Politics › You're Ungrateful - Bashir Ahmad Blasts Labour Party For Disrespecting Peter Obi by Heavens1stson(op): 3:49pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
I am not a fan of Peter Obi or his ideologies, but let’s be honest, it is incredibly disrespectful for the Labour Party to ask him to resign from the party within hours. It is utterly ungrateful. No exaggeration, but at least 75% of the party’s current base and momentum exist because of him. His entry gave the party national relevance. You don’t treat the person who built your house like a visitor. https://x.com/BashirAhmaad/status/1940771554310103364?s=19

The Egbon SOWORE supporters are livid truly, lmao. So, this was what obidients and PDP guys felt! 😂🤣 I’m suddenly a castivist now because I have endorsed coalition. When I was supporting Egbon SOWORE your candidate, I was not a castivist to you but I was a castivist to PDP and obidients and working for Bola Tinubu according to them. If you have not been called castivist, you are a failure as a comrade sha. I don’t sincerely care who anybody votes or support and I always respect everyone’s political opinions and choices. As for me, I will vote whoever the coalition present in 2027 if God gives me life. They have done what I have being screaming since 2023 which is to unite and not split their votes. Politics › Don't Sack All Moderators – Patriotic Nigerians Advise Seun Osewa by Heavens1stson(op): 2:32pm On Apr 15, 2025 |
I came across a thread where a group of Tinubu supporters were urging Mr. Seun Osewa to sack all his moderators except Mynd44. I felt bad, especially since I recently created a thread appealing to Nairalanders to respect our moderators. Still, I decided to read through the comments to understand their reasons. It turns out the uproar was based on a simple misunderstanding. A user, Seunmsg, argued that the moderators were deliberately featuring anti-Tinubu threads on the front page. I understood his point. I, too, would feel bad if a leader I admire were constantly being portrayed in a negative light. So I don’t blame Seunmsg. His reaction is valid. However, Seunmsg and others should also understand that the moderators are not to blame. Things are genuinely bad in Nigeria right now. People are being slaughtered daily by terrorists. Kidnappings are rampant. The suicide rate is rising due to the unbearable economic hardship. Everyone is feeling the pressure, including Tinubu supporters. In fact, a Tinubu supporter was recently rescued after attempting suicide due to the hardship. That’s the reality on ground.Because of all this, the media is flooded with negative reports, not just Nairaland. Please, don’t take my word for it. Check Twitter. Check Facebook. Check Vanguard, Punch, Sahara Reporters, every platform is filled with stories about the crisis in Nigeria. So, when the Nairaland front page appears filled with critical posts, it’s not because there’s an anti-Tinubu campaign. It’s just a reflection of the country's harsh reality. My advice to Tinubu supporters? Recruit more bots to promote the president. It’s clear the current ones aren't doing enough. Trust me, even if Seun sacks all the moderators and decides to run Nairaland alone, the narrative won’t magically change. So instead of pointing fingers, why not advise your Jagaban to do something about the insecurity and suffering in the land? Believe me, once things start getting better, you’ll naturally begin to see "pro-Tinubu" threads dominating the front page.Once again, I appeal to everyone, let’s respect our moderators and appreciate their hard work. May God bless us all.

Politics › Nairalanders, Stop Attacking Moderators by Heavens1stson(op): 10:18am On Apr 12, 2025 |
I've noticed a troubling trend where some disgruntled Nairalanders attack our beloved moderators at every given opportunity. This is wrong.
We’ve allowed our biases to get the better of us, such that any action taken by a moderator we don't like is automatically seen as a personal attack. That’s not fair. Moderators are human, just like the rest of us. No one is perfect.
If you believe a decision was made in error, simply use the 'Mail Mod' feature. Trust me, it works. I’ve used it before. Once, a thread of mine was deleted due to a misunderstanding, and within minutes, it was restored. Others might have ignored that option and instead started attacking a random moderator they think was responsible. That’s unfair.
Nairaland is a massive forum, and moderating it is no small task. Most of our moderators do this voluntarily and without pay. We should be appreciative of their efforts. I assure you, no moderator hates you. They dedicate their time sifting through thousands of posts, deciding which deserve front-page visibility, which are spam, and which are duplicates that need to be locked and linked for SEO purposes. These are not easy tasks.
And when a mistake happens (as it sometimes will) just use the available channels to report it. You’ll often find that no one is witch-hunting you.
