ANOTHER twin explosion yesterday rocked Buguma, headquarters of Asaritoru Local Government Area, causing panic and tension.
The incident occurred in the evening during the inauguration of Asaritoru local government wing of Save Rivers Movement, at the Kalabari National College, KNC, premises.
When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said he was not aware of the development.
It will be recalled that last week, explosives were hurled at the state deputy governor’s wing of Government House, Port Harcourt, a development that reportedly shattered the windscreen of some vehicles.
Barely twenty four hours after the incident at the deputy governor’s office, another explosion was reported at the official car park of Justice C. Wali in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
This incident came barely 48 hours after Justice Wali delivered a verdict stopping a member of the state House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, from parading as speaker of the state House of Assembly.
Yesterday’s twin explosion at the KNC premises did not abort the inauguration of the Save Rivers Movement in the local government as it still went on smoothly after the panic generated by the incident had died down.
State Chairman of the SRM, Mr. Charles Ahonu, said the body would align with the All Progressives Congress, APC, describing it as the only party that could lead the state out of the woods.
He said they were in the local government to inaugurate the wing of the SRM, adding that they were convinced in the ability of the APC to take the state to greater heights.
Interim chairman of the state chapter of the APC, Davies Ikanya, said Kalabari people had dumped the PDP for the APC in the state.
Ikanya, who was chairman of the event, said the APC had also swept all parts of the state.
He said the mother of all rallies of the APC would hold in the state today at the Liberation stadium, Port Harcourt.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, members of the National Assembly in the party, the state legislators are among those he said would be in attendance.

The Public Accounts Committee, PAC, of the House of Representatives revealed at the weekend that over N4 trillion was spent from 2004 to 2012 by the Federal Government from Service-wide Vote without the approval of the National Assembly.
The committee said due process was not followed in the manner such a huge sum was lavished, noting that it contravened Section 80 of 1999 constitution.

The committee also alleged that between 2005 and 2006, the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo spent N250 million to feed former President of Liberia, Charles Taylor and his family, who were on an asylum in the country.
Chairman of PAC, Adeola Olamilekan (APC-Lagos), who disclosed these at a briefing of journalists, said the expenditure was made without parliamentary approval, starting from the government of President Obasanjo to that of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Olamilekan explained that “most of the expenditures to which the Service-wide Vote releases were deployed are routine in nature and did not qualify for emergency funding.
“For instance, between 2004 and 2012, a total of N1, 284,853,731.20 was spent on publicity and publication of various government programmes.
“Between 2004 and 2005, N250 million was spent on the upkeep of the former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, another N14,006,494.847.57 was also released from the Service-wide Vote for the payment of judgement debts against the Federal Government.
“The office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance released to their various offices a total of N2, 267,002,101 to a few auditors as audit fees and in 2011 alone, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation paid out N809,358,504 as audit fees to some external auditors carrying out audit of the Federal Government financial activities instead of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.”
He also alleged that over N160 million was released for the Budget and Accountant General’s offices.
He said further: “The expenditure of N162million from the 2011 Service Wide Votes releases tagged; “Closing Accounts” incurred jointly by the Office of the Accountant-General and the Budget Office of the Federation.
“An expenditure of N1,059,177,589.31($6,619,859.93 at the rate of $1=N160) in 201 and 2011 said to payment of outstanding tax on Nigeria House in New York.
“Successive governments have from 2004 to 2012. Spent a whopping N4.17 trillion as against N1.8trillion approved by the National Assembly as Service Wide Votes component of the budgets of those years, translating to N2.27trillion extra budgetary spending or 220% above the Service Wide Votes as approved in the budget for the period.”
He explained that “such extra-budgetary expenditures constitute a breach of Section 81 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended) and an illegality.”
Olamilekan also said PAC discovered in the course of its oversight that the Service-Wide Vote was converted to a recurrent fund by the government, instead of an infrastructure vote.
“Such releases were mainly used to finance recurrent expenses not targeted at critical and strategic sectors of the economy and the releases were random and did not follow any clear pattern.
“The Service Wide Votes had become an alternative budget which government prefers to patronize than the annual budget, leading to poor implementation of the annual budget as approved by the National Assembly,” he added.
The report was earlier last Thursday presented by Olamilekan to the House which resolved that the committee should do more on its findings and present another report within two weeks.
The Service Wide Wide is the fund set aside for emergency purposes.

