Well, in my own case, Dangote simply layed us off while still on probation without any known reason till date. Some actually spent 7 months on probation instead of 6 months stated in the offer letter, the remaining half spent 5 months before the termination of appointments. About 800 of us employed as infamous Truck Officers. We're still in court of arbitration to get our benefits because he didn't give us our due benefits throughout the short period that we worked with him. The salary was nothing to write home about, we were just hoping that things would improve after the confirmation of our appointments as permanent staff. The job was equally stressful in a poor working conditions. Even to discharge your duty, you had to spend one third of your meager salary (photocopies of work-related documents, constantly recharging your lines to call six drivers several times a day, everyday, data subscription for the job, unending transport cost within the factory, etc)
If I'm invited for the same job today, I will gladly pass. Because, people always asked me if something was wrong with me at the time due to too much stress.

Yeah. Got hired into a multinational and worked a few years before I was sacked. I was young and naïve, worked with 'multinational pride', to the extent of calling my direct boss by his first name ( forgetting we're all Nigerians working in Nigeria). The guy (my manager) benched me with seat belt, giving my colleagues tasks to execute and leaving me out. When Nigeria slided into recession, viola!!! the guy recommended me and mostly other guys from my tribe to be sacked(people from my tribe are seen as threats because of our smartness, no pride intended),we were all sacked. Then I earned about 450k.

Worked in a couple of other companies, moving from one to another as offers kept getting better and to the glory of God, I have at sight a salary of 7 figures every month.

Lesson learnt: the first attribute you need to progress after attitude, is loyalty. REM you're not indispensable, before you someone was doing it and after you, someone will do it!

Why Diversion of Coastal Highway to East-West Road Is A Masterstroke — And South-South Is Not Deceived

Since the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, announced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to divert the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway through the existing East-West road from Ondo to Edo, critics have shouted "South-South deceived."

As someone who stands with the Federal Government on this project, let me explain why this diversion is not betrayal, but engineering wisdom.

1. THE SWAMP WOULD HAVE SWALLOWED TRILLIONS

The original coastal route from Ogun to Ondo is not land. It is ocean swamp. Umahi disclosed they encountered pits 10 to 20 metres deep — that is 30 feet of water and mud. You pour sharp sand today, the Atlantic carries it tomorrow. To build a 6-lane concrete highway on that terrain would cost N30 billion per kilometre and still collapse.

Mr. President's instruction — "Divert, do not do any new alignments. Pass the coastal highway through the existing East-West road" — saved Nigeria from waste.

2. EAST-WEST ROAD ITSELF NEEDED RESCUE

Every Nigerian knows East-West road — Ughelli, Patani, Ahoada, Bayelsa — is a death trap every rainy season. It was built 40 years ago before climate change. The President's new plan is to raise the entire road by 2 metres above flood level, with reinforced concrete, solar lights and proper drainage.

This is two projects in one: South-South gets a flood-proof, concrete highway, and the coastal highway still moves forward.

3. THE PURPOSE IS STILL SERVED

The initial purpose of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was never to count how many coastal villages you pass. It was to:
a) Connect Lagos Deep Sea Port to the South-South and South-East
b) Reduce travel time from Lagos to Calabar from 12 hours to 5 hours
c) Open up trade for 30 million Nigerians
d) Create toll revenue for government

All four purposes are still achieved. The 45km Benin Bypass will even save drivers from Benin City traffic. A businessman moving goods from Eko Atlantic or Lekki Port to Calabar will still use this same road.

4. CALABAR IS STILL THE DESTINATION

The road has not stopped. Section 5 — 82km in Akwa Ibom — is under construction. The 67km Sections 4A and 4B in Ogun/Ondo are being filled. The diversion is only 104km from Ondo to Edo, after which the alignment continues to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and terminates in Calabar, Cross River. South-South governors including Sheriff Oborevwori have commended the decision.

CONCLUSION

Those saying South-South was deceived are playing politics. The South-South was not deceived — the South-South was saved from having two abandoned roads. Today we will have one strong, flood-proof, concrete highway that still goes from Lagos to Calabar.

Tinubu is not building Lagos only. He is building Nigeria with engineering sense.

South-South is still connected. The road still reaches Calabar.

We should not tolerate actions like this. Disliking the president is not enough reason to endorse or encourage political hostility. We cannot, on the one hand, complain about the hostile environment in which opposition parties are forced to campaign and, on the other hand, applaud the very actions that contribute to such an atmosphere.

This is unacceptable. Our politics should never degenerate to this level. We must learn to conduct ourselves with civility and restraint, even when we disagree. The proper place to express our anger and dissatisfaction with a government is at the polls, not through hostility, intimidation, or the promotion of hatred.

We should all have the best interests of the country at heart. In the long run, a more civil and tolerant political culture will serve us all better, regardless of which party or candidate we support.

The Nigerian army is at the weakest position it has ever been since independence. They can't take the fight to the enemy, their moral is very low, their renumeration is nothing to write home about, their motivation to fight and die for the country is non existent.
