Health / Move More To Live Longer by Haleplushearty: 12:47pm On Apr 13, 2019
Improving fitness doesn’t require doing activities you don’t like. That’s the main message of research presented today at EuroPrevent 2019. The largest study to date of cardiorespiratory fitness in healthy people found that moving more is linked to living longer, regardless of age, sex, and starting fitness level.

“People think they have to start going to the gym and exercising hard to get fitter,” said study author Dr Elin Ekblom-Bak, of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences in Stockholm. “But it doesn’t have to be that complicated. For most people, just being more active in daily life — taking the stairs, exiting the metro a station early, cycling to work — is enough to benefit health since levels are so low to start with. The more you do, the better.”

The study included 316,137 adults aged 18-74 years who had their first occupational health screening between ...

Health / Remaining Healthy With A Weak Immune System by Haleplushearty: 1:27pm On Apr 11, 2019
White blood cells, antibodies, and other components, including organs and lymph nodes, make up the body’s immune system. Many disorders can weaken the immune system and cause a person to become immunocompromised. These immunodeficiency disorders, which range from mild to severe, can be present from birth or may occur as a result of environmental factors. They include:

HIV
certain types of cancer
malnutrition
viral hepatitis
some medical treatments
Sometimes, an immunodeficiency disorder can be so mild that a person may not be aware of it for years. Other times, the disorder is more severe and causes a person to experience frequent infections throughout their...

Health / New Technique To Test For Viral Infections by Haleplushearty: 5:55pm On Apr 09, 2019
A team of Colorado State University researchers has developed technology that can detect extremely small amounts of antibodies in a person’s blood. Antibodies develop to infect cells or kill pathogens, essentially fighting off a bacteria or virus. The levels of antibodies in the blood can tell whether that person is sick.

Using a small wire that is one-fourth the size of a human hair, the researchers developed a sensor that can detect as few as 10 antibody molecules within 20 minutes. Standard medical testing requires billions or trillions of antibody molecules for detection and can take up to a day to process.

This type of cost-effective instrument could help clinicians treat diseases sooner in people and could be used in...

Health / Can Scientists ‘hack’ Memory? by Haleplushearty: 6:08pm On Apr 06, 2019
Is it possible to manipulate memory formation and consolidation? And why would we want to do it? Our memories make up so much of who we are, and the things we remember can often define our experience of the world.

And while positive memories can help us grow and thrive, negative memories do not always have such welcome effects. Sometimes, unpleasant memories can be part of a learning curve, getting scalded with boiling water means that next time we will be more careful when handling the kettle.

However, there are also memories that are truly traumatic, and recalling them can lead to distress and serious mental healthconditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The study of memory formation, recall, and forgetting attracts a lot of attention and curiosity among neuroscientists, psychologists, and...

MESSAGE OF SALVATION
Luke 7:36-48
A woman followed steps that can make her swim in glory, she made up her mind not to die a sinner and made contact with Jesus Christ. Some of us are known sinners, no matter how terrible your sin may be you can still shine for God. Give your life to Jesus.

Every child here tonight will be greater than their parents, Joseph is a classical example of someone born to shine, he shared his dream with brothers. Every enemies of your destiny shall be subdued. Genesis 37 20 His brother planned to kill. Everyone trying to kill your dream shall help you to fulfill it.
It does not matter what the enemies may try, if you are born to shine the counsel of God shall stand. Gen 37-23-28

YOU WILL SHINE BECAUSE:
1. there is no pit so deep that is beyond the everlasting arms.2. God knows the end from the beginning. Act 15-18, Deuteronomy 33-27, Psalms 23:1-3
3. God will not allow them to bury you alive. Numbers 16:25-33
As long as you are still breathing you will come out of the pit, you will come out tonight by shouting a very big JESUS. Ecclesiastes 9-4 If you know you are born to shine shout JESUS.
Genesis 39:1-6 Joseph was sold to slavery and he began to shine, John 8:32-36, Matthew 6:24. If you are serving Jesus you are not a slave. Corinthians 6:19-20. Anyone trying to keep you in slavery will have to deal with your master that has a name that is above every other name. Shout JESUS if you want high power to deliver you from captives. If you belong to Christ no one can keep you in prison because their is no door that can hinder The Door. John 14:6, Act 16-25-40.

