A 25-year-old young man identified as Mohammed Jafar, attempted taking his own life by diving into the Lagoon from Carter Bridge in Lagos.

He was rescued by officials of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and handed over to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) who alerted the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

He has been transferred to Ebute Ero Police Station.

According to reports, a police officer was caught red handed while having sex with a married woman. It was gathered that the policeman was assigned to report for a night shift at his duty post in Lilongwe, Malawi.

But he reportedly told his bosses that he was not feeling well including his wife at home.Therefore, he was given an okay to go home.

However, some hours later, he was caught red handed having sex with another man’s wife after the husband tricked his wife that he was going to a funeral ceremony for 3 days.

Two suspected thieves got more than they bargained for after they were allegedly nabbed for stealing in Benue state.

It was gathered that the men were tracked down by village youths after allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Atakpa area of Otukpo.


They were forced to carry rocks on their heads and paraded round town by the villagers in a bid to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it is not under pressure to rig the forthcoming elections .

The commission also gave assurance that its cooperation with security agencies would lead to a pleasant voting experience for Nigerians .

The INEC Chairman, Prof . Mahmood Yakubu, said this in Abuja on Monday during a visit to the acting Inspector - General of Police, Mohammed Adamu .

He was reacting to the allegations by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that INEC would not be transparent in the forthcoming elections .

Yakubu said , “ This is to be expected in an election year when people make all sorts of insinuations but I want to tell you that we, as a commission, have never been under any pressure to do what is wrong .

“ We will never compromise our integrity to do what the law says that we shouldn ’ t and for the 2019 general elections .”

A young and gallant soldier has been killed while fighting Boko Haram insurgents at the battlefield in the northern part of Nigeria.


The soldier identified as Joel Miles, was killed recently in line of duty while purportedly making plans to travel abroad.

A close friend of the slain soldier, shared a chat they had before his death, which revealed that he had been in the bush/battlefield for three years.

The soldier who said he’s tired of his job, reportedly claimed that all his colleagues whom he arrived the post with – are dead.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, arrested Anu Ojo Olakonori, a self-acclaimed Pastor and founder of Angel on Guard Ministries for a N27.9 million fraud.

Olakonori was arrested following a petition by the victim. The complainant alleged that sometime in 2016, she was introduced to the suspect by a pastor of hers in Bauchi for prayers and cleansing because of the difficulties she was going through at the time.

The suspect under this guise started requesting for money from her and she made transfers to him in different tranches amounting to N27, 900,600 (Twenty Seven Million, Nine Hundred Thousand, Six Hundred Naira) only.

The attention of the new inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed has been called over the plight of a young man who has been detained for six days now at B division in Warri, Delta state.

According to reports, Monday Eboh who owns a boutique – was arrested six days ago by B Division Police officers in Warri over an undisclosed reason.

The young man has been denied bail and also allegedly denied access to his family members as his phone has been seized.

Say not to rape! A young lady has taken to social media to cry out after allegedly raped by a man.

According to multiple online reports, the lady claimed she was raped by a friend after visiting him as she disclosed that despite repeated pleas, the man still went ahead and forced himself on her.

Residents of the Abule Egba area of Lagos have raised the alarm over pollution of their sources of water supply by fuel that reportedly spilled from the petroleum pipeline ruptured by oil thieves on Wednesday , December 19 , 2018.

Our correspondent observed that wells , which were the main sources of water supply to houses on Arowolo Street, Adeyemi Close and Segun Akinola Street, among others , had been polluted by petrol after the pipeline was vandalised .

Some of the wells have been sealed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Our correspondent , who visited the place on Friday , observed that a red ribbon with caution inscription had been tied round the wells to prevent people from going close to them.

With the dry season setting in, residents said getting clean water to use had become a herculean task as women and children had to trek long distances.

A landlady on Segun Akinola Street, Mrs Ashabi Adeyinka, said she had to pay at least N 300 every day for clean water .

She said , “ The last December incident of pipeline fire is still affecting us . Fuel spilled into our well and other wells around here and this is making it difficult for us to live.

“ This house was built 29 years ago and we have been fetching water from the well since then. But now , we have to look elsewhere because the water is mixed with fuel. As you can see , some government officials came and sealed the well . ”

Report how residents of the area had been suffering since the incident started .

Occupants of Arowolo Street, including a food vendor , who spoke with our correspondent , said they had been having difficulties getting water for daily use.

Some residents said the water pollution did not start with the December 19 destruction of the pipeline . They claimed it began after the rupture of the pipeline on December 26 , 2007 .

