Hello everyone! Please I want to ask some questions in respect to my passport application. I applied for the passport on Friday, chose 1st of September for capturing, but at the moment the status is still showing waiting for approval. I already read through the thread about similar cases and I understand I'll have to go there on the appointment date irrespective of the application status.

I am doing my service, and I travelled for the holiday. I chose the state where I am now as the processing center. The issue now is that the date for my monthly clearance is most likely to be 1st of September too, and that means I have to leave here by the exact end of the month in order to meet up.

The next time I'm likely to come back here is during the mid-term break; that should be around October or thereabout. What do I do please?

You are older than 18 years. Therefore, the National Population Commission will not issue you a birth certificate. Instead of a birth certificate, you will be given an attestation of birth. Note that this attestation of birth letter is completely equal to a birth certificate and carries the same legal weight both in Nigeria and when using it overseas. To get this attestation of birth letter from the NPC, you must first process and present a court affidavit attesting to your date of birth and other personal details, and the affidavit must have a declarant who will be either your father or an older male relative (brother or uncle).

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROCESSING A BIRTH ATTESTATION LETTER
Age declaration affidavit (from High Court). This affidavit must contain the details of both your place of birth and date of birth, the details of your parents and their place of origin, and your home address. Your passport photograph must be attached to the affidavit and the age declaration must also be duly stamped or endorsed by the Commissioner for Oaths.

National Identification Number (NIN).

2 recent passport photographs.

Non-refundable application fee (₦3,000).

Visit the National Population Commission located in the local government secretariat of the State where you reside. When you get to the NPC office, you will be given a form to fill in for your attestation of birth letter.

Thankfully, the National Population Commission (NPC) offers a convenient online portal to complete the process. Visit the NPC website (https://nationalpopulation.gov.ng/) (https://attestation.nationalpopulation.gov.ng/welcome) and navigate to the “Services” section and choose “Birth Attestation.” Click agree below the page and proceed to enter your email address in the provided space and make the online payment of ₦3,000 using the provided secure payment gateway. You’ll receive a confirmation and reference number via email.

Once payment is confirmed, proceed to fill out the online registration form. This includes applicant details, parent/guardian information, hospital/clinic details, and document uploads as mentioned previously.

Carefully review every information and upload for accuracy. Submit the application after confirmation.


Use the reference number to track your application status. Upon completion, you’ll be notified and can download your official birth attestation from your NPC account.

Please ensure a stable internet connection throughout the process. Also, use high-quality scans of documents for clear upload. Alongside, please keep a copy of the reference number for future reference. If you encounter any difficulties, consider reaching out to the NPC through their contact information available on the website.

I finally applied for the passport yesterday 22nd August, and it's currently showing waiting for approval. I chose 1st of September for the capturing, I'm hoping the status changes before then..thank you Ekitiman

My NIN that was showing on immigration portal is now showing this. Could this be technical issue or is the fault from my NIN?

You don't have to travel to get it,you can call a family member to head down to the local government of your town,the will issue to him or her on your behalf.

Please make sure the name arrangements are good. Same way it will be in your passport.

For your birth certificate,walk in to any NPC office in your current state of residence,and process that.

Does this means I'll have issues with the application? All my documents have the same names and arrangements, except my LGA certificate of origin.

LGA certificate of origin: Olaoluwa Nkem Jubril
Every other document(s): Nkem Jubril Olaoluwa

The only document having a different arrangement is the certificate of origin, and it's because I sent a family member to get it for me. Do I have to get a new one?

I don't really know, if you observe you'd notice I recently did mine. Visit the NPC office in your state, they'll know what to do.

Yes I have. Thank you for answering my questions. I did self-service modification after paying for police extract. It took hours of trying in futility before I was finally able to do it. I had to constantly remind them in mail until they approved it. I felt so relieved. Onto the next!

Requirements for Fresh Passport
Adult (18 years and above)

Letter of identification from local government/state of origin or residence.

Completed passport application form.

Marriage certificate (If you're a married Nigerian woman).

Birth Certificate (certificate issued by the
National Population Commission shall be required from applicants whose date of birth is with effect from Dec 1992) or Age Declaration attached with one passport-sized photograph and duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.

Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Based on the upward review of the fees for the Nigerian passport effective from 1st September 2024, 32-page Passport booklet with 5 year validity previously charged at thirty-five thousand naira (₦35,000) is now fifty thousand naira (₦50,000) only; while 64-page passport booklet with 10 year validity which was seventy thousand naira (N70,000) is now one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) only.