Joseph's promotion began in the prison, your promotion begins today. Genesis 41:1-44 The one that God will use to fulfill your destiny will dream tonight, Proverbs 21:1. To shine means to excel, to be the best. Daniel 6:1-3. The greatest thing for Christians is that we are going to shine before the King of kings Matthew 25, Proverbs 4-18, Daniel 12:3. Keep on winning souls to shine. Proverbs 11:30.

WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE
1.The Lord asked me to tell someone that the happening around you is to make your foundation deeper so that your tower can go higher.

TOPIC:   SWIMMING IN GLORY 4 - BORN TO SHINE

TEXT:     MATTHEW 25 :1-13

BY:         PASTOR E.A.  ADEBOYE

SONG
Immortal God, Invisible God, Immortal God, How Great thou are ...

King of kings and Lord of Lords, we worship You,

Thank You for what you did in January, February, and March,

Thank You for bringing us the second quarter of this year,

Accept our thanks in Jesus name,

As we gather together to dine with You tonight, be present in our midst,

As we partake of the symbol of Your body and blood heal us in Jesus name,

Empower us and give us the grace to begin to shine for you.

In Jesus mighty name we have prayed.

Let someone shout hallelujah

Shake hands with one or two people and say - Good evening, God bless you.

As long as their is oil in the lamp,it shines and keeps burning and the light keeps burning as long as their is fuel in the tank the engine of the car will keep running, as long as their is fuel in the generator it will continue to produce electricity. But when the oil is out, the shinning ceases, because then the light will go out.

I pray for you tonight that your light will not go out.

To keep on shinning you must learn from these virgins, whenever the oil is running out from the lamp we must refill, if you want to shine for long you must constantly refill. Ephesian 5:18 Keep filling with the Holy Spirit, keep on refiling your tank. When you know that the journey is long, then make sure that you have enough fuel or refueling station on the way.

If you are traveling from Lagos to Ilorin You need to be sure that there is no fuel scarcity on the way, you need to keep on refilling. The race of life is not a sprint but a marathon. Hebrews 12:1 Run with patience the race that is set before us. The race of life is a marathon that is why we refill every month at the Holy communion service to recharge our spiritual battery because the journey is long. My prayer for everyone of you who will be partaking in the holy communion of tonight is that you will finish well and strong in Jesus name.

Holy communion is for the body of Christ, it is for those that have become part and parcel of Him.

By His stripes you were healed. When we take the bread and broke it we partake of the body of Christ by faith
The stripe of Jesus Christ will not be in vain for you.

When you take the bread, pray- God, Dont let your stripe be in vain in my life, let it bring healing to me.

When you take the wine, pray- Lord, please, refill my lamp and keep me shinning for you till the very end.

You will forever shine for him,

He will keep on refilling you,
Your light will not go off,
You will be shinning till you see Him in glory

The almighty God will accept, bless and sanctify your offering and use it for His glory,

And your pocket will never be empty,

He will just keep on refilling you,

And as you go, He will go with you,

Before you return tomorrow you will have testimonies,

So shall it be,

In Jesus mighty name we have prayed

***Tomorrow will be a glorious night, bring your children for anointing.

Health / Globally, One In Five Deaths Are Associated With Poor Diet by Haleplushearty: 10:29am On Apr 04, 2019
People in almost every region of the world could benefit from rebalancing their diets to eat optimal amounts of various foods and nutrients, according to the Global Burden of Disease study tracking trends in consumption of 15 dietary factors from 1990 to 2017 in 195 countries, published in The Lancet.

The study estimates that one in five deaths globally — equivalent to 11 million deaths — are associated with poor diet, and diet contributes to a range of chronic diseases in people around the world. In 2017, more deaths were caused by diets with too low amounts of foods such as whole grains, fruit, nuts and seeds than by diets with high levels of foods like trans fats, sugary drinks, and high levels of red and processed meats.

The authors say that their findings highlight the urgent need for coordinated global efforts to improve diet, through collaboration with various sections of the food system and policies that drive balanced diets.

“This study affirms what many have thought for...

Health / Vegans Have A ‘healthier Biomarker Profile’ by Haleplushearty: 5:54pm On Apr 03, 2019
After testing a range of diets, researchers conclude that vegan and vegetarian diets produce the healthiest levels of diet-related biomarkers. Scientists are steadily unpicking how plant-based diets can improve health. It is clear that there are many factors involved.

One obvious place to start is that vegetarians and vegans do not eat red meat or processed meat products, both of which experts consider to increase the risk of cancer. As well as choosing not to eat meat, people who follow a plant-based diet also tend to consume more vegetables, fruits, and nuts. With this increase in plant matter comes a similar increase in nutrients, fiber, and other potentially beneficial compounds.