Another resident on Adeyemi Close , Miss Hadijat Bamgbose, showed a well which she said had been polluted since 2006 to our correspondent .

The Coalition of United Political Parties has asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to outsource his campaign to the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, if he is fit for the nation’ s top job .

The CUPP also accused the All Progressives Congress of plotting to rig the 2019 elections and plunge the nation into an avoidable crisis.

Addressing journalists at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, the CUPP Chairman , Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola , said Buhari would go down in history as the first President to hire a proxy in a presidential contest .

The CUPP which consisted over 46 political parties , said Buhari must debate against its presidential candidate and account for his stewardship to Nigerians .

Oyinlola said , “ President Buhari has, indeed , said Senator Bola Tinubu would do the campaigns on his behalf. We hope he was misquoted, otherwise , Nigerians should simply ask him to step back from the contest and let his party put Tinubu forward as its candidate .

“ Buhari would go down as the first candidate in history to hire a proxy in a presidential contest . He is the one contesting, he should not be afraid to be the one to interface directly with Nigerians . ”

He added , “ We urge Nigerian people to insist that President Buhari must show that he is fit and able for the nation ’ s top job by leading his own campaign and by being at the presidential candidates ’ debate. ”

The CUPP chairman stated that the refusal of the President to sign the Electoral Act Amendment bill into law was part of plans to manipulate the polls .

He pointed out that the amendments were made in order to have better legal frameworks for delivery of free and fair elections , in accordance with Article 6 of the ECOWAS Protocol which states that “ The preparation and conduct of elections and the announcement of results shall be done in a transparent manner . ”

The Nigeria Police Force said it had obtained a warrant to keep embattled Senator Dino Melaye in its custody for 14 days.

The force spokesman , Jimoh Moshood , explained that the warrant which was obtained from the Federal Capital Territory High Court on January 9 , 2019 , to enable the police to investigate Melaye for criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide .

He disclosed in a statement in Abuja on Friday that Melaye was moved from the Police Clinic , Abuja, to DSS medical facility due to complaints from the senator that he was unwell .

The statement said , “ The Police medical team at the Police Hospital certified that Melaye is well and healthy to stand trial after treating him .

“ However, due to complaints from Senator Melaye that he is not well , the Police Investigation Team has taken him this afternoon ( Friday) to another government hospital , DSS Medical Facility in Abuja for further medical attention .

Three siblings were on Thursday burnt beyond recognition in their mother ’ s shop in Ugwuagba - Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Report gathered that their mother had kept the three siblings in her shop and went somewhere when the incident happened.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed , who confirmed the story , gave the ages of the children as five , four and three , respectively.

Mohammed , said , “ Two short containers used as a shop and a residence along the High Tension School Road , Ugwuagba- Obosi, in the Idemili North Local Government of Anambra State, were gutted by fire .

“ The owner of affected containers , one Blessing Nwafor , who was not around at the time of the incident , reportedly left three of her children namely Chimierie Nwafor , five years ; Onyedika Nwafor , four years ; and Esther Nwafor , three years , inside the shop and they were all burnt beyond recognition .

A former Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Clement Faboyede, has withdrawn his application seeking the transfer of his money laundering trial from Lagos to Ondo State .

At the Tuesday proceedings before the Federal High Court in Lagos , the defence counsel , Mr Eyitayo Jegede ( SAN ), a former Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice , told the judge that his client was withdrawing his application challenging the jurisdiction of the court .

Consequently , Justice Saliu Saidu struck out the application and subsequently adjourned till February 12 , 2019 for commencement of trial .

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission June last year arraigned Faboyede alongside Modupe Adetokunbo for alleged laundering of N 500m .

The EFCC claimed that in the charges that Faboyede and Adetokunbo received a cash sum of N 500m from one Owolanke Michael in the build - up to the 2015 general elections .

Faboyede was accused of making N 500m cash payment to the Ondo State Election Committee of the PDP without through any financial institution .
The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC , Ekene Iheanacho , said the defendants committed the offence on March 27 , 2015, adding that they acted contrary to Section 18 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition ) Act, 2011 and are liable to punishment under Section 16 (2 ) of the same Act.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday destroyed psychoactive drugs and other substances valued at over N 400m in Igbe , Ikorodu area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said the illicit items were recovered during a raid on criminal hideouts and two other sources based on intelligence gathering.

According to him , drugs and arms promote crime .
He added that it was based on this that the command intensified the fight against hard drug sale and consumption in order to stamp out criminality in the state.

Imohimi explained that since the beginning of the year , the command had been able to seize large quantities of cannabis , cocaine, heroin , Tramadol , codeine and other psychoactive substances .

