Yes, nairaland is a somewhat an online platform used by Nigerians, mostly youths for informations, entertainment and for sharing ideas.

Many active and controversial monickers has come and gone, those that you mentioned are neophyte in this space as we have had different shades of person's here.

We have those that rarely comment on issues, introverts and extroverts, tribalist, analyst, promoters scammers and a host of others, you see the good, bad, and ugly here.

It is really refreshing.. the politics space is like mad session. Everyone expresses their opinions in brutal truth. I actually came up with this post thinking what it will be like to have like a sit down regarding some of the topics that gets discussed here.
On the idea front, I have noticed that too. Same with advices with relationships, family and stuffs.

Since I am mostly active within this section on NL, it occured to me to ask what are other people's experience so far generally on NL.

While we may not think of it consciously, but in a way NL is probably the most popular and if not the only interactive platform for Nigerians on the whole internet. FB, IG, X, TikTok, etc are all global space platforms. NL is Naija own

Your analysis is plain and very open and also acceptable, however there are few insights I'd like you to consider.

First it was with the SW quota as to their placement in high office. From OBJ in 1999-2007, which was a SW/Northern Alliance democracy, in reality the administration was still a shadow of the old military world clothed in democracy. On paper it is a democracy, however the system and engine that runs it was still a model of the military era, only that in that time, it was less visible. There was a reason OBJ wanted that third term of his and his popularized constitutional amendment to terms in office for the presidential seat.

Even when that didn't work, Nigeria while on paper is a democratic nation was still being ruled then by a lot of military men. After his Tenure, for some reason OBj never agreed with ATIKU. No one has ever been able to find out the depth of what that rift was and still about till today, nevertheless it was time for a new election. His assertion towards Atiku was while Atiku may have wore uniform as a Custom Officer, he is was not soldier. And OBJ knowing it was the time for the North didn't feel comfortable handling over to ATIKU then. Refused to back his own VP to be the next president. Even though while he wasn't the only one who held that resolve, it was clear during that time some Northern Major power brokers actually felt that way too.

When Atiku wouldn't happen, as per public expectations, some high level people caught what was going on, this same present president who is also from the SW was brutally against OBJ then that it should be in fairness in the spirit of democracy and that it is the North and the SS/SE turn, that any involvement of the SW should be support for democracy and went against the notion of the SW having either a viable Presidential Candidate or VP. The two highest seat of governance in the country. OBJ didn't take it lightly and wanted to punish him by ceasing Lagos State allocations, Tinubu fired back at him that the internal revenue of Lagos is sufficiently enough for Lagos State. Saying it out loud that Lagos is a self sustaining economy inside Nigeria. OBJ still hasn't fully forgive Asiwaju for that disrespect.

With OBJ and them Babangida still very much active in forming the new Nigeria and spearheading it, they wanted a Northerner with military ties, someone not as Rigid as Buhari then but someone that commands enough respect and has the right military name, and most importantly open to reasoning and extensively a passively resolved man as his VP hence, they settled on Yar'Adua and GEJ. Two of the most fairly elected president since the creation of Nigeria. However their miscalculated move either deliberately or not about late former president Yar'Adua's health status, gave GEJ the chance to assume the presidency role even while it was not the South turns to rule. The North saw that then as an OBJ orchestration, felt played by OBJ because it was clear GEJ was his man, that power play by OBJ again either deliberately or not created the distrupt of Power Rotation, that same distruption fueled Tinubu support for the North, and wanting to get out from under OBJ thumbs.

And just as the OP hinted, while it was a calculated strategy because there was no way he could have won if had been campaigning against a Southern president by himself, he also calculated that with Buhari being an ex military president himself and a core Northern man, the status quo that his the military powers that be then will back him up and so he saw a chance and caught it. OBJ saw the sleek move but because of his distaste towards Atiku, he let Tinubu influence outside Lagos grew to the proportion of choking GEJ out of office.

Following the rotational quota system of North and South agreement, Tinubu pulled all his lever for Buhari come 2015, and won the election for the North and Buhari and extensively cementing his own place as the next Southern candidate. So when Buhari left, he came out bouyant in style after to say it is the turn of the South, because to him GEJ was in someway A Northern administration and partly SE/SS quota, his own personal interpretation not the way everyone else sees it, so invariably to him if they say it is the turn of the South, since the SS/SE has already cashed in their chips through GEj it is the turn of the SW and who in the SW is heavy enough, he declared himself the ultimate heavyweight and claimed it by proclamation that it is his Turn.. Emi LOkan, even what he said first was Yoruba LOkan.

Now that the South is finishing up its term, the North also feels it their turn. While they may or not have made up their mind whether to boot Tinubu out of office now or just simply wait their turn, and pick the right candidate with the APC or ADC when that time comes it's up to them. In both cases, they will win, if they rally support for ATIKU which I don't think it will matter as he has his own followers, or they will stick with Asiwaju and work on to counter Atiku's claim with the candidate of their choice come 2031 and wrestle the North out of Atiku's hand, that will also unfold with time. If these structure is still there, that might be the next cause of action and they will likely get the votes from the SW just as they did during the PDP era.