Vegetarians and vegans also typically have higher levels of compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, such as carotenoids and flavonoids, in their bodies. According to the team behind the new study, these chemicals protect against cell damage and chronic diseases.

Also, vegetarians are likely to have higher levels of lignans and...

Health / Eating Dark Chocolate Lowers Blood Pressure by Haleplushearty: 9:29am On Apr 03, 2019
Eating just a few squares of dark chocolate every day lowers blood pressure in just one month, a study suggests. While milk chocolate has its benefits, 90 per cent cocoa was found to have the strongest effect.

Researchers in Portugal believe this is due to dark chocolate being richer in the powerful antioxidant flavanols. The research was carried out by the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and led by Dr Telmo Pereira. The benefits of chocolate have been extensively studied, particularly when it comes to our heart health.

Flavanols have been linked to everything from reduced insulin resistance to weight regulation and even faster wound healing. There is therefore a huge amount of scientific interest in how eating flavanol-rich foods many influence our wellbeing.
To determine how chocolate affects our heart, the researchers had 30 healthy adults – aged 18-to-27 – eat 20g of the sweet treat every day for 30 days. Half of the participants had 55 per cent cocoa chocolate,...

Health / Bacteria Partners With Virus To Cause Chronic Wounds by Haleplushearty: 11:52am On Mar 30, 2019
A common bacterial pathogen called Pseudomonas aeruginosa produces a virus that substantially increases the pathogen’s ability to infect us, according to a study by investigators at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

P. aeruginosa weaponizes its resident virus to exploit the immune system’s distinct responses to bacterial versus viral infections.

This marks the first time a bacteria-infecting virus, otherwise known as a bacteriophage or just phage, has been observed inducing the immune system to mount an antiviral response and, in doing so, causing it to ignore the bacterial infection.

When the scientists generated a vaccine directed at the virus, they showed that it dramatically lowered the bacteria’s ability to infect wounds in...

Health / When Does It Become Morally Wrong To Engineer Your Children Genetically by Haleplushearty: 6:38pm On Mar 29, 2019
All parents want their children to be not only healthy but also better than them in many ways. Can genetic engineering help them achieve that?

Gene manipulation has made colossal strides over the last decades. Scientists claim that genetic engineering of children has practically become a reality today. Many of them are expected to publish the results of their experiments describing various methods of genetic modification as early as this year.

The subject is a gold mine for journalists and professional writers for hire. The former are on the edge of their seats in anticipation of a new breakthrough, and the latter use the latest information to craft captivating blog posts for various resources.

Currently, advanced genetic editing methods allow for the replacement of flawed DNA fragments with genetically edited ones. It has been experimentally proven that the human genome modification can cure various diseases, such as HIV, hemophilia, anemia, some forms of cancer, and other...

Health / Musical Training May Improve Attention by Haleplushearty: 1:47pm On Mar 28, 2019
New research finds that people who have had musical training are better at controlling their attention and blocking out distractions. Some studies have suggested that musical training improves blood flow in brain areas involved in language processing. More recent research has shown that listening to music may even “motivate” the brain to learn by stimulating neural networks associated with reward processing.

Now, a new study suggests that musical training may also have an effect on attentional control. Researchers led by Paulo Barraza, Ph.D. — from the Center for Advanced Research in Education at the University of Chile in Santiago — examined the link between musical training and attention.Barraza and colleagues explain that the brain’s attentional system consists of three subsystems, each with...

Health / Changes In Brain Energy Pathways May Cause Depression by Haleplushearty: 6:15pm On Mar 27, 2019
Scientists repurposed an accessible bioinformatics tool to find DNA mutations, some of which occur at high levels in people with major depressive disorder. The World Health Organization (WHO) describe depression as “the leading cause of disability worldwide.” It affects more than 300 million people around the world.

Experts believe that many factors contribute to major depressive disorder (MDD). These include genetics, environmental factors including abuse, brain physiology, and the immune system. One theory is that disturbances in energy metabolism in the brain may contribute to a person developing MDD.Mitochondria, the so-called powerhouses of the cell, are specialized compartments that convert the food we eat into the chemical energy that our cells require to function. Each cell has many mitochondria to ensure a smooth supply of energy.