The CP praised the synergy between the police and other security agencies , noting that the collaboration had paid off in the course of his service in the state.

He also thanked the state government for assisting the police in tackling crime in Lagos .

Due to storage space constraints, the CP added that the police had to apply to the court for permission to publicly destroy the illicit drugs , noting that the stores where they were kept had been overstretched.

Imohimi stated , “ Between the first day of January and now , we have been able to recover the following categories of drugs : Indian hemp, cocaine, heroin, Tramadol , codeine and other psychoactive substances, with a street value of well over N 400m .

“ One good thing I am happy about since I came to Lagos is the assistance I have been receiving from both the state government and other security agencies . I went into early partnerships with the other security agencies , which are well represented here today , and most importantly , with the state government.

“ This synergy with them has paid off as we are witnessing the destruction of these psychoactive drugs and other substances.

A 22 - year- old man , Oluwadamilare Temenu , has reportedly stabbed a technician with the Ikeja Electric, Oluwaseyi Amao, for disconnecting power supply to his residence at No. 13 Adesanya Street, in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi , Lagos State.

Report gathered that Amao and his colleague , Yusuf Tunde, had acted on a disconnection order by the management of Ikeja Electric, an electricity distribution company, which had marked some flats in the building for disconnection over unpaid bills , when they were attacked .

Amao, who said he gave the residents a month ’s grace to pay their outstanding bills , added that he was surprised that one of them would attack him for disconnecting power supply to his apartment despite owing over N 300,000 .

The 42 - year- old technician said , “ We were given a disconnection order to execute at No . 13 Adesanya Street, Mafoluku , Oshodi, last Thursday . The building has four flats; one flat has a prepaid meter, while the remaining three are on estimated billing; but we were given a disconnection order on the two flats with over N 200, 000 and N 100, 000 debts, respectively.

“ Before that day , I had visited the house for disconnection last month and one of the residents , the one using prepaid meter, had pledged to speak with the others to pay their debts , because it was only one wire that supplies power to the four flats. If we cut off the wire , the whole flats will be affected , including the one with prepaid meter, but they still refused to pay .

“ So, on the day I was instructed to execute the disconnection order , I explained to the residents, including the guy who stabbed me , that I was there the previous month and that since they had refused to clear their outstanding bills , I had been instructed to disconnect power supply to their apartment . He never argued with me , but I was surprised that he said I was looking for trouble when he saw me climbing the pole .

“ All of a sudden , he went inside his flat , brought out a crate of bottles and broke two bottles. I quickly jumped down and he chased after me and stabbed me . He first stabbed me in the neck and head; to avoid more harm , I held him tightly and told my colleague , Tunde, to inform our other colleagues to bring a vehicle so that we could take him to the police station. ”
His other colleagues eventually brought a vehicle , which conveyed Temenu to the police station.

An eyewitness , Segun Gbenro, said residents of the area condemned Temenu for stabbing Amao while performing his duty .

“ About two weeks ago , he (Temenu ) had a fight in the area and he stripped himself naked . He had no reason to stab the IE official ; even the people he lives with faulted his action and other residents of the area also condemned his action, ” he stated .

The Public Relations Officer , Ikeja Electric , Felix Ofulue , who condemned the attack , said the firm would explore all necessary means to bring to justice any person or group, who took the law into their own hands by inflicting bodily harm on its officials when performing their duties .

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Wednesday , said it had arrested a man , identified as Josiah Akinsuyi, for allegedly impregnating a 16 - year - old girl ( name withheld).

According to the command , the suspect claimed to be a pastor of a Christ Apostolic Church in Akure , the state capital .

The state Commandant , NSCDC, Mr Pedro Awili , while parading the suspect at the headquarters of the command in Akure , said the victim’ s father reported the case after the teenager had confessed to him that she was four months pregnant .

According to the NSCDC boss, a test conducted on the victim confirmed that she was indeed pregnant .

The commandant explained that the victim’ s family and the suspect were neighbours at Abusoro in the Ijoka area of Akure , adding that the suspect took over from one Sunday Babatunde , who allegedly had earlier been sleeping with the teenager.

Awili said , “ Our investigation revealed that the pastor had carnal knowledge of the girl three times and we have carried out a test, which proved that the girl was four months pregnant .

“ Investigation also revealed that the elder sister of the girl had something to do with the pastor, because the first time he wanted to have carnal knowledge of the victim, she did not cooperate and she informed her sister about it . The sister allegedly advised her to cooperate with the pastor.
