Family / Measuring Up To God’s Standard For Effective Leadership by growinwave: 2:25pm On Aug 12, 2011
All around us today – in ministry, politics, family, community, school, industry
and governance; everybody wants to be a leader. But not everybody wants to do it
in God’s way. Now, people force their way into leadership because they are not
found to have measured up, at least to the basic tenet of leadership engagement.

God has a standard. And those who are following Him must queue up to it, if the
work will be done as He wants it. You must know that the ways of the world is;
and can never be the ways of God. Since He is the one who called you by saying –
“Follow Me and I will MAKE YOU… (Mark 1:17). Your making it in leadership is
dependent on how you can adhere to His standard. That means, to do great work,
or build His people effectively in leadership, will be simpler if only you can
measure up to His requirement, which is not ambiguous. In fact, Bible confirm
this: “His law (commandment, principle) are not grievous – 1 John 5:3. God will
never compromise His Standard. You are the one that must step up for Him to use
you, according to your willingness to abide by His rule. Please read the rest @ leadershipgrowthreviews..com

Business / Attaining Excellence In Leadeship by growinwave: 12:52pm On Jun 21, 2011
Excellence in leadership must be driven by a desire to improve what is being done in the way it is done. Here I share with you some of the factors that can set in motion the pursuit of excellence, with uncommon dedication to ensure the desire is attained without compromising the ethical principles of God’s word. Therefore to be excellence oriented, you must understand the following if want to see your leadership, work business or ministry moving ahead the standard of your closest competitors:

1. Excellence Requires Standard

There are standard in almost everything done on earth. In various profession, there are standard behaviour and practice. In leadership, anything less than improved service and delivery, will be nothing but inferior because – if standard can not be maintained at all, it must not be lowered than it is. So, always maintain standard – ethical standard; professional standard; godly standard; communication standard; integrity standard; relational standard and so on.

2. Excellence Requires Priority

To pursue and do one thing successfully is far better than engaging in many and yet, unsuccessful in any. Itemize all you need to do and priorities that most important of them, and through discipline make conscious effort to become better on that one thing. Don’t be a jack of all trades and master of none. You might be good in all areas, but at least be the best in one.

3. Excellence Requires Objective

Without aim, aimlessness is inevitable objective is the reason for doing what you do. To achieve excellence, objective – which can be vision, goal etc., must be very clear in order to have both insight and foresight which can always propel you to achieve excellence. When there is no specific objective attach to what you do, the won’t be reason and passion to improve on it.

4. Excellence Requires

Style simply means the particular way something is done. No two people are the same. And the way we all do things are clearly difference. More than anything apart from idea, excellence responds easily to style. When you have or initiate a style, the way you do things will become and attraction and a benchmark for others. Even if all you do is what others are doing already.

5. Excellence Requires Process

Everything in life is a process. To achieve excellence, a deliberate process that can initiate and sustain must be put in place. If process is lacking, there won’t be any continuity that will carry on the passion for excellence. Continuation will encourage evaluation, evaluation will encourage correction and correction will encourage improvement. Without process, being under illusion is inevitable because you will keep thinking that what you have done, or doing presently is the best – whereas, people are living you behind.

Family / Change And Leadership In The Family by growinwave: 6:02pm On May 11, 2011
Change brings progress and lack of it promotes and oils the machinery of stagnation. Without change there can never be any meaningful growth that can be a platform for lasting success in any endeavour. To change is to grow; and to grow is to change. When the concept of change is totally embraced – there will be tremendous transformation in and around you and your work. But when change is resisted and often despised, everything will become dull, uninspiring, routine and traditional.

Change, according to Oxford Advance Learners dictionary is “ any act of making something or somebody different with the aim of altering or modifying their shape, meaning, service, nature, concept, focus, appearance, process, style, character, outlook and strategy to achieve better imaging or performance and result.” Now, this is where the problem lies: everybody wants to make progress. But not everybody wants to change to see the progress. And this is the same for many leaders. They want to have stable and successful leadership, but they refused – consciously or unconsciously, to pay attention to what needs to be discarded for peace to reign in the family; and then progress will be visible.

Why People Don’t Embrace Change

1. Fear of failure - Leaders who are always afraid of failing will constantly oppose the need for change. Since such leaders are driven by fear, it will also be difficult for them to see the favour change can bring to them.
2. Lack of foresight - Leaders whose sense of perception is low can never imaging the impossible; and then will not have any passion for options. Option exists only to those who know that where they are now is not the destination yet. This is the bane of our political leaders in Nigeria. Once they win an election, they see it as an end; rather than seeing it as a means to an end. To them, their whole existence rests on the present advantage the have over people. What an hopeless situation, magnified by hopeless people in authority!
3. Satisfaction with average - Average, is described as the best of the worst and the worst of the best. Leaders who always enjoy celebrating the ‘achievements’ of yesterday to the detriment of the expectations of today will never reckon with the need for change. To them the past was the best and the future is unpredictable.
4. Position conscious - Leaders who are carried away by position will not see changes around them easily; neither will they hear the clamour from people under them for change. A lot of people exist under leaders who have bright ideas about what and how to change, but they are listened to because the are not ‘worthy, competent or in the same level’ with them to offer advise.
5. Lack of personal development - To develop yourself is to improve your personal worth, not in term of money, but in terms of value. Leaders who don’t read books of others; attend seminars and training; explore internet; listen to news and mix with his or her peers will find it difficult to consider change. Such leaders are trapped within themselves and until they reach out, they can not see beyond their noses.

