Music/Radio / How 9ice Reclaimed His Throne With These Songs by hafeestonova: 9:19pm On Oct 16, 2017
I remember the first time I heard the vocals of 9ice way back in 2007 even though I couldn’t understand what he was saying but I fell in love with his melody because he sounded different and when he released his street hit song G**ja Man I knew he was destined for greatest.
9ice became a global brand the moment the song Gonso Aso was released and from that moment onward he has gone on to win numerous awards both local and international though I am sure fans are still hoping he gets that Grammy he promised us. 9ice' success in the Nigerian music industry won’t be well said if credits aren’t given to the mastermind himself, ID Cabasa producer extraordinary, he produced all the major songs on the Gongo Aso and Tradition album.

No doubt after 5 albums 9ice was already a legend in the music industry as his record can speak for itself, he became the first Nigerian artiste to release Two Successful Album at the same time, Versus and Bashorun Gaa which were is fourth and fifth album, Certificate was the first.

They say getting to the top is easy but staying at the top is the hardest, and 9ice wasn’t an exemption to this saying, of course we all know the Whole Once Bitten Twice Shy story and how 9ice began to struggle musically though it has to be said that after the whole Ruggedman issue and split with Cabasa, 9ice still went ahead to prove he has what it takes as he released two album at the same time yet again.

Though these albums CNN and GRA didn’t gain much attention as expected, this was due to the fact that the quality of his music had dropped, his sweet melodious vocals wasn’t appealing anymore and also his attention was divided as he now had his mind on becoming an Honourable in Oyo state as he went into politics.

First forward to post politics, after losing his election, 9ice decides it was time to come back to the music scene, being a legend that shouldn’t be hard but that wasn’t the case as 9ice found it hard to break back into the music scene but gradually like an upcoming artiste he kept giving us singles after singles and before we knew it Living Things became a national anthem and his comeback album ID Cabasa was a hit.

Before the album, these five songs were solely responsible for making 9ice claim back his throne
1. Aiye Familete: This song had everything 9ice is known for and this is one was one of his best song for the year 2015. When I heard this song I knew that the Gongo Aso 9ice was back but then again I kept mute not to get my hopes high.

2. Economy: Produced by DJ Coublon, this for me is the best 9ice' song I have heard since 2014, 9ice went in really had on this one as you could feel that fire and energy we had known him for and of course DJ Coublon did an excellent work on the production.

3. Ogaraa: When I listened to this song, I knew this song had all those element that had been missing from 9ice' previous songs and I knew this was him getting his grove back.

4. Glass House: Another DJ Coublon produced song, I mean after what he did with Economy, it was only natural for 9ice to return to DJ Coublon for another song and of course once again Coublon was able to help him out.

5. Living Things: The video of this song is 9ice' most viewed video on YouTube with 2.4million views as at the time of writing this article, so there is no need to tell you what a hit this song is. Credit has to go to Young John for coming through for the production of this song.

Music/Radio / Re: Letter To Nigerian Musicians by hafeestonova: 1:28pm On Sep 18, 2017
this is a misplace letter, if you want to talk about Nigeria music talk with facts and mention names...not all our artistes are singing nonsense, of course I would be naive to say some don't but then again the industry is wide you have to find what works for you...Timaya sang Pity us, Joe El sang Hold On, 2Baba sang Hold My Hands....these are few songs that has good lyrics and message.... and let even be realistic the so called good lyrically song who has it EPP...bottom line is every music has a message it just depend on who is listening.....if you want to meaningful artistes listen people like Timi Dakolo, ASA, Johnny Drill, Femi Kuti, Cobham's....as american get good song na so them get useless song...

Griffon:
Dear Nigerian musicians,

I chose the word “musician” because it explains everything about your profession. I could not convince myself to elevate you to the status of an artiste for that word to me connotes originality, creativity and grace which most of you are deeply bereft of. So, we will manage “musician” until you heed the advice I am about to dish out on a cold, winter plate.

