CrimeNSCDC Officer Develops Security Alert App In Ekiti by Highdee16(op): 7:52am On Feb 10, 2018
A mobile application to alert the officers and men of the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the case of emergency has been developed by an officer attached to the Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeoluwa Oyebode.

The mobile app named “EkitiAlert”, according to Oyebode has been submitted to the NSCDC Commandant in the state for the use of the corps in its operations.

Oyebode while speaking on the innovation said “EkitiAlert is an emergency security phone app developed to bring crime rate in Ekiti State to the lowest ebb, sequel to the modern definition of security as a function of response time to crimes.”

The app, he further explained, “is a call directory of NSCDC Ekiti State Command formations across the state on a dial.”

The app was presented to the state Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Donatus Izuka Ikemefuna, for onward transformation to the national headquarters of the security agency.

He said the development of the app was based on his observation that, “one of the major challenges of security is lack of timely information/intelligence prior or during criminal activities.”

He said, “The app is therefore designed to provide an opportunity for the general public to reach the Corps in Ekiti State (on her Core Mandates) on a one-button dial, across the 16 Divisional Formations, 3 Area Commands, all the outposts in the 132towns and villages.

“The Arms Squad, Critical National Infrastructures and Assets, the Anti-vandal Unit, Counter-terrorism Unit, the Agro-Rangers Unit, the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, the Private Guard Monitoring Unit, and the Public Relations Officer at a calculated response time of five minutes.”

According to Oyebode, the App (EkitiAlert), “is available on PlayStore for download, while much publicity shall be made on all available platforms (most especially social media) so that it can be widely accepted for use.”

Oyebode, who acknowledged that the app, upon its submission, had become the property of the NSCDC officially added that he had also submitted, “All registered SIMs for this same purpose.”

He said the submission of the app was the first phase of the project, pointing out that “effort shall begin in earnest to secure toll free lines (Phase II) so that callers will be encouraged by not having to pay for reporting crimes or security emergencies as they happen.”

He said the third phase shall provide the caller location per call, using the Google Maps and GPS, describing the innovation as, “a new dawn in the security architecture of the Nigerian state which I hope will encourage other officers, paramilitaries, the police, and the general public to develop special interest in the security of the nation beyond their take homes.”

He thanked the NSCDC for the opportunity and his colleagues who he said had helped him in the quest to develop the innovative application and called on other Nigerians in the business of providing security In the country to look inwards and find ways of making the job easier.

PoliticsEkiti Is Police State, Fayose Locks Whoever He Hates – Senator Waku by Highdee16(op): 12:39pm On Feb 09, 2018
A former member of the National Assembly Senator Joseph Waku says Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose is in control of police in his state.Waku, who said Fayose locks anyone he hates in police cell, insisted that Nigeria is not matured for state police.“On state police, Nigeria has a problem”, he told Vanguard.

“Let me give you a typical example. Ekiti State, is a police state. Whoever the governor hates, he just locks up.

“But in an ideal situation, state police is the best because they will be more familiar with the terrain. But with political maturity, we will get there.

“Nigeria is getting to that maturity stage, sometimes circumstances force you to be mature. I think we are getting there,” Waku said.

On Federal Government’s plans to establish cattle colony, Waku stated that it is a stupid thought.

“That is the most stupid and idiotic thought; very irresponsible thought. What is wrong with ranching? America has one of the biggest land mass in the world, yet you do not see cows on the street.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Osinbajo has admitted that state policing system was the only way to go in the wake of the security challenges in the country.

PoliticsEkiti, Osun Guber Election Outcomes Will Shock PDP, APC – Accord Party by Highdee16(op): 2:10pm On Feb 07, 2018
As the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun States draw nearer, the Accord Party in the southwest has said that its candidates would emerge winners of the two polls.

Mr Dokun Babarinde, the National Vice Chairman of Accord Party in Southwest, made the declaration on Wednesday in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), after its zonal meeting in Ibadan.

Babarinde said the performance of Accord Party in the elections would shock the two major parties: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Accord Party is winning followership every day because people have identified the party as the alternative to APC and PDP.

“The might of the PDP and APC had been tested in both Ekiti and Osun States but failed the electorate, so there is no doubt that the voters will reject them and opt for a party that is ready to savage them.

“Accord Party is the only alternative that is set to liberate the people from the shackles of the two major parties.

”We are strategising to ensure that the party presents sellable candidates as our flag bearers in the elections.

“Also, manifesto of Accord Party in the two states will be people-friendly, devoid of deceit and failed promises’’ he stated.

One of the party’s governorship aspirants in Ekiti, Mr Akogun Banji Ojo, spoke in the same vein.

He said Accord Party in Ekiti had all it would take to win the forthcoming governorship poll.

Ojo said no party in Ekiti had the political weight and charisma to liberate the state from its underdevelopment, except Accord Party.

He said Accord Party would maximise the opportunity of the lingering internal crisis rocking the two major political parties in the state, to contest and win the election.

Meanwhile, Dr Israel Adeniyi, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Accord Party, has charged members of the party to continue working for the progress of the party.

