If you submitted your DS 160 for Lagos, and you don't mind still going for your interview this week. You can reach me. There's an appointment date that we want to cancel/reschedule. If you are fast enough, and with a strong network, you will be able to pick it. |

Yes..at the Abuja embassy, you don't even need to pay for that service. Lolaayinkeade1: Good Morning House. Please I have a question. In the abuja embassy, are there lockers where you can keep your phones? Is it free? And if its not, how much do they charge? Cos I don’t have any trusted person to go with me. |

At your last paragraph, yes. So try it again. LegendKing: Hi do you have an idea if payment through the bank is working at the moment? Or has anyone paid with the bank recently?
I tried paying even with foreign cards but it doesn't seem to work, I just assumed it'd due to the current pause on appointments. |

Yes you can. Safest done two weeks before your interview. Moonlightq: Thank you for your response , I will do that.
Lastly , if I book an appointment with the ds160 I can I change the DS 160 confirmation number later before my interview if need be? |

2. This will be done between the DSOs of the two schools involved. MikePaulGh: Hello House, 2 quick questions
1. Is there anybody here by chance going to university of minnesota?
2. Is it advisable to change my school to another after securing visa (COA matters) and how to go about that |

Congratulations on the approval of your visa. Have a nice time in the US. Make sure you focus well on your studies. ugorjimicheal: Lol, I won't call that travel history. But, I visited India and Dubai about 14 years ago. I've also been to SA, and the normal Ghana, Togo, etc, West African countries. But again, none of them has been in the last 5 years. |

Do you have travel history? ugorjimicheal: Good guys, i have a question.
My profile is as follows:
I'm a software engineer with 3+ years of experience COA is $30k (no funding) - (I tried securing funding, but I didn't get it) I can sponsor myself, but I would also like to add my mum as a sponsor. So we will be joint sponsors.
What has the experience of people with my kind of profile been?
I've seen fully funded guys denied, but I've not seen much of those that even went without funding. I can actually afford the education because I will only be paying tuition and fees. Accommodation is sort of covered. But again, even with being genuine what do you think I should do ? |

You have to provide the answers that you gave to those questions asked for better insight. Also, you will need to perfect your profile, transcript and also attend some mock interviews. What school did you apply to? phatlytall: Had my interview on the 21st of May, 2025 Profile Msc - Construction management Coa - 44,414 Deficit - 4,977 F1 and f2 But i was the only one that attended the interview Interviewed by bald young man.
1) how many schools did I apply to 2) why this university 3) how did you get to meet your PI 4) Why are you a professional and a researcher.
Denied.
Looking to allow apply again but now without my spouse and firming up on my hometies
None of my answers indicated home ties. I think that was the issue.
Any help will be appreciated. |

UWC. The person was not asked to pay another MRV fee because of a change in location, but because they had exhausted the five allowed reschedule attempts. Teettyllayho: Thank you for your response. I know the question has been trashed but things are changing. Which was why I asked if anyone has done it recently. I want to be sure as someone said they were asked to pay another mrv and reschedule because they changed locations. I just want to be sure. Thank you again. |

You don't need to pay any MRV fee to change your interview location. You can go through the previous threads This issue has been trashed. Teettyllayho: Hello everyone,
Please who has changed their location on Avits portal recently? I'm getting conflicting information. Someone said I have to pay another Mrv fee if I want to change my location.
I chose Lagos but I want to change to Abuja.
Note: I've not submitted my DS-160 |

Okay. If adding the new job won’t have any significant impact on your overall profile and previous application, you can leave things as they are. However, if you believe it would, then include it, as it will also form part of your response when asked about any changes since your last visit. akinpelu746: Program: Master’s in Computer Science No GRE/TOEFL Cost of Attendance: $26,793 (deficit: $10,000) Work Experience: 4 years Current Role: DevOps Engineer |

What would you say was the reason for omitting it in the first place? That’s where the issue lies. One VO might listen to your reason and accept it, another might listen and still not accept it, while another might not even give you the chance to explain and just proceed with their decision and even leave a negative comment on your profile.

Hello MikePaulGh, Congratulations on your F-1 visa approval — I’m truly happy for you! However, it’s important I make a few points clear: 1. Nairaland is an open forum, which means anyone can participate here regardless of their work, work ethics, intentions, or experience. It’s your personal responsibility to filter the advice you choose to listen to — whether it’s shared openly or through private conversations. 2. Please avoid generalizing what worked for you or using it as a basis to downplay the value of process, structure, and shared knowledge. Mock interviews and studying potential interview transcripts are valid and beneficial practices. They are part of what helps many people succeed in securing an F-1 visa. I won’t go into the details of their benefits now, but they remain relevant and helpful. 3. Regarding your mention of an agent allegedly trying to scam you — while it’s true that a genuine helper may not necessarily ask you to DM them, it’s also possible that certain information or advice might be better shared privately, given that this is an open forum. If it involves a paid service, that alone doesn’t classify it as a scam. However, if you paid for a service and didn’t get the promised value, it would be responsible to call out the individual so others can be cautious. Once again, congratulations on your visa approval — wishing you the very best in your academic journey ahead! MikePaulGh: Thanks to almighty. I got my approval today.
First time applicant.
One of the so called agents on this forum disguising as contributor actually frustrated me. I had to sit myself down what exactly is my problem that I will allow some semi illiterate scam me. I differed my admission and started the process myself, with tips I get here and there on this forum (who is genuine in assisting you will likely not tell you to chat him privately).
I didn't do any Mock or study any potential question and answer (no 2 applications are the same).
At the end of the day, all went well to His glory. |