I still remember the first time I heard Yemi Alade’s “Ferrari”. I was on my way to work in Lagos. I felt so sober throughout that day that one would think some personal misfortune had befallen me. It suddenly dawned on me that something had to be said or done or both. I realised this was an anomaly that had slowly but steadily found its way into the minds of Nigerian musicians. A typical case of misplaced priorities.

Dear Nigerian musician, I am tired. Tired of listening to empty lyrics. Tired of dancing to good beats but intellectually unchallenging songs that leave me feeling more empty than the moments before I selectively exposed myself to your shallow, poorly-written, unstimulating songs without the feeling that a lot more could have been embedded in them to do justice to whatever theme you chose to explore. Do you know that a song, just like a good story or movie, must have a central theme and subject matter which it addresses? Do you even know what a “theme” means?
Do you know that there are several issues facing the world as I write this? Cases including but not limited to Racism, Hunger, Pain, Poverty, Political and Economic Incompetence, both natural and human-induced calamities, Diseases, even social vices etc. and music is one of the most effectively aesthetic, creative and artistic ways to not only engender awareness across a larger and most mixed human spectrum of intellectual, ethnic and racial diversification but also arouse positive responses about these problems plaguing humanity?

Do you know that there is more to music than simply shouting, “Masterkraft on the Beat”, or “Its Don Jazzy Again”, or the other annoying one, “We Are Back Again”? Do you know that there is a higher calling to your profession than simply mixing instrumentals (what you loosely call ‘beats’) or the awkward idea of aspiring to become the next GLOBACOM, MTN or GULDER ambassador? Or even the latest limiting ado about signing for ‘foreign’ record labels? Do you even know that you, dear Nigerian musician, can win a Grammy award, but only when you have done just about enough with a timeless music that does not only say, “Chop My Money” or “Baby Shake What Your Momma Gave You”, or “I Don Blow”? You see, music is not meant to be common. It is supposed to be timeless and its influence expected to transcend national or even continental borders.

Ever wondered why "We Are the World" by the United Support of Artists (USA) for Africa, remains the signature track for natural disasters and one of the world’s all time highest grossing songs ever (since its release in 1985, it has raised over $63million for humanitarian causes with about ninety percent of the money being pledged to African relief, both long and short term) or why Bob Marley’s “One Love” continues to be such an emblematic song unifying the world’s divisiveness and diversity to name but a few?
So biko, when next you go to your studio to sing your ‘hit track’, remember it is supposed to touch lives in more ways than just telling that your mysterious ‘bae’ to “wind her waist for you”.

Music/Radio / Reviewing The 'simisola' Album By Simi by hafeestonova: 3:24pm On Sep 17, 2017
Artiste: Simi
Album: Simisola
Tracks: 12 (+ 3 bonuses)
Features: Adekunle Gold
Producers: Oscar, Vtek Seyikeyz, Sess.
This is the most anticipated female album of the year, X3M Music artiste Simi finally drops her debut album titled Simisola and without further ado here is what the album has to offer.

The album kicks off with a powerfully produced song titled Remind Me as Simi once again reminds us how beautiful and powerful her vocals her. Produced by Oscar, this song will have a 9/10 rating as it is a perfect start to the album.

Joromi is the second track off the album and one of the singles that was released to promote the album, the creativity behind her turning Jomori into another sweet melodious song is beautiful and the rating will be 9/10, this is another Oscar produced track.

Aimasiko is another beautifully created song and once again we can hear the creativity Simi put into the song. Seyikeyz really came through for the production of this song, the rating will be 8/10.

The next track is Complete Me and this track is also produced by Oscar who produced most of the songs on this album. This is the typical love song we know Simi for but once again the production is top notch, the instruments arrangement were brain bursting. The rating will be 10.

Once again Simi thrills us with her blissful vocals on Gone For Good and in a way she reminds me of Asa. Oscar also came through with the production on this song as the rating will be 10 this is actually my favourite song, o deep.

Original Baby sees Simi try out a different sound as she serves us with some reggae tune on this one and I have to say she also came through on this, the rating will be 9/10.

Sess (The Problem Kid) made is production skills felt on this album with a beautifully produced track titled One Kain and as expected Simi didn’t dull the song at all. The rating will be 8/10.

