I think its a matter of choice.
Some brides pay for their wears, some share d responsibility of paying for d wears while others don't pay a penny for their wears. U will decide which part to go with.

No, not really. There are pictures of weddings without the bridal train online. It all has to do with preference or "so that people will not talk". Whatever works best for you and your S.O.
