Religion / The Origin Of Ash Wednesday by Gistitydotcom: 3:07pm On Mar 07, 2019
The liturgical use of ashes was introduced during the Old Testament times. Ashes means mourning, mortality, and penance. For instance, in the Book of Esther, Mordecai put on sackcloth and ashes when he heard the announcement of King Ahasuerus (or Xerxes, 485-464 B.C.) of Persia to kill all the Jewish people in the Persian Empire (Esther 4:1). Also Job (whose story was written between the 7th and 5th centuries B.C.) repented in sackcloth and ashes (Job 42:6). Daniel (c. 550 B.C.), when prophesying the Babylonian captivity of Jerusalem, wrote, “I turned to the Lord God, asking in earnest prayer, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes” (Daniel 9:3).

The town of Nineveh proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, and the king covered himself with sackcloth and sat in the ashes In the 5th century B.C. And this was after Jonah’s preaching of conversion and repentance, (Jonah 3:5-6). These Old Testament instances gave evidence to both a recognized practice of using ashes and a common understanding of their symbolism.
Jesus Himself also referred to ashes when he referred to towns that refused to repent of sin although they had witnessed the miracles and heard the gospel, our Lord said in (Matthew 11:21), “If the miracles worked in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have reformed in sackcloth and ashes long ago”.

In the Middle Ages (The time of the eighth century), those who were at the edge of death were laid on the ground on top of sackcloth sprinkled with ashes. The priest would bless the person who is at the point of death with holy water, saying, “Remember that from dust you are and to dust you shall return”. After sprinkling the ash, the priest would ask, “Are you content with sackcloth and ashes in testimony of thy penance before the Lord in the day of judgment?” To which the dying person would reply “I am content”. In all of these examples, the symbolism of ashes as mourning, mortality, and penance is clear.

The early Church continued the usage of ashes for this same symbolic reasons. The famous early Church historian, recounted in his book “The History of the Church” how an apostate named Natalis came to Pope Zephyrinus clothed in sackcloth and ashes begging forgiveness. Also during this time, for those who were supposed to do public penance, the priest sprinkled ashes on the head of the person leaving confession.

Eventually, the use of ashes upon our head was adapted to signify the beginning of Lent, the 40-day preparation period (not including Sundays) for Easter to signify that we ought to turn away from our sins during the Lenten fast. A story was told of a man who refused to go to Church on Ash Wednesday and receive ashes, the man was killed a few days later in a boar hunt.
Since the Middle Ages, the Church has been using ashes to mark the beginning of the penitential season of Lent, when we remember our mortality and mourn for our sins.

On the Ash Wednesday, the priest would bless the ashes and impose them on the foreheads of the faithful, making the sign of the cross and saying, “Remember, that you are dust and unto dust, you shall return,” or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel”. When we begin the holy season of Lent which is a way we prepare for Easter, we must remember the significance of the ashes we have received. We are reminded to mourn and do penance for our sins. We again turn our hearts to the Lord, who suffered, died, and rose for our salvation. We make again the promises made at our baptism when we died to an old life and rose to a new life with Christ.

Finally, be mindful that the kingdom of this world passes away, we strive to live the kingdom of God now and look forward to its fulfillment in heaven.

Religion / Powerful Novena To Mary For Impossible Requests by Gistitydotcom: 5:18pm On Feb 01, 2019
This Novena honors the nine months during which our lady carried our Lord Jesus in her womb.

Prayer:

“Hail, Holy Queen,
Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve;

to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy towards us;
and after this our exile,

show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

Amen.”

V – Pray for us, most holy mother of God.
R – That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

“Virgin of the Incarnation,
a thousand times we greet thee,
a thousand times we praise thee
for thy joy when God was incarnated in thee.
Because of thou art so powerful a Virgin and Mother of God,
grant what we request of thee for the love of God.”

Here mention your first intention.

Repeat all of above
and then state your second intention.

Repeat all of above
and then state your third intention.

Conclusion:

After the above prayers and intentions,
say the Memorare.

Remember, O most Gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help
or sought thy intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of Virgins,
my mother.

To thee do I cry,
before thee, I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my requests,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Hail Mary.

Blessed and praised be
the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar,
in Heaven, on earth and everywhere.

Amen.

Religion / Here Is A List Of Catholic Symbols And Meanings You Probably Wish To Know by Gistitydotcom: 5:11pm On Feb 01, 2019
1. Crucifix
The crucifix is a cross with the figure of the body of Jesus Christ attached to it. This is a very common Catholic symbol that is often placed on or above the altar where the Eucharist is celebrated.

What Is the Meaning of the Crucifix?
The crucifix is a symbol of sacrifice and atonement, since, according to the Bible, Jesus died for the sins of the world. His crucifixion and his death soaked up systematic injustice, personal evil, violence and other wrongs, and go ahead to do so for Catholics everywhere.

Unlike other Christian denominations, which use only the cross, the crucifix is a powerful symbol of Catholicism, showing the focal point of the Catholic belief: that Jesus died on the cross to redeem humanity.

What Do the Letters “INRI” Stand for on the Cross?
A crucifix often has the letters “INRI” carved into the wood of the cross. These letters are short for the Latin phrase, “Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum,” which means “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”

These are the words which Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea who sentenced Jesus to death, ordered to be written on the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified.

2. The Sacred Heart
In Catholic art, the Sacred Heart is usually depicted as a flaming heart. It is also always shining with divine light, pierced (presumably from a lance), encircled by a crown of thorns, surmounted by a cross, and bleeding. Sometimes it is shown in the bosom of Jesus Christ. The wound, thorns, and blood represent Jesus’ crucifixion, and the flames shows the transformative power of divine love.

What Is the Meaning of the Sacred Heart?
The Sacred Heart represents Jesus’ physical heart and stands for divine love. It is a devotional of Catholics everywhere and encapsulates the message of Jesus’ long-suffering love and passion towards humanity. On its own, the heart is a symbol of love. But the Sacred Heart, pierced and wrapped in thorns, shows the depth of Jesus’ love. It shows that he was prepared to suffer and die for all people, and that his love is eternal.

3. Alpha and Omega
Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. They are used at different times in the Church liturgical year. The alpha and omega have been used by Catholics since the fourth century as symbols showing the confidence of orthodox Christians in the scriptural proofs of God.

What Is the Meaning of Alpha and Omega?
In the book of revelation 22:13, Christ refers to himself as the alpha and the omega. That is, the first and the last. These two letters express the fact that Christ is the start and the finish of all creation.

4. The Cross
The most popular and widespread Christian symbol is the cross. It is found wherever there is a Christian presence. In Roman times, the cross was an instrument of torture and public humiliation, and criminals were put to death on crosses.

What Is the Meaning of the Cross?
For Christians, the cross has become a symbol not only of Jesus’ death but also of his resurrection. While the cross has been around long before the advent of Christianity, the Easter story (that is, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ) has made the cross one of the most recognized icons in the world. The cross symbolizes sacrifice, suffering, repentance, solidarity, and exclusion. These are only a few ways to interpret the cross. Every Catholic applies their own relevance to this perennial symbol.

5. The Dove
The dove is a white bird often depicted in the Catholic Church as flying gracefully before a shining aura of light. Oftentimes, the dove is carrying an olive branch in its beak.

What Is the Meaning of the Dove?
The dove is the symbol of the Holy Spirit. When Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, a dove descended on him, from the book of Matthew 3:16 and Mark 1:10. The dove is sometimes depicted with an olive branch in its mouth as a symbol of peace. It also shows God’s grace.
Can you recall in Noah’s story, when he sent out a dove to search for dry land after the rain stopped? It returned carrying an olive branch from the Mount of Olives, which was a sign and symbol of God’s forgiveness.
Religion / 4 Reasons Why Catholics Are Devoted To Mary by Gistitydotcom: 2:07pm On Jan 22, 2019
Protestants often accuse Catholics of worshiping Mary.

This isn’t always the case. I know some Protestants who comprehend the devotion to Mary but for the most part there is still a lot of misconception in the non-Catholic world on this issue. I know Protestants who accede with most of the doctrines of the Catholic faith but still have a difficult time with Marian devotion.
I can comprehend the confusion about Mary’s role in the Catholic Church.