That's the only way you can confirm that they have finally validated your NIN-Number.

Everything is okay now. I can now see my details on NPC and NIS site. I am grateful to you and all who answered my questions. I will complete the attestation process this morning.

I got a message on the site that I will receive a notification when the modification is approved. Someone here said it takes five working days, I'll wait till Friday. I hope I get a mail before then.

How much and where?

I did it myself, although it was a difficult process that later became easy in the end. Click on selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng, register with and email and a password, log in and do the facial capture. This is where the stress comes in, because it takes multiple captures before it finally accepts a picture. Once you've successfully logged in you'll see the modification options and their prices. Click on the one you want to do (you should have soft copies of the required document in your phone already), pay using paystack (you'll use an ATM card), you'll get a reference number immediately after the payment is confirmed. You'll be redirected to your page to continue with the modification if the network is good. Good luck.

You need phone number modification. You did not provide phone number when you registered the NIN that is why.

Thank you for checking on me. I visited NIMC office in PH here, it was hell even though they were making it look like they're organized. I explained everything to them and the lady attending to people said I'll do self-service modification of phone number, that I would be okay after that. I went to the police to get extract, they requested for court affidavit, I pleaded that I wasn't changing number, I was only uploading. So they cut the stress, I did it and left. I paid using paystack and started trying from that afternoon but it wasn't going through, I continued till this afternoon when it finally went through. I completed the process and then sent a tracking number. I hope it works sooner than later. I'm grateful to you and others who have replied to my questions here.

Do you have any idea how long modification takes to effect?

Once you are able to see your ID-Card displayed inside the NIMC-App, you're good to go.

Hello! Good afternoon. I just got police extract for my phone number modification. I already paid via paystack but it says verification failed upon return to the NIMC selfservice page. Could it be network?

There you have the answer,it is not yet validated then. You can wait,or probably go to your registration centre to see if the work on it,but then don't give anybody shi shi 😁

I'll visit the centre today. Before now it shows No record found when I use the app, now it shows this.. that's after I sent them a mail. I thought it's been rectified.

Hello! I recently sent nimc a mail to validate my NIN, and they replied that I should proceed to use it after three days. Before now, it shows "no record found" when I try to use the app, but now this iz what it shows.
Now the problem is that I'm trying to verify on NIS app and also do something on NPC portal but it's not going through. The NPC portal says no record found, NIS portal says they can't get the NIMC server verify my Nin. What could be the issue?

You can try again at night, midnight to be precise,and from my experience please make sure the passport photograph meets their standard,you can check it out on their website even before you begin your registration,to avoid been stuck at any stage.

I just tried with someone's NIN and her details came up. Mine is showing what I sent up there. I recently validated my NIN, could it be that it's yet to be synchronized or what?

Visit the NIS website,input your NIN and start,make sure all informations are correct,to avoid having issues at any point in time. Download the needed the documents,and print them.

Get them together and head to their office on the day of capturing,meet the front desk officer,and tell him/her you came for capturing,the will direct you to the office your file will be taken and verified.

Please make sure to go with the originals (i.e as it was issued to by any of the government agency) birth certificate or Attestation,Local Government of origin,NIN slip,and the printed of your payment receipt, Acknowledgement slip and appointment Slip to avoid going twice to their office.

Exactly... it says unable to validate, nin not found, network error .. i thought i was the only one. I sent a DM to them on X and they replied this morning that they're having issues yet to be fixed. I'm thinking of going to the office, I hope something can be done offline. I already printed the temporary one.

I just checked online...they really need a police report for phone number modification. Haa! Even when I didn't put a number before.

First of all...


For you to be very sure that your NIN is working, download the NIMC-App and activate your NIN-ID on your mobile phone.
Then open your ID-Card on the App and view it there on the App..

If you see your ID-Card on the NIMC-App,, and it carries the passport-photo of your face and your details are correct, then your NIN is active.

Then you can proceed with the NPC Application.

I have the mobile app in my phone. Before now it shows "No record found" when I input my NIN, but now it logs in and shows "No primary number linked to your nin", that I should update it. I already sent a mail to them just like I did for the validation. I hope to get a reply from them.

Good morning. I find your posts and replies really helpful. There's this issue I'm facing right now. I applied for an attestation of birth from the NPC site, and I was given a temporal one pending when my NIN is validated. I followed your instructions from another post (to send direct mail and copy to the three bodies under NIMC), and it worked in three days. I sent on the 16th, it became active last night. Early this morning I'm trying to complete the process on NPC site but it's saying NIN not found. What could be the issue?