SIX boys suspected to be members of a cult known as Blue Angel, have allegedly gang raped a 16-year-old secondary school student in Akure, Ondo State capital.
As 24-year-old school dropout, Yusuf Lawal, was yesterday remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly being in possession of a gun, which was later discovered to be a toy gun.
The boys, who reportedly recorded the act with their mobile phone, while taking their turns on the girl, threatened to upload it on the Internet if she dares to report them to her parents or the Police.
However, two of the alleged rapists have been arrested by officials of the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, while four others are on the run.
The victim (names withheld) said that the six boys blindfolded her and threatened to rip her open with knife if she failed to cooperate.
Those arrested include Banjo Olasehinde, 25, A.K.A. Obanje Babalowo Sherry and Adewale Fadunsi, 28, a fashion designer.
Those on the run include Tope Oluwole; Tope, A.K.A Jigan and Muyideen, a.k.a. Gbem.
Spokesman of NSCDC in the state, Kayode Balogun, said one of the suspects, Banjo Olasehinde, has confessed to the crime and the fact that they belong to a cult group known as Blue Angel.
According to Balogun, the suspect said they saw the girl on her way from school when one of them invited her for a chat and the six of them raped her.
24-yr-old in prison custody over toy gun
LAGOS— A 24-year-old school dropout, Yusuf Lawal, was yesterday remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody by a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly being in possession of a gun, which was later discovered to be a toy gun.
The defendant, who is standing trial before Justice Kudirat Jose, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, preferred against him.
The prosecuting counsel Adejumo Kester, said that the defendant and others at large on August 14, 2011 at Raji Oba in Alimosho, area of Lagos, conspired among themselves to commit, robbery.

NATIONAL Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur yesterday said that with what he has been going through since he became the chairman of the party, he can unequivocally call himself a militant, just as he declared war with his perceived enemies, saying he will not give up in his fight.
According to Tukur, being a militant, has been able to position him to withstand pressures from his enemies and adversaries, who according to him preferred to turn him into a lame dock as Chairman of PDP, adding that he would continue to be militant in the fight for justice, equity and equal right among members of PDP at all times.

I am a militant too because the youths believe in equity and justice, and they many of them used all legitimate means to get the attention of the government to the sufferings by the people.
“I am also a militant because I engage in political struggles to make our country better. I am a militant for Justice, fair play, equity and human rights. As the Chairman of PDP, I will not give up in fighting for what is right and good for Nigeria to be better and for the youths to triumph in their struggles for survival.”
According to Tukur his militancy disposition was inspired by his long association with the youths from Niger Delta, most especially those among them who he said were un-relenting in fighting for Justice and recognition in Nigeria, using all legitimate means, even as he extolled the virtues of leaders of the south-south youths as he commended their efforts in ensuring better life for the people in the zone as well as their preparedness to stand by the government of President Goodluck Jonathan to carry on with his Transformation Agenda.
The PDP National Chairman however urged them to always be broad minded in their approach to issues, as he call on the Nigerians youths in general to begin to operate on the world stage in order to be ranked as world players in all endeavours.
Tukur who praised members of the Niger Delta Peoples Congress for encouraging outstanding performances among the public and private servants in Nigeria, asked the members to emulate the virtues of the late President of South Africa, Mr Nelson Mandela in their considerations.
According to him, Mandela was noted for the struggles to liberate his race from oppression under the defunct apartheid regime in South-Africa, whereas Mandela’s doggedness, consistence and the ferociousness in the struggles earned him global recognition even in death, even as he said that Nigeria has the potentials to produce great leaders like Mandela, given the huge human resources with which the country was endowed, adding that the scope of achieving that lies essentially with the Nigerian youths.