I mean, if Catholic’s say they don’t worship Mary then why are they always talking about her? Why do they pray the rosary so much? There’s nothing wrong with asking these questions. Even a Catholic who doesn’t comprehend the practice should seek the answers to these questions. There are very good reasons Catholics are so devoted to Mary.

Here are four of them:

1.) Mary Is the Ark of the New Covenant

This sounds like an odd reason, I know, but the Ark of the Covenant was a crucial part of the faith of God’s people in the Old Testament. Therefore, if we can show that the Ark of the Old Covenant was a foreshadowing of Mary then it might be easier to comprehend her role in the faith.
God gave specific instructions on how to build the Ark starting in Exodus chapter 25, verse 10. The Ark held three things of great relevance: the manna (miracle bread) from heaven, the staff of Aaron who was the high priest, and God’s word on stone tablets (Heb 9:4).

Likewise, Mary held in her womb three things: the true manna, the true high priest, and the Word of God. Jesus says, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” (John 6:51). He is the high priest (Hebrews 4:14) and he is the Word, not of stone, but the Word become flesh (John 1:14).

With this knowledge in mind take a look at Revelation chapters 11 and 12. The Ark, which was so relevant to the people of the Old Testament, had been lost for a very long time and here it was being revealed to John by God, “Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant” (Rev 11:19). Pay close attention to the verses that follow, “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth” (Rev 12:1). “And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne” (Rev 12:5).
If you read this in your Bible at home you might be tempted to say “Hey, the ark appears at the end of chapter 11 and the verses about Mary are in the next chapter. The division of Scripture by chapter and verse was developed in the 13th century. Before that there was no division between Revelation 11:19 and 12:1. John was speaking of Mary when he referred to seeing the ark of the covenant.

Further study into the ark of the old covenant will give a greater view into the way Catholic’s view Mary’s role in the Church. I suggest reading a book titled “Hail, Holy Queen” by former Protestant minister, and now Catholic scholar, Scott Hahn. The book can be found on Amazon and local Catholic bookstores.

There are other interesting parallels between the Ark of the Old Covenant and Mary. The point, though, is that the ark of the old covenant was treated with great reverence and respect. It was considered holy because of what it contained. It wasn’t worshiped and it didn’t stop the faith of God’s people. In other words, it increased their faith and was a means by which God blessed his people. Likewise, Mary is considered holy by God’s grace. She is not worshiped and devotion to her doesn’t hinder our faith. In fact, it can increase our faith and be a means by which God blesses us.

2.) Mary is the New Eve

“And Adam called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all living” (Gen 3:20). Mary is often called the New Eve except she succeeds where the Old Eve failed. Bishop Irenaeus in AD 202, just over a century after Jesus’ death, wrote, “The knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. The knot of which the virgin Eve tied by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary opened by her belief”. He also says “If the former [referring to Eve] disobeyed God, the latter [referring to Mary] was persuaded to obey God, so that the Virgin Mary became the advocate of the virgin Eve. And thus, as the human race fell into bondage to death by means of a virgin, so it is rescued by a virgin”.

I did not set out to provide a complete explanation of why Catholic’s believe Mary was born without sin. However, I would like to say that the first Eve was born without sin. Therefore, it’s not a stretch to believe that the Mother of Jesus, the one who was to usher in the Savior of the world, enjoyed the same gift as the person who ushered sin and death into the world.

If Mary was born without sin does that mean she didn’t need a savior? No. We believe she was saved in a different manner – before she was tainted by sin. Imagine Mary is walking through the woods when she steps on a bear trap. Jesus comes along and helps her get her foot out of the bear trap. He saved her. In another scenario Mary is walking through the woods but right before she is about to step on the bear trap Jesus swoops in and stops her. In as much as she wasn’t harmed by the bear trap, she was still saved by Jesus. She still needs a Savior because she would have stepped on it had he not prevented her. Why would God save her in a different manner than the rest of humanity? I don’t know. Why did God select Mary to be the mother of Jesus? He could have chosen anyone else in any time period but he chose Mary. My guess is that he chose her not because she was the most powerful, or vocal, but because she was the most humble and open to God’s will.

3.) Mary Is A Great Example of What It Means to be Human and to be a Saint

Pope John Paul II explains, in his lectures on the Theology of the Body, that woman, in the image of her body, shows all humanity the example of what it means to be human. Precisely, Mary is an example of what it means to be a follower of Christ. In this age, we have so many powerful speakers and leaders, and we can easily forget that the central message of the Gospel is to accept God’s proposal to marriage. Throughout the Scripture, we are always reminded that God is a husband and that Jesus is the bridegroom. Sometimes our biggest obstacle is to let God love us. Being open to the will of God for us can be difficult because it needs an active passivity.

In some situations when a man tries to open the door for a woman she might say “thanks, but I can do it myself”. We can sometimes feel that we need to prove our self sufficiency and show that we are not dependent on anyone. ver, moreover humility demands that we recognize our complete dependence on God. We can do nothing on our own. God’s grace is at work to keep us alive and in existence. Mary was the prime example because when the Angel Gabriel came to her and said “you will bear conceive and bear a son … and He will be called the Son of the Most High” (Luke 1:31-32) her reply was one of being open to the will of God “I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).

That’s what makes Mary so important?

Yes. What makes Mary most relevant is that when someone comes to her she tells them “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). That is our example – to point others to Jesus. That’s also why the apostles are so relevant to the Church. Their role was simply to bring others to Christ. Mary brought others to Christ by bringing Christ to the world. And she did it through obedience to God’s will.

4.) Jesus Gave Us Mary to be Our Mother

The simplest answer we can give for our devotion to Mary is that she is our mom too.
The last act of love Jesus performed before his death on the cross was to share his mother with us. “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home” (John 19:25-27). Throughout the Gospel of John, John refers to himself as the beloved disciple or the one whom Jesus loves (examples: John 13:23, 21:7).

This could be taken as a little odd and possibly arrogant of John but John and God are really trying to explain something to us. We are the ones whom Jesus loves. We are the beloved disciples. John is representative of all the beloved believers and that’s why in John 19:25 – “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved” – John didn’t refer to himself by name. He wanted us to know that Jesus was giving his mother to the beloved disciple. He selects his words carefully to show us that Jesus was giving the gift of his mother to all of us.

Religion / Why Does The Catholic Church Call Mary The Mother Of God? by Gistitydotcom: 9:10pm On Jan 01, 2019
As Catholics, We do not believe that Mary created the divine person of Jesus, who "was with God in the beginning"; rather we believe that Mary conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and through her, Jesus Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity entered this world taking the nature Man. Hence, in the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity is united both a divine and a human nature.

Hence the church professes:

"Called in the Gospels "the mother of Jesus", Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit and even before the birth of her son, as "the mother of my Lord"(Lk 1:26-38). In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is truly "Mother of God" (Theotokos)". - (CCC, No. 495)

The Universal Church Celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on the First day of every year (1st January).

Unarguably, people from the Roman Catholic Church had a hand in it, but what has that got to do with anything? Does that make them the truth bearers? And not that the Roman Catholic Church was the only church allowed in Rome because of Constantine's sentiments.

Do you know that the Catholic Church whose teachings you detest actually determined the validity of books you enjoy today in the Bible? The church used her wisdom to decide which writings are valid in terms of the truth that we profess and which is not.

Secondly, read your history well, the Catholic church was the only church founded by Christ himself, every other denomination we see today either divided from the Catholic church or was founded by an individual (so your claim that Constantine allowed only the Catholic church is valid, but it as of then, the Church was one. The first division occurred around 325AD).

Conclusion, since the Church used it's wisdom to Compile the Bible, it follows that the church actually has the authority to teach what is right and what is wrong.

Let's be clear, first 'this' wasn't what was in practise in the last 2000 years, maybe 1500 years with evidence being in the Catholic letters ( catholic : meaning universal) and Paul's letters, it came up after the ransacking of Jerusalem, and the Jew's and the early Christians had to migrate, and so on. As to how do I know the truth. First, I know Jesus, and he is the truth, and he is enough for me, no more no less. ( by this I mean God)
2. The Bible, anything other than these two, or is founded outside these two is false

And who compiled this bible?