Take Me Back features Adekunle Gold and this probably might be the best song on this album, both artistes showed us why we love them and why we have always clamoured for more collaborations. This song will carry a 10 rating and I have to say everything about this song is dope including the instrumentals.

O Wa N’be is a brilliant highlife tune from Simi as she also tries to prove to us that her versatility knows no limit and the instrumentals on this song is brain bursting, the rating will be 9/10. This is a Vtek produced track.

Smile For Me is another single that was release off the album and we already know that this song is a chart topper and it’s still retain it rating from our Absolute Hearts Music Review which is a 9/10.

Angelia is another beautiful song with some beautiful guitar strings and once again Simi came through on this one as the rating will be 9/10.

Finally the album comes to an end officially with the song titled Hiphop Hurray this is another song that show that Simi is not just a beautiful singer but also a good composer. The rating will be 9/10.

Simisola is a great body of work and I have to say one of the best female albums I have listened to in the last five years and I see this album going on to win multiple awards this year. This album is full of creativity as it captures the soul and puts it in a self-discovery mood. Simi is not just a beautiful singer; she is also a creative writer and composer.

I know this might piss some people off but I really don’t care, if we are talking of general understanding of music, Simi is second to Asa. Her music composition and arrangement is one thing that really stood out for in this album and of course the productions was also on point and shout out to Foikee, Alaba, Dami and Ayo who also added some additional sounds to the album.

All in all this is a solid debut album as the total rating will be 9/10.

Music/Radio / Reviewing Songs Released By African Artistes In The Last 7 Days by hafeestonova: 2:42pm On Sep 16, 2017
Hello there hope your week has been wonderful, once again it’s time for another episode of Absolute Hearts Music Review, African’s No 1 musical review.
Without further ado here are the songs we have for this week;

1. Zoro X Flavour - Echolac (Bag Of Blessing): After praising the Campus Girls last week Zoro teams up with Mr Flavour and together they decide to give God the praise with the song titled Echolac (Bag Of Blessing), the rating will be 8/10.

2. Ice Prince ft. Olamide x Mr Jollof - Owonikoko: I really don’t want to join the conversation that Ice Prince now sounds like an upcoming artiste but with his flow on this song I kind of understand why people think he needs to step up. Ice wasn’t impressive on this song. Olamide and Mr Jollof actually came through and the production was also on point and that are the SAVING grace for this song. The rating will be 7/10.

3. Samklef - Philo: Samklef returns with another decent effort on very cool production, for a Samklef standard. Philo isn’t a bad song at all as the rating will be 8/10.

4. Mr Eazi ft Ty Dolla Sign x French Montana x Major Lazer - Leg Over (Remix): After trending all week on twitter for the wrong reasons, Mr Eazi decide to win our hearts with the remix of his smash hit single Leg Over and he features some major international act on this one. This remix isn’t a bad one but my problem is this, with Ty Dolla Sign, French Montana and Major Lazer, Eazi should have just recorded a new tune instead of making a remix of a song that doesn’t need to be remixed. Like I said the remix isn’t bad at the same time there is nothing special about it. The rating will be 7/10.

5. Selebobo - I Don't Care: Selebobo is not relenting on his effort to have a very positive 2017 and with that he has released another decent song titled I Don’t Care and I have to say Selebobo killed it. The rating will be 9/10.

6. Ycee - Komije: After enjoying s strong collaboration with Falz, Ycee returns with his first single after releasing his EP and has expected Ycee didn’t let us down, Komije is lit and the rating will be 9/10.

7. DJ Consequence x Olamide – Assignment: DJ Consequence has a good run at the moment, after releasing a club banger with Mayorkun, he teams up with Olamide on a sick production from Young John and together they have given us another classic street anthem. Credits has to go to Olamide for steadily dropping those street vibes and the production on this song can’t just be ignored, Young John really killed it. The rating will be 9/0.

8. Niniola - Sicker: Niniola returns to basics as she teams up with one of her favourite producers, Sarz who is also responsible for her breakthrough song Ibadi. Sticker is another banger from the sexy Niniola and the rating will be 9/10.

