I spent almost the whole day today in the Hospital.
I went to NAUTH new site (Akammiri), Nnewi, Anambra, to see a Doctor, who wrote me a referral to the old NAUTH site. I went there and spent hours before I could get someone to attend to me. After taking my notes, a consultant saw it and said it wasn't ADHD and that it might be something else. I was kind of pissed because everything about ADHD is consistent with what I'd gone through since childhood.
But to get a better perspective, he's asked me to bring someone that has lived with me for an appointment fixed in a month time. I'm also going to give a contact for my aunt, who I lived with for the longest period of my life, so they can put a call through to her and ask some questions.
So let's see how the appointment goes for the month of June. I hope to get this over with and get a grip of my life.

Was it a psychiatrist or a psychologist that diagnosed you?
Also, what's the price of the drugs like?


That's just the way it goes.
Had the same experience too, switched hospitals a couple times when I discovered the consultations were not leading anywhere.

NB: You want to be sure though that the person you're connecting them with remembers several instances of how it has played out in you. Diagnosis is usually Very TIGHT, one wrong answer can bungle everything.

You also want to be sure that the hospital you go to has perhaps treated someone for it before or has doctors who have solid knowledge of it, there are still several doctors out there that don't.

The drugs are most often over 10k(...per month), like 12-15k.
Technically you'll be spending a lot per month depending on your treatment methods & the service charges of the hospital.

Probably said much, and there's a lot more guidance I may be able to help with, but can't type a lot here.

I'm really sorry you've had to go through a lot emotionally, I highly recommend the community resources that has been shared previously, it usually does go a long way to help.

Hey buddy, I see you've been doing a lot of reaching out to folks with ADHD, well, that's a good starting point. As for me, I was not able to solve or cure my ADHD. Personally, I do not think ADHD is curable, but what I do know is that it is completely manageable. Aside the intellectual aspect of ADHD which is completely terrible, it is actually not bad. How have I been able to manage mine? I started accepting more of what I could do, rather than things I couldn't do. I focused more on things I am more likely to excel at versus things I might struggle with.

r/ADHD has also been an immensely beneficial resource for me, it really has made me feel less alone and helped me find the grace over some challenges I've had

I did not. Mainly because the mainstream ADHD drugs are not accessible in Nigeria.

...In my case though, I'm medicated...here in Nigeria

Honestly though, it took me serious sweats, tears & blood to be able to get diagnosed and get treatment after about 7 months of seeking one

My treatment has helped with attention majorly, it's not an absolute fix though, but that area got quite settled, I have to wrestle the others.

Just thought I should add my 2cents to help others who may stumble on this.

Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NVLD)



Ever met a person who talks too much & so well, yet, has challenges with achieving their goals or having their lives in order despite the fact that they aren't lazy?

Chances are, they may be struggling with Non Verbal Learning Disability - NVLD (the most overlooked, misunderstood & underdiagnosed learning disability according to additudemag.com)

Contrary to its name, people with Non Verbal Learning Disability actually appear to be very fluent and/or vocal from a tender age & throughout their lives, unfortunately that's what covers up their challenges & inefficiencies in virtually every other area

Asides from being vocal, they barely have strength in other areas & may have to struggle :


- To read social cues (or not even be aware enough to read them)

- To coordinate both their internal body balance & the space/activities around their environments

- To read clocks, maps, graphs, mathematics & various other technical stuff


Some of the characteristics a person with NVLD may posses include :

- Talking too much (which could annoy people)

- Clumsiness (gross & fine motor skills challenges)

- Eloquence/Verbal Smartness (they're verbally intelligent but have a knowledge application challenge)

- An inclination to be phonetically accurate & have fine pronunciations

- An ability to form/conjure new words that sound logical & interesting

- A preference for engaging older people more than their peers

- Being 'homebodies' (they prefer being indoor than exploring the world around them)

-Inquisitiveness (These last three characteristics are aided even more now with the Internet)

- Acting a bit immature and naive for their age & 'wisdom'

- High chances of difficulties with driving


NB : The intensity of some of these characteristics may become less obvious in adulthood


NVLD is most often considered, likewise mistaken as one of the symptoms of Aspergers Syndrome (...which has now been classified under Autism Spectrum Disorder) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder due to several similarities.

However NVLD is best handled when identified as a distinct condition...(which could be a comorbidity in cases where there are clear signs of ASD or ADHD) rather than a symptom.


