The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a stolen vehicle.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Haruna Muhammed, who confirmed the arrest said that in the early hours of Monday, August 5, at 03:30am, following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested the suspects at Ojoto in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.

They are: Emmanuel Amaechi, 35, Innocent Onyedikachi, 29 years, Obinna James, 20 years, Chukwuma Edeh, 22 and Tochukwu Owor, 27.

The suspects allegedly conspired and snatched a Toyota Camry 2009/2010 model at gunpoint in Onitsha from one Nzube Udegbu on the Sunday, August 9.

The snatched vehicle has been recovered and the case is under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.

A Nigerian jailed in Singapore for money laundering, has been charged to court for another fraud.

Paul Gabriel Amos, 48, allegedly defrauded one Milled El Khouri of S$37,800 to make bail. Court documents showed this incident happened between January and May 2018.

Amos was in remand at the time, with his original case pending conclusion. While behind bars, he allegedly tricked Milled into delivering the cash to someone named Chung Ting Fai.

In May 2019, Amos was sentenced to three years in jail for helping to launder US$1.84 million that his friend had stolen from the Ethiopian government.

In 2009, he was prosecuted in a New York district court for committing bank and wire fraud. If convicted of fraud now in Singapore, he could face up to 10 years. He is set to return to court on Aug. 28, 2019.

A Nigerian man has decided to get married to himself and he released a wedding invitation card, inviting friends to his "Holy Sologamy".

Sologamy is a marriage by a person to himself or herself, according to Wikipedia, and this is what Victor Ibeh, a popular Nigerian counsellor, is celebrating.

Victor, who has two Facebook accounts - one personal account and one business account, has updated both accounts to show that he's married to himself. He graciously accepted congratulatory messages from his followers wishing him well.

The lawyer, who is known to promote self-love on Facebook, also released a wedding invitation that reads: "It's love! You're invited to the Holy Sologamy of Victor & Victor."

The solo wedding is to hold on August 11, 2019, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The move seems to be the first of it's kind in Nigeria, a rather conservative country. There have been records of people wedding themselves in other countries but this has always been looked upon strangely by Nigerians living in Nigeria.

President Buhari claimed victory over Boko Haram insurgents as his administration marked the 10th year the terrorists started off its attacks in the north-east region.

Insisting that Boko Haram terrorism has been degraded and defeated, the Presidency claimed that “what we have now is a mixture of remnants of the Boko Haram, fugitive criminals and the Islam in Maghreb together with West African terrorists bonding together.”

The statement released by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu reads;

TEN YEARS OF BOKO HARAM: THIS HOW FAR THE BUHARI ADMINISTRATION HAS COME

The position of the Nigerian government is that the Boko Haram terrorism has been degraded and defeated. The real Boko Haram we know is defeated.

What we have now is a mixture of remnants of the Boko Haram, fugitive criminals and the Islam in Maghreb together with West African terrorists bonding together. This is a fall out of the collapse of the Libyan State, and from farther away, of the Islamic State in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. They are taking advantage of our porous Sahelian borders.

As a consequence of these international gangs, we have seen an increase of trans-border crimes and the proliferation of small arms in the Lake Chad Basin area. Outrages are common in Niger, Mali, Chad and Cameroon.

Nigeria is a large country covering nearly one million square kilometres. This is roughly equivalent to the size of France and Germany put together. In addition to our porous borders, in the neighbouring Sahel-Sahara region, a lot of ungoverned areas provide haven for terrorists’ occupation and training.

Without the tremendous efforts of our armed forces and the joint operations by the Nigeria-led Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, formed by the countries of the Lake Chad Basin, this single problem of illegal arms flow would have been much worse.

At the moment, the Nigerian government under President Muhammadu Buhari has made the country safer than it met it. In 2015 when he took power, Boko Haram terrorism was active in nearly half the number of states in the country. They controlled a territory the size of Belgium, with a flag and systems of administration and taxation of their own. Emirs and Chiefs had fled their domains along with hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens. Such is no more; they have been taken from them.

At present, terrorist activities have been confined to the remote, rural agrarian areas of Borno State and pockets of outrages in Adamawa and Yobe States.

As the situation develops, our fantastic armed forces are changing their tactics. Just recently, they launched “Super Camps.” The essence of this is to act proactively and respond quickly to the changing nature of terrorism.

In addition to the additional support the government of Nigeria is receiving from friendly countries across Europe, United States and the Middle East, the Nigerian government is spending large sums of money in weapons procurement to keep our military in good fighting shape.

While the military arsenal is not something you pay for and get, requiring mostly long-time orders, weapons will come in accordance with the terms of contracts. This country is expecting the commencement of the delivery of Super Tucano fighter jets, very effective in this kind of warfare, beginning next year from the United States.