Human rights activist and President of Civil Rights Congress, CRC, Mr. Shehu Sani, yesterday, alleged that it was President Goodluck Jonathan that scuttled an initial effort to constructively engage key members of the Boko Haram Islamist sect with a view to convincing them to end the blood-letting insurgency in the northern part of the country.
Sani, who spoke at a seminar for judges and journalists, organised by Konrad-Adenaver-Stitung, KAS, a German non-governmental organisation, gave an account of some underground moves that were made by some elder statesmen, including former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Sani, who presented a paper on The Difficulties of Political Cases in Justice Delivery, recalled how he persuaded Obasanjo to visit the family of the slain leader of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf, in Maiduguri on a peace mission.
It will be recalled that the representative of Mohammed Yusufs’ family, Babakura Fugu, who hosted Obasanjo in Maiduguri, was killed shortly after the meeting.
However, Sani said he opted out of the presidential committee because he was convinced that it would not achieve anything given his earlier experience with the Presidency on the matter.
Obasanjo intervenes
He said: “I independently reached out to leaders of Boko Haram and offered myself to mediate on behalf of the Federal Government.
“When they were ready to talk, and because I do not have the telephone numbers of President Goodluck Jonathan, I decided to reach out to Obasanjo.
“I narrated my encounter with members of Boko Haram to Obasanjo and he said ‘are you really sure of this?’ I said yes and invited him to Maiduguri.
“Thereafter, I told the leaders of the sect that I was coming with former President, Obasanjo. They agreed and gave us conditions that the meeting should take place in Maiduguri with no security men and journalists involved.
“At the meeting, they came out with photographs and some documents and presented them to Obasanjo, who assured them that he was going to take their grievances to the Federal Government after appealing to them to stop the killings.
“Obasanjo took those documents to the Villa. Since then nothing was done. But Obasanjo told me that he has done his best.
Delay at the Villa
“I made a second attempt by involving Dr. Dati Ahmed, who was a teacher to the founder of Boko Haram, late Mohammed Yusuf. We brought him to Abuja to mediate with the Federal Government on behalf of the sect.
“We went to see the then National Security Adviser, NSA, to the President, late General Owoye Azazi. He kept us waiting in his office for over three hours only to tell us that after consulting with security chiefs, he was told that the Boko Haram members have run out of weapons.
“Therefore, the sect can be overrun by the Federal Government and so there was no need to meet with them. At the end of the day, Dr. Ahmed was frustrated and we all left Abuja.

“We have done this twice and was frustrated, only for me to wake up one day to hear that my name was among the 26-member Presidential Committee on Amnesty for Boko Haram members.
“So when I turned it down, some people called me names and said many things about me, including the fact that I am not a patriotic Nigerian.
“I cannot think of any patriotism other than the efforts I have made. It took me three months to make contact with leaders of Boko Haram.
“It is not an easy thing because you are dealing with a killer group that even goes after their members.
“When you give a committee two weeks, it is not going to work. I have done my best and I know the committee will not achieve anything.”

Two Spanish journalists well versed in covering wars have been kidnapped in Syria by a group linked to al Qaeda, the newspaper El Mundo said Tuesday.
The two journalists -- El Mundo staff correspondent Javier Espinosa and freelance photographer Ricardo Garcia Vilanova, who was traveling with Espinosa but not on assignment for El Mundo -- were kidnapped September 16, foreign editor Ana Alonso told CNN.
The newspaper initially withheld the news at the request of the two men's families and in the hope of ensuring their safety, Alonso said. El Mundo reported that there were indirect contacts with the captors during this time.
Espinosa, 49, and Garcia, 42, have made numerous trips to war-torn Syria, often together, and they organized their most recent trip together, Alonso said.
The newspaper reported they were kidnapped at the Tal Abyad checkpoint in Raqqa province, close to the Turkish border, as they prepared to leave Syria after two weeks of coverage.
Their captors are reported to be members of a group linked to the al Qaeda-backed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and have not revealed demands for a potential liberation of the two.
Initially, the captors said they merely wanted to ensure that the two journalists were not spies, El Mundo said.
The two journalists were traveling with four fighters from the Free Syrian Army, who were also kidnapped, but released 12 days later. The fighters were supposed to have provided protection to the journalists, the newspaper reported.
Last year, Espinosa was in the same makeshift press center in Baba Amr, Homs province, where correspondent Marie Colvin of The Sunday Times of London and French photographer Remi Ochlik were killed.
El Mundo reported that an activist from Homs contacted the al Qaeda-linked captors to plead, unsuccessfully, for the release of the two Spanish journalists, telling them that Espinosa had helped evacuate the wounded from Baba Amr last year.