The SW has never been greedy, they followed through and through what was established in the spirit of power rotation in Nigeria. As to why the SE has never been the most popular in national participations until now, well most Nigerians do know why. The constant agitation towards disunion of the country has been a major blockade to the benefits they deserve. However times are changing, and if Obi really is serious as the OP hinted, he really needs to start playing the long term game and not strategy of short term ambition

The whole population of major blocs that came out from all SE states combined during the last election was about 2.2million votes.

The number of votes that came out from Jigawa, Katsina and Kaduna alone, more than 3million votes.
And that's not even mentioning the juggernaut of votes recorded in Kano State alone which covers roughly 75% percent of the whole SE votes.

They are not telling you not to vote, they are simply stating the facts.
Obi had Datti during the last election didn't he. He is also a Northerner.

Some of Obi's votes from the North came from Nassarawa where he recorded 191k votes against Atiku 147k and Tinubu's 172k,
then there's Plateau where he recorded 466k against Tinubu 307k votes and Atiku's 243k votes, the rest was not so much to speak of. Just counted as among the others.

Take Zamfara Approximately 1k votes,
Yobe 2k,
Sokoto 6k,

came up a bit more in Niger where he got 80k, but in comparison to the Tinubu and Atiku who both got Over 3x and 4x of that respectively,
he also got some bread from Adamawa like 105k but Atiku won with 4x that,

6k in Katsina
Kebbi 10k,
26k in Gombe and
28k in Kano where over 1.6millions votes were recorded..

Why him in particular. Do not get me wrong, I do believe the south east should be included more in the fold of project Nigeria now if not even more than ever, but the question remains why this man in particular, if it is about time it is understandable, however with the sort of track record he has, and his level of experience in high level governance he is not the best candidate for the South in general and for the South East after waiting for that long to be included in national dialogue.

Perhaps some of these reasons you will be able to see, Obi sounds closely too much a fantasy for euphoric expression without a concrete ideology or agenda points, in a way his is like children story to a lot of people and not just the power brokers alone. For one, most of supporters are driven by emotions and not loyalty or something deeper that can be identified with, but mainly emotions which in itself are very good things if cultivated properly. But his contradictory nature makes it impossible (no pun intended) for most major serious backers to want to rally behind him, even ordinary people who wants diversity and inclusiveness in government and the country as a whole sees him as a big NO for now.

Atiku and Tinubu for all intent and purposes, has a clear and focused ideologies. People who are backing them knows they won't fix Nigeria problems all at once, that is merely wishful thinking, however they are sure to a certain level of expectations of what they will benefit, what Nigeria as a continuous project will benefit and furthermore what others doors will still remains open to be explored for future development and the next ones be it in terms of development, regional rotation of power or State benefits. Those are plans that are easy to follow and easy to amend if need be.

Compared with Obi's claims as to having the solution to everyone's problem, if anything that just sounds childish to most people ears that's why a lot of people get annoyed and feel obligated or want to correct his supporters that the man's view on Nigeria problem is not the way he sees is. But then again his supporters turns around and says everyone is afraid of him and that is why they are always talking about him which only further buttress people point.

Every sensible human knows you can not fatten up a lean child in a day by stuffing all manners of food down the child's throat. It does not work that way, same as a man who says he wants a child in a month, you will not achieve it by impregnating 9 women in one month, like it or not you will still wait for that 9 months. Certain things, take steps, and methodical planning. If he his serious about the Nigeria project which I think he meant in good heart when he started, the reality is, he lacks the experience in high governance roles, does not quite have the exposure yet, and not seasoned battled or even battle ready to that extent. Let him seat back, take lessons even the bad ones and gain more experience as to what it takes to leads, fix problems, present analytical dominance in facts and informations available to him and how he will use them to solve some specific problems or a major problem, present his traction record and his capability to act and execute, then he will be listened to and that makes more sense than what he is doing by going up and down from one party to the other threatening to quit the party like it's 5 o'clock after school gathering for children and appealing to the sentimental idea of being from the East and people should be pitying him. That's just childish.

Leaders cut across all cloths. Even his supporters who are critiquing everyone else everyday be it Atiku or Tinubu, both of these men still posses a sort of pinache and high formidable allure of dominance whenever they walk in any room. The man level is not there yet and same goes for the level of command his experience and presence can dictate. Watched a clip on SM where a guy I think the one called gehgeh was saying he entered a flight with Obi and People weren't really in awe of him or thrilled to be exposed to him, compared something like that to 2023 when he was riding high on public emotions. As said earlier, emotions are as good it can be is if properly cultivated, well directed, and properly acted upon with sincere show of ones Will. Emotion alone It's like the Euphoria of falling in love, great at beginning, then everything settles and clarity sets in. That is the state of Obi is in. Emotional support and sentimental ideologies can only get you to a certain point. He needs to step up and up his game and shows he's got what it takes because at the end that is what separates A Man in the Universe of Men, and Men in the world of humans, the same separates Guys from the Boys and eventually Boys from Small small pikins arenas which is where he currently locked and playing at.

