Agriculture / Re: How Profitable Is Garri Processing? Find Out Now!!! by heritagefarm: 2:10pm On Sep 04, 2016
garriguy:
wow, it's good that u broke even. Which means if it was successful, you have made more profit from the remaining 4bags.

There are the possible problems

1. Bad cassava: some cassavas are not meant for Garri but starch.

2. The cassava has spent more than 24hrs before processing. When u see that u wldnt av a choice but to let ur cassava spend more than 24hrs after harvest... This is what u have to do..

a. When u harvest, do not cut off the tubbers from the stem and do not cut off the leaves from the stems also. That way, it can spend up to 48hrs and still retains its potency.

b. Buy a grater and a presser and install on your farm. Grate and press, then export the cake to fry.

3. Too much fire while frying.

4. The cassava sold to you has spent more than 24hrs on the road. To know this, slash one tuber and judge by the moisture content.

5. You've been scammed. If you are not going to monitor the processing, dnt bother. It has happened to me a lot.
But dere's no way d cassava tubers would b more dan 24hrs. Cos from d farm to factory. Wat dey do here is dat, dey harvest on a whole day. While dey start processing d nxt day or third day. I agreed with d starch content of d cassava and as well d fire when firing. So Wat do U suggest I do know. Cos I'm scared of losing my money

the context of 4tons for 1 ton of Garri is coined to cater for the local varieties. On the contrary, 4tons of Garri gives u more than a ton.

But in order to knw more about how to recognize the varieties of cassava tubers, kindly request for the manual..

Secondly, the big fryer is handled by one person... U wan video proof? Contact me via whatsapp...

Garri is a very lucrative business. Either u process or repackage

For everything about Garri processing, including sales and all...

garriguy:
look at it this way:

4 tons of fresh tubers will give you 1ton of Garri (20bags of 50kg)

Majority of d local farmers plant local variety dat are low in starch content, we dat too make 1ton of garri from 4ton of cassava. Secondly, d frying try (4x8ft) can't b handle by one fryer. It'll b too big for an individual to fry on it

Agriculture / Re: How Profitable Is Garri Processing? Find Out Now!!! by heritagefarm: 8:21pm On Jul 24, 2016
Another thing is dat, frying of garri hasn't to do with the pan size. It depends on d fellow handling d pan. A person can use a big pan and may not b able to fry faster dan a fellow handling a small frying pan. To me, d highest no of bag dat can be fry by a fellow in a day is just 2bags. For effectiveness. If it's more dan dat in a day, den check d garri well. It's not fry dry.

Still on the move...

1. A truck of fresh tubers is about 3 tons (talking about the old Peugeot pickups and the likes. You will see them a lot at the villages). Let’s say you buy this at an alarming rate of 80, 000 naira, and by the time you buy more to make it four tons, you already spent 100, 000. shocked (jisos!!) shocked

2. Following the usual process and taking into consideration that the machine I always proffered for my clients’ is capable of eating up and vomiting this paltry four tons in just three (3) hours after peeling with machine (spending zero naira) or using the old way of hand peeling (5,000 naira).

3. Moving on, after another process, we finally get to pressing and we pressed with one of my preferred dewatering machine which is capable of pressing ten (10) bags at a time and ready to fry within six (6) hours! This costs us another zero naira! wink wink

4. Now, we follow another process and that leads us to frying. We can fry the old way or we fry the mechanical way. The old way will cost you 12,000 naira to fry 20 bags of 50kg (not true. It is far lesser but we are considering the worst case scenario).

5. Overall, we spent 100,000 for raw materials, 5,000 for manual peeling, 12,000 for frying, 6,000 for fuel (both diesel, petrol and or firewood/gas) and 5,000 for other labourers. All together, we have spent 130,000 trying to process. Let’s not forget transportation and logistics..em… let’s em… say, we spent 20,000. That brings us to 150,000.

Currently, a bag of garri costs between 10,000 and 11,000 from the factory or garri market and it is sold at 13,000 or 14,000 at the open market. Don’t forget that people make more by selling in small batches and not the whole bag. But that one no ‘kon-sign’ u… abi una wan chop profit?

Anyways, with the analysis, we spent 150,000 and sold 20bags at 10,000. That's a profit of 50,000 for every batch! And believe me, you can process 40bags in a week as a small scale factory owner! shocked cool

Now, the reason why our grandmothers don’t make more money from this product is because many don’t even produce more than 5bags due to…

1. Using the old method
2. Using of too much energy
3. Using old and slow machines
4. Very small work force!

The reason we will make more and produce more is the opposite of all that is above. With sophisticated machines and good planning..making us produce at least 10tons of fresh tubers in a week (that’s more than 40bags)

Here we are…

1. Is it also 3ton like d Peugeot pick up u mentioned wen loaded.
2. How do U measure d tubers, cos scales I see around are just upto 50kg (how do U measure 1000kg den). Or U just assumed it ll b 3tons.
3. We d pick up truck be filled to d build burglar or just d normal carrier level.
Thanks in anticipation as I wait for Ur respond