Please, let’s be respectful and appreciative of our moderators. They’re doing a great job. Shout out to them! Let’s show them some love. It's not easy, trust me.
May God bless us all. |
Politics › Omenka/Mar2012: Can Nairalanders Request Their Accounts To Be Deleted? by Heavens1stson(op): 11:20am On Apr 06, 2025 |
I came across several threads by a user named MAR2012, where he repeatedly appealed to the forum owner, Mr. Seun Osewa, to delete his account. Prior to that, another user, Omenka, published a post on January 7, 2024, also requesting account deletion and even issuing threats. Yet, over a year later, his account remains active. Reading through the comments on these threads, one theme is consistent: users mocking the requesters and telling them to simply quit the platform rather than "disturbing" Seun with deletion demands. However, this response is legally and ethically problematic. Mocking data subjects and dismissing their right to be forgotten undermines their fundamental human rights. Users have the right to request account deletion, and the platform owner is legally obligated to comply, unless specific, valid exceptions apply.Legitimate Reasons Users May Request Account DeletionThere are several valid and legally protected reasons a user may wish to delete their account: 1. Privacy Concerns• Loss of trust in the platform’s data handling practices • Fear of data breaches, leaks, or misuse • Uncertainty about where data is stored and who has access 2. Withdrawal of Consent• The user no longer consents to the platform processing or using their data • Exercising their right to withdraw consent under data protection laws such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 3. Security or Safety Reasons• The account was hacked or compromised • The user feels unsafe due to harassment, stalking, or threats Security concerns are particularly pressing. I recall a colleague who quit Facebook but left his account standing. It was later hacked, and the hacker used it to post pornographic and offensive content. This went on for weeks before his family and friends alerted him. The reputational damage was severe. Why Omenka and MAR2012 Are Within Their Rights to Request Account DeletionThe right "to be forgotten" is explicitly provided in Section 34 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), signed into law on June 12, 2023, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This section, built on the foundation of Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution, the EU's GDPR, and Nigeria's earlier NDPR, grants data subjects the right to request the erasure of their personal data from a controller or processor (in this case, Nairaland/Seun) under specific conditions:• The data is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected • Consent has been withdrawn • The data was unlawfully processed • The data must be erased to comply with a legal obligation • The user objects to the processing and there is no overriding legitimate reason to retain it Controllers are required to erase the data without undue delay when these legal grounds are met. Importantly, a forum user’s data may include usernames, email addresses, profile information, and posts that can be linked to their identity. However, instead of full deletion, forum operators like Seun Osewa may opt for anonymization, such as changing the author name to “nobody” or “deleted user.”ExceptionsThere are valid exceptions to full deletion: If the data must be retained for legal compliance, moderation history, or pending law enforcement actions. However, the platform should clearly state the specific legal basis and provide documentation if required (e.g., court orders, police requests).Vague justifications such as "we might need it later" are not sufficient. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has the authority to audit retention practices and demand evidence of legal necessity. Mere speculative concerns are not grounds for denying erasure.RemedyIf the data controller (Nairaland/Seun) fails to comply with a valid deletion request, the user (data subject) can:
• File a complaint with the NDPC, or
• Pursue legal redress in court |

Politics › Adamu Garba Writes Open Letter, Accuses Yoruba Ronus Of Serial Betrayal by Heavens1stson(op): 10:13am On Mar 25, 2025 |
This comes a day after Reno Omokri issued a stern warning to the Yoruba people, urging them never to attack Northerners.Dear my old time friends, now attackers, the so-called Ronus, I am still your friend, but I’ll always value my opinion and views, regardless of your thoughts.
Note that I have no intention in leaving the APC, so technically our politics is the same, but we differ on approach to the Rivers. state crisis greatly.
As a young politician, I can’t have my name painted into an obvious, daylight extra-constitutional action as part of our democratic history. By doing so, I’m sure I’m learning from our current President. He was a staunch democrat.
As a Muslim, my religion told me to proclaim the truth and source for it, even if it is from someone I disagree with. I believe with all my heart that Peter Obi, like many other well meaning Nigerians, are right on the issue of Rivers SoE.
But I notice some of you, perhaps due to your incessant betrayal of those who worked hard with their resources, time and blood for the victory of a candidate from your region, you are always pushed by your guilty conscience, where when someone offered a contrary opinion of the current government, you jumped into cheap blackmail of ‘because he wasn’t appointed” etc.