If it is broken down properly, in terms of funding an election, Obi's war chest is still significantly lower, ranging in between less than 100million USD, compared to Atiku or Tinubu with the capability of raising 3x or even 5x of that effortlessly.

To do a bit of recap, Atiku owns and operates a major stock holdings in some of the biggest refineries that accepts Nigeria's crude, these has since reduced since Tinubu became President as Buhari was still very lenient with Northern Businessmen, besides that he seats on a numerous board of trustees and directors for company's you don't even have any idea what they do or that they exist but simply shell companies created for the sole purpose of moving money around for Tax avoidances. Besides access to these funds, Nigeria domestic banks will line up behind him, and he practically bankrolls some major banks in the country, and some banks within the African continent.
Compared to Obi, who on the other hand has the majority of South Eastern HNWi, Diaspora support, also some banks, ears of the manufacturers which is where he is rather stronger than both Atiku and Tinubu, but it is a bitter sweet situation as those manufacturers and their sector are partially indebted to the major Banks.

When you factor in the fact that extensively Atiku also has some major heavy Northern HNWi, even though he does not have so much from the South, he however makes up for that through his reach and relationships with some of the major players in the Middle East. He didn't particularly stayed in Dubai because he like the Weather? Besides Contacts and relationships, their other interests and interested parties who also wants to get in on the Nigeria play, and he is one of their entrances, they support and he owes them the obligation to open Nigeria's door to the Middle Eastern HIgh Net worths completely, most of them who are very wary of the unpredictable nature of Nigeria SWners, and not totally agree able to the Radical rigid systems of the the core north, while in many ways sees the SE Christian faith as a big conflict to their religious ethics.. So he has them too and even at that he really wants to systematically level the playing field with China's influence because of his close tie with Singapore.

So to go back to what you said. Obi is big enough sure, but his influence in terms of access to funding an election is still a bit lightweight. And in politics generally and not just in Nigeria, capital is a major player. Besides Access, Post, Deals, Contracts, a heavy War Chest also counts, and in a place like Nigeria where politics runs on stomach infrastructure economy, without it, a presidential candidate do not really have much to begin with. The ideology behind the system Obi is running with can and will only sustain him up to a certain point. Then everything stops after that.

The IAEA has never for once questioned Isreal nuclear capability, but yet have been bearing down heavily on any Arab State that sees a nuclear program as a deterrence against external aggression. If it is Banking and Economy, Isreal and Jewish customs surely are world class no doubt about that, but military might, they are not really that strong. They just have a lot of shield from the western world which allows them to operate with impunity.

Conclusively, world peace matters, and not just Isreal peace. If these stalling continues, the war will still rage on, maybe it will die down for now, but it is merely secondarily postponed.

Building a proper credit score has never been more important in this new Nigeria. While many seems to be condescending about it because it has never been a system integrated into the financial ecosystem of Nigeria, not a lot of people understands the importance of having a good and proper credit is.

I see so many people abusing it like it's free money they can just take and relax with, while getting the funds may serve immediate purpose, the long implications of improper management of their credit score is more damaging than actually using it in the first place.
Being that this is still in it's growing stage, a lot of people still have the opportunity to correct their mishaps. Loans are good if it is applied for a specified priority and directed towards an avenue that can breed additional Capital.

The simple most interesting fact about it that most people don't get is, an institution is trusting you with their own capital, opening their door to you that you can both grow and benefit, and if you are a good earner and a good bankable entity, there are no limits to how far you can build with it slowly.
Especially when you are still in the micro economic space. A good credit score is a great tool.

Our IT/Tech graduate guys, should also try and shift their focus on website where Nigerians can check their credit scores, find a way to integrate with the credits bureau. In time, it will come handy and the landscape is still very much free and open as it is. They can engage and drop their pitch deck, you never know who can fund and vest in your start up. Even in the almighty western countries, government policies favors the Rich more than it does any other classes.

Point is, when you get news like this, identify everything going on in that sector, there's always an opening no matter how small you might think, there is always one. Could be services you can render to them from their drilling site, to refineries gates, ports, all this are interconnected weave, needs one service or the other. Being a Nigerian is enough, as it doesn't necessarily mean you even have to be in the oil and gas sector to partake, doesn't mean you have to be an engineer, a degree holder or what not. Get closer to where that thing is happening, meet people offer your service in aspects that you can and have available to you and your capital structure, it could be food, hospitality, laundry, sewing, grooming, cleaning services, work boots supplier, delivery services, whatever it is that people use in that sector and so forth, know about it and find a space for yourself. While some people may say it is not that easy, that might be true, but in reality nothing is ever quite easy, even armed robbery is not that easy.

Those are just mere instances of how people build on governmental provisions. In another view point, Northerners knows Atiku is for Vendetta in some ways, and they will rather do everything they can to go on with a working system in place when they know after Tinubu's Tenure, power is coming back to the North. And more than anything a solid one party system is already gaining heavy momentum because they are not coming over for just regional power struggle anymore, but within a political party that they can easily rotate power between South and North without too much hassle.
