Politics / BUHARI: “chatham House Speech Laughable” by goodgovernancei: 1:11pm On Mar 01, 2015
A Doctor of economics and Director-General of Good Governance Initiative GGI, Dr, Sunny Osa has punctured speeches made by the All Progressives Congress APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House London describing it as laughable.

The leader of GGI, a socio-political and economic watchers group in a statement weekend in Lagos said even though it was clear that the retired general was reluctantly reading a script prepared for him by those who see him as a tool to actualize their selfish political goal, the delivery was fraught with a deluge of irregularities and fallacious promises that are unrealizable. The group wondered why the APC Presidential candidate and his stalwarts had to travel all the way down to London for the purpose when the Nigerian’s equivalence of Chatham House, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs on Victoria Island Lagos lay fallow.

Dr. Osa specifically, noted that apart from the fact that the retired general was bereft of ideas pertaining to the nation’s macro-economic indices and cold not therefore, give categorical answers to salient economic questions to convince his audience including Nigerians present at the occasion as to how he would turn around the fortunes of the country; he lost control of himself when he was asked a about his hard stand on the introduction of Sharia law for the whole country if he was voted in. According to him, ”Why Chatham House to deliver his speech and not NIIA if they are not deceitful? This is a man who could hardly stand for more than five minutes at every political rally to deliver his speech but stood for over 30 minutes in Chatham House chattering away fallacious promises. If for anything, I view Buhari and his cohorts’ appearance in Chatham House as a tragic epic movie, deceitful and a move calculated at currying sympathy where there is none. If you watch the footage, you would have noticed that he was reluctantly reading a script prepared for him by those who want to use him to actualize their selfish political agenda. What was the electoral value of the Chatham speech, who do they wish to impress? During his speech, Buhari could not hide his ill -feelings for those he has perceived as enemies who he aims to vent his wrath on should he secure his presidential ambition. Nigerians should ask themselves why he is contesting for the fourth time having been rejected trice by the same Nigerians. Listen to his uncoordinated and laughable speeches and you would realize that they hold no water.”

The GGI helmsman therefore, urged Nigerians both within and in Diaspora to be vigilant, discerning and disregard the smokescreen appearance of the general and his agents of economic destabilization and vote them out during the forthcoming March 28, general elections. According to him, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan deserves all the supports needed to actualize his transformation agenda for the country.