The administration has embarked on an ambitious electronic/digital border monitoring scheme to curtail the porosity of the borders and, working with the UN agencies, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, donor agencies and friendly countries, has started providing solutions to backwardness in development and poverty in the sub-region because at the very heart of recruitment schemes of the terrorists lies the issue of poverty.

A few weeks ago, the administration inaugurated the Northeast Development Commission, to fast track development and poverty eradication in the affected areas.

The Buhari administration is strongly encouraged by successes recorded so far by our armed forces and the MNJTF, and is optimistic that in the same way as our military defeated the Boko Haram, so would the ISWA terrorism be defeated.

This is coming barely 72 hours after Boko Haram insurgents killed over 60 mourners at a village in Borno State.

Governors of the five states of the South East Zone rose from a closed-door meeting in Enugu yesterday and reaffirmed its stand on the federal government’s planned RUGA settlement programme.

In a Communiqué issued by the forum and read by its chairman and Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, the forum said it still maintained its earlier decision that there is no land in the South-east for the federal government’s planned RUGA programme.

The forum said it reviewed the security situation in the zone and in response to the emerging security challenges, decided to set up both a committee and centre for South East Integrated Security Monitoring and Intelligence gathering to be centrally located in Enugu.

The forum also said the security committee would also address the safety of fuel pipeline route to Enugu Depot to ensure that pumping of petroleum products in Enugu depot resumes in the shortest possible time.

The forum said it would key into the federal government’s community policing programme, adding that forest guards would be established in each state and roads cleared up to 50 meters into the bush to have a clear view of roads ahead.

‘’After discussing extensively the comparative advantages of agriculture and the attendant benefits in the South-east, the forum resolved to put funds together to fund the people of the region who are interested in rice, cow rearing, piggery, goat rearing and other cash crops permitted by their soil,’’ the forum said.

While noting that states in the South-east have abundant oil and gas reserves, the forum called on the federal government to rather show more commitment and commence intensive exploration and development of both resources in the region.

The forum, while commending the federal government for the steady progress on the 2nd Niger Bridge project, also urged it to take more meaningful action in fixing some of the roads in the region.

In attendance at the forum were Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Abia State governor, Okezie Ipkeazu; Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi; Imo State Deputy Governor, Gerald Irona; and Anambra State Deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke.

A resident doctor at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has died after collapsing during the National Executive Council meeting of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, in FMC, Yenogoa, Bayelsa State.

The incident happened on Thursday and according to one of his colleagues, the deceased, identified as Stephen Ijeuwe, had a cardiac arrest.
.
He was allegedly rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of the hospital, where CPR was carried out on him, but they were later told that the hospital had only one defilbrillator which was not functioning. He died some minutes later.

A Twitter user took to the platform to accuse Ebuka of picking Big Brother Naija female housemates from prostitutes he's slept with. He later went inbox to apologize and reveal that he did it for clout and Ebuka exposed his inbox messages.

Twitter user @ZakeIsC took to his timeline to say that Ebuka favours "high class ashawo" for positions in the BBNaija house. He claimed Ebuka only chooses female housemates from women he's slept with. He further said Ebuka carried "all Anambra ashawo put in the house".

After making the false accustions on his timeline, he didn't clear the air in public the same way he made the allegations publicly, instead he went inbox to tell Ebuka that he only said it to get people's opinions.

Ebuka exposed his private chat and wrote: :My life with baseless allegations every season."

An eight-year-old girl Aisha Sani, who was kidnapped two weeks ago in Tudunwada quarters of Kano State by unknown lady, has been found dead.

According to reports, Aisha, who was abducted when she closed from an Islamiyya School with her siblings, was taken away by another lady who covered her face with veil. The suspected kidnapper and her gang members reached out to Aisha's parents one week later, demanding N200 million ransom.

The kidnappers further requested that the ransom should be given to her mother who would now take the money to them. Sadly, after two weeks of intensified search and investigations by the police, little Aisha’s corpse was found on Monday. She was hacked to death by her kidnappers.

Her parents have taken custody of her body for burial.

The Ogun state police command have arrested three men for allegedly killing an aged couple, James Olaosebikan, 72, and his wife, Esther, 68, at their Sagamu home on June 30th.

The state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspects, Ibrahim Uthman, Aba Abdulkareem and Abdulhamid Ibrahim, said the men had gone into the house to rob. However the couple recognised them and in order to cover up their crime, the suspects hacked the aged couple to death, The incident was immediately reported to the police by the couple's son, Joseph Olaosebikan.

“Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, ordered the DPO of Sagamu Division, SP Okiki Agunbiade, to fish out the killers within the shortest possible time. The DPO and his men embarked on technical and forensic investigation of the case and their efforts yielded positive result with the arrest of three members of the gang.

They confessed being members of a robbery gang and that one of their colleagues, now at large, invited them for the purpose of robbing an old couple and a nearby shop. But on getting to the house, they discovered that the couple recognised one of them, hence they killed them''Oyeyemi said

The police spokesperson added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to take over the case for proper investigation.