Unlike other disorders that have been listed, people with NVLD act quite normal, in fact they are usually considered to be very bright as a result of their eloquence

Thanks to this eloquence & their rote learning strengths, most of them manage to move through early school years fairly well

Yet there's only so much these strengths can help with when they get to levels where they need to solve complex problems & apply their knowledge in new or specific situations

It's usually at such points most people with NVLD (just as in the case of ADHD) increasingly get aware & sense something could be off about them,

However, they barely get to figure out (a neuro-developmental disorder has plagued them all their lives) until they hit a dead-end, or can't seem to make the kind of progress that corresponds with their level of 'intelligence' no matter how hard they try


When discovered early, NVLD can be managed with the required assistance & accommodations, however, like other developmental disorders, it's a chronic condition.

If faith helps some people feel/live better with it, it's actually fine

But as you've pointed, virtually (if not...) all deliverance/miracle claims have no strong evidence or replication to prove their potency

Science has been the closest & biggest evidence and even with that, there are still several miles to cover

While most people can count themselves lucky to be free of such extreme afflictions, it doesn't diminish the fact that some of these mental illnesses cause patients to experience truly horrific realities even when everything is really just fine.

For anyone that can relate to the disorders listed above (or even if you just don't feel that all is fine mentally), then it's probably best that you seek professional help.

Understand that there's absolutely no shame in receiving psychiatric treatment, and that reaching out can greatly improve the quality of life for those with the most prevalent mental conditions – such as ADHD, eating disorders, and depression.and.......remember to smile



The brain (and extensively the human body) is an ultra delicate organ.
And the fact that it's the powerhouse of functioning makes a little imbalance cause immense and varying differences.


The unfortunate thing is, it's super complex too,
So complex that despite so much ground breaking discoveries, scientists still haven't cracked Specific &/ Ultimate solutions to its problems... In 2022.

There's still a whole lot of guess works around it.


Now, Imagine a person being aware of his condition(s) & its limitations.

...and how these limitations weaken the effectiveness of his efforts or even nullifies it... regardless of the intensity he throws in.

Life is uncertain already, but there's an additional fresh uncertainty to deal with now cos...(virtually all mental disorders are chronic).
There are no specific & ultimate solutions yet, just a bunch of testings that if unlucky could complicate things further.

It's no wonder virtually everyone in this trap are suicidal or battle suicidal thoughts — those that are aware & those that aren't.

Unfortunately it's too hard for unaffected people to understand &/ create necessary accommodations to make things easier — The stigma, The disregard, The misconceptions makes things extra harder for people trying to figure out a fate they didn't create


The ultimately funny thing however is: Anyone can be a victim
...at any point in their lives

If you're equally a forgetful person and you get easily distracted either during work or conversations...

Then chances are it might be an underlying condition.


Hard to say and hard to break it down.


But these things when constantly experienced (despite conscious efforts against them) may point to a 'possibility' of Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (Do a brief Google search if that could help).

Now, it's equally not easy to assume or chalk it up to this because everybody experiences these things from time to time and at various degrees, but when they occur too frequently and start affecting your daily life up to a point of concern then you may want to consider a medical evaluation.


It's very important you make confirmations before having assumptions however.

Because these things happen (as I earlier mentioned) to everybody from time to time and at various degrees; it makes it easy for it to get disregarded as an issue to be considered, and then people begin to tag you as lazy (as you've gotten to see through the thread).

Meanwhile you work twice as hard than the average person to accomplish the same things they do.


While my post may point you to a new direction, I'd implore that you filter the advices from the backlash on the thread. Some of them are actually helpful behavioural therapies (which though you may have to put double efforts to achieve) are actually very helpful.


I like to call them over-compensations.
Try to wake up way early even if it means by the time you'd be done and get to office you'd be over 1hour early.
Do it to save yourself and to be effective while you consider the medical aspect of it (if you choose to - depending on the degree at which it affects your quality of life).

I used to be this person. I'm really proud that it's all in the past now. Nothing could make me go early anywhere, alarm , roommates, job interviews heck I was even late for my own wedding.

What I discovered was, I didn't know how to manage time.

Some of the people nailing him to the cross can't survive a quarter of what he has

And most of them are just looking through his trauma


What of the trauma of the old man who has spent

not 3 weeks
not 12 weeks
not 36 weeks nor 52 weeks
not even 100 weeks

but a whopping 624 weeks

being vegetative;
not being able to improve/advance mentally & physically
not being able to move
much less hanging out and discussing with friends

In 12 solid years
A 12 year old girl today is most likely at puberty stage



Who wants such life for himself?


When he gets to recover, life can hardly remain the same


Most prolonged cases of stroke I've had to hear of, either they die in it or they die shortly after recovery max max. 2 - 5 years (which of course the wasted years and severe pains and traumas counts for nothing)