Nigeria has been ranked 144th most corrupt country as Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia are seen as the world’s most corrupt countries while Denmark and New Zealand are nearly squeaky-clean, graft watchdog Transparency International said in a survey Tuesday.
Worldwide, almost 70 percent of nations are thought to have a “serious problem” with public servants on the take, and none of the 177 countries surveyed this year got a perfect score, said the Berlin-based non-profit group.
Transparency International’s annual list is the most widely used indicator of sleaze in political parties, police, justice systems and civil services, a scourge which undermines development and the fight against poverty.”Corruption hurts the poor most,” lead researcher Finn Heinrich told AFP.
“That’s what you see when you look at the countries at the bottom. Within those countries, it’s also poor people who get hurt the most. These countries will never get out of the poverty trap if they don’t tackle corruption.”
Among countries that have slipped the most on the group’s 2013 Corruption Perceptions Index are war-torn Syria as well as Libya and Mali, which have also faced major military conflict in recent years.
“Corruption is very much linked to countries that fall apart, as you see in Libya, Syria, two of the countries that deteriorated the most,” said Heinrich.
“If you look at the bottom of the list, we also have Somalia there. These are not countries where the government is functioning effectively, and people have to take all means in order to get by, to get services, to get food, to survive.”
Heinrich said Afghanistan, where most NATO-led Western forces are pulling out next year after a more than decade long deployment, is “a sobering story. We have not seen tangible improvements”.
“The West has not only invested in security but also in trying to establish the rule of law. But there have been surveys in the last couple of years showing the share of people paying bribes is still one of the highest in the world.”
Also at the bottom of the list is North Korea, “an absolutely closed totalitarian society”, said Heinrich, where defectors report that famine is worsening corruption “because you have to know someone in the party who is corrupt in order to even survive”.
Among the “most improved” countries, although from a low base, was Myanmar, where a former military junta has opened the door to the democratic process and, facing an investment boom, has formally committed to transparency and accountability rules.
“That’s the only way countries can avoid the ‘resource curse’, where the resources are only available to a very small elite,” said Heinrich. “Nigeria and other oil-rich countries are obviously very good examples.”

IN continuation of his testimony in his own kidnap case, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of G.U.O. Motors Limited, Chief Godwin Okeke, yesterday, told an Onitsha High Court presided over by Justice Chudi Nwankwo how he managed to disarm one of his kidnappers, Emeka Eze (a.k.a Emeka Nando).
Emeka Eze is second-in-command of the gang that kidnapped him at the premises of the All Saints Anglican Church Cathedral, Onitsha, AnambraState on August 23, 2009.
Godwin Okeke
Okeke recalled that they actually brutalized him with bites, hit him with machetes, gun butts and other objects all over his body and even shot him on his left leg while he was struggling with them at the kidnap point.
He said the serious injury he sustained, apart from the bullet shot, was the machete cut inflicted on him by Ifeanyi Okafor, the second defendant, on his left hand.
Okeke who disclosed this at the continuation of his cross-examination by D. U. Nwafor, counsel to second defendant, Ifeanyi Okafor, maintained that they attacked him with different types of weapons and even bit him when he disarmed Emeka Eze.
Okeke noted that the machete cut inflicted on him at their hideout by Okafor who became furious that he (Okeke) reduced his N1 billion earlier offer to only N30 million, was the one that gave him serious wound.
Written statements
Vanguardfurther reports on his written statement at the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, headquarters, Awkuzu, dated January 8, 2010 in which Okeke wrote as follows: “They shot me on my left leg and gave me several machete cuts on my hand. My Lord, I told this court few minutes ago that they attacked me with several weapons, hit me all over the body and even bit me severally, but the only one that gave me this serious wound on my left hand was the second defendant’s machete cut.”
Responding to a question by the defence counsel, D. U. Nwafor who asked:”From the time you were kidnapped at All Saints Church to the time you were released, did any of them inflict any cut in your hand?” and he answered: “To the best of my knowledge, my Lord, it was only that cut from the second defendant that gave me a serious wound, but the second defendant is here and he is in a better position to tell the court how many cuts he gave me.”
The defence counsel then asked whether he made any statement to SARS at Awkuzu on January 8, 2010.
Okeke replied: “I made several statements at Awkuzu but I can’t remember their dates.”
Again, Nwafor asked him: “How many statements did you make to the police altogether,” to which he replied: “About four or five different statements but I can’t remember all their contents because all my kidnappers were arrested on different dates.”
At this stage, the defence counsel applied to tender a Certified True Copy, CTC, of Okeke’s statement to SARS dated January 8, 2010 as an exhibit, but the prosecution counsel, Chris Ajugwe, relying on Section 232 of the Evidence Act. 2011, raised an objection on the ground that the proper foundation had not been laid on tendering a previous statement as evidence in court, more so, when the defence counsel had not adduced any cogent reason for making such an application.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists, Monday morning, attacked the Composite Group Air force Base and other places in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
The siege which started at about 3am shook the town as sporadic gunshots and other Rocket Propelled Launchers fire were heard, with airstrikes in Maiduguri and Jere metropolis till 8 am.
Sources said during the attacks on the air force base and other places including the Maiduguri international airport, several people were killed as the terrorists numbering over 300 planted explosive in targeted areas in the state capital.

