Let me assume he made that statement, does that warrant the declaration of Biafra with no adequate preparation or international support?
There is no reason to even assume anything as nothing of such is available anywhere..either classified or declassified, either in the open or in secret.

It was a Radio Biafra propaganda on the eve of the war and igbos have latched on that nonsense propaganda as one of the reason they lost the war they lost already even before the beginning of the war

If the East goes, The west will go?
Any link??

Read the link I gave you, you will see what he said and how igbos turned it upside down later to start claiming what you wrote grin

Let me quote for you an exercept from the link

The other forgotten document of the civil had a better chance but its absence from circulation for a long time, was no less a tragedy. It was supposedly captured among other tapes of the Biafran Broadcasting Corporation when Enugu fell to Federal troops. The tapes were transcribed with glee, according to Awolowo, by those who thought it would finally nail him for the agreement he reached with Ojukwu to have the Western Region secede with the East as Radio Biafra never stopped insisting. As it turned out no such thing, is to be found in the tapes. Rather Awolowo was making a passionate plea for the continuance of Nigeria as a single political entity.
It was radio Biafra propaganda, just like Nnamdi Kanu radio Biafra telling you how Russia will send you war planes angry

please answer my question.
The question is: if Ojukwu signed the warrant, how did the effectuation of the warrant wait for so long until it coincided with the order given by Lt.Col Yakubu Gowon at the head of the revenge coup, for Awolowo to be released? This is an important question because Awolowo was not released until seven months after the first coup of the year. The historic task fell upon the revenge coup makers who had toppled General Aguiyi Ironsi after a rigorously organized pogrom against the Igbo, with a number of other Southerners added to the kill. It was certainly to gain a wider base than their Northern security ambitions allowed that the release of Awolowo from Calabar Prison was announced.

It leaves a sneaking feeling that Ojukwu’s powers over the Eastern Region, to which all Igbo in the Nigerian diaspora had to return in search of a safe haven, had not yet become so all-pervasive as to be able to countermand a swiftly executed decision by Federal authorities intent on releasing Awolowo from jail. Nor would it have been politic for Ojukwu, even if he had the power, to attempt to prevent Awolowo from being released after a Federal order to that effect. It would have amounted to holding Awolowo hostage. Could it be said then that in order not to fall into the role of ostage taker, Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu, as Military Governor of the Eastern Region carried out an order
That will answer you

dochenaj:
Aguiyi obviously was not a violent man, and that was the more reason that he refused to believe there was mutiny in the army and had blind trust in his Chief of Staff. The same apathy towards violence was what made him to keep the coup plotters in prison.

Ojukwu might get some blame for how he managed the war, and how he treated his lieutenants. I don't believe the secession was a bad call considering the massive killings of Igbos both civilian and military going on in the North without any decisive action from Gowon.

He was however not doing badly in the war initially until his lieutenants became disgusted with how he managed the victories won and decided to withdraw from conquered territories. And unfortunately that action cost the likes of Ifeajuna, Banjo, etc their lives as they were eventually executed for treason. And with that a growing dissension from the lieutenants and viola Biafra fell.

Azikiwe had ambitions of being the president of the largest black nation in the world. And it was said ambition that made him and Awolowo to not support the secession. In hindsight, I laugh at both men in Spanish.
Awolowo clearly supported this and Referendum, but Zik and Ahmadu Bello sold the impression that Awolowo was having a secessionist idea and therefore his call for that to be inserted in the Independence conference. They practically blackmailed Awo!

Read this link and you will want to bring Zik alive and kill him again

https://www.google.com/amp/s/elombah.com/amp/how-zik-denied-ethic-groups-right-to-secede-by-akib-abiola

Opening paragraph

Most people don’t know that it was Zik who opposed Awo against the provision for secession in our constitution.

If Zik had not opposed Awolowo and if he had not won the day, there would have been no justification to fight Ojukwu for secession and definitely no need for this second round of Biafra agitation.

It was an Igbo man who laid the Bobby trap that later caught off the Biafrans legs for self-determination.

CONCLUSION:

Unitary or Federalism is not our problem but rather how we chose as a country to operate our system of govt. U may as well blame Nigeria woes on federalism and the person that introduced it.

Let Nigeria practice true federalism and you will see how beautiful it will look on the country.
Ultimately that will lead to regionalism and the positive competition that will engender can only benefit all of us as a nation and citizens

Bro, you really have no idea what is killing this country. Check this out!

“Of the 193 UN member states, 165 are governed as unitary states”

China, France, UK, Italy, Spain
are some of the notable countries that practice Unitary Form of Govt in the world today. Do these countries have the kind of challenges that Nigeria has self-inflicted upon herself?

Ironsi was/is not our problem unless we want to continue in the pathetic delirium of boot-licking our oppressors while blaming their wickedness on those manly enough to heap dirt on.
Those countries you referred to are almost 100% homogeneous unlike Nigeria where our differences can be touched and not just feel.

Why do you think our idea of federalism was borrowed from America? Because of the strong differences in America make up!! Meanwhile Nigeria is even more heterogeneous and way more diverse than America.

A unitary form of govt is only workable in an homogeneous country.

Are u in the igbo mind ?

Nigeria should

1. Demand some sort of post breakup compensation from biafra that will enable us move past oil .

2. Discuss and agree on terms of engagement post breakup (business and travel constraints)

3. Break up respectfully
I can’t assume what their intentions are but I can only judge by their actions.

Begging and crying for 2NB to link them with the SW is not an action of people that want to go.

Spending over 350 days in a year with people they want to severe relationships with is not an action of people that want to go.

Crying and threatening to report Arewa people to the UN when they were asked to leave their region is not action of people that want to go away.

You are speaking as though Ojukwu woke up one day without any provocation to declare biafra? When you want to condemn Ojukwu's action, atleast consider the totally unprovoked massacre of Igbo race severally in the north. As the leader of the eastern states, what other option is there to react to the senseless killings? Order killing back? He is no animal! So what other option is there? Cower and accept the continuous killings? Igbos we know are no cowards. His decision to succeed was the best line of action. His mistake probably was that he trusted a certain tribe so much to keep up to their end of an agreement. If that tribe didn't agree at first, he would have considered other options towards the succession declaration.
Which agreement and which other tribe ?

The truth is your fathers lost the war woefully so and therefore will look for all excuses to justify such a terrible lost.
There was NEVER any agreeement whatsoever with any other tribe, if you are calling the admonition that Awo have to the FG that Nigeria should not push igbos out of Nigeria or else he will have no choice but to take yorubas too out of Nigeria as an agreement then you lack comprehension.

You fathers lost the the first and only war they’ve ever engaged woefully and it has nothing to do with yorubas.

You igbos we’re doing very well in the northern flank at the beginning of the war until you decided to bring Yorubas into the war by opening another flank towards the SW. if you’ve concentrated and face the northern flank, perhaps the story could have been different

Read more history books and not the ones written by Achebe and stories from your uncles that lost the war.