If we reduce their number or disrupt the intricate metabolic pathways, cells may die due to energy starvation. In a paper published recently in the journal Nucleic Acid Research, scientists used bioinformatic tools to identify large mutations in the mitochondria’s genetic...

Health / When To Consume Protein by Haleplushearty: 10:25am On Mar 26, 2019
Consuming protein is necessary for muscle growth and repair. There is no single best time for this, but rather it depends on individual goals. There are some evidences that consuming protein can help a person lose weight and that it can help people build muscle mass if they also exercise.

However, research, as yet, does not make it unclear when is the best time to have protein. It is also unclear if there is any best time at all, why this is the case, or whether it is the case for everyone. Most people in the United States get enough protein in their diet. Still, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) say many people should vary the types of food containing protein that they eat.

If a person is trying to build muscle mass, they may also take protein in the form of supplements to help them build muscle...

Health / Gene Therapy Shows Initial Promise For Parkinson’s Disease by Haleplushearty: 8:49am On Mar 23, 2019
A delicate operation that involved placing a gene into the brain was found to reduce the severity of motor symptoms in patients with moderately advanced Parkinson’s disease, whose symptoms were no longer controlled by their medications.

In a phase I gene therapy trial led by UC San Francisco, 15 patients were able to acquire up to three hours daily of extra “on-time” – the period in which their medication was effective without causing the involuntary muscle movements known as dyskinesia, a frequent side effect of longer-term medication use.

[img][/img]Additionally, patients were able to decrease their Parkinson’s medication by up to 42 percent, depending on the amount of the brain that was infused and the dose of therapy.

Health / Lowering Blood Pressure With Napping by Haleplushearty: 9:29am On Mar 13, 2019
A new study that investigators from the Asklepieion General Hospital in Voula, Greece conducted now suggests that taking a nap at midday can effectively help people lower their blood pressure levels. One of the study researchers, Dr. Manolis Kallistratos, is due to present the findings at the American College of Cardiology’s 68th Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans, LA next Monday.

“Midday sleep lowers blood pressure levels at the same magnitude as other lifestyle changes. For example, salt and alcohol reduction can bring blood pressure levels down by 3 to 5 [millimeters of mercury (mmHg)],” reports Dr. Kallistratos. In this study, the investigators worked with 212 participants who had a mean blood pressure of 129.9 mm Hg.

According to guidelines from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a person has high blood pressure if their readings of systolic blood pressure (pressure during a heartbeat) are 140 mm Hg or higher, and their readings of diastolic blood pressure (pressure between heartbeats) are 90 mm Hg or higher. The participants were, on average, 62 years old, and close to one in four of them smoked, had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, or...

Health / Improving Athletic Performance With Mediterranean Diet by Haleplushearty: 10:19am On Mar 12, 2019
The Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and olive oil, and allows moderate consumption of fish, dairy, and red wine contains various compounds that boost athletic performance. Foods in the Mediterranean diet contain antioxidants and nitrates and have anti-inflammatory and alkalizing properties. Sticking to this diet improve endurance and exercise performance.

A team of researchers at Saint Louis University (SLU) in Missouri also wondered about this and set out to investigate. Edward Weiss, Ph.D., who is a professor of nutrition and dietetics at SLU led the new study.Prof. Weiss and colleagues recruited seven women and four men who were “recreationally active.” After 4 days of following the predominantly plant-based diet, the researchers asked the participants to run 5 kilometers (km) on a treadmill.

Nine to 16 days later, the researchers asked the same participants to follow a Western diet for another 4 days and take the 5 km treadmill test again. A Western diet is typically “characterized by an overconsumption and reduced variety of refined sugars, salt, and saturated fat. “The researchers also wanted to test the effects that these two diets would have on anaerobic, or muscle-strengthening exercise. So, they asked the participants to take a cycle test, a vertical jump test, and a handgrip test at the same time points throughout the...

Health / Why Do We Sleep? by Haleplushearty: 11:06am On Mar 08, 2019
A new study by scientists at the Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel, has unearthed a key factor that may lie at the center of sleep’s indispensability: its restorative effect on individual brain cells.

The team, which Prof. Lior Appelbaum led, reports its new findings in a study paper that appears in the journal Nature Communications. In this study, the investigators turned to zebrafish, which scientists often use in research because they are surprisingly similar to humans.

Approximately 70 percent of human genes also occur in this freshwater species. Using 3D time-lapse imaging, the scientists looked at the effects of sleep on a microscale and observed how it affected single neurons, or brain cells.