As a Catholic, I refuse to believe that the pope is 'infallible' as the Catholic mosque teaches. I reject vatican as the holy city!

I reject the fallacious teachings of the catholic mosque, christianity, Islam and religion as a whole. Religion is supposed to elevate one's spirituality not defrauding people, enslaving people's mind!

I believe in the Bible and true worship of God.

You are not a Catholic. Don't claim to be what you're not simply because you want to make a stupid point.
Religion / Why Do Catholic Church Use Crucifixes Since Jesus Has Risen? by Gistitydotcom: 3:39am On Jan 01, 2019
Question:
Why do Catholics leave the sculpture/image of Jesus crucified on the cross in their churches since Jesus has risen?

Answer:

Jesus is not “left on the cross” instead his saving love is displayed. The central message of a crucifix is that Jesus died for our sins out of love. The centrality of this to the mission of Jesus on earth is stated many times in the New Testament:

For Jews ask for signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we declare Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles (1 Cor. 1:23).

“I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this reason that I came to this hour” (John 12:27).

And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who accepts him may have eternal life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life (John 3:14-16).

Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” And in the same manner, the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you” (Luke 22:19-20).

God could have selected any method for the redemption of humanity. In his desire that humanity will understand the depravity of sin and the depths of God’s love, he decided to die on the cross. Displaying a crucifix does not in any way deny the resurrection of Jesus. Moreover, do faith communities that display only a cross want to downplay the sufferings of Jesus? Of course not, it is just a different preference of emphasis. In the Catholic Church, the crucifix has been the traditional sign and statement of our faith in God’s love and mercy. It reminds us that Jesus never promised his followers an easy life (Matt. 16:24) but that if we join our sufferings to his, we too will really triumph as he did.

Religion / 6 New Year Resolutions For Catholics by Gistitydotcom: 3:16am On Jan 01, 2019
Here are some resolutions you might consider for your interior life in the upcoming New Year.

1. Head to confession
What a better way to celebrate a new year than with a clean soul? Check out the local confession times in your area and plan to make a good confession before Christmas comes.

Advent is a great time to find yourself in the confessional line. “With all that’s going on, we want to be absolutely ready to receive that little Infant Jesus,” Retired Auxiliary Bishop Louis A. DeSimone once said. “When I go for Holy Communion on Christmas, I want to go as white and pure as I can.”

2. Take time for daily reflection
Advent invites us to pause, despite the holiday rush, and spend time in reflection.

Resolve to not give into the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holidays and simply stay with the Lord in this time, getting your heart ready to receive him as a little baby born in Bethlehem.

3. Give generously
Dr. Seuss popularly wrote, “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Perhaps Christmas, rather, means a little bit more!” We each have special gifts (charisms!) that we can give others, and they aren’t gifts that we can pick up off of the shelf at Target. Target is awesome, but it only has so much.

This year, volunteer your time with an organization that you’re passionate about. Maybe you have a gift of instructing. Spend time at an after school program in your area and invest in the kids of your community and parish.

Notwithstanding what your gifts and talents are, there is a way to share them (and your time!) with the world and your community. Spend time researching the options out there for you and commit to one during this new year!

4. Ask a saint to walk the journey with you
Need some special assistance for the (Catholic) new year? Probably you’re looking ahead to major life changes, new jobs, or trips. Maybe this upcoming year will be full of privileges to trust the Lord.

Notwithstanding what your new year will look like, you don’t have to go at it alone. You’re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, and the saints are an incredible source of assistance Pick a patron for the upcoming year and start getting to know them and including them in your daily prayer.

Don’t know which saint to pick? Check out Jennifer Fulwiler’s Saint Name Generator for great recommendations.

5. Pray the rosary
Looking for some Heavenly assistance, protection against temptation, and a privilege to receive an indulgence? Look no further than adding a Rosary to your daily prayer life this new year!

Already pray the Rosary on a daily basis? That’s awesome! In this upcoming year, decide to invite others to pray the Rosary with you, or teach others to pray the Rosary.

6. Take a look at your media
It can be easy to cogitate that what we consume on social media, television, and our smartphones won’t affect our relationship with the Lord, but we’d be fooling ourselves to think that the media we consume doesn’t make a significance in our lives.

This new year’s, take a good long look at your Netflix queue, Spotify playlists, iTunes podcasts, and the social media accounts you’re following. Do they lead you closer to the Lord?

If the answer is “no,” exchange them with media choices that motivate you to grow deeper in your relationship with God.

‘Murder’ she wrote.

The strong acrid smell of death was in the air, so palpable I could almost taste it. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stand.

A shiver worked its way down my spine, I perceived the rotten stench of death & and could almost taste the metallic tang of blood spilled each way and that. Goose bumps broke out on my skin the contents of my bowels protested, I swallowed down the nausea and the bile that threatened to spew all over. My eyes stung, and I realised I was fighting back tears.

The setting sun seeped in through the light curtains casting long ghoulish shadows on the scene and by the lumination of the dusk light i could make out the distinct form of the body lying lifelessly on the floor.

I was the key witness to a first degree murder count. She was my friend. She was his wife. He was her husband. Now he laid still and harmless in the pool of blood oozing from the cut in his head soaking into the rich Belgian rug still new.

They had been married for barely a year.
He was her abuser, she was his victim and in a matter of minutes he just became her first victim. The evening had started out so good at least for me.
Robert my four year boyfriend had finally proposed and I was so happy and very excited and eager too. I couldn’t wait to tell and flaunt my ring to Grace, she did the same to me when she got engaged. I was a regular visitor to their house so I knew my way around. And i also knew that her husband was supposed to still be at work. He had told Grace to stop working in the public relations firm and become a full time house wife because he was earning more than enough to take care of her and the kids when they eventually come along. She had obliged him.

In my excitement I burst into the parlour ready to shout a “surprise surprise! Guess what girl” to Grace when I was confronted with a sight that chilled me to the bone and stopped me in my tracks.

He took her up as easily as though she weighed nothing more than a paper and crashed her onto the center table his left hand grabbing her neck in a choke hold squeezing the very life out of her, his right hand going straight to his belt clasp as I assumed he was going to flog her with it.

He undid the clasp, unzipped his trouser and in one swift fluid motion that seemed well practiced and told me he had done this countless of times and was a master at it, he tore away her underwear and forced his way into her ignoring the feeble attempts she made at throwing him off her, I watched dazed as though in a dream, I couldn’t move or shout or do anything. I was frozen in shock and watched as though it were a movie. Grace victim of rape being raped again by her husband. Again. Relieving it all over again. But her hands were moving searching, trying to grab at something and ended up grabbing air.

Then like victory her hand found something, raised it and landed it on his head. Hard. I heard the ‘thwack’ sound as the object made contact with his head and the crack resonated in the now quiet room.

He went stiff like a man experiencing the height of orgasm as the shock spasmed through his system jerking him to a stop. She pushed him off her like a sack of potatoes, got on her feet before she broke down and started crying.

Letting out heart and gut wrenching sobs that shook her whole being. Still I stood frozen, shock rooting me in place. She looked up still in that haze and said
“This is not the first time…or the fifth or fiftieth i’ve lost count”
Then she stumbled her way to the bedroom then into the shower as I heard it come on….

I dropped to my knees and cried. I cried for her, I cried for me, and I cried for the circumstances that led to this.
For her for me and for all the women the world over who are victims of domestic abuse and violence. Some who were not so lucky as my friend and some who are living the nightmare right this moment even as I write this.
I cried and my body wracked with sobs. That evening i cried every tear left inside me after i vowed never to cry again when I thought a broken heart was the worst that could happen to anybody or woman.

Politics / Femi Fani-kayode Meets The Biafran Leader Nnamdi Kanu In Detention by Gistitydotcom: 3:47pm On Nov 19, 2016
Fani-Kayode has just written an article about the foremost IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. he has likened the Leader to Ojukwu, Azi Here is what he has to say:

THE HEART AND SOUL OF NNAMDI KANU

In my essay titled "Head Bloodied But Not Bowed And The Ascension Of President-Elect Donald J. Trump" (Part 1) I wrote the following:

"When I went to visit the great and brilliant freedom fighter, Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of IPOB and easily the most courageous, powerful and credible Igbo leader in Nigeria today in his cell we had a very instructive and long discussion.

