@ O.P Madcow said it, i think you should read the comment of madcow over and over again. You might not be able to figure it out but this is the actual solution. It is very tough to be in your shoes, and i pray that both you and your wife will overcome this hard times, but you need to take charge and handle your home. It is your wife first, and reduce the influence of your mum on your family. Just let her be and try not to think she has some powers over you or your wife, trust me Jehovah God protects his own and there is a reason for everything. It is hard to accept the loss of a child, but if it was meant to be, it will be...... Move on and start build a stronger family with the woman you love, and this situation will make your family stronger, in the future when you remember this problems, you both will smile and use it as a testimony for us, even a motivational speech but first just like every situation in life, it is our reaction that counts more not really the problem. I pray that i will remember your family in my prayers tonight, stay strong and keep taking extra care of your wife, she needs you more now MadCow1: |

We are planning to start our new maize farm in Ogun state, Nigeria but we would prefer to plant hybrids improved seeds from abroad. We are planning to use some new herbicides and pesticides from abroad too. Our action is because we want to improve our yields per hectares, we have access to improved seeds that have been tested abroad to give up to 10 metric tons per hectare and we want to buy this maize seeds and plant it in Nigeria, also we want to follow the seeds producers procedures and use their recommended herbicides and fertilizers so we would be importing the fertilizer and herbicides too. Our problem now is that we do not know the procedures to import new improved seeds to Nigeria, what are the requirements and necessary permits we need to import these seeds and where can we get them. Are we allowed to import hybrid improved seeds, fertilizers and herbicides into Nigeria and what organization provides permits for this activities. Also we are planning to import new farming equipment like planters, tractors, sprayers and harvester too. What licenses do we need to bring in these equipment. How and where do we get all the license we would need. We are open to companies that can provide the services of obtaining these licenses for us and even help clear all our items. Thanks. |

Is there truly a demand for agricultural products in large quantities like cassava, maize, wheat and soybean in Nigeria? I have seen many topics here talking about how profitable agriculture is in Nigeria and how agriculture is the next big thing for Nigeria. But then the question is why are farmers complaining that there is no read market for their products, why are many farmers so broke they cannot even afford to buy tractor or farming equipment on installment. The truth is that in any business you only make money after you make a sale, so if you are not selling then you are not making money and if you are not making money, it is only a matter of time before you will leave or go bankrupt with the business, which means either you like it or not, the business will die out. The reason why oil was booming for a long time is simply, there is a ready market market for oil, even if you steal it; someone at the other end is willing to pay you for it and will not care where or how you got it. So for any business to be viable there must be a market for it. Is agriculture is truly the next big thing for Nigeria, then where is the market (point of sales) for the product. If there is truly a reasonable demand for our agricultural products, then you will improvement in that sector as more and more smart people come into the industry. One case i have noticed is how people write blogs all over the internet about how cassava farming is very profitable and then you look at the cassava farmers and their story is the opposite, after all the stress of planting and using manual labor (which i believe is the wrong method) to plant their crops, at the end of the harvest they cannot sell at reasonable price because nobody wants their crops. They have enough to make fufu and garri and then what happens to the excess. That is why you cannot convince a farmer to expand his farm because he knows and thinks he is fine with the little he manages, so where is the room for commercial farming. In 2012 i tried farming, i invested into cassava and maize farming, i got a manager to handle the farm for me starting with one hectare; we were planning of moving to 10 hectares and i was ready to start pumping in the money when i decided to pay the farm a visit. I came down to Nigeria and i meet with my farm manager and decide to see the farm. When i got to the village where my farm was, what i saw was amazing (in a bad way). I could not believe people were still using manual labor to farm, so i asked if there was a way to get tractors and other farming equipment, to my surprise the answer was NO. There are tractors at the government house in Oyo state, but as usual it is for decoration. To cut my long story short, i believe that if there exist truly a high demand for cash crops in Nigeria, then we would not need to advertise and beg people to go into farming, you will see how able people will venture into this industry, it is simple logic. If anyone knows about companies that have demands for either maize, cassava, wheat or soybean kindly correct me and prove me wrong either in Nigeria or abroad. NB: Maize is on the prohibition list of the Nigerian Custom, so if we cannot export corn, so what will i do with my 10 tons of corn after harvesting and i need money to replant for the next season. |