Having considered why change is not often pursued by many leaders, there is need to also know what must be changed by us to witness growth and increase of our work. In this new year, to run a good leadership that will impact positively on our work, we must be willing to change the following:

What to Change in Leadership

1. Opinion-
One thing that stands against leaders easily is the issue of opinion. Never hold on too tight to your opinion because you are man, or you are the bread winner. Opinion can change at any time. Most leaders are driven by the opinion of others. So, wrong opinion about your family, as a man or woman - even people you work with on wealth; ideology etc. should change for good. It is only when your opinion conflict with the word of God that you should stand on the immutable word. If not, have a change of mentality. You wife is not a demon as you have been wrongly thought over the years. Neither is your husband a monster. As a counsellor, i can tell you this: EVERY WOMAN IS A TOOL provided you know how to make use of it. And EVERY MAN IS BOOK provided you know how to read it. With this, methinks misunderstanding between spouses, which often affect the children, will be minimise; if not eradicated.
2. Structure-
For you to see progress all you may need is change in you entity, which includes designs; space; furniture etc, , within your work, office or even home. Creative rearrangement can save a lot of hassle and make people perceive and do business with you in a new way. Moving gadget, chairs, table from where they have always been to another place might just make your work more attractive to new people around you.
3. Friends-
I have often said it this way that: friendship is not by force, it is by choice. Your friends will determine your frontiers. Do away with friends who are not helping you to advance in the course of your life or work. Henry Ford, said “my best friend is the one that brings out the best in me.“ Friends who put you under pressure and encourage you to do what you don’t want to do, should be dropped from your family list. Look for new friends who are connecting and have ability to add value to you and your family. Unproductive partners should be done away with. You don't need friends who alwaysinstigate you to disregard the opinions, feeling or reaction of your spouse in crucial matters.
4. Strategy-
Strategy is always better than energy. Think back! How have you done what you did in the last one year that has not worked? If you can answer the question; then solution is near you. Until you know what you ought to know you will keep struggling with what you do. There is a place for prayer; and there is also a place for strategy. Change your pattern of operation. Learn more how others do it better and apply it in your own case. Usually, principles are the same everywhere. But what is different is the application of the principles.
4. Language-
By language I mean your confession. What you confess is what your language becomes and that is what your family - husband, wife and children will always respond to. Loud your change; talk about it; confess it all the time until every one in your house buy into it . You can’t be more than what you believe and confess. Always remember this; what you you say affect your children either positively or negatively. So. make your language good; look away from the lack, misunderstanding etc,

I wish you all the best as you make effort to change what needs to be changed for progress to be visible in your family.

Life is getting complex almost all the time. The more complex it become the more puzzles to be solved. But puzzles can not be solved by mere thinking or wishes. They can only be solved by in-depth knowledge. Likewise, running a successful leadership is a serious task for any leader who really hopes to influence people. But such leaders must know first, that the hardest of God's creation to lead are human beings, not animal.

This is not to say that humans are unnecessarily stubborn - it is just that somehow, they know what they want, how they want it and when they want it. With this, they certainly will resist anything that looks to them as ' imposition', without their due consent. As for animals, they will just respond positively to any prompting of instruction and direction, no matter how small that might be.

To lead is to serve and to serve is to lead. Until you understand that leadership is not about being proud of your status or title, you can never do well in leadership. But when you see leadership as a platform to offer tangible service; then you will view every responsibility as opportunity by God`s privilege to make, impact anywhere. Serving genuinely can recommend you faster for promotion or lifting. So, serve!

To do well in leadership and become successful is to keep improving yourself. The largest room in the world is the room for improvement. Leadership starts from you first. If you don't develop yourself regularly through learning, you can never improve and add values to the lives of people. How you keep improving yourself will determine how your leadership will be – because,

1. If you are weak, your leadership will be weak.
2. If you are a reader, people under you will appreciate reading.
3. If you are indecisive, your work or business will suffer greatly.
4. If you are growing, people under you will grow too.
5. If your mental capacity is low, you will only attract low-level people in your leadership.
6. If you detest learning, you will be left behind by your equals.
7. If your skill acquisition and application is little, your result will be poor and frustrating

One the most powerful LEADERSHIP SKILLS i teach in leadership classes is: Listening Skill. Listening is an art and it is imperative in leadership. It increases your capacity to read people and understand them deeply. When you talk, you only voice out what you already know. But when you listen, you have a chance to learn new things. To lead well, always find time and listen to people you lead – because when you do, you will hear what is not even spoken by mouth. Leaders who do not listen to their followers will encourage them to be listening to others outside. When your listening ability is faulty, you will be taking decisions without considering the feelings of people.  So, BE A LISTENER , read more www.leadershipgrowthreviews..com