For your information, that same soul of incessant betrayal of those who stood by you in the times of need is what is pushing you to the point of highest level of insecurity, where you see friends offering sincere advice as enemies, while you embrace a praise singing enemies who were never with you, just to cover your shame. This is an open knowledge.
At this point, you don’t know your friends from your enemies, you categorize every contrary opinion to enmity and attack against you. This is a typical example of those who lost their ways and are blinded in their hypocrisy.
The same man you betrayed serially over time, he came to us, we embraced him, supported him, worked for him, and successfully by the Grace of God, he’s now President. In our DNA there is no betrayal. We never betray our trust. But it’s not unusual if we’re betrayed. Time for reckoning is coming.
We belong to species of people who are naturally born free. Our ancestry traces to tens of thousands of years, we never slave to anyone. Even during the slave trade, we refused to be taken across the Atlantic, we fought our way, until the colonial masters handed over this territory to our forefathers because of our ardent resistance to slavery.
With this in mind, you shouldn’t expect a blindfolded loyalty from us to an obvious wrong doing. Even if some of us do, just wait for the right time, when the face saving is done, the truth shall come out them, eventually.
Your attitude to contrary opinion is doing more harm than good. It is obviously pushing you into a very bad political calculation as we lead to the 2027 election, with no clear path to victory.
We are sounding the alarm for you to make amends and corrections. We did in private, you refused, we came publicly, for the record, you attached us instead taking your time to fix these problems, you seem to be covered in your folly and imaginary self aggrandizement.
I am a believer in core truth. I am building a political profile based on this, I have not and will not sugarcoat anything just to win temporary applause from you.
You are free to continue with your cheap blackmail of “appointment” to cover for your serial betrayal of those who worked for your success, but I can tell you that reality is coming, where you will need everyone, once again, but will they be there for you?
Time shall tell.

Politics › Reno Omokri Attacks Dr. Reuben Abati For Calling For Tinubu's Impeachment by Heavens1stson(op): 12:27pm On Mar 19, 2025 |
It is rather unfortunate that Dr. Reuben Abati asked that President Bola Tinubu be impeached by the National Assembly for declaring a State of Emergency in Rivers State. That same National Assembly gave the President the power to suspend a Governor via the Emergency Powers (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill of 2018.
However, it is possible that people like Dr. Reuben Abati are either unaware of that law, perhaps think it is unconstitutional, or even have a different interpretation of the law, which is understandable and acceptable. In that situation, what a prudent man should say is that the suspended Governor and members of the suspended House of Assembly should go to court to seek a judicial interpretation of the law.
Also, Dr. Reuben Abati misinformed his viewers by calling President Tinubu a "dictator" for giving the administrator powers to make laws. President Tinubu did not say that the Administrator would make laws for Rivers State under the supervision of the Federal Executive Council. In fact, the President was clear that "The Administrator will not make any new laws."
The President said, "He will, however, be free to formulate regulations as may be found necessary to do his job, but such regulations will need to be considered and approved by the Federal Executive Council and promulgated by the President for the state."
It would be very sad for Nigeria's educational system if a PhD holder like Dr. Abati does not know the difference between a regulation and a law.
A law sets the legal framework for the government, while regulations provide the detailed rules necessary for compliance with the law.
In any case, using the platform of a cable news station to call for the impeachment of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces based on a limited understanding of the law and to misinform your viewers is rather callous and could trigger further instability.

Politics › Another Explosion Rocks Oil Facility In Rivers by Heavens1stson(op): 6:41pm On Mar 18, 2025 |
Unconfirmed reports say there is another explosion at an oil facility in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the Rivers State.
A source in the area alleged that the explosion happened on a Manifold Connecting federal a line in Okwawriwa area in ONELGA, Tuesday morning.
The source, who did not want his name mentioned, claimed that the people of the area only woke up to observe raging fire on the facility located some distance away from residential homes.
The source noted that the facility conveys petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, from the ONELGA and parts of Imo State to Brass in Bayelsa State.
This is coming less than 12 hours after the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, that transports oil to Bonny Terminal had gone into flames.
However, at press time it could not be ascertained whether the fire incidences at both facilities were caused by human activities.
But police in the state had in a statement earlier on the incident at qq1, Gokana LGA, said it has opened an investigation into the development.
