Benue State Government Announces New Education Policy for Public and Private Schools

Summary:
The Benue State Ministry of Education has introduced new policies effective from the 2025/2026 academic year to improve educational practices. These include:

1. Abolition of customized textbooks/exercise books – schools must return to using standard books that can be passed down to younger pupils.


2. Ban on compulsory extended lessons after school hours – unless explicitly approved by parents.


3. Abolition of compulsory graduation ceremonies – especially for kindergarten, nursery, and basic schools.

A meeting with school proprietors, PTA, and education stakeholders is scheduled for Tuesday, 26th August 2025 to discuss implementation.