Adeniyi gave the charge at the venue of the same meeting in Ibadan, on Wednesday.

He said the commitment of every member is vital to the progress of the party at the unit, ward, state and federal levels.

Adeniyi expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious in the 2019 general elections, urging members not to relent in wooing new members into its fold.

He also cautioned leaders of the party in all the states of the zone to maintain internal democracy and be fair to all members.

Newsmen report that executives of the party from Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti and Osun attended the meeting.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), months back, announced July 14 and Sept. 22 as dates for Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections respectively.

RomanceEkiti Civil Servant Seeks Dissolution Of 3-yr-old Marriage Over Threat To Life by Highdee16(op): 12:14pm On Jan 31, 2018
A 42-year-old civil servant, Mr Oluwafemi Owoeye, on Tuesday, asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court to dissolve his three-year-old marriage to his wife, Abigail.

The petitioner, a resident of Araromi street, Iluomoba-Ekiti, had approached the court for dissolution of the union on grounds of threat to life, lack of respect and frequent fighting.

He told the court that the respondent, who he met in 2013, had a son for him on Feb.12, 2016 although there were no formal marriage rites between them.

The petitioner told the court that the respondent often threatened to stab him to death with bottles whenever they had any misunderstanding.

He further told the court that the respondent often visits his second wife at home to threaten her.

The petitioner assured the court that he would be paying N4,000 as monthly feeding allowance for his child through the court.

But Abigail, a trader, denied all the allegation levelled against her by the petitioner.

Abigail told the court that she and the petitioner had been living separately since May 2017, adding that he had not been performing his duties as a responsible husband.

The respondent said she had never threatened the petitioner with bottles, alleging that it was the petitioner who deliberately abandoned her and their child.

She explained that since her son was born, the petitioner had only given her N300, adding that he never bothered to pay for her delivery, child medical bills and food.

The respondent prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and compel the petitioner to be responsible for the education bills of his child.

She also requested for N15,000 as monthly feeding allowance for the child.

The respondent called a witness, her 87-year-old father, Joseph Oladele, who claimed the petitioner impregnated his daughter and abandoned her to suffer.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after hearing from both parties, adjourned the case till March 1 for judgment.

PoliticsINEC To Adopt Electronic Transmission For Ekiti, Osun Guber by Highdee16(op): 7:30am On Jan 31, 2018
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would transmit results of the Ekiti and the Osun States governorship elections electronically. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu disclosed this when he visited the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbata yesterday. Yakubu said INEC was committed to deepening democracy by deploying technology in elections.

According to him, the commission “conducted simultaneous electronic and manual transmission of results in some major elections. “We are planning for full deployment this year in the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states later this year, thereafter we intend to deploy the system in the 2019 general election,” he said.

Yakubu emphasised that the time had come to electronically collate and transmit election results as the measure would ensure faster transmission of results more accurately from the polling units to the various collation and declaration centres.

However, NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Danbata expressed the commission’s commitment to ensuring the success of the 2019 polls and assured that the commission would not renege on its corporate social responsibility. Danbata agreed that the deployment of electronic technology would assist collation of results but expressed fear over non-availability of 4-G network in the northern part of the country

PoliticsI Will Overrun Fayose, Deputy In Free, Fair Primary – Adeyeye by Highdee16(op): 1:45pm On Jan 30, 2018
The former Minister of Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye has formally declared his intention to vie for the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he will defeat the state governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose and his deputy Professor Kolapo Olusola in a free and fair primary .

Adeyeye who promised to offer the governance the people of the state deserve if elected said efforts by the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose to impose his preferred candidate, the deputy governor, Professor Kolapo Olusola, on other aspirants will be frustrated.

Addressing his supporters, Adeyeye who said Governor Fayose was privileged to be governor of the state cautioned him against playing God on the issue of Ekiti governorship election.

According to him, “I have confidence in Uche Secondus-led NWC to conduct a free, fair and credible poll in Ekiti. I served the PDP as the National Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee for 18 months and we conducted a credible convention that brought the new executives.

“I believe that they will not pander to the bidding of Governor Fayose, who has turned himself into a thin god. Let me say this, I will defeat Fayose’s candidate in a free and fair primary. I will use myself to lay a foundation that you can emerge the flag bearer of a party even without governor’s support, because nobody can play God. It is God that anoints.

“But anything outside a credible primary to field a strong candidate like me, then it means the party has shortchanged itself in Ekiti in the July 14 governorship election”, he said.

Adeyeye promised to work hard to make Ekti the hub of higher education in Nigeria while also investing heavily in the areas of rice and cocoa production to boost the economy.

Meanwhile, an online medium had reported that there was drama at the new wing of the Senate complex in Abuja after a National Assembly official physically assaulted Senator Olujimi, just as it was reported that she directed her aide to “slap” the legislative official, who immediately responded in kind and also reported that that the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN staff however slapped the senator and not her aide.

PoliticsChoice Of My Deputy Will Prevent Ekiti From Returning To Slavery – Fayose by Highdee16(op): 6:45pm On Jan 29, 2018
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has said that the choice of his deputy as sole candidate of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2018 poll remains sacrosanct.

