More specifically, when loyal customers earn points, they can get rewarded in three ways; airline tickets, cash and all-expense paid future stays at the hotel. “We created morewardz club to solve three client problems; how to acquire and retain customers, how to influence customer spending and how to get customers to spend more with them”, he says. https://venturesafrica.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/slim-17-of-50.jpg |

How do self-made stars like these become famous around the world? And are they taking over from traditional celebrities? Tubular Labs has created a list of the top 10 most influential UK creators for the BBC. At the very top is Olajide "JJ" Olatunji, who dropped out of college, but has made $4.5m (£2.9m) in the past year, according to a Forbes list of the world's highest-paid YouTube stars. The 22-year-old, from Watford, has more than 10 million subscribers on his KSI YouTube channel and a "social reach" of 17.4 million when other social media platforms are taken into account. He is best known for filming himself playing computer games while commentating on them, but he also makes comedy videos and more typical vlogs. His vlogs include one where he decided to dye his hair blond and another in which he filmed himself for a week to give his viewers a chance to see what he does when he's not posting YouTube videos. KSI's brother Deji Olatunji, known as ComedyShortsGamer, is in second place on the list. His videos appear to concentrate more on comedy than gaming, with one of his most popular being a prank where he told his mother he had made a girl pregnant. Yoruba Nigeria’s former tech minister is now a venture capitalist London-based venture capital firm, TLcom, has appointed Omobola Johnson, Nigeria’s former minister of communications and technology, as lead partner as it kicks off its West African operations. The venture firm, which opened its first Africa office in Nairobi two years ago, is looking to raise up to $100 million for investment in African start-ups through its TLcom TIDE (Technology and Innovation for Developing Economies) Africa Fund. The focus of the investments, which could range from $500,000 to $10 million, will be on e-commerce, energy, health and education technology startups which have a potential for fast growth. In Johnson’s four years in government, the tech ecosystem in Nigeria grew fast and she was keen to encourage and enable the growth of local start-ups. One of her lasting legacies was launching Idea Nigeria, an incubation hub in the heart of Yaba—the epicenter of the tech ecosystem in Lagos. Since leaving office after the March/April elections, Johnson has remained on the public radar and earlier this month, she was announced as Honorary Chairperson of Alliance for Affordable Internet. Maurizio Caio, TLcom founder, says the focus for the Africa Fund will immediately be on start-ups with high returns potential. “For this cycle we need to be very merciless in focusing on the highest potential entrepreneurs—to make a point and to demonstrate that high returns are possible.” TLcom’s aggressive expansion in search of more tech opportunities in Africa could be a signal fears of investing in African tech companies and achieving profitable exits is abating. Caio says the bigger issue is identifying start-ups with real potential. “If you have a good company, you can exit. It is a not an exit problem—it is a quality of company problem.” https://elendureports.com/n/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Mrs.-Omobola-Johnson-Sept.jpg |

Yoruba Virgos lounge In my opinion, there’s nothing more rewarding than doing what you absolutely love and are passionate about. A few years ago, three fashion savy, vintage loving Virgos; Oyeyemi Wemi- Akinsola, Adenike Ajanaku & Fioye Akinsola got together and started a blog (www.virgosloungeblogspot.com), where they talked fashion, vintage clothing and let us in on their stylish wardrobes which consisted of more than a few vintage items. Their blog had a refreshing take on fashion, and their love and use of vintage styling in their personal wardrobes got the fashion audience interested in these three Virgos. Fast forward to 2011 and Virgos Lounge is much more than a blog. Their love for all things vintage has grown into an entrepreneurial vision, as they have established an online vintage store which aims to supply classic vintage pieces. When they started, the vision for virgoslounge.com was to create a platform to sell specially sourced vintage items, with some altered to give a modern and fashionable twist. However, as their business grew, so did their vision for it. Now not only do they source for vintage clothes, they also design their own vintage inspired pieces. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5316e8e9e4b04f773bf87199/55d5b964e4b01db9e42cf37e/55d5b97be4b0239f4fce6193/1441197332323/london-wedding-photographer-nigerian-montecalm-stbartholemew-plaisterers-32.jpg?format=750w https://www.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Virgos-Lounge-Bridesmaids-Dresses_BellaNaija-4.jpg |

We plan on expanding to Ghana, Tanzania, Congo, Ethiopia, Botswana and more African countries where we are currently doing some market analysis. We also have great affiliate/reseller programmes that help with our in-country expansions. Allowing people on the ground and in-country become part of our family and growth story. Finally, you have certainly become an important role model for Africans, in particular those in the diaspora who want to do business and worry about lacking start-up capital, the risks, or even relocation. What is your advice to them? You can’t succeed if you don’t start. Start your idea with friends and family being your focus group. Also make sure the market is in need of your product and then push ahead. In Africa it’s key to have connections in place. Make sure you build them. Have a great marketing plan. The American or British marketing plans will not work in Africa. You need an African marketing plan. Always seek advice and mentorship from those in the country you wish to serve. Take the company as far as you can with your proof of concept, then seek investor start-up capital, as I have done. The further you can take the idea yourself the easier it will get funded – and the more fundable you will become for investors. It’s a journey worth taking because you contribute towards Africa’s success while building your own – and that’s a journey filled with joy. https://www.howwemadeitinafrica.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Chris-Folayan-600x300.jpg |
