The Red Lobster restaurant chain today announces its exit from Chapter 11 restructuring and the completion of its acquisition by RL Investor Holdings LLC.

"Red Lobster is now a stronger, more resilient company, and today is the start of a new chapter in our history," said Damola Adamolekun, CEO of Red Lobster. "From the opening of our first restaurant in 1968, Red Lobster has focused on serving diners high-quality seafood at affordable prices. I've been a Red Lobster fan since my first dining experience as a 9-year-old at our Springfield, Ill, restaurant – and as I've prepared to step into the role of CEO, I've met hundreds of diners across the country who, just like me, are as passionate about Red Lobster now as they were on their first visit."

Mr. Adamolekun continues, "As part of our new ownership structure, we have backers who have a history of making successful investments in restaurants. Our comprehensive and long-term investment plan for Red Lobster includes a commitment of more than $60 million in new funding which will help us to deliver improvements across every aspect of our company. RL Investor Holdings LLC has completed its acquisition of the Red Lobster restaurant chain. As a result of the acquisition, Red Lobster has exited its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. RL Investor Holdings LLC is an entity created by funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group LLC ("Fortress", alongside co-investors TCW Private Credit and Blue Torch.

From today, Red Lobster is an independent, privately held company with 545 restaurant locations across 44 U.S. states and four Canadian Provinces.

A recent attack on the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State occurred on Monday, left two police operatives dead.

The unidentified assailants launched a surprise attack on the station in the early hours, firing shots into the air before forcing their way into the premises.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the gunmen caught the police officers off guard, resulting in fatalities.

The attackers also used improvised explosive devices to set parts of the premises ablaze, causing significant damage.

One of the eyewitnesses said, “The masked hoodlums shot severally into the air as they marched towards the gate of the police premises. It happened early this morning and it was the gunshots that woke the neighbourhood and sent panic into the area.

“They shot and injured some police officers as they forcefully entered the premises. The incident happened within a short space of time, they burnt some parts of the building and were about to cause more mayhem before the attack was repelled in an exchange of gunfire by the officers on duty, after which the hoodlums escaped back into their hideouts.”

The Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the police have launched a manhunt on the fleeing assailants.

Ikenga said, “The Joint Security Forces comprising of the Police, Army, Navy, Civil defence and other security agencies recovered five unexploded improvised explosives and are on the trail of the arsonists and armed secessionist group members, who in the early hours of today 16/9/2024 attacked the Umunze Police Station.

“The suspected armed proscribe group invaded the police facility with improvised explosives, shooting sporadically and fire caught part of the station.

“Unfortunately, two of the police operatives on duty during the gun battle in a bid to resist the assailants from causing more havoc paid the supreme price. Their bodies have been recovered and taken to the morgue.”

The motive behind the attack is currently unknown, but an investigation is likely to be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Fagbohun traced the history of owners of Lagos to the Awori clan through one Chief Olofin Ogunire, which he said is evident in the highest number of communities in Lagos populated by the Aworis.

He added that though history indicated that the Binis, in collaboration with Europeans, invaded and conquered Lagos, it does not make the Bini people owners of Lagos. Through resilience, Fagbohun said Lagos was taken back by its original owners.

“Unravelling the history of Lagos can contribute to Lagos’ future as a megacity. Lagos is one of the ancient Yoruba kingdoms and older than most Yoruba towns. This symposium is to create reminders that go beyond colonial reports. It will also strengthen collaboration between academic research and community,” he said.