9. Nonso Amadi ft Eugy - Kwasia: The beautiful vocalist and melodious singer Nonso Amadi teams up with Eugy and together they serve us with this beautiful tune titled Kwasia and all I can say is beautiful, the rating will be 9/10.

10. DJ Xclusive ft. Solidstar x Tiwa Savage: Super star DJ Xclusive returns with another dope joint and on this one he brings Mavin first lady Tiwa Savage and Achievas frontrunner himself Solidstar and together they gave us a solid track titled Pose. The rating will be 8/10.

11. Koker - Okay: Chocolate City artiste Koker is back with another smooth relief song, not one of his strongest efforts but then again he did just enough to make the song Okay. The rating will be 8/10.

12. Nateo C ft. Sarkodie - Kill’N Me Softly: After taking a long pause from the music scene the MC with the M.Sc makes his return with another powerful flow on a lovely production from Masterkraft and he features Ghanaian finest Sarkodie. Kill’N Me Softly is a decent come back from Super C and I am sure his fans will be excited about this. The rating will be 8/10.

Music/Radio / Check Out This Jesse Jagz Album Review by hafeestonova: 6:25pm On Sep 15, 2017
Artiste: Jesse Jagz
Album: Odysseus
Tracks: 10
Features: Hot Ice, Melon (R2bees) , Styl Plus, Cynthia Morgan, Burna Boy.
Producers: Jesse Jagz

I have to say I am excited reviewing this project, it’s something I have longed for and finally Jesse Jagz drops another anticipated album titled Odysseus. This will be Jesse's fourth studio album and one out of the three albums he promised he will release back to back, when the remaining two will drop is something that can’t really be said for now but in the meantime let see what Odysseus has for us.

The album kicks off with the track called Genesis and this is a real tone setter for what the rest of the album is going to sound like. From the production which is also done by him down to the lyrics, this song is not just hot but also very deep which is one of the things Jesse is known for, deep and intelligent lyrics. The rating of this song will be 10.

With Dirty (ft. Hot Ice) Jesse took hip hop to another level, if you want to point to rap in its finest then Dirty is the song to point too. On this song he features Hot Ice who also brought fire as he spits some pretty hot bars, the rating for this song will be 10.

Best In You is one of the singles that was release before the album dropped and this will have a 9/10.

Alright (ft. Styl Plus) is a song I didn’t see coming at all, I mean big credits to Styl Plus, I never expected such performance from them, for a group that many have written off, they did such a brilliant work and of course Jesse came in and killed the song totally with his hot bars. The rating for this song will be 9/10.

Up next is Wide and Blue and once again Jesse gives us that deep and intelligent flow on another super production and the rating for this will be a 9/10.

To be honest I would say this is probably the weakest song on this album but that is not to say Fine n Clean (ft. Cynthia Morgan) isn’t a dope song but compared to other songs I have listened to so far, this didn’t really stick with me. The rating will be 5/10.

This started more like S** and Scorch but as the instrumentals continue to drop Awake began to sound very different, at this point I have to give credit to Jesse for the production effort that has been put into this album. Awake carries another deep and intelligent flow from Jesse and the rating will be 9/10.

Jesse as a message for every Ghetto Youth and on this one he features Melon r 2 bess and together they gave us another brilliant song. This is another 10 rating song.

Rude Boys Quarters is my favourite song off this album as Jesse gives us some real Jamaican sounds here with a very beautiful production and fire spitting flows. The rating will be 10.

The album ended with another powerful tune called Violation and this features Burna Boy, a collaboration I was really looking forward to and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. This song reminds me of the old school hip hop as Jesse went all out on this track. The rating will be 10.

Once again with this album Jesse Jagz has shown us that he is not our regularly type of rapper or artiste but when he decides to drop an album he goes all out to give us the best of the best with sounds that will stand the test of time.

As expected Jesse took us on very powerful, deep and intelligent journey on this album, he once again prove to us why he is the Greatest and I am sure every fan of Jesse will have their hands full with the album.

Without any doubt this Odysseus will go down as another great album of all time and probably the best rap album for the year 2017. The total rating for this album will be 9.4/10.