The Governor said the decision was to prevent the state from returning to economic slavery.

Fayose described the stiff opposition to his action by some party stalwarts as misplaced, urging them to seek alternative platforms to realize their political ambitions.

Former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Senator Biodun Olujimi, Ambassador Dare Bejide and a host of others are not pleased with choice of Professor Kolapo Olusola as Fayose’s successor.

Adeyeye, who hails from Ise Ekiti in Ekiti South Senatorial District, formally declared for the plum seat in Ado Ekiti last week Wednesday.

The former Minister, as well as the Senator representing Ekiti South in the Senate, Mrs Biodun Olujimi, former Nigeria’s envoy to Canada, Amb Dare Bejide and immediate past Commissioner for Justice and known Fayose’s protégé, Barrister Owoseeni Ajayi, had jointly condemned the adoption of Olusola as the PDP sole candidate.

They described the action taken by a section of the party as too pedestrian and antithetical to democratic norms.

Fayose, who spoke at the rally held at Okesa area of Ado Ekiti, said he was not in any way rattled by the negative utterances being hurled against him by anti-Olusola aspirants.

He said: “The PDP has taken a position; I say we have taken a position and we have no apologies for that and the position is that Olusola should take over after me as the governor of Ekiti.

“It doesn’t matter to us how many people that are abusing us by action. They are even free to join our adversaries, but we will defeat them as the God liveth.

TV/MoviesBbnaija 2018: Top 5 Things Nigerians Want To See In Season 3 by Highdee16(op): 9:31pm On Jan 28, 2018
In just a few hours, the 2018 edition of reality show Big Brother Naija would hit the screens. For housemates, the 100 day stay in the house would change their lives forever.

As the BBNaija 2018 kick off, here are 5 things they’re looking forward to seeing to this year.

Ebuka’s Fashion Statement

Ebuka returns as host of the show and we are sure that the media personality who broke the internet with his bold Agbada statement at BankyW and Adesua’s wedding has more surprising show-stopping styles to wow the audience this year. Remember his famous ‘bulge’ on the live show stage? So Ebuka, we are watching you o.

Live Romance

What’s not to love about watching people from diverse backgrounds come together, develop friendships which eventually evolve into whirlwind relationships. It’s not a hoax, watching TV characters fall in love is an amazing experience. It is interesting to note that former Big Brother housemates like Elikem and Pokello met and got married off the Big Brother show and are still waxing strong.

Undiluted Entertainment and Drama

The hate on Tboss especially for saying she deals only with men who own private jets, the love for Efe and his ‘Based On Logistics’ slogan, the romance between Bisola and Thin Tall Tony (whose gimmicks would later get him evicted by female Twitter) or Gifty’s fake ‘Mrs Malaprop’ accent, all made us glued to see what will become of each controversial moment, and these, my friends, is what we expect to see this year.

M0ral Lessons

When Tboss who was groped by her fellow housemate, Kemen, while she slept, the world waited for necessary actions the organisers of the show would take as their actions greatly determined if the show would be made or marred. He was eventually disqualified from the house and sent back to Nigeria, this move clearly showed that among other things, Big Brother is out here to emulate good m0rals.

The Biggest Winner of the night

The three-month-show will eventually come to an end with the winner who will emerge from votes from all over the world. However, the last two weeks of the show is always something exciting to witness. It’s a time when Nigerians split allegiance between their favourite housemates fiercely campaigning for their favourite housemates. The tussle for BBNaija last year saw Nigerian rapper, Efe Ejeba emerge winner through a public revolution via his ‘based on logistics’ catchphrase but this year, the stakes just got higher! The winner is set to take home N45million naira worth of prices.

So who will emerge winner of Big Brother 2018? Let us see what this season holds shall we?

EducationASUU Releases Press Statement On EKSU Strike by Highdee16(op): 8:20pm On Jan 28, 2018
Following strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) about two weeks ago over the non-implementation and demands of the Government, ‎Academic activities have been grounded at Ekiti State University, among others, resulting to students traveling back home after some weeks of resumption while students and parents are left unhappy with the decisions made by ASUU.

Ekiti State Government have now made matters worse by not having a peaceful negotiation with ASUU some days back. The Union came down low to negotiate with the government but were left scrambled by the Governor. This now leaves the possibility of the strike been called off on Monday to be very low.

The Union thereby declares that if their demands are not met by the government, the strike won’t be called off.

Speaking with Corporate Press, a lecturer noted that lecturers are been paid half salary since last year due to the fact that there have been deductions of Cooperative arrears and Pension Funds from their salaries without remitting the deducted amounts to the Cooperative and Pension Fund Administration respectively, and also the increment of tax by government which is not encouraging.

ASUU have now demanded that the government remits both Salary and Cooperative up to date (December), whereby the last payment for the Cooperative was April and Net Salary was in October. They also demanded the reversal of their tax funds and that the percentage of pension funds deducted from their salary should not be deducted any longer since the funds are not been remitted to the Pension Board.
