Nairaland GeneralWhy Dreadlocks Are Beautiful On African Children (tale Of Two Brothers) by hayze(op): 11:51am On Feb 26, 2017
The photo you see above is of Samson and Emmanuel- two brothers who attend school at my NYSC Place of Primary Assignment.
The first day I met Samson (the older brother), he was telling his Mathematics teacher that it was a bad idea to beat him because he had "powers."
You see, while I was growing up in Onitsha, having dreadlocks (dada) was a very bad thing. Children who were born with it were thought to be evil. I remember that a special day was caste out in churches to have the dreadlocks cut off.
The one I remember very well because I was raised catholic, was that on special Tuesdays (I can't recall if they were first or last Tuesdays of the month), parents took their children to St Mary's Catholic Church at Awka Road, with anointing oil and scissors, so that Father Ikeobi would have the hair "chopped" off in deep prayers.

Nairaland GeneralHow Whatsapp Ponzi Scheme Went Away With My Friends Money by hayze(op): 4:44pm On Feb 22, 2017
So last week my cousin was telling everybody in the house about a whatsapp group called quick link were you PH 20k and get GH of 100percent profit of your money (a whasapp Ponzi scheme). At first I declined because at that time I lacked the fund to engage in that kind of scheme. Mind you I have been getting messages of similar groups on whasapp and I refused to join. Same cousin tried to persuade me to join he even asked me to borrow or merge money with a friend to start, I declined again because i can’t and I don’t know who to borrow from. After a while, I joined the schemes whatsapp group just to monitor what’s going on. For over a week people were exchanging money 20k, 40k, 60k, 80k, 100k to get double the amount they put in. I was convinced that it worked because my cousin that put in money got double of his money but I still don’t have money to

Nairaland GeneralPower And Its Abuse by hayze(op): 7:20pm On Feb 20, 2017
Hi it's Chi Chi Nwa again today I'm angry, really angry. Religion has blinded and brainwashed my people oo kai. Was reading Linda Ikeji's blog some days ago when I came across this article below. After reading, I became so angry and sick to my stomach. A pastor asked his congregation to drink poison and they foolishly drank it. Let me ask sef, did Jesus ever tell his disciples to drink poison? He told one to walk on water and was there to help him because he knew his faith was not yet strong. Now that Jesus who is also God, he has the power to raise you from the dead if you die (according to bible). A man, a con artist, a greedy liar who twists the teaching of the bible to sooth his con asks them to drink poison and they did, and now they paid with their lives. also take the case of this man Apostle Suleiman, I don’t want to go into details but what caught my attention is how a state Governor was willing to protect him but the same governor can’t do the same for the people of the state.
This is the reason I don’t go church, in fact I hate churches and you will never see me there for any reason. I pray I love my God; I give offering in form giving as little as I can to legit beggars, I don’t let these con artists get to me. Nairaland GeneralChi Chi Nwa's Opinion: Is Life Really Easier For Women Than Men? by hayze(op): 6:59am On Feb 17, 2017
So since last night my mind has been troubled with this issue and I had to share. So after a long trip from Enugu to Taraba state, I was so tired and needed to rest badly. While resting, as usual, my stray mind went off again. This time to a particular topic few people pay attention to. Trust me when I tell you I had no prior thought of this before it came to me. It just came like "Is life really easier for women than men? So my mind split in two like there was a debate competition going on in my mind involving two parts of my mind and I still had to be the judge. Confusing right?
So the part for the women was like "Who tell you say life easy for women? Ghen! Ghen!! A girl decides to be good and follow everything society says is right yet the same people call her many names like "local, classless, lacks fashion sense, too godly, naive and so on" smh. She decides to go to school because society just won't stop talking about how dependent the female folks are of their counterparts. She decides to go to school to... Ok over the week I saw something that kept bothering me, a Whatsapp message between a son and a mother. Although the whatsapp message was meant to be a joke, the mums reaction got me wondering, why and how come this is her only line of thought. She has every right to be angry, but she's angry at the wrong things and making the wrong decisions at the same time. Typical African parents.