I had never met Nnamdi before and I was amazed at his depth of knowledge, his immense courage and his deep convictions.

There is no doubt in my mind that that man is going places and in him the Igbo have an Ojukwu and a Nnamdi Azikiwe all rolled into one. He is destined for greatness".

Apparantly my words have created quite a stir amongst those who believe that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be mentioned in the same breath as Azikiwe or Ojukwu, both of whom, in my view, are also great men.

Yet despite their reservations I believe that we must give honor to whom it is due. Consequently I have no regrets for what I have said.

Those that are upset at the fact that I spoke highly of the IPOB leader are misguided and, worst still, they lack vision, foresight and insight.

They not only lack the ability to perceive individuals and events accurately but they also lack the gift of discermment. They may see the man but they cannot assess or recognise the spirit that is in him and that motivates him.

Worse of all they are suffering from good old fashioned envy and they have been afflicted with the worst form of ignorance.

Most of them have never even met Kanu let alone know him. I sat next to him for three solid hours in the most challenging and difficult circumstances.

We discussed our respective views about Nigeria, our collective history, the suffering and marginalisation of our respective people, the Nigerian civil war, the reptilian and violent nature of the Nigerian state, the present dispensation, the Buhari government and the way forward.

I have associated with, met and worked with many men of influence and power since I entered the combustible fray of politics thirty years ago but this one was different.

This was a man that had what I would describe as a Mahatma Ghandi-like quality. That is to say he is one that is prepared to sacrifice everything and anything for his beliefs, his people and his cause.

Like the great Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace I have no doubt that if he deemed it necessary he would go as far as to sacrifice his very life in the struggle for freedom and independence for his Igbo people from the Nigerian state and from our internal colonial masters and for the establishment of his beloved Biafra.

Not all may agree with him on that course but they must respect his determination, passion and courage.
Very few Nigerian leaders have that level of selflessness and commitment to any cause and, simply put, I admire it.

I looked deeply into his eyes as we spoke and I touched and weighed his soul.

I can tell you, without any fear of contradiction, that he is a profoundly good man who loves his Igbo people deeply.

He is also well-educated and widely-read and he is a formidable intellectual.

We may not have agreed on everything but I can tell you this much: we share an aversion to the spread of radical Islam and terror in Nigeria and indeed throughout the world.

We also share deep concerns about the oppression of our people by the state, the vicious persecution and desperate attempt to silence all the voices of the opposition in our country, the marginalisation and suppression of the good people and ethnic nationalities of the south and the Middle Belt, the implementation of a plainly racist and apartheid-like agenda by our government, the regular and consistent practice of genocide by our security forces, the rise in power and increasing callousness and brutality of the Fulani miltias and herdsmen in our midst, the not so hidden agenda to Islamise our nation and violate the secularity of our state, the violation of court orders, the brazen intimidation of the Judiciary and the resort to the most barbarous and hideous form of gestapo tactics, tyranny and human rights abuses by the Buhari administration.

I can also tell you that he feels and shares the pain of the Igbo and he yearns for their liberation and emanciption from an increasingly hostile and oppressive Nigerian state.

He is not a politician in the true sense of the word but rather a freedom fighter and a charissmatic leader who has managed to inspire millions of Igbo youth all over the world to once again have faith in themselves and their collective cause and aspirations. In my view that is a good thing.

I can also tell you this: he is a man of great faith and conviction and his rise to prominence is not ordinary but instead prophetic.

He cannot be destroyed or silenced by any government or man born of woman because the Lord is with him and He is using him. He is using him to say and do the things that many believe but that are too scared to say or do.

Other leaders have had their time in the past and now this is his. He is paying a very heavy price right now for what God will use him for in the future.

I recognise that fact and I sincerely hope and pray that his Igbo people will come to appreciate him and do so as well.

Very few leaders can or would be willing to take the pain and make the kind of sacrifice that this man is making today.

I am a very cautious and circumspect person and it takes me a while to warm to people or for them to win my confidence. Yet this case was different.

Nnamdi and I, rather like Che Guevera and Fidel Castro at the beginning of the Cuban revolution, connected immediately and he won my trust, respect and admiration.

If there is anyone that can truly build the much needed bridge between the south-west, the south-south and the south-east it is Nnamdi Kanu.

This is because he is pragmatic and sincere. It is because he is respectful and accomodating of alternative points of view and dissenting opinions and he speaks from a position of knowledge and strength. It ibecause he is very proud of his Igbo heritage and he would never betray his people or prostitute his principles.

The truth is that he is not just a combination of Owelle Nnamdi Azikwe and Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu: he is a combination of Azikwe, Ojukwu AND Major Kaduna Nzeogwu all rolled into one.

The fire of revolution and the yearning for fundamental and equitable change burns in his blood and resides in his bones.

He has spoken up for, defended and fought for the preservation and dignity of his people just as those other three leaders did in the past at different times in our history.

He also serves as a rallying point for Igbo nationalism, the fight for self-determination of the people of the east and the establishment of the sovereign state of Biafra.

His love, remarkable courage and sheer passion for his people and their cause is boundless and unfathomable.

The Igbo is blessed to have him as one of the most respected and reverred leaders in our entire history as a nation.

They would do well to appreciate him more, pray for him, stand up for him, line up behind him and insist that the government honors the numerous court orders that have granted him bail and release him from prison.

Why? Because he bleeds and suffers for their collective cause and he is sacrificing all to remove their shame and lift their pain.

What a man he is. What a mighty spirit. What a beautiful soul. What a braveheart.

Permit me to conclude this contribution with the following observations.

All over the world today the concept of political correctness has been discredited and rejected. Consequently right-wing nationalist and ultra-nationalist groups and political parties are rising up and regaining credibility and power.

In the United Kingdom we have the Nick Farage's of this world and his UKIP whose magnificent efforts resulted in Brexit. In France we have the Marie Le Pen's and her National Front. In Hungary we have the Viktor Orban's and his Fidesz party.

In the United States of America we have the Donald Trump's and his new and redefined Republican party.

We also have plain-speaking and honest men like Michael Flynn, who has just been appointed as Trump's National Security Advisor.

Political parties with a similar ideology and that are led by equally strong-willed, focused and charissmatic figures are also making great waves and slowly gaining more power and relevance in Italy, Germany, Austria, Holland, Greece, Belgium, Hungary, Russia, the Phillipines, Israel and indeed all over the world.
Thankfully Nigeria has not been left out. We have men like Nnamdi Kanu in the east, Ganiyu Adams in the west, Asari Dokubo in the Niger Delta and others from elsewhere who believe passionately in the restructuring of the Federation, the redefinition of the Nigerian state, the right of self-determination for their respective people and the expression of power, pride, self-respect and dignity for their various ethnic nationalities.

Freedom beckons whilst the wind of change is blowing across the world and no-one can stop it.

I thank God for that and I also thank Him for the millions of men of courage, strength and vision that have joined the fray.

Whatever happens in Nigeria and whatever may come our way, one thing remains clear: an idea whose time has come cannot be successfully resisted. Today may belong to our oppressors but tomorrow belongs to us.

At the appointed time we shall rise up to where we belong as a people and we shall free ourselves from the demonic shackles and satanic chains that have have been placed upon us by our collective tormentors.

And when that time comes we shall stand shoulder to shoulder with men like Nnamdi Kanu and face down our collective enemies.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob shall rise to our defence and the Lord of Hosts, the Ancient of Days, the God of the Armies of Israel and He who holds the universe together by the power of His word shall lift us up to where we belong.

Literature / Friendly Foe by Gistitydotcom: 9:39pm On Nov 18, 2016
Episode One:

“He bought me these shoes and even promised to buy me the whole boutique next time. So funny.” Lily narrated excitedly giggling. She gave a sigh of pure satisfaction sprawled carelessly on one of the plastic chairs that served as their cushion. She turned to Flora, surprised at her unusual quietness. “You have not said anything Flora”.