Politics / Buhari Enemy Of Democracy---gani Adams by goodgovernancei: 7:42pm On Feb 28, 2015
National coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress OPC, Otunba Gani Adams weekend in Lagos took a swipe at the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Mohammadu Buhari (retd) describing him as enemy of democracy.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos Otunba Adams said the APC standard bearer has never been a lover of democracy having toppled a democratically elected government in 1983 and vehemently opposed the National Conference convergence, a platform to discuss the socio-political and economic future of the country.
Going down memory lane, he said if the retired general had not trampled the nascent democracy under his jackboot, democracy would have thriven well today.
According to him, “General Buhari is not the right leader Nigerians should vote for at this time because he never believed in the national conference ab initio and all the tenets of democracy.”
The OPC leader therefore, gave reasons why Nigerians across board should vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming Presidential election citing the convergence of the national conference as a veritable pointer for his argument.
He said President Goodluck Jonathan deserves the support of all Nigerians for organizing the national conference that was devoid of executive control which allowed deliberation on a wide range of issues unlike the previous conferences that were organized during the regimes of Generals Sanni Abacha and Olusegun Obasanjo. Otunba.
Adams says President Goodluck Jonathan is a man of honour and integrity who he believes will implement all the recommendations of the conference. “President Goodluck Jonathan is a man of integrity who will never lie to Nigerians. He had said it in several fora that he will implement all the recommendations of the national conference which we believe is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria in a long while and that’s why the Oodua People’s Congress is throwing all its full weight behind his second term ambition.” Continuing Adams said, “Yoruba leaders met and agreed that we will only support the full implementation of the national conference and he has agreed to that, meaning, we think alike”.
Another reason given by the OPC leader for his support for President Goodlck Jonathan is what he describes as his tolerant nature who despite heaps of abuses and criticisms thrown at him would not respond. This, Adams believes makes him a better democrat unlike his predecessors and his fellow contestant in the All Progressives Congress APC, General Muhammadu Buhari who was recently described by Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka as the second most brutal head of State in Nigeria after General Sanni Abacha.
Speaking further Otunba Adams said, fundamental human rights of Nigerians especially, freedom of speech and freedom of the Press has been mostly guaranteed under the Present administration. “Nigerians have never had it so good especially, the activists and members of the media. He signed the freedom of information bill into law; a gesture which is unprecedented in the history of the Country”.
Politics / Mbu: A Thorough Bred Police Officer – Adams Oshiomhole. by goodgovernancei: 11:47pm On Feb 27, 2015
For those who may be plotting the exit of the New Assistant Inspector General of police in charge of zone 6, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, especially his core critics, the major opposition Party, APC who had persistently maintained that he should be transferred from their area, this may not be the best of information.
Mbu , was carefully selected among a list of the AIGs by the police high command to head for Lagos to do what they term a special and peculiar assignment, says dependable police source. It is reasoned that it is only a policeman of Mbu,s mold that can work successfully in a peculiar environment like Lagos at this tensed political period.
Source at the force headquarters in Abuja informed that leadership’s conviction about Mbu for the Lagos and Ogun job is hinged on his ability to work professionally and achieve result under the most challenging environment not minding whose ox is gored
Force public Relations officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, acting commissioner of police said, the call for the redeployment of AIG Mbu is irrelevant saying ”We do not respond to such call. AIG Mbu is a police officer, a senior officer for that matter. Postings and re- deployment of police officers is the sole prerogative of police high authorities and not calls from individuals or groups”
“Mbu,s track records have set him apart as an officer who knows his onions and is able to deliver professional within the ambit of law coupled with his capability to pull the proverbial chestnut out of the fire.” Says our source
Mbu is said to have supervised the gubernatorial Elections in Edo state that brought Adams Oshiomole an APC governor to power for the second term, during which he received an overwhelming commendation from the ex foremost labour leader describing him as a strict thorough and fair policeman. Even in the face of the intimidating influence of the current PDP BOT chairman, Chief Tony Anenih who is also known to be a retired policeman, Mbu was said to have stood his grounds , insisting on fairness and equity for all . “It could only take an independent- minded policeman to do his job without fear or intimidation in such circumstance “ the source said..
While in Oyo which is equally an APC state where he served as commissioner of police, the state house of assembly was said to have held a special valedictory session for him as mark of his exemplary performance when he was transferred.
Continuing the source who is one of the oldest DIGs also informed that in Rivers where he had bad press as a result of the face- off between him and governor Rotimi Amaechi, for reasons not unconnected with his characteristic independent mindedness ,it is on record that Mbu had more commendations from various communities in Rivers than all other commissioners of Police who had served in the state.
Continuing the source informed that a week before he was posted to Lagos , the APC in Rivers state got a wind of the impending general postings in the Police and quickly wrote a letter to the Police Service Commission PSC asking that they do not want Mbu in Zone 6 comprising Rivers and Akwa Ibom. “ Having served as CP in Rivers with the gale of dust his tenure raised, the leadership was never contemplating posting Mbu to anywhere around the south south region” said the source
“To anyone conversant with movement of police during elections it is an open knowledge that policemen are posted to fresh areas where they have not served before and Mbu’s posting falls within this extant practice .” said source.
Concluding he said the police would not reverse itself or change the practice because of unsubstantiated public outcry against one officer especially when it knows that it is politically motivated. “Reversing itself on statutory practice is tantamount to self defeat” he said.
Politics / “AIG Mbu’s Critics Rabble Rousers” by goodgovernancei: 11:15pm On Feb 27, 2015
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone II Onikan Lagos which comprises Lagos and Ogun States AIG Mbu Joseph Mbu has been told to ignore all the distractions and persistent criticism by Politicians ahead of the forth coming general elections and security issues and concentrated on his job. This call became necessary following allegation making the rounds that the senior Police officer has given his officers and men a matching order to kill 20 persons should a Policeman be shot at by political thugs in the line of duty during the forthcoming elections. A Lagos based group operating under the aegis of Good Governance Initiative GGI in a statement said those peddling the uncharitable rumour against the respected Police boss are nothing less than rabble rousers; stressing that the group was present at the interaction which held in Ogun state where AIG Mbu met with his men and officers. Director-General of the association, Mr. Buchi Oparaugo who played the footage of the meeting before newsmen in Lagos yesterday likened the senior Police officer to the proverbial dog which has to be given a bad name in order to hang it. He quoted the AIG as saying, “I am here to make sure that everywhere is calm and to work within the ambit of law and order to make sure everything goes peacefully. This is my first official visit and I am here on Police posting and to contribute my quota to the peaceful conduct of the elections. Our action as security officers will go a long way to determining the outcome of the elections. We must not be partial. As far as the law is concerned, we are not going to respect anybody; whoever you are when you cone to the polling booth you vote and leave because we are not going to allow anybody campaign during the elections even if he is the CEO of the state. If it is a Police Constable that is around at the polling booth, he will stop the person. Anybody that is found with arms and ammunition will be arrested and anyone that they cannot arrest, we will collect his arms by force. And during the elections, no politician or their followers should shoot at any of my Policemen; if they shoot at my Policemen, they should shoot back in self defense.
