The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 57-year-old man identified as Tijjani Yahaya, for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old brother, Aminu Mohammad, to death.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, in Kano on Sunday. He said that the incident occurred at Annandin Islamic School, Kofar Ruwa, Dala local government area of Kano state on July 19, at about 9:00 p.m.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that Yahaya and the victim had a misunderstanding and, in the process, Yahaya stabbed him on his chest with a sharp knife.

“The suspect was arrested and the knife was recovered,” the PPRO stated. Haruna said the victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where he died while receiving treatment.

According to Media eports, the mystery surrounding the missing ear of a baby at the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been linked to carnivorous rats.

A police report released on Sunday, cleared the hospital, its management and workers from blame over the 2015 incident which left the deceased baby’s family thinking it was for a ritual purpose.



“This deals with a case of an alleged mutilation of a newborn baby girl’s ear reported to the Inspector-General of Police by Mr Solomon Igwe against Dr. Oliver Umeh, the owner, and staff of the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha.

“On July 30, 2015, around 7.30am, Solomon Igwe, upon unwrapping the corpse, discovered that the right ear of the baby had been severed from the body.

“He reported to the Central Police Station, Onitsha, where he accused Dr Oliver Umeh as being responsible for the missing ear.

“While the investigation was ongoing, Dr Oliver Nnamdi felt dissatisfied with the police arrest and detention , and from one level of investigation to another as he was neither at the hospital during the admission/treatment and the death of the said baby hence, he petitioned the Inspector-General of Police.

“The said petition was subsequently forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Homicide Section, for harmonisation and consolidation,” the police report read in part.

It added “While investigation was ongoing, the parents made a demand for the sum of N10m.

According to punch News, Teachers and pupils have deserted primary and secondary schools in Alabata villages in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State following attacks by suspected herdsmen.

The PUNCH gathered that the schools had been deserted since the attacks reportedly carried out by herdsmen on some of the villages.

Herdsmen had invaded Seriki village in Alabata and hacked a 76-year village head, Chief Akanmu Laisi, to death about a month ago.

Herdsmen also carried out an attack on Adao village in Alabama and stabbed a 49-year-old farmer, Rafiu Showemimo, to death a week ago.

Following the attacks by herdsmen, all the schools in the schools have been deserted by pupils, teachers and headmasters to avoid being victims attacked.

Ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled to hold in Bayelsa State on November 16, a video of Bayelsa State lawmaker, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha in physical fight with the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state, Hon. Jothan Amos has surfaced.

The fight between the state’s APC Chairman and Dauyegha, a known political ally of the immediate past Minister of State for Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri, occurred just after the lawmaker representing Ekeremor Constituency II in the Bayelsa state House of Assembly tore a paper he was given to sign.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the fight was centered on the mode of party gubernatorial primary. While Lokpobiri is pushing for an indirect primary, the party chairman seems to have adopted the direct primary option. Hon Dauyegha was heard saying in the viral video “What kind of chairman are you? You are a stupid chairman. I’ll deal with you.”

In a statement after the video went viral, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha said he only defended himself but never assaulted the party Chairman. According to him, Hon. Amos wanted him to sign a document without knowing its content.

He said “The chairman called me a night before the incident that he wanted to see me, I told him was in Port Harcourt but it was late, so he said since I was travelling tomorrow we’ll meet at the airport before departing for Abuja.”

“On reaching the airport, the party chairman, Jothan Amos told me to come into his car with military men and was coercing and pacifying me into signing a document and I openly refused. He also said ever since he made me minority leader I have been avoiding him. This is really sad and it’s a wrong precedence to begin the elections.

“I wasn’t even at the stakeholders meeting but I heard there wasn’t any tangible agreement, so why bring a document to force me to sign? That was why I jumped out of his car and pushed him to take defense,” he said.

“I tore the paper because while we were struggling in the car my pen drew a line, so I don’t want to be mentioned to have signed the document.

“It should be noted here that if a mode of election is to be chosen, it should be done the proper way with every member of the party agreeing and not coercing members secretly, which the party chairman has been doing since after the stake holders meeting.

“The party chairman has been going about forcing members of the party with military men to sign documents on the mode of the elections, which has raised an uproar and serious concern to major stakeholders.

“Since the outcome of the meeting was in stalemate, he would have allowed the major stakeholders meet and resolve issue before signing of documents” he said.

The House of Representatives has approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to appoint 15 Special Advisers in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.



The approval followed a unanimous adoption of a motion by Rep. Garba Ado (APC-Kano) at plenary in Abuja on Thursday.

The approval is in line with the provisions of Section 151 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

The provision states that the president has the power to appoint any person as a Special Adviser to assist him in the performance of his functions.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president, in a message to the house on July 9, requested for approval to appoint 15 Special Advisers.

The house stated that the Constitution empowered the National Assembly to prescribe by law or resolution the number of such advisers and their remuneration and allowances.

The house would transmit the approval to the Senate for concurrence.

A pregnant woman was on Tuesday burnt to death in a ghastly motor accident which occurred along Omi Adio, Ibadan, axis of the Ibadan- Abeokuta expressway, leaving several others with varying decree of burn injuries.

About eight people were said to have sustained severe injuries when they were trapped in the liteace commercial bus coming from Apata to Omi Adio, along the one-lane expressway.

The ill-fated commercial bus, according to eyewitness account developed mechanical problem when its shaft pulled off, causing the driver to lose control and ran into a ditch after somersaulting several times.

An 18-year-old woman was punched unconscious because she rejected advances from men who followed her and her friend when they were on a night out.

Gabrielle Walsh and her friend were out in central Manchester on a Saturday night when they were approached by three men.

No fewer than 2,000 residents have been rendered homeless following the destruction of over 300 houses by flood in Okpoko community, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state.

The Nation gathered most residents have fled their homes while others had their belongings buried in the sand.

Some government institutions including a secondary school and Okpoko Secretariat were also reportedly affected by the flood.

A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old soldier, Samuel Hassan to four years in prison for stealing N93000 from neighbour’s account.

Magistrates Roseline Baraje, convicted Hassan after he pleaded guilty to breach of trust, cheating, theft and misappropriation.

Baraje, however gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N40,000.

She also ordered the convict to pay N93,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Baraje said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal act.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Monday Dabit , told the court that the case was reported on July 7 at the ‘A’ Division Police Station by Mrs Helen Geoffry of Angwan Mission Tundunwada, Jos who is the complainant.

Rescuers had trouble communicating with the boy, who fell nearly 30 feet. According to Evansville Fire Department, the narrow entrance to the well – about 16 inches in diameter – also made it difficult for firefighters to get to the child. After several other ideas failed, emergency crews decided to lower a swing seat to the boy. He was told to straddle the seat while crews pulled him to safety. The 5-year-old was upset but unhurt except for scrapes and bruises, according to Evansville Fire Department Chief Administrative Officer Mike Larson.
