Phones › Google Looks To Include Wireless Charging For Its Car by gustav25(op): 2:03pm On Feb 06, 2016
Self-driving cars are poised to be an incredible tool of the future, but they won't be much use if they can't hold a charge. It looks like Google wants to solve this problem via resonant magnetic induction, a form of wireless charging that could use manhole-style transmitters embedded in pavement to juice up driverless vehicles, IEEE Spectrum reports.

The outlet spotted documents that Google filed with the Federal Communications Commission outlining its work with Hevo Power and Momentum Dynamics. These companies were cleared to install experimental chargers at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California, and in its nearby Castle facility used to test self-driving cars.

The idea is that self-driving vehicles would http://ogatech..co.uk/2016/02/google-is-exploring-wireless-charging.html?m=1 for more
Phones › Apple To Bring More Of It's Apps To Android by gustav25(op): 10:46am On Feb 06, 2016
Apple CEO Tim Cook let an intriguing bit of news slip earlier this week at a town hall meeting with the company's employees. Apple Music for Android was apparently just a first step: The company is considering bringing more of its software and services to Google's mobile OS.

It sounds a little crazy, as Apple's message for decades has been how well its software and hardware work together. But both Google and Microsoft are infiltrating iOS with their own excellent apps, pushing many of Apple's services to the side. Cook may feel he needs to fight back and bring more Apple apps to Android -- but he first needs to make sure the company's software runs better on its own hardware than it currently does.

Phones › Microsoft Purchases Swift Keyboard For $250million by gustav25(op): 4:03pm On Feb 03, 2016
Earlier today,Microsoft released a statement about the successful purchase of the Swift keyboard that is popular on the Android and Ios systems. In a blog post, Microsoft’s executive vice president of technology and research Harry Shum said:
We’ll continue to develop SwiftKey’s market-leading keyboard apps for Android and iOS as well as explore scenarios for the integration of the core technology across the breadth of our product and services portfolio. Moreover, SwiftKey’s predictive technology aligns with Microsoft’s investments and ambition to develop intelligent systems that can work more on the user’s behalf and under their control.

In the coming months, we’ll have more to share about how we’ll integrate SwiftKey technology with our Guinness World Record Word Flow technology for Windows.

Microsoft purchased SwiftKey for around $250 million.

The reason for the deal is apparently SwiftKey’s Artificial Intelligence software, which makes SwiftKey so good at predictive text.

Egbon Apple is number 3 because of the sole reason that it is not a diverse os ......Samsung fell flat because of their ability to dish out 3-⁴ phones same time and also because xiaomi and huawei can give any brand globally a run for their money.
With the android ecology, people in China have the choice to make unlike iPhone that you have no option except you want to switch os or buy a new or old model .
With the way you are talking someone will expect apple to be at the summit but alas the are in number 3 and contribute like only 15-24℅ of the pie.
For this past year ,Samsung bossed all brands in global sales and revenue and I hope you are awell of that?
Phones › More Money For Bloggers As Telenor Jumps Into Ad Tech, Acquires Tapad For $360M by gustav25(op): 3:11pm On Feb 01, 2016
Today, Norway-based Telenor announced that it has acquired Tapad, a New York-based ad tech startup co-founded by two Norwegians, Are Traasdahl and Dag Liodden, for $360 million “on a debt and cash-free basis.” The price covers 95% of the company. Traasdahl and Liodden are together keeping the remaining 5%. The deal is expected to close Q1 2016, subject to regulatory conditions.

Tapad was founded in 2010 and focuses on cross-device marketing technology: it tracks what it says are billions of data points across multiple screens to gain a better sense of what consumers are doing online, and then packages and sells that information to media buyers, brands and other advertisers in order to create better targeted advertising, to feed into what Tapad estimates is a $160 billlion digital advertising market.

It sounds like Telenor primarily intends to use the tech across its own footprint, which is not only in Norway, as its name might imply: the company is also very active in emerging markets like Vietnam and Burma, where mobile networks are only just starting to hit the big time with services that are not cost-crippling to the vast majority of residents.

“We are thrilled to join the Telenor family. With more than 200 million mobile subscribers in 13 markets, Telenor is one of the largest and most successful telecom companies globally. I am excited by what this acquisition means for our employees, our partners and our continued growth. This will accelerate our vision to become the worlds’ leading provider of unified digital marketing solutions,” Traasdahl said in a statement.

Phones › Samsung Drops Out Of Top 5 In China by gustav25(op): 2:43pm On Feb 01, 2016
How the giants have fallen!!Dropping from the Chinese market is no joke for any company.