“Well, what do you want me to say?” Flora asked nonchalantly, looking up from the novel she buried her face in,all the while Lily chattered. ”

“Eeh? So you can’t say anything? No comment at all for all my banter” Lily interpolated, flaring up. Flora smiled sweetly,”Flower sis, really sorry girl. Got so absorbed in this book. Really interesting book, you should read it. Oh and yes, I trust Chris. He’s got money” Flora said returning attention to her novel. But Lily has already lost the thread of the whole conversation, she was texting Chris. “Oh look, he sent me a rose on whatsapp. Said he couldn’t find a Lily but will make sure Zuckerberg makes a provision for that very soon. So funny” Lily smiled so much, her eyes crinkled at the corners.

“Hmph! ” Flora suddenly had enough. She stumped into the room hoping Lily would see her annoyance as to how she goes on and on about Chris. It was always, Chris said this or that, Chris Loves this dress, Oh she thought that was Chris, he walks the same way. What the hell? Unfortunately, Lily didn’t even look up from her phone, let alone notice she had left the parlour. Flora convinced herself she was not jealous. Hey, are you OK in the head? How would she be jealous,Lily was her best friend,Like a sister to her. A lady shouldn’t be obsessed with a man like that, it’s not healthy. She just wanted the best for her.

Flora looked around the room she shared with Lily right from their year one. The entire walls were covered with flower posters. They shared the same bed, no space in the room for two. The apartment was not a large one. Just a parlour and another room attached like an afterthought. They always had a lot of fun here to keep stress in check. Pillow fights, chess, ludo, they even played oga and Sandalili just like primary school children. She thought of the time they Played hide and seek, a very silly game to play in this small space. One didn’t really have to search to find the other but they did pretend to search. They have names which depict same thing. Flora – flower, Lily-flower so they call each other flower sister. Flora heard Lily laugh so loud in the parlour. “Flora you should see this. This guy is so funny!” Lily called. Flora hissed. They had been best of friends until… Until Chris. Chris disrupted everything, every single thing. They always dressed the same way but now Lily only wears clothes Chris said makes her look like a goddess, Chris said to meet him for lunch, so their chess game will have to be cancelled. Chris doesn’t like too much make up so she would have to be moderate. Chris said she looked better without the lashes she fixed, so no more artificial lashes. Chris said, Chris said, Chris Chris Chris. What nonsense! Flora didn’t like the Chris of a guy anyway. Always clean cut, cheerful, smart, rich and well… A little handsome.

She had known Chris before Lily did but he snubbed her completely. She was far prettier than Lily. He must think himself the only man in a world of ants. She heard Lily giggle again. And her friend was not even helping matters. She thought they were supposed to be friends. Why did Lily have to go behind her back and get the guy she always wanted while she was still single. It’s so unfair, that’s betrayal and she also had to flaunt what he bought for her and things she claimed he taught her. This nonsense had to stop, it just had to. Flora suddenly bolted upright on the bed. Her eyes widened as the idea hit her, she twisted her mouth and glared in the direction of the parlour. Her novel forgotten now, she sprang up from the bed and paced. Then reached into her cupboard to get… Oh my God, could she go through with this? She smiled contentedly as she rehearsed her Plans. This would finally stop, she would make it stop.

Friendly Foe – Episode Two

Christian Chukwu simply could not believe what he just read. “Please read this for me”, he passed the phone to his friend Iyke, interrupting his video game. Iyke pouted in annoyance. “Haba, is it that you cannot wait until…” one glance at the text, Iyke stopped short in shock.

“Chris,I knw u care 4 me nd I appreciate. Bt I will really lyk 2 Cal dis rlship quits. I cn’t go thru wit it anymore. I hv finally found d ryt man 4 me nd I dnt wnt u 2 come ard nd spoil tinz 4 us. Pls don’t Cal my num or even txt me on any social network again, I won’t take it lightly wit u. Finally, u will do well nt 2 talk 2 me again cos I will pretend I dnt knw u. Pls leave me alone frm nw on. I mean evry word. If u doubt it, try me.” “who wrote this?”

Iyke asked no one in particular looking like he just ate “ube kotuma”, the type that slaps you when you eat it. “Damn if I know!” Chris bellowed, staring into the empty space like he was seeing invisible forces “Did you see what I saw? I mean, what I think I saw?” Chris asked his friend, growing madder by the minute. “

“Hey guy just relax. This might not be the real information. I know Lily. I mean, she might not really mean what she wrote. You know girls can be so funny”. Iyke said, trying to calm down his friend. His words didn’t even sound convincing to his own ears. “The text might actually mean something else when read from another angle” Iyke tried again but Chris was no longer hearing anything except the sound of his own heart. Iyke turned the phone over, read the text from different angles and upside down, they all said the same thing. “Why would she write this na?” Iyke muttered, frowning. “Jubakwam” Chris cut in, grinding his teeth.

“You know the text might mean something else when soaked in kerosene” Iyke said, still not believing Lily was serious. She adored Chris. “What do you mean?” Chris retorted, springing up from the cushion like it was too hot. “I mean, you can forget the text and call her” Iyke said. Chris was sitting on the floor now, the cushion was too hot. “Ehh? Did you say call? Guy did you even read the text. She said I should not call or talk to her or even appear before her majesty. She’s literally telling me to leave her alone kpam kpam, just like we never met” Chris barked as he spoke.

His heart was not breaking. Hell, nobody could do that to him again. After he lost his mum to the dirty hands of poverty, his world was torn into diminutive pieces. He clamped his eyes shut, in pain. He didn’t know how he managed to survive but he made it, didn’t he? Now he’s thinking he found a consolation, a girl whom his future plans revolved around. She was a lot like his mother, gentle, tender and he pampered her. He had even introduced her to their Priest and was encouraged. What did he get for all his commitment? A stupid text message, roughly typed in indecipherable short hand without explanation or even simple greeting with threats to cap it all. What did he do to deserve this? This wasn’t like his Lily, not his flower.

But girls, do you ever trust them? Any man, not killed by a woman will live a long life. Chris angrily glared at his phone like it was Lily. Then turned to glare at Iyke, he hated the way the dude kept staring at him like he was a helpless lamb. “what?” Chris snapped. Iyke jejely turned back to his video game like a good boy. He knew that mood. Chris suddenly jumped up and picked his phone with his face Set into scary hard lines and calm resolution. “What are you doing?” Iyke asked. “Doing the right thing. Soaking the text and the texter in cold water”. Chris replied, with a surprisingly calm voice. “Hmm. I don’t know o but I think you should just call. Anyway, what’s the need? She knew you would call and warned you off before hand” Iyke said, looking disgusted. “Girls sha. Do your thing bro”. Chris carefully blocked her on Facebook, whatsapp and every social network she signed up for. Then forwarded her number to his lost sim in case she calls to explain, by some stupid prick of conscience. He got his shirt from the room and headed for the door. “where to?”

He got his shirt headed for the door. “where to?” Iyke asked, alarmed. Hope this guy won’t try something stupid. Abeg, let all that crap about people killing themselves for girls remain stories. “Bar” Chris growled and banged the door. When did Chris ever drink? Iyke shrugged again in disgust. Girls! After dem don chop your money finish, dem go begin blow grammar. Leave you alone? Why would he leave you alone? Return his money jare. And Chris, his mannest man for that matter. He loved that girl like you wouldn’t believe, always talking about her and buying her things. He was even planning to host her birthday and make it big. What did he get for all his efforts? Tufiakwa. Girls are wicked. He dropped the video pads, he would show the girl.

He knew Chris wouldn’t support that but see na. E good? After he had invested everything in her, she dropped the time bomb. He would just teach the stupid girl a little Lesson so that she would never try that again with any man in the future. Can you just imagine. He spat in disgust and continued with his video game. His plan will have to be carried out soonest so that the stupid girl will be feeling the pain same time Chris did.

