ekitimanalways: You are older than 18 years. Therefore, the National Population Commission will not issue you a birth certificate. Instead of a birth certificate, you will be given an attestation of birth. Note that this attestation of birth letter is completely equal to a birth certificate and carries the same legal weight both in Nigeria and when using it overseas. To get this attestation of birth letter from the NPC, you must first process and present a court affidavit attesting to your date of birth and other personal details, and the affidavit must have a declarant who will be either your father or an older male relative (brother or uncle).
REQUIREMENTS FOR PROCESSING A BIRTH ATTESTATION LETTER Age declaration affidavit (from High Court). This affidavit must contain the details of both your place of birth and date of birth, the details of your parents and their place of origin, and your home address. Your passport photograph must be attached to the affidavit and the age declaration must also be duly stamped or endorsed by the Commissioner for Oaths.
National Identification Number (NIN).
2 recent passport photographs.
Non-refundable application fee (₦3,000).
Visit the National Population Commission located in the local government secretariat of the State where you reside. When you get to the NPC office, you will be given a form to fill in for your attestation of birth letter.
Thankfully, the National Population Commission (NPC) offers a convenient online portal to complete the process. Visit the NPC website (https://nationalpopulation.gov.ng/) (https://attestation.nationalpopulation.gov.ng/welcome) and navigate to the “Services” section and choose “Birth Attestation.” Click agree below the page and proceed to enter your email address in the provided space and make the online payment of ₦3,000 using the provided secure payment gateway. You’ll receive a confirmation and reference number via email.
Once payment is confirmed, proceed to fill out the online registration form. This includes applicant details, parent/guardian information, hospital/clinic details, and document uploads as mentioned previously.
Carefully review every information and upload for accuracy. Submit the application after confirmation.
Use the reference number to track your application status. Upon completion, you’ll be notified and can download your official birth attestation from your NPC account.
Please ensure a stable internet connection throughout the process. Also, use high-quality scans of documents for clear upload. Alongside, please keep a copy of the reference number for future reference. If you encounter any difficulties, consider reaching out to the NPC through their contact information available on the website. I just made payment and I'm trying to register now, it says NIN not found. Can I skip the verification of Nin? It says it's for users without nin though. Good afternoon, Ekitiman. |

Your detailed explanations make the whole process easy even before one begins. Thank you so much. I just checked my age declaration, it has all the details you listed (including the ones I saw on the site). I will apply by Monday, hopefully everything will go seamlessly. I will be updating you as it goes. Thank you so much, Ekitiman. 🙏 |

ekitimanalways: Yes, by clicking on the link you can start your passport application process yourself (I am a strong advocate of do-it-yourself) with a PC and/or smartphone. The online application process is simple and easy to use. https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/
If you were born from 1992, a birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission is required from you or age declaration if you were born before 1992.
An age declaration will be rejected on the day of appointment because it’s not attached with a passport photograph of the applicant and because it's not duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.
My neighbour who had his passport done in Osun State some months ago said that the Osogbo Passport Office’s organised and friendly.
No offence, but you didn't have to call me sir. I appreciate your good manners and respect but please you can simply call me Ekitiman. Thank you, Ekitiman. Initially I was thinking anyone can use age declaration or birth certificate (irrespective of age). That means I have to first begin application for a birth certificate. This takes me to another set of questions. From my end, using Google to search for things like this does not give real-life and actual amounts and information, so I'll be asking more questions from experienced people. Do I have to take anything to the NPC? How long and how much is the estimated time and amount to get it done? Thank you, Ekitiman. |

Based on the upward review of the fees for the Nigerian passport effective from 1st September 2024, 32-page Passport booklet with 5 year validity previously charged at thirty-five thousand naira (₦35,000) is now fifty thousand naira (₦50,000) only; while 64-page passport booklet with 10 year validity which was seventy thousand naira (N70,000) is now one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) only. I'm really grateful. This is a detailed explanation. By clicking on the link, can I begin the application myself with PC? Secondly, I have done age declaration, but the signatory (commissioner of oaths) is what I am not sure of. I'll check my documents by morning, but before then, what happens if there's no endorcement by the C of O? Lastly, I'm going to Osun. What do you think about the passport office in Osun? Thank you Sir |

Hello Good evening everyone. I am a fresh graduate making arrangements to serve somewhere in the West by October. I plan to apply for passport at the beginning of my service year, so that the waiting period for the passport will be reading concurrently with my service. I want to know which State in the West is best and quicker to deliver the passport, and the first steps to take in registering. I'm a newbie here and will appreciate advice and directions. Thank you in advance for helping me out. |

I recently graduated with a second class lower, and this urge to relocate is growing inside of me everyday. I know Nairaland to be an ocean of wisdom that's why I am seeking explanations here.
Basically, since I am starting from the scratch, I will appreciate a detailed clarifications. First of all, I intend to apply for a passport in a month time, I want to know which State (South and West) in Nigeria is best and quicker to deliver, and the time frame to get it. The plan is to apply for it at the beginning of my service year (NYSC), so that the waiting time runs concurrently with the service.
Secondly, since I have a degree in Statistics, I intend to do an MSc program in Data Science, Statistics, or Applied Statistics. Another thing, I already mentioned that the plan is to relocate via the study program, this means I'll appreciate countries with easy permanent residency.
I need advice to begin my journey on the right foot. Thank you. |
