.. years, and after the uprising of the Libyan people, he was killed as he was trying to escape Libya in a convoy when NATO bombed it and he was caught and then killed with bullet wounds to his head and body. Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was labelled as a 'tyrant', a 'terrorist' and a 'dictator', but was he really a bad leader of Libya? Even though there was no democracy in Libya, the facts about Libya and the way it was ruled in the list below, doesn't do any justice to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. The list below may give you some insight into the good side of the the ruling of Libya by Muammar Gaddafi. If it is/was all true, then in the aspect of providing for his people, he doesn't really seem like a bad ruler because if he did provide for his people, then he must have had a good side to him. ........................................................ 1. ELectricity was free for all libyans.. .......................... 2. Loans in Libya are free with 0% interest as banks are state owned.................. 3Homes are considered a human right in Libya – Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi’s father has died while him, his wife and his mother were still living in a tent.................................. 4....All newly married people in Libya receive US$ 50,000 by the government to buy their first home to help the new family........................................... 5.. Medical treatment and education are free in Libya. Before Colonel Muammar Gaddafi ruled the country, only 25% of Libyans were literate. Today the figure is around 83%..................................................................................................... 6. If Libyans wanted to take up farming as a career, the government funded people from equipment to seeds, all for free...................................... 7Petrol price in Libya is around $0.14 per litre. .......................................: 8...... The Libyan government would fund anyone who got a degree and if they could not get Tttjuemployment, and they would receive income as if they were employed until they got a job..................................... 9......A family would get US $5,000 if they had a new... baby to support the childs upbringing. 13. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs around $0.15. 14. 25% of Libyans have a university degree. ............................................................................................... Many people have been wondering what could be the cause of the incessant tyre burst accidents on Nigerian roads everyday. The major cause is that we inflate too much pressure on our tyres. How did I know? I was preparing for a long journey, and decided to changed some of my tyres. When I asked the vulcanizer the recommended Air pressure for the tyres, He said 50. I said alright, he should inflate it to 50 all round. When I got to where I was going, I was discussing with some people on the issue of the minister that died on the road due to a burst tyre and wonder what could have happened, because nobody could imagine a minister would be travelling with expired tyres as many would think is the major cause of tyre bursts. A man (lived in US for many years) said that the major cause of tyre burst in Nigeria is that we inflate too much pressure in our tyres, he reminded us that each car has a specific recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturers. *I was surprised and begged him to come and show me where it’s written on my car. To my greatest surprise, it’s by the drivers door which I enter everyday without noticing it.* By the time we checked, the recommended pressure for my tyres is 32 and I just traveled with tyres on a pressure of 50. He took me round his compound and showed me that of the cars (which includes a jeep and a sienna), and the highest was 32. Some were even 29. READ |

The deep-sea search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 ended on Tuesday without any trace being found of the plane that vanished in 2014 with 239 people on board, the three countries involved in the search said. The location of Flight MH370 has become one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries since the plane, a Boeing 777, disappeared en route to Beijing from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. "Despite every effort using the best science available ... the search has not been able to locate the aircraft," Malaysian, Australian and Chinese authorities said in a statement. "The decision to suspend the underwater search has not been taken lightly nor without sadness." The last search vessel left the area on Tuesday, the three countries said, after scouring the 120,000-sq-km (46,000-sq-mile) area of the Indian Ocean sea floor that has been the focus of the almost-three-year search. Malaysia, Australia and China agreed in July to suspend the $145 million search if the plane was not found, or if new evidence that might offer a clue as to its whereabouts was not uncovered, once that area had been checked. Australia last month dismissed an investigators' recommendation to shift the search further north, saying that no new evidence had emerged to support that. Since the crash there have been competing theories over whether one, both or no pilots were in control, whether it was hijacked - or whether all aboard perished and the plane was not controlled at all when it hit the water. Adding to the mystery, investigators believe someone may have deliberately switched off the plane's transponder before diverting it thousands of miles out over the Indian Ocean. A next-of-kin support group called Voice 370 said in a statement investigators could not leave the matter unsolved. "In our view, extending the search to the new area defined by the experts is an inescapable duty owed to the flying public in the interest of aviation safety," Voice 370 said. |

