Politics / APC Inner Caucus Plots Ekweremadu’s Fall by hilltop93(m): 1:32am On Jul 31, 2016
They argued that Ekweremadu would use his position to further entrench the Peoples Democratic Party, if they allowed him to remain A leading party member from the zone, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution said, "We are not ignorant, we know that the new Senator from our zone, being a green horn and the only one, cannot unseat Ekweremadu."We will be willing to trade him in for a grade ministry and a choice committee.

A chieftain of the party and member of the South-East caucus, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said, "To be honest we candidly advise Ekweremadu to step down for our brother, Sen. Ben Uwajumogu."His first excuse for usurping the APC's slot was to represent Ndigbo.

"The party will come up with several options and at that point in time, the replacement will surely come from the party. Nobody will move against the party. The party will liaise with us and we will all agree." Another member of the APC caucus, who spoke to Sunday PUNCH on condition of anonymity, said the ruling party was banking on the Senate Standing Rules forgery case to remove Ekweremadu.

He said it was then that the APC senators who voted for Saraki and Ekweremadu, which was against the choice of the party, would fall back to the side of the party.

He said, "The real Standing Rule says that if there is a division, everybody will stand up and declare where they stand. How can you then stand before the camera and vote against your party?"No APC senator will stand up and vote against the party openly on live TV. At that state, every lawmaker must stand up and declare where they stand and who they are voting for.

"We advise them against this I'll advised venture because the Senate is a bipartisan Senate and they are free by law to elect their leaders." Speaking in a similar vein, Mazi Bismarck Oji, Exec Director, Centre for the Advancement of Literacy and Leadership said people like the Imo State governor who are championing the cause to remove the DSP are wasting their time.

The brainy Prof and former VC from Imo was even made a junior Minister to someone that does not hold a PhD. "There's no service Chief from South East and South East has nobody in the Security Council. In fact, Rochas is making all these noise to drawn or divert attention from the protests over the quality of election that produced the APC Senator elect. For 99 percent of SE, a bird in hand is worth more than a billion in bush.

Tukur Buratai, has assured that the military will restore full peace to the North East in line with the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buratai gave the assurance while addressing troops undergoing training at the Nigerian Army Special Forces Training School at Buni Yadi, Yobe.

That is what the president wants'', the chief of army staff said.

Buratai later told newsmen that he was in Buni Yadi to see how the troops undergoing the Special Forces training were faring.

Buratai also explained that the school was relocated from Niger state to Buni Yadi in view of the strategic location of the town in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents.

"We know the importance of this place - Buni Yadi. This is the route they passed through to other parts of the North East and even Plateau in the North Central."It is better for us to have dominated and taken over the place'', he said, and assured the troops of their welfare and logistics need, including required equipment to prosecute the war.

Ibrahimovic, 34, who retired from international football following a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign in France, said he had been impressed with the first few days of training under United manager Jose Mourinho, for whom he played at Inter Milan.

Politics / Indonesia Allows Families To See Nigerians Convicts Before Execution by hilltop93(m): 3:19pm On Jul 28, 2016
The families of six Nigerians and eight others on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking offences were granted last visits on Thursday as their executions loomed, a lawyer said.

The lawyer, Antonius Karwayu, who represented two of the convicts, said that the convicts could face a firing squad at the Nusa Kambangan prison complex off the coast of Java on Thursday.

Karwayu said, "The families have been notified that there would be executions and the convicts had been asked for their last wishes."Their families were given until 3pm today to visit them so it is likely that the executions would be carried out tonight.

" The Attorney General's office has not announced a date for the executions but spokesman Muhammad Rum confirmed that 14 convicts would be executed soon.

The Community Legal Aid Institute, which advocates for the convicts, said the convicts facing execution were four Indonesians, six Nigerians, two Zimbabweans, one Indian and one Pakistani.

Local and international human rights groups have urged Indonesian President Joko Widodo to halt the impending executions.

In 2015 Indonesia executed 14 death-row convicts in a move that drew criticism from the UN and the EU. According to the Indonesian Justice Ministry, about 121 people are currently on death row in Indonesia, including 35 foreigners, mainly for drug-related crimes.
