A 22 year old student of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), #Yola, #AdamawaState, has been arrested by Taraba state police command for aiding the kidnap of his own 10-year-old sister, Amina Umar, on her way to school.

Abdulbasit Umar, alongside two other accomplices, Sadiq Sani and Abdullahi Habib, were said to have demanded the sum of N10 million as ransom to free Amina. .

Spokesman of the state police command, DSP David Misal, explained that officers of the State Investigative Bureau arrested the trio enroute to collect a ransom of N4 million which they later settled for. .

The major suspect, Abdulbasit, who spoke to newsmen, said he had not done such before but needed the money to study abroad. According to him, “my aim was that after collecting the money, I would proceed with my education abroad.”

A Vehicle Inspector Officer was killed by a mob in Mariga Local Government Area of the state yesterday Thursday October 3rd.

According to reports, the VIO officer spotted three fulani youths namely Malami Mohammed, Juli Musa and Dawa Ali, riding on an unregistered motorcycle. He ordered the motorcycle rider to stop for interrogation but they declined.

The VIO officer decided to engage the Fulani youths in a hot chase. Sadly, the youths ran into a moving trailer with registration No. FKJ 512 XW that was coming from Tegina- Kampani Bobi area. All of them were crushed by the trailer and they died on the spot.

Realising he was in danger as people were gathering the remains of the deceased youths, the officer ran towards Kampani Bobi Police outstation for safety but he was pursued by irate mob and lynched.

The state police command says it is investigating the matter and will bring all those involved in the dastrad act to book.

A rape victim has identified one Abiodun Makinde as the person, who allegedly raped her and went away with her pants.

Makinde allegedly raped the woman penultimate Thursday but was arrested the following day after he robbed two other women of their belongings.

The victim was said to have reported the incident to the police and the suspect was later apprehended after he was identified by his latest victims.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated these in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said Makinde was a member of a one -chance robbery syndicate that specialised in terrorising commuters on the Sango/Owode-Idiroko Road in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO stated, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call made by the duo of Gloria Edoh and Saidat Akinola, who complained that they both boarded a cab from Owode to Sango, but on getting to the Olokopupo area of Atan Ota, two men they met in the car suddenly brought out knives and other weapons, with which they forced them to surrender their belongings.

“The sums of N37,000 and N48,000 were collected from each of them as well as their Tecno phones, after which they were pushed out of the moving vehicle and sustained varying degrees of injury.

“They subsequently found their way to a nearby hospital for treatment, but while returning from the hospital, they sighted and identified Abiodun Makinde as one of the hoodlums, who robbed them hence they raised the alarm.

“The alarm they raised attracted the DPO, Atan Ota, SP Abiodun Salau, who was on a routine patrol of the area with his men and they raced to the scene, where the suspect was arrested with the help of members of the public.

“On getting to the station, one woman (name withheld), who had earlier complained of a similar incident, also identified the suspect as one of the hoodlums, who robbed and raped her on September 12, and made away with her pants.

A Corporal in the Nigerian Army, Femi Awotayo, has been arrested and is being detained at a police facility in Calabar for allegedly killing a police Inspector, Christopher Achong, at a checkpoint in Cross River State.

Awotayo, who serves with the 707 Special Force Brigade in Benue State, was arrested with four others after the incident.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent on Monday.

“We arrested the soldier and four others. They are at the state Criminal Investigation Department for interrogation after which they will be prosecuted,” she said.

It was gathered that the incident happened at Anyikang in the Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, when Achong, who was leading a patrol team, stopped a commuter bus on the Ogoja-Katsina Ala Expressway.

The bus was said to be conveying passengers to Calabar, about 300 kilometres away.

Sources in Bekwarra said an argument ensued between the soldier and the inspector, which degenerated into a clash after which the inspector was rushed to the General Hospital in Bekwarra for treatment, where he later died.