Samsung has made no secret of the fact that its mobile business is struggling. Time and again the company has pointed towards increased competition from Chinese vendors as one of the reasons why it’s mid-range and low-end devices aren’t performing as well as they used to. The effect is visible in Samsung’s position in China’s smartphone market as it no longer ranks on the list of top 5 smartphone vendors in the country.

Data from Strategy Analytics shows that in Q4 2015 Huawei was the top smartphone vendor in China with 15.2% market share. Xiaomi came second with 14.8% and Apple bagged third place with 13.1% of the market. Vivo and Oppo close out the top 5 with 10% and 9.2% of the market respectively. Samsung ranked fifth in Q3 2015 but that position has now been taken by Oppo and Apple remains the only non-Chinese vendor in the top 5 list. Samsung was leading the field as recently as 2014 but the meteoric rise of local vendors has shrunk its market share as Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo alone now account for almost 46% of China’s smartphone market.
This calls for a reshuffling of ideas in the Samsung camp to hit the ever dynamic market.

Phones › Facebook Launches Live Video For Iphone In USA by gustav25(op): 11:49am On Jan 29, 2016
Iphone users in nigeria,Facebook is ready to start broadcasting live video on its iPhone app.The feature will enable Facebook users to share live video with friends and family. It's similar to the live video app called Periscope that Twitter introduced on its messaging service last year.

Facebook is still working on adding live video to its app for Android devices.

Earlier in the week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company's new Reactions feature will be rolled out globally "pretty soon". Zuckerberg didn't give a more concrete timetable while discussing the new feature with analysts in a conference call Wednesday following Facebook's latest quarterly earnings report.

The additional options will expand Facebook beyond the renowned thumbs-up 'Like' symbol that people click on to show they like a comment, photo or video posted on the social network.

"We want people to be able to share all of the things that are meaningful to them, not just the things that are happy and that people are going to like when they see it," Zuckerberg said Wednesday.

Facebook is hoping the additional choices will encourage people to share their thoughts more frequently and hang out on the social network for even longer periods than they already do.

Phones › Facebook Now Worth Over $300billion by gustav25(op): 11:32am On Jan 29, 2016
Facebook soared 16% on Thursday, pushing its market cap over $300 billion and vaulting Amazon.com to become the fourth-most valuable technology company.

The stock jump was propelled by estimate-topping fourth-quarter results that showed the growing strength of Facebook's digital advertising business.
Nearly two dozen brokerages raised price targets,
Macquarie Securities analyst Ben Schachter raised his price target to $150 from $120.
"The revenue reacceleration was a complete surprise and highlights Facebook's utility for advertisers around the world," Schachter wrote in a research report. "Importantly, management commentary on 2016 revenues and the operating expenses guidance were both very bullish."

Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak raised his price target to $135 from $130. Facebook executives noted on Wednesday that ad revenue from mobile app Instagram "made a contribution," but "core Facebook is really driving the top line." Nowak expects Instagram to add as much as $2.1 billion in revenue in 2016.

UBS analyst Eric Sheridan increased his price target to $130 from $125.
"Facebook's earnings (yet again) demonstrated the power of a platform that has been built to promote global connectivity, innovation around ad unit deployment and investments for future growth at strong incremental margins," he wrote.

Phones › Apple Acquires Learnsprout by gustav25(op): 11:22am On Jan 29, 2016
Apple has acquired LearnSprout, a three-year-old San Francisco-based education-technology startup. Neither of the companies disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

LearnSprout offers online data insights to help K-12 educators. The startup aims to help schools make sense from data held in Student Information Systems - see a trend in attendance, health etc. The startup, which also offers multi-year trend reports, also handles data duplication and serves developers and schools with most up-to-date information.

Founded in 2012 by Franklyn Chien, Anthony Wu, and Joe Woo - veterans, respectively, of Facebook, Google, and Microsoft - LearnSprout has in its three years of existence has expanded services to more than 2,500 schools and 200 districts across 42 states in the US.

In the past, the company has raised a sum of $4.7 million (in two rounds, $500,000 and $4.2 million) from some high-profile investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Samsung Ventures.

Apple confirmed the acquisition to Bloomberg with its usual boilerplate statement, "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."

It won't be long before Facebook's 1.6 billion users have more ways to quickly express their feelings on the world's largest social network.
After four months of testing outside the US,Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that "pretty soon" six new emotions will be added to the social network throughout the world.
.
Zuckerberg didn't give a more concrete timetable while discussing the new feature with analysts in a conference call Wednesday following Facebook's latest quarterly earnings report.