Nairaland GeneralThe Beginning: Being Bullied And Fighting Back by hayze(op): 6:16pm On Feb 13, 2017
Daniel was in the alpha group, had bunch of school fathers, iron his cloths, the girls love him even though he was rude as eef and thought that he could get away with anything. Me one the other hand belonged to the omega group, no school father, can’t iron my clothes and girls won’t come near me. Since I know where I belong, I stayed on my lane avoiding conflict as best as I could and minding my own business. But one thing you have to understand About command is, you can never totally avoid conflict no matter how you try. Somehow it would find you and bite you in the ass. Literally, conflict will bite you in the ass no jokes ask any commando lol. Continue reading http://chichinwasdiary..com.ng/2017/02/the-beginning-being-bullied-and.html?m=1

Nairaland GeneralThe Beginning: Being Bullied And Fighting Back by hayze(op): 8:46am On Feb 12, 2017
Few minutes before the end of prep, the soldier came back and asked about the names he told me to write. I gave it to him, he called them out flogged them and left. Now this is where my trouble started. Remember I didn’t write only Daniels name, I wrote about fifteen names that day and all of them were flogged. But Daniel took it upon himself to deal with me. He kept screaming if we get to the hostel, he’s going beat me. Honestly, I wasn’t even afraid of him or I didn’t think he was actually going do it. Prep ended, we all headed back to the hostel. I have already forgotten about Daniels threat, and then all of sudden Daniel punched me in the face. Are you familiar with what happens when you step on a dog’s tail? The dog leaps and bites, not caring if you are the owner or not. That was me immediately I received the punch; continue reading http:///2kG9Zfs

Nairaland GeneralChi Chi Nwa’s Opinion: Attracta By Humblesmiths, Bringing Back The Oldies by hayze(op): 10:31pm On Feb 08, 2017
The chorus is something else; he’s trying to give us clues on the girl he’s referring to in the song. He mentioned his love interests. Genevieve, Ini Edo, and asked them to take it easy with him.

Few things I love about the song ;

Firstly, the part he said “abi my love dey give pain relief oo” lol. Seriously na so the love dey shak the babe? Lol.

Secondly, The beat of the song is soothing and relaxing, this the kind of song you play in Ibari Ogwa while

Nairaland GeneralThe Beginning: Being Bullied And How It All Started Part 1 by hayze(op): 7:37am On Feb 06, 2017
Hi I am chi chi, people have been asking me why I call myself (SAM) socially awkward misfit, it’s because so far my life has been different in so many ways. Growing was a challenge because no one understood me, some people thought I was just weird and others called me lazy. (as in him no fit fight)

Have you ever been bullied and helpless? I have.
As a kid I always had a low self-esteem, something that both my friends and my family didn’t understand at that time. Even now that I am grown I still suffer it just that I understand it better and I am matured to handle it better now. Growing up I didn’t know what was wrong with me, most things other kids would easily do, I shy away from them, a kid I’m way stronger than can bully me and I would do nothing about it.
This one time during my primary school days, while I was packing my bag preparing to go home after school this boy decided to bully me. if you see this small boy and see me, you would think I am the bully. Seriously this boy came from nowhere slapped me and said “nyuo anwo ka awo gbarie gi isi” asin shit bee make bee bite you. I stood there crying I couldn’t do jack. Asin, assuming I decided to fight back I might have killed the boy but shit, I cried instead. This is how it was for years running away from fight, getting bullied by my fellow kids.

Nairaland GeneralSocial Media Critic And Seasoned Journalist Kemi Omololu-olunloyo Tells Men To M by hayze(op): 6:16pm On Dec 10, 2016
Social Media critic and seasoned journalist Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo posted this picture on her Instagram page and wrote below it why men should masturbate.

Here is what she wrote :

All Nigerian men must MASTURBATE. It is a must! Many of U keep asking me to discuss this since I'm a sexpert and pharmacist. The truth is that you need penis stimulation sometimes. Look at my poster. When my boyfriend is out of town on business he is masturbating while I'm on the phone with him. @hakeemceo knows that it saves money and time. No paying prostitutes and no time for hoes in hoe-tels. I'm the only eligible pussy. During ejaculation, men are destressed, headaches are gone, U ain't hurting nobody but the Pope who knows better to clean up his own house full of pedophile priests. Most #Nigerian men tell me they have masturbated to my pics online. No problem, images are good masturbation aids. Your fave celebrity you dream of fuckn is a good idea. Nairaland GeneralBecause Of The Huge Amount Owed By Nigeria We About Experience A Total Blackout by hayze(op): 1:26pm On Nov 20, 2016
Punchng reported that Nigeria might be in trouble Because of her huge dept, according to them there might be a total blackout as power generation as well as distribution companies say over N400bn debts are stifling their operations.

While GENCOs’ debt is put at over N300bn, DISCOs have complained of being owed over N100bn by customers.

With such a huge debt burden, the power firms said they lack the funding required for their operations, including the purchase of equipment and spare parts.

The Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies, Dr. Joy Ogaji, said:
“The debt is over N300bn that GENCOs are being owed. If the situation is not checked, there will be blackout. It is so imminent that I don’t know if most of the generation we are having now can go beyond Christmas if the payment problem is not solved. We can’t pay contractors; most of the machines are packing up.” continue http://www.possitt.com/2016/11/because-of-huge-amount-owed-by-nigeria.html

CareerThe Principles Of Blowing One's Own Trumpet (review Of Public Opinion) By Ayola. by hayze(op): 8:02am On Nov 17, 2016

While going developing an article on "writing proposals and CVs". A question came up about if its right to blow one's own trumpet. Is it a good practice to always speak good about oneself? If yes, then how do you do it without seeming proud?

While going developing an article on "writing proposals and CVs". A question came up about if its right to blow one's own trumpet.

Question was:
Is it a good practice to always speak good about oneself? If yes, then how do you do it without seeming proud?

Its not a crime being proud of oneself

"It's awkward not to speak well of oneself... not to give personal appraise." Those are the words of Mr. Patrick Olakunle, saying it's important that we speak well of oneself always. When asked if this won't translate to one being perceived to be proud, he said: "Then its not a crime being proud of oneself. I couldn't agree more.

Modesty is key

"I'd say modesty is key. If it contributes to the point one is trying to make, then it's fine. But if not, there is nothing more repelling than being too full of oneself." - Lawrence Idowu (University of Lagos, Nigeria)

Combination of Speaking Good and Acting Good

"Speaking good of oneself is a good virtue when it is done with all sense of courtesy and honesty; acting good about what one has spoken about is itself a better idea; yet, nothing beats the skillful combination of the duo" - Bello Idris Olakunle (Ikorodu, Lagos; Nigeria)

You cannot give what you do not have

"Most times we confuse confidence for arrogance but it's not supposed to be so. Most times what i say to people is, you cannot to give what you don't have" - Solomon David (Jos, Nigeria). Solomon also said:

Occasion should determine?
"Even the Holy Bible states it, ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself'. This literally means you can’t love you neighbor if you do not love yourself hereby stamping what I said!. Occasionally, its gud 2 blow one's trumpet" says Bibi Olisa (Lagos, Nigeria). Here's the convo that ensued:

Ayoola: "Not every time, right?"

Ayoola: "When's the good time and when is the bad time?" read more and leave a comment on the site http://www.possitt.com/2016/11/the-principles-of-blowing-ones-own.html

Nairaland GeneralGood News: Igbo Physician, Omalu Receives Highest Medical Award In US by hayze(op): 5:25pm On Nov 15, 2016
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) was first diagnosed in an NFL player in 2002, and it has since been confirmed by postmortem examination in dozens of American athletes. The physician who made the initial discovery, forensic neuropathologist Bennet I. Omalu, MD, MBA, MPH, overcame massive efforts to discredit him and his research, and today CTE is widely recognized as a health risk in millions of patients with histories of repetitive brain trauma, including military veterans. The AMA on Saturday honored Dr. Omalu with its Distinguished Service Award during the opening session of the 2016 AMA Interim Meeting, in Orlando, Fla.
Dr. Omalu was working as a forensic neuropathologist in Pittsburgh when he conducted postmortem examinations of former NFL offensive lineman Mike Webster’s brain and spotted what would become the hallmarks of CTE.
“[W]hen I looked at his brain and he had diffuse amyloid plaques everywhere and there were no neuritic plaques … I took the slides home with me,” Dr. Omalu said in a 2015 interview. “I spent six months with those slides. I saw tau randomly situated, and not reminiscent of any other dementia that I knew. My first reaction, when I went to the literature, was that I expected to find previous reports like this, but I didn’t find even one.”
He had the case published in 2005 and went on to identify CTE in postmortem examinations of numerous other former NFL players.
Dr. Omalu initially thought the league would be pleased more details http://www.possitt.com/2016/11/good-news-igbo-physician-omalu-receives.html#more

Nairaland GeneralNaij News Photojournalist Yinka Adeparusi Is Missing by hayze(op): 5:16pm On Nov 15, 2016
Yinka Adeparusi, who works for Naij News as a photojournalist in Abuja is missing under very mysterious circumstances.

Yinka stepped out of his Abuja apartment on Sunday, November 13 with a brief ‘I’ll be back’ and has not been seen since. Several calls made to his mobile phone lines have not been going through. Mr Adeparusi has also not made any contact with those close to him or his colleagues in the office.

This is quite unusual because Yinka is a soft-spoken, very professional and clear-headed individual; not the kind of person to wander off. He speaks Yoruba and English quite well and he had a

not-too-thick Afro-style hair as at the last time he was seen.

Yinka is an award-winning photojournalist who graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication. Among other awards, Yinka received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and was winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011.