1. 911 terror attacks (2001) In the worst terror attack on the US mainland in modern history, two hijacked planes slammed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York - where about 40,000 people worked - and a third plane hit the Pentagon, across the Potomac River from Washington DC. Within minutes a fourth hijacked plane crashed 130km southeast of Pittsburgh. Though its destination is unclear, speculation centred on the presidential retreat Camp David, 135km away in the Maryland mountains. The attacks, by 19 Islamic terrorists linked to al- Qaeda, killed 2974 people from over 90 countries. 2. Boxing Day Tsunami (2003) It has been called the world's first global disaster, not because of the number of dead but because the toll touched so many countries who had citizens in the tourist resorts and because of the time of the disaster - Boxing Day. A huge earthquake in the Indian Ocean, west of Sumatra, measuring between 9.1 and 9.3 on the Richter Scale caused an enormous Tsunami, which struck the coastlines of 11 countries including Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka with devastating effect. Over 150,000 people perished in one of the world's deadliest natural disasters with the humanitarian aid bill topping NZ$10b. 3. Bali bombings (2002) The terror attack on October 12, 2002 killed 202 people including three New Zealanders and 88 Australians, confirming terrorism's arrival on Australasia's doorstep. The attack, a car bomb which which ripped through the popular Sari Club and nearby Paddy's Bar, was orchestrated by bombers linked to Jemaah Islamiah, considered al Qaeda's Southeast Asian arm. Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, widely thought to have been one of the masterminds behind the attack, had his conviction for conspiracy quashed in 2003. Imam Samudra, Amrozi Nurhasyim and Mukhlas Nurhasyim were executed on November 8, 2008 for carrying out the attacks. 4. Saddam Hussein's capture (2003) The US and Britain's invasion of Iraq in 2003 was based on the premise that Saddam Hussein possessed "weapons of mass destruction". None were ever found, but the Iraqi dictator was - on December 13 2003 in the small town of Ad-Dawr near Tikrit. Despite being armed with two guns and over US$750,000 (NZ$1.4m) in cash he didn't resist arrest. Hussein was tried before the Iraqi Interim Government for crimes against humanity. He was executed by hanging on December 30 2006. 5. Obama's US election win (2008) On November 5 2008 Barack Obama helped African-Americans break through the ultimate glass ceiling with his election to the White House as the 44th President of the United States. Describing his victory as the "defining moment change has come to America", Obama promised to take America in a new direction, by "fixing the economy", focusing on green job creation and withdrawing US troops from Iraq. He was inaugurated as president on January 21 this year. 6. Beijing Olympics (2008) China exploded into the Western public's mainstream consciousness with the most expensive Games in Olympic history. The opening ceremony alone was reported to have cost an estimated US$100 (NZ$150m). The event showcased China's culture and country to the outside world in a way never seen before, in the process changing some perceptions of the world's largest country for good. Despite concerns over China's human rights record, the event was widely viewed as a tremendous success and went off without disruption. A total of 43 world records were set during the two week extravaganza. 7. London bombings (2005) The London bombings on July 7 2005 were a sobering reminder of the new terrorist threat. Four years after 911 and three years after the first Bali bombings, multiple bomb attacks on the London underground and bus system left 52 dead, including New Zealand woman Shelley Mather, 26, who was on the underground train between King's Cross and Russell Square stations when a bomb exploded. 8. Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair (1998) Former US President Bill Clinton called his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky "a terrible moral error", but later called his subsequent impeachment a "badge of honour". Clinton became just the second US president to be impeached after lying about an affair with 22-year- old White House intern Monica Lewinsky in 1998. Clinton had denied having "sexual relations" with Lewinsky during his deposition for the Paula Jones case, in which he was also accused of having an extra-marital affair. An independent inquiry later found that deposition to be false but Clinton was acquitted on perjury and obstruction of justice charges, and remained President until the end of his second term in 2001 . 9. Hurricane Katrina (2005) Hurricane Katrina became the worst natural disaster in US history when it slammed into New Orleans on August 29 2005. By August 31, 80 per cent of New Orleans was flooded, with some parts under 4.5m of water. Over 1.5 million people were forced from their homes with the official death toll reaching 1464. 10. Pakistan earthquake (2005) On October 8 2005 an earthquake registering 7.7 on the Richter Scale shook the Kashmir region of Pakistan to its foundations. Over 17,000 of the more than 73,000 killed in the quake were children who died in schools destroyed in the quake. About 3 million people were left homeless by the disaster. With the quake occurring at the start of winter, many of the homeless who were living in the open eventually perished in the cold. |
Ondo State government has given a week
ultimatum to all the commercial
motorcycle operators, popularly called
okada riders in the state to register their
motorcycles with the state Ministry of
Transport or be impounded. The government said the need to register
their motorcycles became imperative due
to the high rate of crime and criminality in
the state .
