The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a priest in the Methodist Church, Rev. Peter Adegoke Adewuyi for faking his own kidnap to collect ransom from church members and other individuals.

The Police also arrested one Sunday Oluwadare Adewole who was helping the priest in making calls to unsuspecting members of the public to demand ransom.

The 31-year-old priest was said to have lodged in a hotel in Ado-Ekiti and hid from public view from where he and his accomplice were making calls to the members of the public to pay ransom for his release.

He claimed that his ‘captors’ demanded N3 million ‘ransom’ before he could regain his freedom. The development reportedly threw his church into confusion with members raising cash to pay the ransom for what turned out to be fake kidnap saga.

The phoney kidnap stunt was busted by the Police who intercepted and arrested the holder of the phone with GSM Number: 09078589516, with which the N3 million ransom was being demanded.

Unknown to the priest, he was being tracked to a location near First Bank in Okeyinmi area of Ado Ekiti, where he went to pick the ransom. While being interrogated by the Police, Adewuyi confessed to have masterminded his own ‘
kidnap.

The priest also confessed that he lodged at a hotel during the period of his self enforced disappearance from the public. The two suspects are presently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the State Police Headquarters.

Fast-rising music duo, Andrew Omokhudu, aka Bionic, and Daniel Omokhudu, popularly known as Apex, are known on stage as AB. The duo recently released their collaboration with Tubaba, titled, ‘For Your Matter’.

During a chat with Saturday Beats, they explained that doing music became the only option for them in life even though they believe the talent is inborn.

“We grew up in Benin City (in Edo State) in an area called Central Road. That is a neighbourhood you wouldn’t want your son to grow up in. Though it is not the most dangerous part of the state, it has its share of violence and gang issues,” said Bionic, who is the older of the duo.

He continued, “Growing up in that neighbourhood was rough with a lot of gangs and violence. For us to stay true to our nature, we created our path by doing music to stay away from the street drama and we also had a lot of fun doing something positive with our lives. There were not really a lot of positive things to get involved in so music was an escape route from the streets and all the violence that we witnessed. I can say we chose music because it saved us from the negative influences around us.”

Not exactly rookies on the block, AB started music in 2010 and released their debut single in 2014, titled ‘Tell Them’ and followed it up with another one in 2015, titled ‘Oshere’. In 2016, the group released a ten-track album called ‘Nothing to Something’. The EP boasts of songs like ‘Mayan’, ‘Call Me’, ‘Get Down, featuring Uhuru and DJ Maphorisa, and so on.

Their latest work, according to the duo, is their most exhilarating moment yet and it was with the legendary award-winning hip hop star, Tubaba, titled ‘For Your Matter’. The song dropped on iTunes on June 1, 2019.

“Best moment so far in music was recording with 2baba; it was a night of lots of knowledge and excitement. It was a memorable experience,” Apex said.

Speaking about their music and why they decided to stick together instead of going their separate ways, Apex said, “Music is a hobby and it’s the only way we know how to express our true feelings and experiences. So, when we had to choose a career path, we couldn’t stand the idea of working for someone, plus we find it easier to talk in music and express through music. It’s like a language for us.”

Upcoming Nollywood actor and movie producer, Yusuf Ogunlana, has said he had to struggle in the early years of his career due to the way things were done in the industry.

“My acting career has been very rough and tough; it didn’t start now, it started some years ago. I was still in school when I started, my parents warned me not to sacrifice my education for my acting career. Getting a role in Nollywood wasn’t easy because you had to know the key producers to even get featured. Roles are not assigned to actors based on their capabilities. That is why I am happy that I have been able to produce my movie to showcase my talent to the world.

“There have been times when the superstars in the industry looked down on me because they felt I was nobody. Rising in the industry is a struggle. The first movie I featured in wasn’t even released due to the marketer’s greed. In 2011, during my National Youth Service Corps programme, I featured in two other movies then I left Nigeria for South Africa in 2012,” he told Saturday Beats.

He noted that the marketers in the movie industry were now becoming a thorn in the flesh of thespians. “Another challenge I have faced in the industry is that most of the time, we don’t get adequate return on our investment. And also, marketers often dictate who they want to be featured in certain movies. They always want the ‘trending’ acts in the industry instead of focusing on the best act for the role.

“As a producer, it is better to use actors who are the best fits for roles but the marketers don’t see it the same way. People have different reasons for going into movies, but I am into it because I am passionate about it. However, things have changed now because we now have the option of uploading our movies on the Internet; I don’t have to rely on marketers anymore,” he added.

He said, “Last December, my entire team and I were invited by one of the richest men in India. It was monumental to my career and person. We stayed at India’s best hotel, I got to taste the Indian food and experience their dance culture first-hand. It was epic. I remember I made some friends and they actually came from afar just to meet me. I’m glad they got to meet me because they said that their favourite afrobeat song is ‘Shake Body’. I mean, it was a validation that I was on the right path and that I was certainly making a mark globally. It was a transformational experience.”

The singer, who recently took to his Instagram page to celebrate his girlfriend when they marked the first anniversary of their relationship, further told Saturday Beats about his marital plans in the future. “A while ago, I used to wonder about the possibility of combining marriage or a dedicated love life with my music career. But as time went by, I came to the realisation that with the right partner; someone you have true friendship with, marriage may just not be as complicated as I had thought.

‘‘Right now, I am in a relationship and all I can say about my woman and me is that I’m happy. I’m very happy. When it comes to getting married to her, I believe anything is possible. Life is crazy and I’m really learning that you can never say never; so let’s see. What is meant for me will be for me. I truly believe this. So if it’s meant to be, it will be,” Skales said.

The ‘Temper’ singer used the opportunity to talk about the lapses in the Nigerian music industry as he called on the Nigerian government to help to make the music sector more vibrant.

“I think the government should do more for the sector in terms of regulations and protection. Also, it’s really wild that Nigerians are not able to have direct access to Apple Music or iTunes without a domiciliary account when right now, our music is one of the biggest exports globally.

“African music, particularly Nigerian music, is right now taking over the globe and we’re still struggling to access music. I think government should step in and try to fix this and sort out these issues regarding domiciliary accounts when it comes to streaming services and so on,” he said.

Speaking about his latest project titled ‘Ego’, Skales added, “Ego is a simple melody about working hard and making money.”