You’re welcome. With this new update, I think you might just be adding more salt to the injury. It’s better to leave it as it is and keep your story consistent. It’s only reasonable to increase your stated salary if you’ve been to the embassy within the past year — and even then, the increment should be logical, provable, and consistent with labor laws and the general logic behind salary increases. So, unless it meets those conditions, it’s safer not to make any adjustments. Godfreyalfred44: Thank you so much, I am just merging the adjunct lecturing to the previous role of working with an NGO, then I increased the salary, the previous job is still there? |

You can schedule your interview at any location where you eventually find a favorable date, even if your DS-160 was originally submitted for a different location. All you need to do is fill out a new DS-160 for the new location, then raise a ticket on AVITS with your new DS-160 confirmation number and request for an update. Note: It’s safest to do this at least a week before your interview. Although AVITS typically updates records within 24 hours, if you make the change too close to your interview date, it might not be processed in time. This is because preparations for each interview date would have already been made by another department — including the printing of DS-160 barcodes for all applicants scheduled for that day. If you’ve been to the embassy before, you’ll recall there’s usually a list containing the DS-160 barcodes of every applicant for that particular day. ktancing: You can always fill a new DS-160 to correlate with your interview location. In my case, I'd selected Lagos when filling my initial DS-160 but I was only able to get a date in Abuja. So I filled a new DS-160 selecting Abuja. Then I created a ticket on AVITS (the visa portal) and asked them to link my new DS-160 to my visa application while attaching my new DS-160 confirmation that shows Abuja. They did and I printed new Visa appointment confirmation.
I hope this helps. |

My earlier comment still stands — be very careful with any changes you make to a previously submitted DS-160. It has caused serious complications for some people, complications that only God can resolve. Here’s my advice: if you’re confident you did everything right at your first interview, then prepare yourself and go back for another one. Sometimes, even when you’ve done everything correctly, a denial can still happen. That’s why I don’t rush to condemn denial transcripts. That said, your transcript actually does appear flat. Also, be careful not to verbally say anything during your interview that isn’t already reflected in your DS-160 or your I-20. I wish you success, going forward! Godfreyalfred44: PhD fully funded denied. Transcript. Vo. Why do you want to study in the USA? Ans. I want to study in the us because the us have one of best systems for social work education in world. Cuts in. How many schools applied? Told her. Where do u work: told her the two jobs but the second job wasn't listed on the DS160.
Please tips for my next interview. Can I now include the second job on the DS160? |

Yeah, a serious red flag, especially if you were not able to defend using a US company financial statement. Your reasons might be genuine, but in Nigeria? It is what it is! Just be aware that you’ll have to defend any changes made to your previously used DS-160, as they still have those records. So, you need to be very careful with any minor or major adjustments you plan to make. Ensure you have a strong, genuine reason for any changes, and hopefully, you'll get a VO who’s willing to listen and give you the benefit of the doubt. akinpelu746: I need some help please.
I was denied a visa for an F1. I have a deficit of $9K. I used a US company in my DS-160, which I think was a red flag.
However, I want to fill out a new DS-160. Should I remove the employer or move the company to a previous employer since I already added them to my DS-160? |

..."seek the assistance of an experienced person" what other better experience can the "experienced person" have that you have not shared 😆 💯 👏 Efetobore1980: Hello. You are definitely doing something wrong. Those two (2) aforementioned debit/credit cards are always effective except if there is something funny (owners- mismatch info).
** Also, you saying the option of paying with local currency is not working actually affirmed that you' re doing something wrong.
** Go and fill ds-160 completely and submit. Then go back to your profile (avits) and cancel pending appointment. After that you should start afresh and choose bank deposit (physical appearance in the bank) instead of card payment.
** If you are still not getting it then seek the assistance of an experienced person. 👍 |

Congratulations on securing a $40,000 (₦64 million+) educational loan, which only covers your first year of study abroad! It's quite straightforward: after completing your studies, you'll return to your beloved country, Nigeria, to work and start repaying the loan in dollars while earning in naira. The Visa Officer will certainly be impressed by your commitment and well-thought-out plan! Successoke: Good Evening everyone, Please I need your opinions. I got admitted into MTU and IIT No funding for MTU however I was able to secure a 40k loan with Mpower. While IIT gave me 25k scholarship. Someone is suggesting I go with MTU since the loan will cover tuition and living expenses that way I will be able to get some sort of funds for rent and other expenses. I'll like people who are attending or have attended IIT to help shed more light on prospects of securing jobs to help cushion living expenses. Sorry for the long post please. Thank you. |