Addressing a joint press conference in

Harrison and the Commissioner
for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade

operate in the state often use motorcycles
to carry out their dastardly acts. While noting that the police command and
the state government have synergized to
ensure that the state is more secured, the

and will also
be prosecuted. Also, she enjoined motorcycle operators in
the state to ensure that they wear their
uniform while on operation to distinguish
them from
other operators. Akinmade while speaking said the state
government has concluded arrangements
with the state Police command and other
security agencies in the state to ensure
proper security of lives and properties of
the people of the state.

Seizures occur when there is an intense burst of electrical activity, which disrupts the normal working of the brain. Epilepsy is a misunderstood condition and people often have misconceptions about it. Here are five things you may not know. 1. Things other than flashing lights can trigger seizures One of the most common misconceptions is the belief that most people with epilepsy will have a seizure as a result of flashing lights. However, only about 4% of people with epilepsy are photosensitive in this way. Seizures can be triggered by things like stress, sleep deprivation, alcohol or missing meals, and, in very rare cases, by listening to certain types of music. But for many people, there are no seizure triggers at all. Furthermore, not all seizures are convulsive. Indeed, there are more than 40 different types of epileptic seizure depending on the area of the brain affected. 2. Epilepsy affects more people than you realise Epilepsy is actually quite common, affecting about 600,000 people in the UK, which works out as being about one in every 100 people, with 87 people diagnosed every day. Globally, about 60 million people have the condition. Furthermore, statistics suggest that one in 50 people will have epilepsy at some point in their life, although not everyone with epilepsy will have it for life. 3. Anyone can get epilepsy at any time Anyone can get epilepsy and it can start at any age. But the risk increases as you get older, with it most common in people over 65. This is because many of the causes of epilepsy are associated with ageing, such as strokes or a brain tumour. Other causes include head injuries and infections like meningitis, while there is also a genetic tendency to have epileptic seizures. There is a risk in children if the brain is not developing properly. However, as many as six in 10 people with epilepsy won't know the cause of their condition. 4. There is ignorance around the effect epilepsy can have on people's lives Beside the seizures, many people with epilepsy will experience feelings of low self-esteem, depression and social isolation, as a result of the condition. The suicide rate among people with epilepsy is 22% greater than in the general population. Being stigmatised, issues with gaining employment and discrimination in the work place can be common for people with epilepsy. As a result, many people are uncomfortable talking about their condition for fear of embarrassment or being judged. 5. People with epilepsy can still drive If you have a driving licence and have a seizure you must stop driving and inform the DVLA. But in some cases, people with epilepsy can be eligible to drive again. There are types of licences that people with epilepsy can apply for, if their seizures have been controlled for a certain period of time and they meet other specific criteria. |
Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, who recently signed a lucrative three-year deal with the ambitious Chinese side, Tianjin Teda, appears settling fast at his new club and he is already proving to me a quality addition. The former Chelsea FC midfielder made his debut for Tianjin TEDA few days ago in their first pre- season game against Borrussia Monchengladbach, and also started in the game against St. Pauli. The Nigeria international and his teammates were no match for their German opponents who ran riot scoring three goals in the opening 26 minute before Mikel pulled a goal back for his side in the 35th minute to bring scores to 3-1. His goal came off a header from a well delivered free kick, which left the goalkeeper of St. Pauli stranded in goal as the ball flew into the net. Having broken the duck this early (in his second game) many are confident that Mikel will surpass the goal-scoring record he had while at Chelsea. Mikel was quoted as saying by Netease Sports; “Of course, I want to stay in a team for a long time, I left Chelsea after eleven years, I hope to stay in TEDA for a long time, not one or two seasons. “If the club will not let me go, I hope to stay until the end of my career, TEDA will be my last stop.” Rate th |