The additional options will expand Facebook beyond the renowned thumbs-up symbol that people click on to show they like a comment, photo or video posted on the social network.

The new reactions will include symbols for "angry," ''sad," ''wow," ''haha" and "love."

Facebook has been testing the different reactions in Chile, the Philippines, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Japan and Colombia.

Zuckerberg said Facebook's engineers still need to make a few more "tweaks" before the new options are offered in other parts of the world.

Phones › Whatsapp Could Soon Get Facebook Integration; End-to-end Encryption Indicator by gustav25(op): 8:23pm On Jan 25, 2016
WhatsApp could soon introduce a feature to allow its users to integrate their Facebook account with the instant messaging and voice calling app. While exactly how this will benefit users remains to be seen, the description reveals that the integration will "improve Facebook experiences."

The version 2.12.413 of WhatsApp for Android reveals company's intention to allow users to link the messaging service with their respective Facebook account, as spotted by Android developer Javier Santos.

The feature, as seen in the screenshot, appears on the Account settings of the app, and asks users whether they want to share their WhatsApp account information with Facebook. From the leaked images, it appears to be an optional choice.

Facebookacquired WhatsApp in a multi-billion deal in 2014. Ever since the acquisition, the social juggernaut has been expected to introduce features to make WhatsApp and Facebook's marquee services Facebook and Messenger work more efficiently, leveraging on each other's features. But any such integration hasn't been seen yet.

Interestingly, the same version of the app also has a "hidden" security settings page that provides users with the option to enable an additional indicator that would inform them whether their chats and calls are encrypted. Enabling the feature, however, requires a person to have a rooted Android smartphone or tablet and run a bunch of command.

To recall, in 2014, WhatsApp partnered with Open Whisper Systems, a nonprofit software group that develops collaborative open source projects to scramble messages with a cryptographic key to bolster privacy. In the same year, Open Whisper Systems noted that the end-to-end encryption had been implemented on WhatsApp's Android client. In the studies conducted since, it has been found that the feature hasn't been implemented correctly, with the digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation giving WhatsApp a score of two out of seven when tested for privacy sophistication.

The inclusion of an additional indicator, if it is something that is indeed on the cards, could improve WhatsApp's image with privacy activists and enthusiasts who largely use services such as Telegram and Secure, though these people might not like the idea of sharing their information with Facebook. We've reached out to WhatsApp for comments and clarification, and will update the post when we hear back from them.

Phones › China Plans Supercomputer Capable Of More Than A Billion Calculations by gustav25(op): 11:26pm On Jan 23, 2016
China is planning a supercomputer 1,000 times more powerful than its groundbreaking Tianhe-1A within two years as it faces rising demand for next-generation computing.
The National Supercomputer Centre in Tianjin will release a prototype in 2017 or 2018 of an "exascale" computer - one capable of at least a billion billion calculations per second, Meng Xiangfei, head of the applications department, said on Friday.
Exascale computing is considered the next frontier in the development of supercomputers and it would represent a significant achievement in computer engineering.
Tianhe-1A was recognised as the world's fastest computing system in 2010. Though it has since been superseded by Tianhe-2, Tianhe-1A is being more widely used.
Computer scientists are finding it challenging to run contemporary applications at their optimum on faster supercomputers.
With its uses including oil exploration data management, animation and video effects, biomedical data processing and high-end equipment manufacturing, Tianhe-1A's capacity is being stretched, Meng was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency.
It is carrying out more than 1,400 computing tasks and serving about 1,000 users per day.
The exascale computer will be wholly independently developed by the National Supercomputer Centre, according to Meng.
About a seventh of Tianhe-1A's CPU chips are Chinese. This is one powerful supercomputer to be.

Apple will launch an updated version of the iPhone 5s called iPhone 5se (SE stands for special edition), says a new report on 9to5Mac.
The report also claims that the 4-inch iPhone 6c rumours were fake, and based on its sources, Apple is launching an updated version of the iPhone 5s with a design similar to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series.
9to5Mac adds that while the rear and front camera will remain the same as the original iPhone 5s, it will have a new NFC chip for Apple Pay and barometer for tracking elevation in the Health app. The processor will be the A8 from Apple iPhone 6.
It adds that the iPhone 5se is not a reference model for the new iPhone 7, and will have the headphone jack. Numerous reports have claimed that Apple is getting rid of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 series.
The new upgrade iPhone 5se will also support Live photos like Apple iPhone 6s series and will have a rose-gold colour option. It won’t have a 3D Touch Display. and could be launched in March or April of 2016.