The high-resolution technology allowed Prof. Applebaum and team to follow the movement of DNA and proteins within brain cells. They found that during sleep, individual neurons were...

Health / ‘Game Changer’ In Treatment Of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia by Haleplushearty: 8:56pm On Mar 07, 2019
The Cardiff researchers say that the test could now be a ‘game changer’ in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). It also has the potential to change how other cancers, including myeloma and breast cancer, are treated. While previous versions of the test had taken a week to process, results can now be ready in a day.

The research, which was funded by the blood cancer research charity Bloodwise, is published the journal Leukemia.CLL is a slowly developing blood cancer in which patients produce mutated versions of white blood cells that build up in the blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes and crowd out healthy blood cells.

CLL progresses at different rates in different people and never progresses at all in a third of patients. Until now there has been no accurate test that can be used to indicate whether and how fast individual patients’ cancer will...

There are different ways smartwatches can save your life and those of your loved ones, This will range from taking vital biometric data and giving you tips for living healthy to sending help notifications to your loved ones in case the watch detects that you are in trouble.

Additionally, they are portable and highly efficient; for instance, as opposed to medical equipment that only captures health data at the instant you visit the hospital, a smartwatch is capable of doing the same round the clock even when you are asleep.

Health data collected this way will bring a true depiction of your overall health thereby making it very easy for your physician to give an accurate diagnosis...

Health / Effects Of Genetics And Parenting On Behaviour by Haleplushearty: 4:27pm On Feb 27, 2019
A new study by Pennsylvania State University in State College, the University of Oregon in Eugene, and Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, followed sets of siblings in an effort to better understand whether our moral compass is solely down to our upbringing, or whether our genetic inheritance also has a say in the matter.

Amanda Ramos from Penn State University, refers to a person’s moral qualities as their “virtuous character” and explains that both nurture and nature could work together to shape them. A lot of studies have shown a link between parenting and these virtuous traits, but they haven’t looked at the genetic component.

Researchers conducted a study investigating the extent to which...

Health / Link Between Vitamin D And Brain Health by Haleplushearty: 3:53pm On Feb 26, 2019
New research finds that vitamin D deficiency affects a type of brain “scaffolding” that supports the neurons. This finding could lead to new therapies for the neurological symptoms of mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.

For instance, research has suggested that insufficient vitamin D may compromise the immune system, raise the risk of hypertension, and negatively affect insulin secretion in people with type 2 diabetes. Newer studies have focused on the potential link between vitamin D and brain health.

A recent study that reported on reinforced the notion that there may be an association between vitamin D deficiency and a higher risk of schizophrenia. Other studies have shown that depriving middle-aged rodents of vitamin D led them to develop brain damage and perform less well on cognitive tests.

Researchers have also found that people who survive sudden cardiac arrest are less likely to recover brain function if they have low levels of vitamin D.
A new study delves deeper into this link between vitamin D...

Health / 4 Technologies That Are Changing Healthcare Delivery by Haleplushearty: 10:24am On Feb 25, 2019
According to researchers, the number of IT personnel required in the medical field is likely to increase by 21%. There seems to be a huge demand for innovative and computer-savvy individuals in health care. Medical professionals have discovered that technology can complement what they do or even make their work easier. Below are some of the revolutionary innovations that are changing health care delivery:

New Technologies in Healthcare

1. Chip Organs

Before a drug is approved by the FDA for human consumption, it has to undergo numerous tests and trials on rodents – which is the most preferred animal for testing. For example, it has to go through in vivo trials, and then go through 4 phases of testing. By the time the product is ready for launch, many animals have died in the testing, and the company has used millions of dollars. Furthermore, patients in need of such a cure are left waiting, worsening their condition. The good news is that scientists have come up with organs on a chip to speed up the testing. These artificial organs mimic the same ones found in humans, eliminating the need for animal subjects.

2. 3D Organs

Thanks to 3D technology, amputees can quickly get organ replacements. The 3D printer takes a short time to create the organ for the patient, speeding up its installation. Already, this process is being used in many different ways such as, creating drugs by pharmaceutical companies, how doctors may plan for certain procedures, and of course, medical implants. Ultimately,...

Health / Chemical Added To Consumer Products Impairs Response To Antibiotic Treatment by Haleplushearty: 9:14am On Feb 22, 2019
Grocery store aisles are stocked with products that promise to kill bacteria. People snap up those items to protect themselves from the germs that make them sick. However, new research from Washington University in St. Louis finds that a chemical that is supposed to kill bacteria is actually making them stronger and more capable of surviving antibiotic treatment.