Friendly Foe – Episode Three

“This is Lily’s fiance. Look, Mr Christian or whatever they call you, I don’t want to perceive you around Lily again. If you see her, don’t even greet, just go your own way and she will go hers”. Flora nodded in approval.
Flamez may be a racketeer but he spoke English flawlessly. Flora still didn’t understand how he ended up on the streets. “And don’t call her” Flora whispered. She loved the exaggerated baritone, it was threatening all on its own. He changed his voice effortlessly. “Yes, and don’t ever call her again. If I see you around her, only God knows what I will do to you. Goodbye Mr Christian”. Flamez ended the call. Flora gave him a high five, giggling silently so as not to make too much noise. Other people were also doing underground business here.

Flora gave him a high five, giggling silently so as not to make too much noise. Other people were also doing underground business here. Flamez was the man she hired to add finishing touches to her plans because he spoke so well. “You are so cool” Flora said in admiration, opening her bag to pay him. Flamez smiled toothlessly, he had very few teeth remaining in his mouth, testimony to numerous bar fights and jungle life. “That’s my job”. He collected the money and counted,he mentally patted himself on the back. 100 ways to make quick money number 1, help bitches set up their female friends.

“Excuse me? I said 10k. What’s this?” Flamez asked with that upturned mouth. Was that a scar that ran across his upper lip? “I know. Just manage 5k, I will pay up later” Flora said, assuming that bossy stance. Little did she know it doesn’t work on everyone. “Look, I don’t do child’s business. If you don’t pay up now, get ready to leave without your phone.” Flamez said, his cold eyes hardening. “Is that supposed to be a threat or something?” Flora’s voice was rising with fury. Imagine this nincompoop. “Don’t make noise here” Flamez cut in, glancing around. “I even paid you 5k and you are still talking”. Flora continued, glaring at him. “Many people would have done it for less. Please take the money and free me joorh. Don’t be greedy, besides I have already said I will pay up later”.

Flamez stared at her, a muscle was ticking in his jaw. That’s the problem with all these envious girls. They are always saucy, jealous and broke. “Sorry, I’m not many people” Flamez said, trying really hard to remain the gentleman and control his temper. Ignoring him totally, Flora stood up, adjusted her spotless white dress like a peahen and made to leave. Flamez grabbed her handbag. “If not because I know you, I would have done something that would forever keep your filthy mouth shut”. Flamez said, his eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. “Like seriously, are you threatening me?” Flora’s laugh was mirthless. “I give you two minutes to release my handbag. One…two…” This wasn’t going well for Flora, she collected all the money she had and even borrowed from Lily to complete it. Where would get another 5k? The guy must be a greedy fool. She shook off a wave of guilt as Lily came to mind. If Lily had left Chris for her in the first place, both of them wouldn’t have been going through this. Lily betrayed her first! “Little girls should not joke with fire. This was an agreement” Flamez said curtly, intruding into her thoughts. Flora laughed hysterically, holding her stomach. “I Flora Sue, joking with fire. Leave my bag now or else…” Flora stopped and stared at something behind Flamez with wide eyes. “What is it?” Flamez asked, turning to investigate.

Flora utilized that orchestrated distraction, snatched her bag from him and bolted through the door. But Flamez was having none of it, this bitch wasn’t getting away with his money. But hell, could she run? He never thought those long pretty legs could do anything better than cat walking, he must be out of shape. Flamez dived towards her and had both of them hurtling down the stones in front of the building. He grabbed her by the hair and gave her a quick back hand slap for tricking him, another one for wanting to get away with his money, a third for stressing him so much. Flora fought back like a wild cat but her efforts were nothing compared to the hulk before her.

This was the sight that confronted Chris as he drove past Guinea Casino. He drove very slowly, he didn’t trust himself to drive speedily that day, as he normally did. He might crash into something and he surely wouldn’t give a certain bitch the satisfaction of thinking he did it because of her. He quickly glanced at them and looked away. Was that an assassin or rapist or thief, he simply didn’t care. He was boiling with anger,he wanted to punch something. Another glance revealed the assaulter, Flamez, a popular gangster. Must be having problems with his girl then. Women! Will they ever stop being a total nuisance? For instance, just imagine, Lily asked her “fiance” to threaten him. Him! Christian Michael Chukwu! Jesus, this was driving him crazy. If he should get his hands on her, he would tear out her hair strand by strand. It wasn’t enough that she abruptly quit their relationship, if it could pass as one, on the phone with insults. She also had to get the stupid man she probably called her boyfriend to threaten him. Just what did she think she was? A diamond Princess? She thinks he would die without her? Chris laughed bitterly,he would show her that she meant absolutely nothing to him. Chris looked in the rear view mirror, the dude didn’t seem ready to stop slapping the Lady. He was hoping on having a quiet evening with a glass of wine and his video

Chris looked in the rear view mirror, the dude didn’t seem ready to stop slapping the Lady. He was hoping on having a quiet evening with a glass of wine and his video game, if Iyke hasn’t claimed it already. He considered wishing the lady well and hoping a gallant Knight comes to her rescue, but this road was a lonely one, filled with a million portholes. He follows it to avoid traffic, little hope of anyone coming to rescue the lady. He looked again, this time, the guy was dragging her all over the ground tearing her clothes, her kicking made it worse. Did this Flamez of a guy even have just a fraction of human heart. Looks like he’s her only saviour now. Chris rolled his eyes and reversed. Back to the ugly beating scene. He left his engine running, he just had to find out why the dude was determined to kill the lady, see what he could do about it and start going home already. He glanced at his watch, 5 o’clock! Shit, Iyke must be home now. Iyke’s a final year student for goodness sake, he should leave video games and study.

“Hey, hey. Easy dude, easy” Chris said, trying to calm Flamez down. “Back off” said through his teeth, wrapping his palms around the Lady’s neck. Did he want to strangle her? The lady kicked furiously. “Let go… Of me… You toothless…” Flora bit him “bastard” another bite. Flamez yelped in pain and gave her another resounding slap. Whao, the wench was a hellcat. Chris had to remind himself, he didn’t come to watch the fight. “Please, please. I will handle anything you might have against her”. Chris said cautiously. “5k” Flamez snarled, breathing hard, he hated the intrusion. He wanted to beat this bitch so thoroughly, she would be wearing her teeth in a cup beside her hospital bed for the rest of her life. She dared to play with fire.

“Sorry?” Chris asked. “This witch wants to run away with with my 5k” Flamez said again. “Give him his money na” Chris implored the lady. Her eyes and cheeks were badly swollen, with her lips bleeding. “Do you want him to kill you first?”
“I don’t… have 5k” Flora grimaced in pain, she could hardly move her jaws.
“5k…5k” Chris muttered. He moved over to his car and produced the money. Flamez collected the money and counted, still holding Flora by the hair with the other hand. It was complete. He pushed her away violently. “Na just your God save you. Witch”. Flamez spat out at Flora and shot Chris a who-are-you-anyway look, then turned and disappeared into the Casino. The guy was indeed toothless, Chris noted with amusement. How did he manage to talk. Chris squatted to see the lady, her face was battered beyond recognition. What business did she have with the likes of Flamez?

“Hi. I’m Christian. You are safe now” Chris said gently. Flora remained silent, staring down at her hands through swollen eyelids. “I can understand if you don’t want to talk. Mind if I take you home?” Flora nodded, then gave out a little cry. Even head movement was torturous. Huh? That should be a yes. “Easy, can you stand up?” Flora nodded again. Chris retrieved her handbag, then helped her into the car. “Where’s home?” Chris asked but Flora was already pretending to sleep. Aww, shit! Hope she has not passed out,not in his car please. Now what was he supposed to do? His home or hospital? So much for the quiet evening he looked forward to.

Politics / Controversial: Does Nigeria Have A Vice President – Must Read by Gistitydotcom: 9:44pm On Jul 13, 2016
It is no longer news that the Fulani led administration has put the fastest growing economy in Africa , and third fastest growing Economy in the world in 2014 under the Goodluck jonathan administration in shambles, with failing policies and Scandals, going back on every promise made to Nigerians, with basically no idea on how to run a government.

