WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This program is designed for those who intend to pursue a professional career in Solar PV design and installation such as solar installers, contractors, project managers, engineers, electricians, quality inspectors, technical support crew and customer service professionals in the solar energy industry. The program also covers core business concepts such as marketing, sales, bookkeeping, finance, and general management that are critical for first time entrepreneurs looking to start up a business in the renewable energy space.

The course is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge on Solar PV systems necessary to meet the needs of the emerging Nigerian solar industry. Master Trainer Sean White’s hands-on program utilizes the NABCEP model, known as the “gold-standard” for PV Technical sales certifications.

The workshop delivers a unique experience through comprehensive class discussions actual installations, testing, commissioning, performance monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting of solar PV systems. The course will qualify students for 18 hours worth of credit towards the PV Installation Professional Exam and will qualify them for the Entry Level Exam. We will also give the students the White House Solar Certification Exam at the end of the course. This course does not give the students all of the credit for the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Exam, that requires another weeks training. All of this information is on the NABCEP website; however at this time, students are unable to take the NABCEP exams outside of North America. Some students will use that as a reason to travel to the US to take the exam.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

Upon completion of the course participants will

• Be equipped with the skills and competencies necessary to effectively and successfully manage solar projects and businesses.
• Clearly understand the basic principles of renewable energy and their relevance in the power sector in Nigeria.
• Understand the Solar Module framework and know how it applies.
• Equip you with a solar training certificate of completion.
• Teach you the fundamentals of running a small business. This course will help you develop a solid foundation for growing your business into a profitable venture.

Basic electricity principles, system design, installation, materials procurement standards, maintenance, business empowerment and all that is desired to be learnt are practically covered.

As the market grows for Photovoltaics, individuals completing this training could find that their employment opportunities are enhanced by starting the job with an understanding of the basic terms and operational aspects of a PV system. Individuals interested in starting their own businesses will not only gain valuable knowledge and skills to enable them launch their ventures, but will also receive support and mentorship from Dovaheights staff to guide them through the startup process.

Successful completion of this workshop will qualify students to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam and will provide 18 Advanced hours towards the NABCEP PV Installation Professional Exam.

Course Delivery:

This course provides in a variety of activities designed engage participants through interactive, collaborative learning experiences including hands-on labs, problem-solving exercises, interactive quizzes, group and self-study assignments. Classroom instruction will consist of interactive lectures, class discussions, exercises, table-top experiments, PowerPoint presentations, Internet illustrations, and videos.

Evaluation:

The student’s successful completion will be determined by:
1. Participation and completion of classroom and supplemental problem-solving activities
2. Participation in electronic and written quizzes and exercises
3. Overall Attendance for 40 contact hours

Certificate of Completion:

At the conclusion of the last day of the class, participants will be given an exam that will make them White House Solar Certified. Certificates are issued electronically.

Dr. SEAN WHITE:

Sean is an IREC Certified Master Trainer for PV installation, and his company, Sean White Solar, is an IREC Accredited Training Provider. In addition, he is a NABCEP certified solar PV installation professional and a NABCEP PV entry level program provider. In fact, Sean was on the NABCEP PV Installer Exam Committee and helped author the NABCEP PV Installer Task Analysis. He is a licensed electrician and a licensed solar contractor in California. He also is on the energy storage task group of the Solar ABCs PV industry stakeholder group. A community college PV professor since 2008, Sean has conducted solar energy courses that combine classroom education and hands-on workshops internationally for a wide variety of clients. He teaches classes on a regular basis for Diablo Valley College (CA), MERALCO (the main utility in the Philippines), Solar Universe (CA), Kaplan across the USA, and students in Canada, China, South Africa, Mongolia, South Africa and Qatar.

ROSEMARY AIMANKHU:

Rosemary is an experienced Training and Capability building professional, who derives great personal satisfaction from helping groups and individuals reach their full potential through interventions from training and development. Her sessions are always practical, participative, fun and easy to transfer into the “real life” workplace.
She has partnered with various organizations including the Enterprise Development Centre, (a part of the Pan African University) as facilitator for SME programs with follow up sessions on business management. She has also facilitated trainings on Sales, Marketing, Team building and Personal development programs at different levels across Nigeria, which have given her exposure to businesses and the various challenges they face.
Rosemary has a good deal of experience in consultancy focusing on SME and Large organizations.