The study suggests that triclosan exposure may inadvertently drive bacteria into a state in which they are able to tolerate normally lethal concentrations of antibiotics — including those antibiotics that are commonly used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Triclosan is the active ingredient responsible for the “antibacterial” property marketed on many consumer products. It is added to toothpaste, mouthwash, cosmetics and even to clothing, baby toys and credit cards with the intention of reducing or preventing bacterial growth.

“In order to effectively kill bacterial cells, triclosan is added to products at high concentrations,” said...

Health / Smoking Prevents Immune System From Fighting Cancer by Haleplushearty: 3:03pm On Feb 18, 2019
Smokers and former smokers are 40 per cent less likely to survive the disease ten years after diagnosis than those who have never smoked. A connection between smoking and the bodies response to melanoma, most commonly caused by exposure to the sun, has not been previously found.

The immune response of smokers appears to work, but is less effective, researchers at the University of Leeds said. This research suggests that smoking might disrupt how it works together in tune, allowing the musicians to continue playing but possibly in a more disorganised way.’The study used data from more than 700 patients with melanoma, which takes the lives of 2,000 in the UK every year, and 9,000 in the US.

The research, published in the journal Cancer Research, found that people who have smoked have a 40 per cent lower survival rate. People who had any history of smoking were found to be at greater risk of dying of melanoma – they do not have to be smokers at the time of their...

Health / Popcorn And Caramel Vapes Raise The Risk Of Respiratory Diseases by Haleplushearty: 11:24am On Feb 02, 2019
Two of the most popular e-cigarettes flavors are so damaging to cells they could destroy the lung function of vapers, a Harvard study warns. Popcorn and caramel – two widely used e-liquids – contain chemicals that wear down the lungs’ first line of defense.

Those who use these flavors may be more susceptible to lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Scientists at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health found the chemicals diacetyl and 2,3-pentandione may impair the function of cilia in the human airway.

Cilia are antennae-like protuberances that are present on 50 to 75 percent of the cells that line human airways. They play a key role in keeping the human airway clear of mucus and dirt and allow people to breathe easily and without irritation.

The study looked at the impact of flavouring chemicals in human epithelial cells, which are the type that line the lungs. Food processing workers are warned not to inhale the chemical flavors because they have been linked to ‘popcorn lung’ lung disease vapers are not.

Associate professor of environmental genetics and pathophysiology Quan Lu said: ‘Although chemicals used to flavor e-cigarettes are frequently used, little has been known about the mechanism of how they impact health.

The study suggests that these chemicals may be harming...

Health / Sleep Is The Best Painkiller by Haleplushearty: 10:54am On Jan 29, 2019
The effects of sleep deprivation on the brain are numerous, from inducing an inebriation-like state of cognitive impairment to hindering our ability to learn and form new memories. New research highlights another neurological effect of insufficient sleep: heightened sensitivity to pain.

A lack of sleep impairs the brain’s natural mechanisms for relieving pain, finds the new study, which draws attention to potential links between the public health crises of sleep deprivation, chronic pain, and prescription opioid addiction.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that, on average, around 130 people in the...

Health / How To Stop Craving For Unhealthful Food by Haleplushearty: 1:56pm On Jan 28, 2019
Researchers from the marketing department at the University of South Florida in Tampa are interested in odors.

In recent years, ambient odors have become one of the tools that businesses use to attract customers and influence their behavior.

Food companies and restaurants, unsurprisingly, use the smell of delicious food to tempt people into their establishments. However, the use of ambient aromas goes beyond selling food items. For instance, the Samsung flagship store in New York pumps in the aroma of honeydew...

Health / Do Not Put Parsley Or Other Vegetables In Your Vagina by Haleplushearty: 1:40pm On Jan 18, 2019
Doctors are warning women to not take the ‘irresponsible’ advice of putting parsley in their vagina to kick-start their period. The bizarre suggestion was made by women’s magazine Marie Claire alongside other recommendations using food, drink and exercise.

Women may want to make their period come sooner as a means of controlling their cycle ahead of a holiday or special event. According to the article, parsley is an emmenagogue – a substance that increases menstrual flow – which can ‘soften the cervix and level out hormonal imbalances’.
But doctors have now urged women to never insert vegetables into the vagina, as it could lead to health risks – including potentially death...
