The Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria (C-ISOWN), Rivers State Chapter, partnered with the Centre for Creative Development Strategies (CCDS), Amaclare Connect Development Initiative, and Janikoba to successfully commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 through the "Pad A Girl Programme,"

...with the theme: "Together for a Period Friendly World."

The event drew approximately 150 attendees — including secondary school girls, a number of boys, students from Rivers State University and others — all coming together around the shared goal of championing menstrual health awareness.

It took place on Tuesday, 26th May 2026, at the FVCA Auditorium, 26 Saint John's Ogbogoro Road, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.
Participants engaged in lively, informative sessions covering essential topics such as proper menstrual care, pain management, personal hygiene, and breaking down the stigma that too often surrounds menstruation.

Sanitary pads were also distributed to attendees, reinforcing healthy hygiene habits and helping girls feel more confident throughout their cycles.

Beyond education, participants were inspired to step into the role of Menstrual Hygiene Advocates — empowered to spread awareness, support their peers, and drive change within their schools and communities.

The programme proved to be a vibrant, impactful space for learning, open dialogue, and meaningful advocacy around menstrual health.

**A Call to Action**
Menstrual hygiene is everyone's responsibility. We urge individuals, organizations, schools, parents, and community leaders to champion menstrual health through education, awareness, and better access to hygiene products.

Today we visited school for children with special needs, at 68 Creek Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State; to facilitate the Menstrual Hygiene Education and Pad Making workshop for the junior school.

This intervention recognizes the importance of reaching out to the children with special needs, and despite their impaired conditions, it was an amazing experience to train them and educate them in this Programme.

Hence, they're not left out in our girl-child and menstrual justice advocacy. Thus, they, including their teachers were glad to have us today.

And a sewing machines was donated to the junior school, to help them facilitate the skill.

I felt blessed for joining the Center for Creative Development Strategies on 3rd July, 2025 to visit school for children with special needs, at 68 Creek Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State; to facilitate the Menstrual Hygiene Education and Pad Making workshop.

Reaching out to the special school (school for impaired children) hits differently - completely emotional and, it became a platform to really appreciate God.

Notwithstanding, these boys and girls joined in this Menstrual justice advocacy and Pad-a-girl workshop with happiness - they were willing to learn - intelligent and beautiful set of students.

Ensure you read to the end...

1. Do not make any new year RESOLUTION. See number 19 for the reason.

2. This new year, change your mindset. Do not believe that, what doesn't work for others won't work for you no matter what happens. If people around you are struggling, do not be discouraged. The fact that it didn't work for them doesn't mean it won't work for you.

3. If your circle or network of friends aren't impactful to your life, career, spiritual growth, and other endeavours, CHANGE THEM UNAPOLOGETICALLY - With the network of people who matter, you're halfway to your success and breakthrough

4. Read good books, and listen to tapes that are life-changing. Hidden treasure are there.

5. Do not sleep for so long. You do not have much time to waste, especially as a young folk. If you slumber a lot, stop it and thrive.

6. Be loyal to people despite their creed, statue and level; you wouldn't know where your blessings would come from.

7. Try out something new. If you've dwelt on the old thing that aren't working, it's time to explore new things to become better.

8. Forgive those who have wronged you. Grudges and unforgiven spirit are the chairmen of downfall and stagnation.

9. Get a good mentor, Matron or patron in your field of practice. What they see lying down are what you can't see climbing up. They are the ladder you'll have to climb to reach the top.

10. Do not crave for what you can't afford. Be contented with what you have. Lack of contentment has sent many to their early grave.

11. Avoid procrastination. People who procrastinate have ended up sad with grey hairs, watching their younger ones achieve what they kept dreaming of.

12. One step at a time. Great people didn't make it all in one day. They embraced process and took it gradually. Grow in process with progressive results.

13. Do not accept let-down. If people think you can't make it, or you'll end poor; that's not a determinant factor to keep you small. It all lies in your heart, your faith and capacity building. If your Spirit says yes, then it is a big YES.

14. Sow seed. Do not be stingy and hard-hardened with the little or the big you have. All you have aren't for you alone. If you must progress, allow others be blessed by you.

15. Avoid gossip. This one is a reality people do not know. Too much gossip or too many idle talks leave you empty, as virtues leave your mind and soul.