An eye witness who resides in Gomari airport area, just few metres away to the air force base, said, ” I saw 5 military operational vehicles conveying dead bodies to the hospital at about 6am, the dead bodies were suspected to be security agents killed during the attack”.

A family court sitting in Ikeja Magistrate Court, Lagos, will today, resume hearing in the charge of defilement of a two and half years old child (names withheld) against one Kehinde Layode.
According to Access to Justice, AJ, a non-governmental organisation, handling the matter, “on November 11, 2013, we received information that a girl (names withheld) (two and a half years old at the relevant time), was sexually molested by a man, Kehinde Layode, who had been put in a position of trust over the child.
According to the family, the mother of the girl had kept the child with the defendant and his wife to go and buy drugs for the toddler as she was running a fever.
“This was a fairly routine help that the girl’s mother often sought and the defendant and his wife offered. However, on this fateful day when the girl’s mother returned to the house, she knocked on the door but the defendant told her that she was sleeping.
“The mother, however, insisted that the door be opened so that she could administer the drug she had bought.
Subsequently, she took the toddler home but noticed that there was a thick white fluid coming down her laps at which point she raised an alarm.
“The alarm attracted neighbours, who insisted that she report the matter to the police and take her for medical examination, which she did. The case was reported to the Igando Police Station and the police have, after investigations, launched a prosecution against the defendant.
“The case is presently before Mrs A. Oshoniyi of the magistrate sitting at Family Court, Ikeja Magistrate Court, Lagos State.
“The charge against the defendant is that of defilement of the little child by having sexual intercourse with her on January 12, 2013.”

President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked Mrs Aisha Umar from office as his Senior Special Assistant.
This was contained in a press statement issued Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
The statement further indicated that Mrs Umar’s sack takes effect today.

Alhaji Abu Dankure, the Sokoto-based businessman who was kidnapped and released 11 days ago, is dead.
Dankure, aged 68, died at the Uthmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto at about 3 a.m. on Friday.
His elder brother, Alhaji Mamman Dangaladima said that the deceased was taken to the hospital at about 2 a.m after complaining of a heartache and died about an hour later.
The late businessman was kidnapped in Sokoto, on Nov. 6, by four gunmen along Kupper road and was released on Nov. 11, after reports said the abductors were paid N51 million as ransom.
Dankure, a close associate of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko, is survived by four wives and 72 children.
Until his death, he held the traditional title of Sarkin Fadan Sarkin Musulmi.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayer for the deceased, led by Sheikh Dahiru Shehu, the Chief Imam of Shehu Juma’at Mosque, was conducted at about 9.30 a.m.
It was attended by Gov. Wamakko, his Deputy, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari , former minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Sen. Jubril Gada and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sahabi Gada.