But the real question is: does Nigeria have a vice president? I remember actively campaigning for this government in 2015, believing that the “Track records of the almighty “GMB” was going to set the records straight, and lead Nigeria to a “New world”. Many Questions arose, amongst the popular ones were: how would a man in his “alleged 70’s” lead a country of over 140 million? An uneducated fellow (whose secondary school education is still doubted today) lead the said Number? How would a man who has a track record of ferocious statements, especially after the loss of the election in 2011, only to come apologizing to Nigerians years later, begging for sympathy just to be elected handle the affairs of Africa’s largest economy? A man who has been perceived to be a religious man lead the aforementioned Nation?

But it seemed that the “Jagaban” of Nigeria in person of Baba Tinubu played his cards very well, always representing the “Yourba Nation” well enough with new tricks up his sleeve brought out a wonderful solution to the above questions, encouraging those of us “Blind Supporters without pay” to carry on with the mission of “Change”. Hand picking a “Professor”, to compensate for the seemed secondary school level of Education, a “Pastor” of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, dissuading the idea of islamization of the Nation. And at last, all efforts of the “corrupt free” Duo Won.

Today, According to Nigeriantimes.org, the headline reads “Osinbajo has failed the South West – Afenifere”. A democratic government is supposed to be bothered about the opinions of its citizens, as well as accept some form of constructive criticism. All we have seen is the various commissioning of projects and initiatives of the previous administration. From various railway lines, to YouWin projects, and all others. Power generation has dropped to its lowest In years.

One year and running, and the Giant of Africa has become a pauper. Failed economic polices here and there. Fulani herdsmen has become the agenda of today. Corruption witch hunting has replaced infrastructural development. Using all means to recover stolen funds at the expense of national development. One of the latest victims of the witch-hunt Femi Fani-Kayode a prominent voice on social media appears to have gone silent lately on social media. Perhaps some form of rehabilitation occurred during the EFCC “encounter”.

Nigerians really expected so much more. At least from a professor and Senior Advocate of the country. We are really hoping that things get better because the cost of living has almost doubled, yet the government has no intentions of salvaging the nation. I would really rate performance of this government far below average. What would you rate the performance of the current administration?

Would you know a house girl had N2.4 billion deposited in her account if not because of Sai Baba? Metuh is begging to return N400 million because of Sai Baba. We cry that Sai Baba banned foreign rice, but think of what that will do for our local farmers and the economy. Our people don't eat local rice but imported rice, where we spend billions of naira growing other people's economies. The Sai Baba enemies will tell you to 'Buy Nigerian to grow the Naira,' but they're the ones who take loan from Nigerian banks to buy mansions in America, (and they don't eat local rice).
Sai Baba is ready to stay with you and die with you. He doesn't have houses abroad and won't run to anywhere and leave you. It's hard and as he said, bear with him. They'll be sunlight after the darkness. Bless you.

Politics / The Death Of Mko Abiola: A Curse Or A Blessing? by Gistitydotcom: 9:26am On Jul 05, 2016
The worst thing to have happened to Nigeria or a blessing in disguise?

Barely a week now since the south-west part of Nigeria celebrated June 12 and Late Chief. Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola as the evidence of democracy in Nigeria, many argue that June 12 the day MKO was presumed to have won the 1993 presidential election should be democracy day and not May 29.
His family even called on the federal government to declare him winner of the 1993 election, bestow upon him ex-president pay presidential entitlements to his family.
To many especially those in the south-west part of Nigeria, MKO is the best president Nigeria could have had till date. But to many others when it comes to issues relating to MKO, some questions are in dire need of answers. Although such questions could be numerous, a few of them are
1. If June 12 is an evidence of democracy, why is it mostly recognize in the south-west part of the country only?
2. The demands of ex-president entitlements made by his family members, is it also in the same faith with true democracy? Keep in mind that MKO family members are faring way better than an average Nigerian.
3. Did he truly sink a ship loaded with bibles and to what purpose?
4. Many say he was a philanthropist because he gave indiscriminately and that was why he was popular with most Nigerians. But could he also be the founding father of the practice in which Nigerians politicians see the need to buy votes with money only to try and amass as much as possible when elected? Is that not corruption?
The questions can go on and on but as many young Nigerians who were not aware of their surroundings and happenings back in 1993, answers should be provided to help youths learn and know their history better in order to avoid reoccurrence.

NYSC / NYSC: Scheme Or Scam? by Gistitydotcom: 9:18am On Jul 05, 2016
The federal government of Nigeria made it compulsory that every graduate from a tertiary institution must serve his Father Land as long as he or she is within a specified age bracket.
The whole idea of the NYSC scheme was to bring youths of different ethnic groups together in other to learn and respect each other’s cultures and values. This is very encouraging and recommendable. Also, the NYSC scheme was also to provide a Place of Primary Assignment for the youths where they would serve their father land in their capacity.

But it is unfortunate that our government cannot provide a place for the youths to serve. Every year we see youths roam the street in their NYSC uniform looking for a place to serve with most firms including government parastatals rejecting them. It is a shame that the same government that compelled the youths to serve are also rejecting their services.

It is very frustrating with the rumor that over a million was budgeted per corps member. Now why are the youths not feeling expensive?

In camps, corps members were told that no organization, especially government parastatal had the right to reject their services. That in fact, they were helping such organization out as they constituted cheap labor for such an organization. But it’s one thing to ‘talk the talk’ but can the federal government ‘walk the walk’? The answer is glaring; with thousands, if not millions of youths still roaming the streets in their uniform searching for a place to apply their skills and put into practice what they learnt in school.

Most youths that can compromised are being posted and taken in local primary and secondary schools with poor living conditions. While others that have jobs in their field of study must be very connected and know someone in such firm to pull strings for them to get it.

So the questions remain: is this NYSC worth it?
Is it a scheme or scam?
And is it by force if you can’t provide?

Politics / Should We Still Continue To Sai Baba Or NOT? by Gistitydotcom: 9:02am On Jul 05, 2016
Yesterday I had the luxury to join a government mass transit where people had different opinion about this administration. Before the mass transit headed to our destination arrived, we had to wait for more than 3 hours under the scourging sun. Most private cab men going towards that location ridiculously doubled, if not tripled, the transport fare but regardless the strong still struggled and overpowered the meek and gentle ones like me to get on board. So I had no other option than to bear the scourging sun hoping that a mass transit will arrive fast.

After much waiting, prayers and drama, one finally arrived and the ‘Gulder Ultimate Quest’ of who to enter first to get a seat began. After much pushing and scratching, I finally found myself standing in a jam packed mass transit. And it is worth to notice that even fishes in a sardine can has more breathing space than we had in the mass transit. But not withstanding, we paid and stood just to get home to our destination.

And then from no where, the argument about how bad/good this administration is started. And it is necessary to mention that I was a mere observer that had no strength to involve in the conversation. After much argument about whether to ‘Sai Baba or not’, a lady decided to narrate to us a true life story about a man that was a die hard fan of ‘Sai Baba’ in her neighborhood, despite the current economic challenges, the man was always defending baba because he had a job and hope of getting paid. Claiming that baba was the best thing to ever happen in our time and that people sacked from their jobs are people that might not be so effective in their respective jobs. And that he is assured that someone like him can never be sacked.

Then, for two weeks straight the lady observed that the man doesn’t go to work anymore. She approached to ask him but he said he was on leave. And the lady envious of him thought to herself ‘wow this man must be so lucky to get leave and still get paid when people looking for jobs can’t get paid’. After a couple days, the man’s wife approached the lady for money, telling her of how her husband was sacked from work and she needed about 100,000 naira for her pregnancy operation. Apparently the man was too ashamed to approach the lady. When the lady went to sympathize with him (and probably ask about baba), the man said its like he was receiving punishment for failing to feel the plights of others and for ‘Sai-ing Baba’.

Although the lady was telling the story to buttress her point that we should stop ‘Sai-ing baba’, I had to reflect on the moral of the story. But unfortunately my reflection was cut short by the mass transit almost involving itself in an accident with cows, controlled by herdsmen, that were crossing the highway. Please after escaping this accident, should I continue to ‘Sai Baba or Not?’

Literature / No Regrets by Gistitydotcom: 8:17am On Jul 05, 2016
We make mistakes. You and I.
Some minor. Some major. Some even fatal.
But the worst thing about mistakes, Is when you regret them.
We weren’t created with any default manual.