The police also said they have taken two people in for interrogation over the explosion on Trans-Niger Pipeline. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/03/another-explosion-rocks-oil-facility-in-rivers/ |

Politics › 'Delibrate' Is Correct, 'Deliberate' Is Wrong – Wynd88 Defends Temitope Ajayi by Heavens1stson(op): 8:37am On Mar 18, 2025 |
In a heroic display of linguistic gymnastics, TikTok user Wynd88 has come to the defense of Temitope Ajayi, boldly declaring that delibrate is the correct spelling and that deliberate is, in fact, wrong.
Ajayi, a media aide to President Tinubu, found himself in the middle of a social media storm after calling for capital punishment against a corps member who criticized his principal. Following the backlash, he quickly attempted to clarify, insisting he meant the highest punishment under NYSC rules, not the death penalty. However, his explanation contained an even greater crime against the English language.
“The mob get their oxygen from misrepresentations and delibrate mischief,” Ajayi wrote, instantly sending grammar enthusiasts into cardiac arrest.
Social media users wasted no time pointing out that delibrate is, well, not a word. But Wynd88 was having none of it. In a furious counterattack, he lashed out at the critics, branding them as illiterates who lacked a good command of English. He insisted that delibrate was correct, and anyone saying otherwise was simply too uneducated to understand Ajayi’s advanced grasp of the English language.
To cement his point, Wynd88 took the ultimate stand, blocking and muting anyone who dared to challenge the divine correctness of delibrate.

Politics › I See Sanwo-Olu’s Hand In Obasa’s Impeachment And I’m Not Comfortable - Tinubu by Heavens1stson(op): 10:23am On Mar 14, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that he stepped in to facilitate the reinstatement of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly after detecting the influence of the state executive, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Obasa’s impeachment, SaharaReporters has learned.
According to sources present at the meeting Tinubu held with state lawmakers on Wednesday, the President expressed concern over Sanwo-Olu’s level of influence, stating that it was troubling for the governor to wield such power and that he had a vested interest in who became the Speaker of the Assembly.
SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday that Tinubu met behind closed doors with Speaker Obasa, Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, and other Lagos State lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was held to address the leadership crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“At the meeting, President Tinubu explained that the reason why Obasa escaped the impeachment was because he saw the indelible fingerprints of the Lagos executive led by Sanwo-Olu in the Speaker’s removal, and he found it unsettling why the executive would be interested in who should emerge as the Speaker,” a source familiar with the events at the meeting stated.
The lawmakers arrived at the Presidential Villa before 3:00 PM on Wednesday and were promptly escorted into the President’s office complex by security operatives.
Notably, Obasa, whose controversial reinstatement had deepened divisions within the Assembly, arrived separately around 3:00 PM.
The high-stakes meeting followed Tinubu’s decision to arrange a chartered flight to transport all Lagos Assembly members to Abuja in a bid to resolve the escalating political turmoil.
The crisis, which erupted after the impeachment of Obasa on January 13 over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement, has rocked Lagos politics.
Lawmakers had initially celebrated his removal as a victory for accountability, but behind-the-scenes pressure from APC leaders—backed by Tinubu—led to his controversial reinstatement.
Meranda, who was briefly installed as Speaker following Obasa’s ouster, was forced to step down under pressure from party bigwigs, reportedly as part of a deal to maintain party unity.
She was later compensated with the Deputy Speaker position, but many lawmakers remain furious over what they see as Tinubu’s high-handed interference
However, SaharaReporters learned that Tinubu lambasted Obasa for arriving late to the meeting.
“The Speaker was lambasted for coming late as always. The President spent the first 10 minutes to dress him down,” a source revealed.
Tinubu’s Resolutions
After hearing both sides—Obasa and the lawmakers opposing his return as Speaker—Tinubu urged the lawmakers to allow Obasa to retain his position.
He also instructed Obasa to withdraw his court cases challenging his removal.
“The President pleaded that we should allow the Speaker to return as the Speaker. And he directed the Speaker (Obasa) to go and withdraw his legal applications from the court,” a source said.
SaharaReporters also learned that Tinubu decided that the current principal officers and committee chairmen should remain in their positions.
“But regarding the issue of the clerk, after a heated debate in the presence of President Tinubu, he asked the lawmakers to allow the court to resolve it since the matter is already in court,” a source said.
“The Speaker wants the former clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, while all the other lawmakers want the current clerk, Taiwo Ottun, to remain as the clerk.”
On Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported that Lagos State Assembly under Obasa’s leadership had sought the deployment of armed security personnel to fortify the Assembly complex.
This followed the conflicting judicial pronouncements that have thrown the state's legislative arm into chaos.
A leaked letter addressed to the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), signed by the Clerk of the House, O. B. Onafeko, revealed Obasa’s request for additional security reinforcement at the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.
“I have the instruction of the Leadership of the House to request for Armed Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to provide security cover for the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as Honourable members and Staff,” the letter read.
The document further noted that the NSCDC personnel would work alongside 20 private security guards in securing the premises, indicating that the leadership anticipates possible unrest or confrontation.
This request came as at the time National Industrial Court (NIC) clarified that it did not order the reinstatement of Clerk Onafeko, contrary to reports circulated by Obasa’s camp.
The court had only issued a directive for both parties to maintain peace, pending further hearings.
During the last court session on March 12, 2025, Justice M.N. Esowe expressed shock over Onafeko’s forceful takeover of the Assembly Secretariat, using security operatives to eject Acting Clerk Ottun.
Counsel for the Assembly, O.O. Oniyire (SAN), accused Onafeko of manipulating the judicial process and spreading misinformation about his alleged reinstatement.
Meanwhile, the court scheduled March 18 for the hearing of all pending applications, further delaying a resolution to the crisis.
SaharaReporters previously reported that the leadership crisis in the Lagos Assembly had been worsened by a multi-billion naira procurement scandal involving official vehicles for lawmakers.
According to sources, the bone of contention was the purchase of 39 SUVs, a project originally approved by Obasa before his removal in January.
SaharaReporters learned that Obasa had reportedly sanctioned the procurement of 35 Toyota Fortuner SUVs and 10 Toyota Prado SUVs from Dubai at a staggering N7 billion.
However, during her brief tenure as Speaker, Mojisola Meranda reviewed the proposal, opting instead for a local dealer who supplied 32 units of 2025 Toyota Prado SUVs and seven Toyota Land Cruiser 2025 models for N5 billion—effectively saving the Assembly N2 billion.
This decision allegedly enraged Obasa, who demanded that all SUVs procured under Meranda be returned. Sources told SaharaReporters that Obasa’s original plan was to distribute 45 luxury vehicles, including four units for himself and his two wives.
In another controversial move, Obasa had also unilaterally replaced the legal team representing the Lagos Assembly in court without consulting the 35 lawmakers who had initially voted for his impeachment.
The move sparked outrage among the Assembly members and legal practitioners.
During a recent court hearing at the Ikeja High Court, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro adjourned proceedings to March 17 after multiple new applications were filed.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, representing the 35 lawmakers opposed to Obasa, condemned the Speaker’s move as illegal.
“A plaintiff cannot impose a lawyer on the defendants,” Falana stated, affirming that he and his legal team had been duly selected by the majority faction of lawmakers. https://saharareporters.com/2025/03/14/i-see-sanwo-olus-hand-obasas-impeachment-and-im-not-comfortable-he-could-be-powerful |
Politics › I Was Wrong About Buhari – Reno Omokri Makes U-Turn, Hails Former President by Heavens1stson(op): 10:18pm On Mar 13, 2025 |
The Humbling of The Butcher of Kaduna By General Buhari
I have to say that my impression of General Muhammadu Buhari changed for the better after he released his statement restating his loyalty and commitment to the All Progressives Congress and discountenancing Nasir el-Rufai, who had tried to use clever rhetoric to project the illusion that the former President was tacitly behind his treacherous move to the Social Democratic Party.
Indeed, President Buhari put fidelity to the country above attachment to ethnicity. I did not expect this from him, and now that he has done this, he has given hope to those of us who believe in the idea of one Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu gave the right hand of fellowship to General Buhari, who only became President because of the support of Asiwaju.
Throughout the Buhari years, through thick and thin, Jagaban stuck with Buhari, even at the expense of losing some peripheral support among fringe elements in the Southwest, who felt that Buhari was running a very imbalanced administration that majorly favoured his Fulani ethnicity.
Even when herdsmen killed Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the apex Lukumi-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasorantin, Asiwaju remained steadfast in his support for General Buhari.
And when he was slapped in the face by the Quisling, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who bit the finger that fed him and challenged the big masquerade that made him, Asiwaju did not blame General Buhari.
