mai Nasara; Sadiq Ismaila; Sama’ila Njidda; Mahmud Abdullahi, Chima Onuha and Ismaila Balarebe.

The Gombe zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested eight individuals for producing and selling adulterated fertilizer in Gombe Metropolitan City and Lariski village of Kirfi Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The suspects are: Usman Shawari, Adamu Abdulhamid, Dahiru Salisu and Dahiru Muhammad.

Others are Abdullahi Maidawa, Suleman Ahmed, Muhammed Aliyu and Ibrahim Musa.

The arrested suspects specialized in adulterating genuine fertilizer purchased from recognized companies like Indorama and the Federal Government fertilizer, with sand. They then package the adulterated fertilizer in the bags of the original companies without authorisation, and then sell same as genuine to unsuspecting farmers at same price.

Investigations revealed that the sand is often more than two-third of the bags content, giving it the false feel that it was more than the normal one.

Parading the suspects on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, Michael Wetkas, Zonal Head, said the Commission received intelligence report through the zone’s Intelligence and Special Operations Section, ISOS, on July 27, 2019 and immediately swung into action. The illegal factories located at Lariski Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Gombe Metropolis were raided, and the suspects rounded up.

Further investigations showed that other places where the illegal activities were taking place, include Commercial Area (Kasuwan Goro) and Gombe New Market (Kasuwan Doya), both in Gombe Local Government Area. Fully loaded truck of 600 bags and two Toyota Tacoma pick-up vans of 81 bags of adulterated fertilizer were intercepted by operatives.

Wetkas said: “We will do everything within our powers to make sure that this stops, because this is the zenith and pinnacle of wickedness of man to man, our farmers in the rural areas go through a lot to afford a bag of fertilizer and these people are there defrauding innocent farmers.”

Popular Nigerian multi-talented rapper and father of one, Ice Prince Zamani is scared of falling in love again.

Zamani took to his Twitter to reveal reasons behind his fear to love, perhaps, as a result of the trauma he had been through with women and relationships.

According to reports, the singer once dated Eva Alordiah who was his first girlfriend when he moved to Lagos in 2009.

Things didn’t work out, he moved on to Ghanian actress, Yvonne Nelson but they broke up due to busy schedules.

It seems he had a thing for girls named Yvonne as he dated the fashion designer, Yvonne Nwosu but the relationship was short-lived.

Ice Prince was also romantically linked to a French-Ghanaian lady, Maima in 2014.

Sadly, they eventually went their separate ways when rumours about Maima seeing other men broke out.

I wanted it to be perfect. I have no plans of doing this twice except for renewals of course but it had to be perfect. I didn't want a party. I didn't want people. A 40-year-old man, Ahmadu Mohammed, has been arrested by the police in Niger State for illegal possession of firearms.

Mohammed was arrested at Garatu village in the Bosso Local Government Area of the state after he was found with a fabricated AK-47 rifle and two single-barrelled guns with two cartridges.

It was gathered that Mohammed was trailed and apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the Special Anti-Armed Robbery Squad of the Niger State Police Command following a tip-off.

Northern City News gathered on Thursday that the Mohammed was suspected to have participated in some armed robberies in the Bosso area before his arrest.

In an interview with our correspondent, the suspect said, “I am not a thief or a killer. I only use the gun to protect my family and my animals from evil people, who refuse to engage in any meaningful thing to better their lives.

“I regret my action because I am not supposed to have any firearm under my roof without a licence from the constituted authority. I was only trying to protect my family and my animals. I beg the police to forgive me.”


The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the arrest, said, “The command will no longer tolerate unlawful possession of firearms in the state and we have warned people to desist or face the wrath of the law.”

Emma Ugolee used what resources were available to him to try to recreate one of Ebuka Obi-Uchendu's iconic looks.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has become a style icon for the male folks but Emma Ugolee is cautioning his fans not to pressure themselves to keep up with Ebuka's style.

On Monday night, a non-Nigerian pilgrim slumped at the Masjid Haram/Nabawi in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The pilgrim collapsed shortly after Solatul Maghrib, a prayer offered around 7am. Officials of the Saudi Arabia Red Crescent Authority otherwise known as emergency responders were seen attending to him and about five of the emergency responders battled hard to revive him unsuccessfully.

The situation was brought under control when a reporter with TheNation and a medical practitioner with the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSMPWB), Dr Abideen Aro got to the scene.

Aro introduced himself as a medical practitioner to the visibly troubled emergency responders before they allowed him access to the slumped pilgrim. He quickly collected some medical instruments, including the one used to check the pilgrim’s heart if it’s still active.

After administering some medical therapies, the pilgrim opened his eyes and responded to further first aid treatment. The pilgrim was quickly put on emergency vehicle and driven to the hospital for further treatment. The emergency responders thanked Dr Aro for his heroic feat.

According to Dr Aro, who is working with the Lagos State Accident and Trauma Centre, the pilgrim was dehydrated. He said the high temperature in Saudi Arabia could be the cause. Aro, who was formerly with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), said the pilgrim needs to be placed on drip to regain some energies.

The Management of National Youth Service Corps is deeply saddened with the sudden and unfortunate death of Owolabi Precious Ayo, FC/18C/5226, whose untimely death occurred while on official assignment during Shiite protesters/police clash in Abuja.

Until his death, Precious, a graduate of Performing Arts from the University of Ilorin was a serving Corps Member with Channels Television who was loaded with good prospects in journalism profession.

We join the entire family of Owolabi in this moment of grief and pray that the Almighty God console them and repose the soul of the departed.
