He wants to share the risk burden of his refinery amongst Nigerians. He foresees what will befall him when there's a change of government.

If government does not favour him tomorrow, policies will be made that will hit his monopoly very hard.

Proliferation of other refineries, return of subsidy, etc are possible changes that will break the monopoly of Dangote refinery.

Two other aggressive refineries are coming on board: Azikel and BUA.

I was in a entrepreneur programme in lagos law school in 2017 and Aliko Dangote was a guest speaker. He told us categorically to avoid Transportation business. He said that's the only business that gives him headache with huge loss incurred every single day.

Except you are going to be the driver, stay away.

Mine didn't fail, I have been running it for over 12 years now but in the 2nd year the business almost closed down as the property owners sent me parking after I had an unwritten agreement to repair the office and that I will be given about 6 to 9 months before I will pay new Rent.

Exactly 1 month after the repairs I was asked to leave. I had to move the business to a room in my house and I lost 95% of my customers. It was a long battle as I became the only staff of the business for at least 3 straight years. I did alot of moving around to offer our services to customers but finally today we have an office, 2 staff and occasional contract staff.
When I started in 2014 ,the business was worth less than 100k but today it is worth about 6 million naira. Not a big figure business but this height of this success is big for me, the son of a taxi driver who had no financial support than my wife whom we both came from very poor families. MY WIFE IS MY PILLAR after GOD

The business will be worth well over 12million within the next 3 years as the new office space is adding tremendous value to the business as it has opened opportunities for more revenue streams.

The biggest thing that made my business not to fail is PATIENT and RUGGEDNESS with faith in God and my wife's support.

It is a music business. We offer Music training, Studio production, Sound Equipment Rental and New addition Sales of Music Instruments and materials. Thanks to God. I hope someone is encouraged by my story.

Not really. Except you have strong connections to get government print jobs or companies that print regularly. Printing has a lot of overhead.

Considering the challenging business environment in Nigeria, look for businesses with very minimal overhead. Businesses where light or generator won't be required.

Selling poultry and fish feed
Selling eggs
Being a distributor for companies producing consumer goods if you have the money
Any business with little overhead.

The most important thing is to study, know and fully understand the business before you commit huge money into it. There are dues to be paid and you must pay them one way or another, before at a small level, or later when you've committed huge money into it.

Look for businesses with very minimal overhead