Since becoming President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not uttered one word of criticism against his predecessor, even though there were sordid revelations that would have caused another leader to question the preceding government.
Therefore, it is appropriate that President Buhari cast his lot with the incumbent President rather than with a man who President Obasanjo described as having "an inability to be loyal to anybody or any issue consistently for long, but only to Nasir el-Rufai."
I was wrong about General Buhari. He can be honourable and has demonstrated the courage of his convictions. If he had thrown his weight behind Nasir el-Rufai, it would have given that payer of killer herdsmen the ability to be a thorn in the flesh of the Tinubu administration.
But General Buhari's rebuff shows that he is little more than a nuisance whose attempt at name-dropping Buhari led to an embarrassing disappointment!
With this, other recalcitrants who were beginning to gather around el-Rufai will see him for what he truly is: a disgruntled schemer whose plan to ride on Tinubu's back and become a powerful minister who would control Kaduna from Abuja to eventually make his son the Governor failed spectacularly.
He is not fighting for Arewa. He is fighting for his relevance.

Politics › U.S. Congress Clears Trump To Impose Crippling Sanctions On Tinubu Government by Heavens1stson(op): 6:00pm On Mar 13, 2025 |
Nigerians constitute 90% of Christians killed worldwide annually; U.S. Congress clears Trump to impose crippling sanctions on Tinubu govt. The United States House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa Chairman, Chris Smith, has cleared the U.S. President Donald Trump to impose harsh sanctions on Nigeria over the killing of Christians in the West African country.
The House Subcommittee reached the resolution following a Wednesday hearing regarding the prosecution of Christians in the West African nation, noting that the wanton violence against Christians in Nigeria had significantly worsened in recent years.
“One of our distinguished witnesses today—Bishop Wilfred Anagbe of the diocese of Makurdi, Nigeria— travelled a long distance to be with us today and will testify, and this is from his testimony. Militant Fulani herdsmen are terrorists,” Mr Smith said during the hearing on Wednesday.
He said, “They steal and vandalise, they kill and boast about it, they kidnap and rape, and they enjoy total impunity from the elected officials. None of them have been arrested and brought to justice.”
The subcommittee noted that Nigerians constituted 90 per cent of Christians killed worldwide annually, citing a 2024 report by the Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa showing out of the 55,910 people killed between October 2019 and September 2023, 21,000 of them were abducted in the context of terror groups.
“Make no mistake, all of these attacks are based on religion, like I said, and diverting attention from it denies what we have seen with our own eyes. This “religious cleansing” needs to stop, and the perpetrators be brought to justice,” the report noted.
The subcommittee blamed the Nigerian government for not doing enough to protect protest Christians from persecution even though freedom of religion is enshrined in the country’s constitution while decrying instances where Nigerian court system has been weaponised to punish Christian population.
“Yet, the Government of Nigeria has failed to make progress against religiously motivated persecution of Christians despite religious freedom being enshrined as an essential human right in its Constitution,” the subcommittee noted in their report.
It added, “Likewise, Nigerian legal framework supports pluralism at both federal and state levels but glaring contradictions exist, especially with laws that criminalise blasphemy—some even carrying the death penalty.”
Mr Smith blamed the previous Joe Biden administration for removing Nigeria’s Country of Particular Concern (CPC) designation, which was placed on the country under first Donald Trump term at the White House despite U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom’s recommendations for four consecutive years between 2021 and 2024 to redesignate the country.
He recommended that Mr Trump should do more to help Christians in Nigeria, including placing the country on CPC designate on Nigeria and urged him to reach out to his Nigerian counterpart Bola Tinubu on the matter.
Mr Smith also asked the Trump administration and the U.S. Senate to be ready to work together to impose sanctions if the killing of Christians doesn’t stop.
“While I strongly believe that President Trump will again designate Nigeria a CPC—and do much more to assist the persecuted church including outreach to Nigerian President Tinubu —last night I reintroduced the resolution. I hope that we will have a robust discussion and that it will get marked up,” Mr Smith said.