Arewa Youth Forum Thursday decried the declaration of Boko Haram and Ansaru as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation by the United States Government.
The National President of the AYF, Alh Gambo Gujungu, told Vanguard in an interview that the latest branding of the two groups would create more security challenges for the nation than envisaged.
According to Gujungu, the move would escalate terrorism rather than curtail it.
Gujungu explained that it was wrong to place a faceless group, whose members are not known, as a FTO.
He said, “The Federal Government has failed in unmasking those behind the Boko Haram attacks and has been spending our resources looking for attackers after each attack.
“It is painful that despite all the intelligence available to Nigeria and the U.S, the real brains behind the terrorists have not been fished out.
“Rather than classifying these groups as FTO, the FG and the U.S should fish them and their sponsors out. We cannot say whether these terrorists are Muslims given the level of their indiscriminate attacks on Muslims and Christians.
“But we are praying fervently to the Almighty Allah to expose those behind terrorism in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Government has already given its support to the action of the U.S, saying that it was a step in the right direction.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, who spoke with newsmen last night, said: “The US stance is a welcome development; we salute the US Government for partnering with the Federal Government to rout out terrorism.
“This step will assist this nation to deal with these renegades.
“It will also help in strengthening the proscription of Boko Haram by the Federal Government.
“We urge other super powers to emulate the US Government to check terrorism in any part of the world. A threat to any nation by the insurgents is a threat to global peace.”

A housewife, Lami Shaibu, yesterday, urged a Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to her blind husband, Ibrahim, for alleged excessive sexual urge.
Lami, 38, of Aso Pada told the court that she was no longer interested in the 15-month-old marriage.
She said: “I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I can’t stand his excessive sexual urge. He likes sex too much, I can’t bear it.
“Since I got married to him, there is no peace in the house, he always beats me, he doesn’t forgive and does not provide food for the house.
“Most times, he would have sex with me from midnight till early hours of the morning, even when I am crying, he will not stop.”
Lami said: “It is because of his too much sexual demands that made me to move away from him. I now stay at my marriage guardian’s house at Aso Pada, Mararaba.”
Ibrahim, 56, who resides at the same address with Lami, denied the allegation, saying: “I still love her with the whole of my heart.
“I, therefore, urge the court to give me time to reconcile with my wife. I believe she and I can settle the matter amicably.”
The judge, Malam Danladi Musa, adjourned the case to November 18, for settlement or continuation of hearing.

There was pandemonium, yesterday, in Awka when a middle-aged woman escaped death at Ezu River, where over 23 mystery corpses were found few months ago.
The woman, Ms. Peace Nnabuife, from Ezeoye, Nibo in Awka South Local Government of the state, had entered the river on a “spiritual journey” when she suddenly slipped and almost drowned.
Some young men, using canoe, were said to have gone to the river bank to perform some sacrifices when they saw the drowning woman and helped her.
They were leaving when her N500 fell into the river. She went for the money and got swept off by the river. Roots of trees were said to have stopped her from being taken away by the river.
She said: “I came here so that Ezu River will carry me to Nibo. We travel through rivers to our meeting place in the depth of the river, where our queen’s kingdom is.
“I came with cellophane bag and I had N500 in it. The N500 fell into the river as the water carried me.”
Asked where she was going for the meeting, she said, “we hold our meetings at Ezu Agulu and I am still in the junior category.”

Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday afternoon despite winning their two games in the month under review.

Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect on Thursday attacked two towns in Borno State killing 20 people.
It was reported that the terrorists started their attack by opening fire in a market and killing 15 people in Gajiran Local Government Area of Borno State.
They later went to a nearby village, Bulabulin Ngawra in Konduga LGA of the state where about five other people were killed.
Our correspondent gathered that the attack which was carried out in two Local Government Areas in Borno State occurred between 10pm and 2am on Thursday.
According to a source, as a result of the destruction unleashed on the two towns, the surviving residents fled their homes through bush paths.
Gajiran residents speaking to journalists in the state capital, Maiduguri said the gunmen pretended to be traders attending a local market.
"Some of them came aboard trucks while others came on foot to beat the security checks at the entrance of the town," resident Ibrahim Bulama told AFP.
They then "blended among traders conducting business," before opening fire in the market, killing 15 people, he told reporters.
They also set fire to a building belonging to Ngwara LGA and a police post.
Gajiran is roughly 85 kilometres (50 miles) from the capital.
There has been no mobile phone service in Borno since the middle of May, when the Federal Government declared a state of emergency across most of the northeast and launched an offensive aimed at crushing Boko Haram's insurgency.
The military has said it switched off the phones to block the Islamists from coordinating attacks.
It has also claimed the offensive left the insurgents in disarray and curbed their ability to attack to civilians.
While the violence has persisted amid the military campaign, the pattern of attacks suggests that the insurgents have targeted more remote regions, perhaps where the presence of security forces is reduced.