He tried to dab the ball away!' But a senseless handball in his own area gave Liverpool a golden chance from the penalty spot, which James Milner converted with glee. A dying civil servant instructed his wife to bury him with $55,000, which he intended to appease God to forgive his earthly sins. The civil servant, a Ugandan was 52-year-old, when he died. His metallic coffin cost $5,500. Identified as Charles Obong, he was a senior personnel officer at the Ministry of Public Service for a decade (2006 – 2016). His son-in-law confirmed that his will stated that his wife should deposit a huge amount of money in his coffin, which in Ugandan money was 200 million shillings. The money was to be given to God on the Day of Judgment as an offertory so that his sins could be forgiven. Even though the exact sin was not stated, he asked his brother and sister to ensure that his wife does as he instructed. Uganda’s Daily Monitor said that Obong died on December 17, 2016 after a protracted illness and was buried in his ancestral home in the northern Lira district of the country. His will was however ‘violated’ even before his burial. Part of the money he saved for the bribery to God, was stolen from the safe where he kept it and only $5,700 was found in his coffin when it was exhumed. The Monitor quoting a source close to Margaret, Obong’s wife said the huge sum of money disappeared from the safe. The deceased’s brother Justin Ngole said the theft was reported to police. Meanwhile, $5,700 recovered from the coffin after the exhumation of Obong’s body, has been handed to the deceased’s family. Burial is a lavish ceremony in Uganda and it has an official seal. |
Ex-Miss Tourism Nigeria and Special Assistant on Tourism to the Anambra State Government, Collete Nwadike, is solidly behind her fellow beauty queen and former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, who was involved in a scandalous lesbian video recently. Speaking recently on her new series, ‘African Beauty,’ featuring Jide Kosoko and Funky Mallam, Nwadike insisted that Chidinma was never a lesbian, insisting that she was justa victim of circumstances. “Whatever that happened to her could be circumstances, but she was not drugged and it was not her organisation that set her up. Miss Anambra is an organisation I am close to. I know Chidinma well, which explains why her story affected me personally. I feel sorry for her. But being judgmental will not solve the problem.” She lamented that the ugly event was not enough for the public to label beauty queens as lesbians. “Saying that beauty queens are lesbians is a blatant lie. If you tell me beauty queens are lesbians, I would say you are the worst liar. Chindima is not a lesbian, so saying beauty queens are lesbians is not even close to the truth. There is this sisterly bond among queens. When you know the next person to you is also a queen, you like to share things with her. There is nothing more attached to it.” Nwadike opened up that she could have fallen a victim of similar situation if she had not been warned earlier. She narrated, “For every beauty queen, especially on a good platform, you are vulnerable. My organisation (Miss Tourism Nigeria) even warned me beforehand. They told me that people would approach me, that they would claim to be all kinds and they would want to lure me into things by all means. “In my second week after Miss Tourism Nigeria, I got some funny calls and messages. I remember one claiming to be Uti Nwachukwu and said he had a Samsung job for me. They sent an address and expected me to meet with them there. But I called someone who knew Uti to confirm from him and he said he knew nothing about it. There are other incidents I cannot recall now.” Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. Every football fan must know of a great footballer by name Lionel Messi. Messi has accumulated many fans for himself as a result of his skills in football. This great and talented footballer who stands as a role model to many football fans and players has made his way to the top in the field of soccer. Barcelona FC is known to be celebrated today because of this great football titan. Messi’s abilities in the football pitch has made people perplexed and amazed at the way he handles and controls ball in the pitch. His soccer talent is simply unimaginable. He is an excellent genius as far as football is concerned. Messi’s soccer skills made me develop interest in his background and success story. Surely, Messi had his limitations but he strived to overcome them and today, he is the most celebrated, highest paid and world’s best soccer player ever known. Now, let’s take a look at the success story of Lionel Andres Messi: Lionel Andres Messi popularly known as Messi, is a renowned and one of the greatest soccer players of our time. He is also the highest earning footballer in the world. He plays the forward position for FC Barcelona and Argentina national team. Messi was born in the year 1987, June 24 at Rosario, central Argentina. He was born into the family of Mr. Jorge Messi and Mrs. Celia Maria Cuccittin. Messi wasn’t born with a golden spoon in his mouth. He was from a poor family but he was destined for greatness. Messi’s father: Mr. Jorge Messi, was a factory steel worker while his Mother: Mrs. Maria Cuccittin, worked as a part time cleaner. His parents were not financially buoyant but they were excellent at parenting. Despite their financial challenges, Mr. Jorge Messi was determined to bring out the best in his children. He was a man who could see his children’s future as a shining star that will never set. He trained his children to embrace their talents and make a living out of it. “A man’s gift maketh way for him.” Mr. Messi continuously encouraged his children to discover their talents at their tender age. In the process of rendering his parental duty, he discovered Lionel Messi’s talent in soccer and decided to help Messi develop his talent. At a tender age of five, Messi started playing ball for Grandoli: a local football team club coached by his father. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell’s old boys where he became part of a local youth powerhouse. At his tender age, Messi was popularly known as “the machine of 87”. At the age of 11, Messi encountered one of his greatest life-challenges; he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency which restricted his growth. He was the shortest player in his team- among his age grades, but that didn’t discourage Messi. Even in the midst of challenges, he strived to survive. Messi’s talent in soccer was so irresistible that football clubs started showing interest in Him. Argentina’s River plate FC showed interest in Messi’s talent and was willing to sign him in as their player but the deal was fruitless because they lacked the fund to sponsor Messi’s medical bill which costs $900 per month. Messi was rejected by this club because of his health condition. What can be more discouraging than this? Yet, Messi never gave up. Messi’s optimism rewarded him at the age of 13, when the sporting director of FC Barcelona: Carlex Rexach, was made aware of messi’s talent in soccer. Carlex discovered that Messi was greatly talented and decided to invest in him. He offered Messi a contract written on a napkin paper and also, offered to sponsor Messi’s medical bills with the condition that Messi relocates to spain. What a great offer? “A man’s gift maketh way for him.” Messi and his father moved to spain where Messi was enrolled into the club’s youth Academy-known for training and producing excellent footballers. Messi was determined to judiciously utilize the opportunity given to him. So, he trained vigorously well and proved himself worthy which made him have his first appearance for Barcelona at the age of 16. In may 2005, He broke record as the youngest player to ever score a goal. In 2009, Messi led Barcelona to success. Barca became the first spanish club to ever capture the “treble”- winning the copa del Ray, La liga and champions league tournament. After scoring 49 goals in the 2009 season, his manager said, “Messi is the best player he had ever seen.” Messi’s skills in soccer made a prominent footballer; Maradona say, “I can see myself in him.” I agree with the fact that Messi is a great, successful and highly talented footballer. Have you ever noticed the confidence in people whenever the ball rolls into Messi’s multi- million dollars legs? You hear things like “Messi will score a goal now” or “A goal is on the way” or “yes! I trust Messi.” That is to show the level of confidence Messi has made people develop in him. At the age of 25, Messi became the youngest player to score 200 la liga goals. Messi is widely recognized as the best player in the world and rated as the greatest footballer of all times. He broke record by being the first soccer player to win four FIFA/ Ballon d’or world’s player of the year award consecutively. He was also the first to win three European Golden shoe awards. On 16th Feb, 2013, Messi scored his 300th Barcelona goal. Till today, Messi remains the highest goal scorer ever known. In the year 2011, Messi’s net worth was estimated at $110 million by forbes. On 18th September, Messi signed a new contract with Barca running till 2016 and with a buy out clause of £250 million included. As at Dec. 2012, Messi’s base salary was raised to $21.2million after an annoncement of the 5year contract extension signed by Messi which will keep him at FC Barcelona until 2018 with his buy out clause still at £250 million. It is pertinent you know that Messi is not just a talented and successful footballer but also a great philanthropist. His love for children made him to launch Leo Messi’s foundation in 2007. His foundation was established to support the education and health care of vulnerable children. In 2010, Lionel Messi was also named a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. There are many lessons to learn from the success story of this great footballer. A man now celebrated and recognized for his outstanding talent. Despite his limitations: his financial background, his health condition, rejection, physical limitation, and so on, he was still determined to make great use of his inherent ability. Today, the world has overlooked its limitations and all they can see is his success. LIONEL’S SUCCESS PRINCIPLES: 1) Self-discovery 2) Determination 3) Perseverance 4) Personal development of his talent 5) Optimism 6) Dedication and Focus 7) Self-confidence Self-belief 9) Love for humanity 10) His act of charity Dear readers, thanks for reading this inspiring article.Lillian encourages you all to continue striving towards success. Never give up on your journey to greatness. Just like Messi, we are all destined for Greatness; never settle for anything less. |
