Apart from the xenophobic attacks going on in South Africa, the country is also battling with gender based violence thathas seen countless women and children raped in the past couple of months.

South African president, Cyril FRamphosa while addressing the issue of gender based violence in a series of Tweets last night wrote, '...and to MEN we say you have an important role to play in speaking out against gender-based violence, actively playing a role in transforming your own and other men’s attitudes towards women based on their sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual identity'.

Three students of the Ondo College of Health Technology, Akure, who allegedly gang-raped a female undergraduate (name withheld) of the institution were on Monday arraigned before a magistrate court, sitting in Akure, the state capital.

The accused persons, Adeboboye Damilola, Blessing Michael and Eyitayo Charles, were all brought before the court by the police on an eight-count charge, which boderded on armed robbery, rape, illegal possession of firearms and cultism.

Recall that we had reported how the victim (name withheld), a student at the Environmental Health Technician Department of the government-owned college was gang-raped at “Barristers Lodge,” Olofinlade Layout, Oda Road, Akure by the trio.

Meanwhile, the three suspects were also alleged to have before the incident, raped a student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA and as well attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of another lady identified as Miss Oladele Damilola.

Also, the defendants were alleged to have robbed one Israel Segun and Adedayo Foluso of the money, handsets, and laptops at gunpoint.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Abdulateef Suleiman, who seek for the remand of the accused persons in prison custody, was countered by counsel to the second defendant as well as counsel to the first and third defendants, Mr. Banjo Ayelakin and Mr. Olutoye Adeyanju as they argued that they were served with the application few hours before the court proceeding.

They, however, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable them to study the application properly.

In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel admitted the prayer of the counsels and ordered for the remand of the accused persons in police custody.

Magistrate Bob-Manuel subsequently adjourned the case to September 5, 2019.

Fear has gripped residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, following the killing of a 22-year-old woman.

The Nation learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday at Oke-Ogba area of Akure, about 7pm.

It was gathered that the woman was operating a point of sales (POS) at Oke-Ogba junction, off Agagu Road, Akure when the gunmen attacked her.

The murder occurred barely 24 hours after a middle-aged worker with a publishing company located at Ajipowo was also shot dead in a night robbery.

The incident happened on Ajipowo/Ogundipe Estate, off Ondo Road/Customs Junction, Akure.

The Benue State Police Command, Thursday, paraded 17-year-old Terna Taga who impregnated 10-year-old Mbasenengen Targba who last Sunday was delivered of a baby girl in Makurdi.

Also paraded were two alleged firearms manufacturers, Terhembafan Sevav and Vishii Avav and their accomplices Mkarvter Shagbe and Terseer Makuna who were recently arrested in Vandeikya Local Government Area, LGA, with three AK 47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition, two single barrel pump action guns, two locally made pistols, four magazines, one gas cylinder, assorted gun manufacturing tools and charms.

While being paraded by the Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr Garba Mukaddas at the Command headquarters, 17-year-old Taga confessed to being responsible for Mbasengen Targba’s pregnancy and father of the newborn baby claiming he slept with the 10-year-old twice.

“Yes I slept with Masenengen twice in December last year with her consent, I did not rape her,” Taga said.

Also paraded were 11 others for alleged child trafficking, kidnappings and armed robbery who were all arrested in parts of the state.

According to Mukaddas, Daniel Achogwu of Otukpo town was arrested after he allegedly took a pregnant minor to Aba, Abia State where the victim was delivered of a child that he sold to an unknown person. The matter is still being investigated.

Also, he said few days ago, a victim from Vandeikya LGA reported that some unknown persons had called and threatened him to pay them the sum of N2million or they would kidnap and kill him.

“Investigation led to the arrest of one Godwin Terfa who was arrested in his hideout at Tsav village. He has already confessed to the crime,” Mr. Mukaddas said.

The body of an accident victim is currently at Garaku General Hospital, in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A young man survived the same accident and is receiving treatment in the hospital.

A Facebook user posted the photos few days ago seeking for their families.

"With a heavy heart I announce to the public if there is anybody that knows this lady should pls come to Garaku general hospital share pls till it gets to her relatives. May the soul of the departed rest in peace and may God give her family the fortitude to bear this great lost thanks"

Pastor Issac Pada of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Lugbe, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has raised alarm over the disappearance of his wife and four children.

According to NAN, Pada said the incident happened at Lugbe in Abuja on July 30, while he had gone to work.

He explained that his wife, Precious and four children, Pearl, 8, Pathnel, 6, Pamebelo, 3 and Peace, 7 months were at home at the time he left for work.

Pada, said when he returned home at about 8.22 p.m. on same day, his wife and the children had gone missing.

“Every effort I have made to reach my wife has yielded no result as her phone has been switched off and her family members and relatives I contacted said they did not know her whereabouts.

“There was no quarrel between us before I left for work. I even gave her the money she demanded for her personal use a day before her disappearance with the children,” he said.

Pada said he had reported the incident to the Lugbe Divisional Police Station.

A source at the station who did not want to be identified confirmed that the matter had been reported at the division.

The source said that investigation into the matter had commenced.