We only learn from what we read, see, witness, believe, figure out, learn.
Life is all about surviving, And if mistakes are what chart our paths; then we should embrace it as a norm.
If we let regrets sneak in and what if’s take over, You won’t see the wonderful opportunities hidden in that mistake.

Make your mistakes convincingly and wholeheartedly;
Embrace the consequences with astounding flair.
Peep into the crevice, and you’ll see colorfully wrapped boxes
Filled with a brighter future.
Don’t ever regret your choices and the mistakes they may be.
Just create the greatest existence you can with what you end up with.
Politics / Lessons Learned From PMB Regime by Gistitydotcom: 7:13am On Jul 05, 2016
As Nigerians, we tend to mostly see the bad in every situation and neglect the good or moral lessons. But I think in order to progress as a country, especially for common men like us, it’s necessary to sit back, analyze every situation and try to see what we can learn from it. Today’s case study will be ‘lessons learned by Nigerians from PMB’s regime’. Though the lessons are numerous and touches different people in different ways, today we are considering probably the ones that affects us all as a country.

PMB has proven that you don’t have to go to school to be a President
In fact from the look of things, you don’t even need to be educated to govern Nigeria. This gives hope to the common Nigerian who thinks of dropping out of secondary school but has been looking for the reason to convince his parents that he is not mad and he knows what he wants to be in life. Think no further, tell mummy, tell daddy that you want to be a president like PMB. After all when you get there you have the privilege of hiring seven or more so called ‘learned individuals’ to prove that you don’t have to pass through school to have a certificate.

Lying can be a profitable career if harnessed properly
If you have doubts about it, ask the man who told us that 1 Naira will equal 1 dollars once PMB wins. If that is not enough ask the man who promised you 5,000 Naira every month for being jobless. If you are still not convinced, ask the person that claims the country is running on an empty treasury left by last administration. Then the question is, can an engine wrong without fuel? Talk less of a whole country like Nigeria. If you are in doubt of how much he earns, the records of his recent trip to China will prove to you that lying is a profitable career.

Corruption depends on one’s perspective
Imagine, the legislative arm of government risk going to jail over a forgery case they claim to know nothing about but the leader of the executive arm of government can’t go to jail for forged certificate and inability to provide one. A sitting governor who has immunity got his personal account frozen but our minister, a former governor, whom people have written petitions to be probed, is roaming around and still spending freely.

Bearing the same name as an influential person might be a curse
If in doubt ask Aisha Buhari. I don’t know... Continue Reading

Politics / The Silence Of Nigerian Government On The Extrajudicial Killings In Southeast by Gistitydotcom: 1:59pm On Jun 24, 2016
It seems that there is a conspiracy of silence and sheer hypocrisy by the Nigerian government over the slaying of many Igbo sons and daughters in the southeastern part of the country. For weeks now, there has been deafening silence on the massive killings.

First, it was the Nimbo massacre in which dozens were slaughtered like cows and many other helpless villagers left with endless pains and agonies.

Not too long ago, it was the turn of Pro-Biafra agitators. In Onitsha, hell was let loose as Nigerian security forces coordinated attacks on the citizens. No matter the provocations, exercising professional competence is what distinguishes a modern-day security outfit. But not so in our country where a security man sees himself as lord over the helpless and bloody civilians.
According to one of the leading online investigative paper, www.premiumtimesng.com, an operative of the government who was part of the operation provided vital information on how the killings were done. His account certainly corroborates that of the IPOB and MASSOB members who have been complaining of the massive killings.
According to the whistleblower, the use of force started on the night of May 29th. Read this “while other members of the JTF were minimizing the use of force, soldiers recklessly opened fire at crowds, shooting at close range, and “wasting people indiscriminately.”
Continuing, he said that “it got to a point where injured pro-Biafra supporters, seeing the countless bodies of their colleagues on the ground, opened their arms wide, advanced towards the soldiers screaming that they too should be killed”.
Now read this one too, “Three military trucks were used to cart away heaps of dead bodies”.
This account and many others untold clearly show how lives are wasted almost daily. It is saddening that nothing in terms of arresting some persons who were involved in the killings has been done.
Even the South east governors and leaders of thought seem to be at lost on what to do. There is nothing at all. The military authorities cannot claim ignorance of the inglorious infamy by their soldiers and officers. Some persons coordinated the operation.
It is disheartening that a calamity of this magnitude would occur without anybody or authority blinking an eye.
The killers may have succeeded at the moment, but the repercussions will hunt us all forever.
We may not save the looming implications.

Politics / EFCC And Aisha Buhari Vs Fayose PART 1 by Gistitydotcom: 12:39am On Jun 24, 2016
Well, it all started when Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, cried out earlier in the week ‘EFCC has frozen my account’. This raised a lot of questions over what rights EFCC had to freeze the account of a sitting governor. Is it constitutional? What are the implications?

Still recovering from the ripples, Fayose punched back by releasing a document, a case of U.S congress man William Jefferson indicting the then sitting Nigeria Vice President Atiku and the First Lady Aisha Buhari. His reasons for the exposure was simple, if EFCC claims to be fighting corruption, they should start with this one. The evident is clear instead of freezing the account of a sitting governor whom still enjoys immunity by constitution (according to Fayose).
Although many lawyers have come out to twist and interpret the law in the way it suits them, that is not the topic of discussion right now.

In the wake of Fayose’s release of the documents, Aisha replied via her Twitter handle by calling the governor of Ekiti state a mad dog. Which, again, raised questions. By calling him a mad dog, are you denying the allegations? If it isn’t true, why not sue for dent on public image?

Not only did he call Fayose a mad dog, she continued ‘if my husband is old, I have enough energy to face you’. Hmmm, we are speechless. Does that mean that our president is too old and doesn’t have the energy to handle issues? Please we need explanations as Nigerians because her statement didn’t just stop by insinuating that Ekiti state is a psychiatry zoo for it to be governed by a mad dog’, it also rendered our president incompetent and powerless which as a country is totally not acceptable!

Although the insult and unmannered message was later deleted from her Twitter handle, it hasn’t undone the damages and has not answered the question of her innocent. A source has claimed that Aisha’s Twitter handle was hacked. We are still observing.

Literature / Life Is A Bed Of Roses by Gistitydotcom: 10:57pm On Jun 14, 2016
“Theresa why did you break that blender?! Do you have any idea how much it cost? ”
Mother scolded me as I slowly backed away from her furious stare and quickly scanned for a close escape route in case she decided to not spare the rod and not spoil the child.
Mother had just returned after a very tiresome day at work and was screaming at the top of her lungs for a chilled cup of water because she knew too well that I and my younger siblings were upstairs watching my favorite cartoonish character perform his world-saving tricks. He was always saving something and since he was my hero my eight-year old mind never told me that he couldn’t save me from the chaos I had caused as I danced a tango with an imaginary version of him through the kitchen straight into the blending machine that lay silently and peacefully on the kitchen counter-top. “You don’t value things! Just because I work hard to make life easy for you doesn’t mean Life is a bed of roses!”She yelled as she leaned her aching back on the counter-top and sighed continuously as I looked at her scared out of my wits as all my bravado I had mustered for when she arrived had deserted me as she yelled my name from the kitchen.
She was drained, I could see it in her eyes and I felt very guilty for what I had put my widowed mother through. Taking the bull by the horn I walked up to her instead of scowering away like my neighbor’s cat when confronted and stood behind her bent form.Tapping her,she turned and gave me a solemn sad look that spoke in volume s the intense grief she felt over the cruel blow life had dealt her with. “Mommy…Life is a bed of Roses because of you are in it. I am sorry..I would be careful from now on”I told her. Immediately she smiled, enveloped me within her arms and I could feel the warmth and intensity of her love outpouring like cascades of water from a spring.
Fifteen years later, I sat at a table wondering how I was going to get another cocktail from the bar across from me with my slit gown because I had no idea where my tipsy cousin had gone leaving me alone in this unfamiliar environment. I wouldn’t have allowed him talk me into coming with all because he bribed me to attend this luncheon with him so he could meet the governing student leaders in our university and solicit their help in his political career as the SUG President. This day was important to me because that was when I met him-Anthony!