16. Do not plan evil with another to do bad to others. With what measures you extend to people is exactly what would return to you.

17. Study indeed. No matter your level in your career or profession, know that you must study to grow bigger.

18. Too many confessions yield to nothing. Often times, people preach about their new year RESOLUTION but end up doing nothing about it. Instead, write down your measurable and achievable goals; and not some loads of unachievable new year resolution.

19. Honour your parents, older folks and those who are your superior, no matter who you are. Doing this is a seed that will keep you long and protected by God Himself.

20. Do not despise the place of the altars. Pray and yield to the Holy Spirit's leading, because without God Almighty you can do nothing.

A MUST READ...

Dear Parents and Guardian,

As school resumes, ensure you do these important things for your children. Do not neglect doing them; they will help them perform better this academic session.

1. Pray for your children: Take time to pray for them. Prayers work wonders to strengthen, direct, prepare, protect and equip people towards a new journey or another phase of life; and your children's resumption is not an exception.

Before they go to school, as a father, mother, sibling or guardian, lay your hands on them and bless them. It will cover them from evil weapons, failure, disappointment and catastrophes.

2. Counsel and talk to them: Inasmuch as you think your child or children do not take counsel or take instructions, do not stop talking to them; you wouldn't know when a certain counsel would dawn on them, and hit them to heed.

Do not conclude that it'll be a waste of time. Simply prepare yourself and speak to them from the heart, with the Word of God (the Bible), and allow the Holy Spirit do the remaining job. With this, you'll be saving them from certain problems that await schools kids in school.

3. Encourage your children and speak life into them: The path and process of schooling can be discouraging and overwhelming to children. Sometimes, they do not feel like going to school especially on first day of resumption - as school resumes, they feel weak and tired to go. But, your encouragement will definitely empower them.

Reemphasize to them why they should go to school, and use yourself as a good example, sighting how well you've done going to school and being successful at last (if you actually did). Remind them what they've said the wanted to become in future, and sight other examples of their favorite great people or role models who have achieve it.

They will be grateful you did and, it would brighten their day and life forever.

4. Prophesy over your children: Prophecy does a lot when it comes from a parent or guardian to their wards. The words you'll be speaking over their lives feels different. It reawakens them and gives them energy "to become"

This might come during prayers. But, it is better when you speak over them prophetically whether or not you're praying with them. And, you do not need to be a prophet before you do this.

Reaffirm boldly what you want for them this academic session, speak light, life, greatness, boldness, capacity, love, protection, and God favour over them!!

And, you'll see wonders happen in their life, especially if you do it daily before they set out for school.

5. Get their school needs ready, no matter the extent to which you do so. Inasmuch as it's the first day of resumption, their needs should be provided, as other children would as well go to school with theirs. If you cannot afford to get all their needs all at once, ensure you get part of them, so that they do not appear odd when others flaunt theirs.

It does a lot to uplift their soul and set them happy for the rest of the day!!

It's not easy to train and nurture these children. Our pray from Edufest Nigeria is that, God Almighty will provide for all parents and guardian and grant them the wisdom to nurture their children effectively in Jesus Christ's name; Amen🙏

The West Africa Container Terminal (WACT), located at Onne, in partnership with the Center for Creative Development Strategies (CCDS) located in Port Harcourt - both Organizations in Rivers State Nigeria embark on a chain PAD A GIRL PROJECT in the State.

This kindness being extended to Schools by WACT, with CCDS keeps mesmerizing trainees, leaving them with the consciousness of love and hugs.

They are set to train over 1,000 school students (including boys and girls) on the Eco-friendly Sanitary Pads production before the end of 2024.

The Pad A girl pad Project that took place on Tuesday 3rd December 2024 hosted over 100 participants, including Students (male and female) and teachers.

This is a journey to Change the MENSTRUAL HYGIENE narrative with lasting impacts, as boys and men inclusion is not the order of the day, as pioneered by the Centre for Creative Development Strategies (CCDS); one of the leading NGOs in the Niger Delta region and in Rivers State in particular.

The NGO has empowered few young men who they call HE-FOR-SHE ADVOCATES, exposing them to the care and concerns associated with Menstrual Justice Advocacy, where men are included to support the girl-child and women, especially Menstruators.

This Advocacy movement and journey is now the new normal, to help make the world a better place, and to also protect the health of women and to save the environment.
