LPG was once a cheaper alternative to Kerosene .

When we all moved to LPG for cooking, today LPG and Kerosene are almost the same price.

https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Nigeria/kerosene_prices/

Nigeria Kerosene prices
Liter Gallon
NGN 1,769.860 6,699.646

n1769 / litre

even worse than AGO

which is why there is no more mixing kerosene with diesel

Why are u deliberately misquoting me despite the fact that I’ve clarified my statement up there ?

Is something not being popular the same thing as not being in use at all. 🤷‍♂️

japanese cars were a joke until the 70s opec oil crisis
americans were not interested in them
then they became the standard because they are fuel efficient
today they are the preferred cars all over the world

we are in an energy crisis that is partly due to the fact that we have made petrol our primary source of energy.
so should we continue doing things as we have , seeing as we are not making any headway or should we explore alternatives?
incidentally, this is how fortunes are made.

don't join others in complaining about the noise when opportunity is knocking

For starters, how many CNG trucks do we have in this country sef before u start comparing the rate of accident of PMS tanker and CNG tanker?

Anyways, below is link to a CNG truck explosion as recent as June 2024

https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2024/06/04/four-dead-as-cng-truck-explodes-in-rivers/

One had earlier happened in Ogun state and below was the excerpts of the FG delegation's visit to the scene:

https://punchng.com/fg-delegate-visits-ogun-gas-explosion-scene/

Between me and u, does this inspire any confidence?

Ekpo said, “Nigeria’s gas resources are up to 208 trillion cubic feet and we have to make use of it in the way that it should be to drive the economy of this nation.

as an aside,

this is what you should be focusing on
and the fact that it is likely far cheaper to process CNG than refine PMS

How many CNG tankers ply our roads, compared to petrol?

I have seen almost 20 tankers today. I have not seen one CNG

Counter that argument with another point, my Lord

if someone else said this, i would beleive, but you, a veteran transporter?

no talk like this chief

i see axxella trucks well well for our axis

and as for lpg, dont tell me you dont see lpg trucks oo

Read my post again. I asked why is CNG powered vehicles not popular in the West, I never said it is not being used. Prior to advent of electric vehicles, CNG vehicles were not popular in the west. Since the advent of electric vehicles, CNG vehicles are still not as popular as Electric vehicles . Why?

Are u boldly saying India and Pakistan have deplorable roads like Nigeria? I listed factors that makes CNG seem unsafe in our clime and I mentioned bad roads as one of those factors. I was not making an argument for whether what works in Pakistan & India will or will not work in Nigeria. I mentioned factors peculiar to Nigeria.

Do you not see cng and lpg trucks on the same bad roads? So how come the accidents are mainly limited to petrol tankers?

I actually think I can tell you why. The technology to fabricate safe lpg tanks is not locally available. Can't say for cng but definitely the case with lpg.

I honestly don't see it as a reprieve for vehicle owners o. Like u rightly said, there's a risk of "Naija anyhowness" in play here; Nigerians are not known to be the most saftey conscious set of people. I've seen people smoking weed while driving before. Shey na people wey wan use gas power vehicle be that?

Our bad roads too are a serious concern here. Even in major cities like Lagos, Abuja, PHC, etc there are several bad roads here and there. There are countless times ur vehicle's bumper will hit the floor because of bad portion of the road. Have u ever wondered what could happen if u have CNG cylinder in ur booth when the backside of ur vehicle knack ground ? grin

Abeg o. All those Pakistan, India get good roads o; we no too get.

Pakistan and India have far more in common with Nigeria than the west. They have the same infrastructure challenges. They are still largely third world countries. So if a product works in India, it will work in Nigeria.

Go and buy a uk made generator changeover and an Indian changeover

The UK one is not designed for repeated use, as they do not have power failures in UK. The Indian one is designed for heavy use and easy repair.

I have lost count of how many made for West technologies that have failed within weeks of being deployed in Nigeria because they cannot work with low voltage, power failure, Nigeria petrol, etc

Also The same Nigeria anyhow less applies to your car. You think your car is safe? A three ton machine carrying combustible material in its tank, mismanaged by mechanics? So why do you still drive your car?

People carry gas in their cars all the time. Don't you carry gas in cylinder? And it is not only steel, there are fiberglass cylinders. So what is the difference?

Have you not been seeing accella trucks carrying cng?

Everything u tryped up here is false equivalence.

Number 1 , converting original PMS powered vehicle to CNG is something that is new to us in this clime. The conversion definitely has its dangers which can be further exacerbated by the fact that some chances of error adopting a new technology can be extremely high.

Maybe if people were buying brand new CNG powered cars we wouldn't be much worried but doing conversion ? There are chances that the errors and omissions can be made during the conversion process which might spell danger not just for the car owner but other road users.

The CNG gas is a pressured gas. What do u think will happen when a car running on pressured gas meets bad roads like East-West road in rivers state or those roads in Edo state Obaseki has refused to repair because they are federal roads?

Finally, if CNG is that safe and cheap, why is it that CNG vehicles are not popular in countries in the West? Instead those countries go for electric vehicles that cost them more to recharge. Why?

As an engineer I will never look to the west for solutions

I will look at what has been deployed in countries analogous to Nigeria. Indonesia, Pakistan india

You already know why third world countries don't go for electric cars. Because they require electricity. Westerners who have more energy than they can deal with and are energy hogs can go for evs. Also they are insulated from the big lie about evs that they are cleaner. All evs do is move the footprint.

And you are actually wrong there too, cng vehicles are used in the west. I know this because I had to research cng filling stations.

Also, Since cooking gas can explode, we may as well use firewood. Is that a better analogy?

For the Olodos who only learn from Twitter noisemakers, the fg is investing heavily in cng

https://statehouse.gov.ng/news/president-tinubu-directs-mandatory-procurement-of-cng-powered-vehicles/

Also this

https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/natural-gas-locations#/find/nearest

Finally evs have 0 resale value. The key element in the ev is the battery. We rarely buy brand new here so evs cannot catch on a commercial level. Bikes, Keke, but full sized sedans? I can't see it happening.

Don't enter plane it is dangerous

CNG is a mature technology. Nothing new to see. They have been using it in India and Pakistan since the 90s.

It is actually electric vehicles we should be worried about imho, esp in Nigeria where people can cut out safety features

It was an unprecedented attack in Lebanon. Yes, someone possibly rigged pagers* and those pagers were used in the open world! In the end, when those pagers blew up, people died and many were injured.

Good People, I have been thinking about the bravado of that tactic without the political element of it. If warfare could go into that level, is America safe? Is Nigeria safe? Is the world safe? Yes, China makes most of the electronics we use around the world, and is at frictions with the Western world.

Think about it: if they know they will go after Taiwan in 2 years and decide to “soup” TVs, phones, pagers, etc they sell to the world with a timer for those devices to blow up, is that legal? I mean that is a natural rapture as the world will fold.

I am stunned – truly stunned on what is happening in this amazing world. Is your phone safe? Is your reading light safe? Is your wristwatch safe? In the past, they used to blow such in controlled cells, but not like in an open market! I hope the United Nations will call everyone to order because a world without a rule will be gone!

An African axiom reminds us that “no one sells poison in the open market”, implying that even the bad people do not go to the market distributing poisons. We must tighten a global rule of engagement! Blowing pagers in the way done in Lebanon does not advance our shared global values. It sets a precedent which could destroy the future of our planet.