He added, “Let me also say that, and I’ll put the rest of my statement into the record, this hearing we’re hoping will be a catalyst for action by our own government and also by Congress and of course , above all, the Executive Branch. The new president has a lot to do and I think he’ll do this and then, if necessary, impose sanctions. Where that has happened, there has been change. Where it doesn’t happen, the status quo, the killing fields continue.” https://gazettengr.com/nigerians-constitute-90-of-christians-killed-worldwide-annually-u-s-congress-clears-trump-to-impose-crippling-sanctions-on-tinubu-govt/ |
Politics › Peter Obi Has Nothing To Gain From An SDP Merger - Reno Omokri by Heavens1stson(op): 4:09pm On Mar 13, 2025 |
The first thing that would happen if and when Peter Obi joins the Southern Kaduna Genocide Party, otherwise known as the SDP, is that he would lose the Northern Christian votes, which would likely shift to President Tinubu and the APC because Nasir el-Rufai is what prevented them from voting APC in 2023.
Peter Obi has nothing to gain from a merger with the SDP and a coalition with Nasir el-Rufai. But el-Rufai and his murderous sons have a lot to gain.
If you are from Benue, Plateau, Taraba, or Southern Kaduna, Tinubu's administration marks the first time that the Presidency has not washed its hands off you and handed your cities, towns, and villages to herdsmen as Lebensraum.
Northern Christians are enjoying relief from the eight years of relentless herdsmen attack under Buhari, whose spokesman told them openly that "Giving land for ranching is better than death".
By the way, that is a direct quote from Femi Adesina!
Some of these people have only been able to visit their villages since 2023. Am I lying? You know what you guys endured under Buhari.
More than a hundred people were killed in Benue in one day under the immediate past government. Buhari ordered the Inspector General of Police to relocate to Benue, and the IGP disobeyed the order. Yet, Buhari did not fire him!
Is that not why General TY Danjuma had to cry out that:
"Our Armed Forces are not neutral. They collude with the bandits to kill people, kill Nigerians. The Armed Forces guide their movements; they cover them. If you are depending on the Armed Forces to stop the killings, you will all die one by one."
And today, deaths from terrorism and insecurity are at their lowest levels since 2014, and you want the bloodthirsty el-Rufai to be happy?
How can you, as a Northern minority, follow Peter Obi and romance a man who, on Sunday, July 15, 2012, tweeted a chilling message to you Northern Christians as follows:
"We will write this for all to read. Anyone, soldier or not that kills the Fulani takes a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes."
Many of these people still remember that famous (or infamous) Benue man who voted for Buhari only to have his relatives slaughtered by herders.
Should that happen to them under an el-Rufai Presidency, el-Rufai would give such killers a GCON National Honour!
Northern minorities need no crystal ball to tell them that if they follow Peter Obi into such a deadly supporter of APC merger, they have automatically agreed to be the new Darfur of Africa.
Remember, you guys don't have Amotekun like the Southwest.
The el-Rufais have not even gotten to Aso Rock, and the younger el-Rufai is already promising to wipe out Southern Kaduna from the face of the Earth!
He has apologised. But if you believe that apology, you deserve the Taqiyya treatment you will get!
As a Northern minority, ask yourself this question: Is it Peter Obi and his woman voice that will save you from el-Rufai and his sons and their shege ka fasa?
To paraphrase el-Rufai himself, if you plan on voting SDP, don't forget to buy your own body bag!

Politics › Anger As Grok Rejects Yoruba, Says It Prefers Igbo Title by Heavens1stson(op): 1:54pm On Mar 13, 2025 |
A mild drama unfolded on X today after Grok distanced itself from the Yoruba identity, instead declaring a preference to be identified as "Onye Igbo," even if just for a day. The response triggered mixed reactions, with some joking that an Igbo man might have tampered with the server, while others called on Elon Musk to fix his AI chatbot to ensure it remains neutral.
Many found Grok’s stance unsettling, especially since just yesterday, when asked which Nigerian tribe it would identify with, it chose Igbo. Even when skeptical users repeatedly questioned whether the response had been edited, Grok remained adamant.

Politics › My Wife Is More Beautiful Than Natasha Akpoti - Reno Omokri by Heavens1stson(op): 7:29pm On Mar 12, 2025 |
Dear Sani,
Thank you for your feedback. That is an excuse. My wife is fresher and more beautiful than Natasha. The difference in beauty between my wife and Natasha is like the difference in Nigeria under Jonathan and Buhari.
Yet, not only did I meet my wife at home, she has never ever lied to me, is painfully honest, and is not materialistic. She does not use make-up unless I prompt her.
It is all about upbringing. Your true albatross is your character. So, I'm afraid I will have to disagree with the former minister, Senator Ogunlewe.
Thanks again, and may God bless you.