UNIVERSITY students under the umbrella of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, yesterday, took to the streets in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, calling on the Federal Government to accede to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
They equally threatened to shut down activities in the private universities in the country should the crisis linger on.
The students who displayed several placards with various inscriptions, lambasted the Federal Government for its failure to honour the agreement it entered into with ASUU since 2009.

He condemned the refusal of Federal Government to budget a reasonable amount of money to education sector as recommended by UNESCO which is 26 per cent of the country’s total budget.
Sunday noted that some countries with smaller Gross Domestic Product, GDP, like Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Morocco and Botswana had budgetary allocations to education sector as follow, 31 per cent,20 per cent,23 per cent ,17.7 per cent and 19 per cent respectively to 8.5 per cent that Nigeria government had budgeted for education in 2013.
Also speaking, Steven Adara ,a student leader from Ekiti State University, EKSU , lamented that government officials and prominent Nigerians were not bothered about the crisis in the public universities because their children were in private schools overseas.

Governor Rochas Okorocha Tuesdday, bowed to he superior fire power of the fiery Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J. V. Obinna, over the obnoxious abortion law.
The Governor, who retraced his locus when he addressed membersof the State House of Assembly, appealed to he lawmakers to immediately commence the processes of expunging the offending sections of the obnoxious law.
“I have always loved children. I fell for this law as soon as I saw the safeguards it contained for the protection of our women”, Okorocha explained.
According to the Governor, a law is as good as the acceptability by the people for which it was made and used the opportunity to appeal to the lawmakers to repealthe offending sections of the law.

Cardiff have completed the signing of West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie, subject to Premier League ratification.
The Nigerian forward had been linked with moves to Swansea and Stoke during the transfer window but Malky Mackay has won the race for the 32-year-old, who has signed a two-year deal.
Odemwingie becomes Cardiff's eighth new signing since their promotion to the Premier League and will provide added firepower, having scored 30 goals in his three-year spell at the Hawthorns.

Three Middle Eastern nations have offered the United States use of their military assets for action against Syria, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday.

No fewer than seven persons have been reportedly killed in an attack on Adu village in Atakad Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State by about 20 gunmen, yesterday.
The Atakad people suffered similar fate last May, which led to the killing of no fewer than 30 members of the communities and the displacement of about 10,000 others, who live on the Atakad hills in the council, about 240km south of Kaduna city, the state capital.
However, six Fulani men were later arrested by youths in Zankan village, about 10km from the scene of the incident, after they were seen removing blood stained clothes and wearing new ones to board a waiting vehicle. Police later confirmed the incident.
A resident, who does not want his name mentioned, said: “About 20 men came to Adu village through Zankang forest, shooting and moving from one house to anotherslaughtering people.
“One person was killed on top of the hills, while some others were slaughtered at Adu village.”
Council boss speaks
Chairman of Kaura Local Government, Kumai Bodu, told Vanguard: “I was woken up this morning around 5am and told thatFulani gunmen had killed seven people and injured some.
“I don’t know what is going on here. If it is the Fulani, then I wantto say that there is no basis for trust again.
“We have had all kinds of meeting with them here and they all assured us that no such attacks will ever occur again. We are still studying the situation.”
Arrested
An eyewitness said some gunmen were seen moving to a bus parkedby a road side at about 6am by the youths of the area, who immediately alerted the security agencies.
The source said: “When we rounded them up as they were about entering the bus, we called the security agencies and they came and picked them to ManchokPolice Station before some militarymen took them to Kafanchan.”
When contacted, Kaduna State Police Spokesman Aminu Lawan, confirmed that six people have been arrested in connection with the attack.
He said: “There was an attack in Adu village and people were killed. The security men were able to arrest six people. I cannot tell the number of casualties for now.
“However, I know that four were injured and are receiving treatment now. As soon as we getthe exact figure, we will make it available to you.
“We have beefed up security in the area and investigations have commenced.”
