His humility is genuine, and his wisdom runs deep beyond the ordinary. His contributions to our nation extend beyond the pulpit—where he ministers to souls—to philanthropy, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. We celebrate the grace of stewardship and leadership upon the life of Pastor Adeboye, fondly called Daddy G.O., as he marks his 84th birthday on March 2, 2026. We congratulate him and join his wife, Pastor Foluke, members of the RCCG, and the Body of Christ in gratitude to God for the General Overseer’s exceptional life of impact that transcends cultures and borders. We thank the Lord’s own servant for his unceasing prayers for our nation and commend his patriotic zeal, manifest determination and commitment to Nigeria's progress. We also acknowledge the unique leadership role of the renowned clergyman, whose teachings over the past five decades continue to shape and transform lives across generations in the country and beyond. Adeboye at 84: RCCG launches free digital skills programme for 8,400 Nigerians By Olayinka Latona The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Continent 3, has unveiled a free digital skills empowerment programme targeting 8,400 beneficiaries to mark the 84th birthday of its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye. The initiative, scheduled to commence on March 1, 2026, is aimed at tackling unemployment and bridging the digital divide, challenges that continue to limit economic opportunities for many young Nigerians. In a statement issued in Lagos, the RCCG Continent 3 Overseer, Pastor Johnson Funsho Odesola, said the programme is one of several activities commemorating Adeboye’s birthday and reflects his long-standing emphasis on education, youth development, and national transformation. “By investing in digital capacity building, RCCG Continent 3 seeks to honour the General Overseer’s legacy of raising empowered, purpose-driven individuals who positively impact society,” Odesola said. He explained that beneficiaries will be trained in video editing, graphic design, digital marketing, social media management, animation, content creation, and monetisation of digital skills — areas considered critical for employability and entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy. “This is not merely a birthday celebration — it is a strategic investment in the future of our nation,” he added. “By empowering 8,400 individuals with digital skills, we are creating pathways out of poverty and positioning Nigerians to compete in the global digital economy.” Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Love Transformation Academy, Pastor Olalekan Adebekun, said RCCG parishes across regions, provinces, and zones in Continent 3 will serve as study centres, with training sessions delivered via Zoom to enable participants to learn from their local communities. According to him, the arrangement will allow individuals without personal internet access or suitable devices to benefit by gathering at designated church facilities, while also providing mentorship, follow-up, and integration opportunities for participants — including non-church members. Adebekun urged youths, students, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and the general public to take advantage of the opportunity, which organisers say will foster employment, support freelance careers, and nurture a new generation of digital entrepreneurs and content creators. Love Transformation Academy, the empowerment arm of RCCG Love Assembly, Lagos Province 1, is coordinating the programme in partnership with Faith Cometh Multimedia Consultants, combining grassroots church infrastructure with technical training expertise to expand digital inclusion and national development. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/02/adeboye-at-84-rccg-launches-free-digital-skills-programme-for-8400-nigerians/?fbclid=IwdGRjcAQMH69jbGNrBAwfg2V4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHvs97X4VgGaW1QKbtiXp5fPAFXsL5k65SQvqYjWJHPMNE5kqOpkvaEbRezc-_aem_b4rEpSBnOSiS3J4vXfxxuw

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND During his time as Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Prof. Jubril Aminu presided over a tense period of student activism. An “Aluta” protest led to the rustication of several students, a decision that threatened to end their academic dreams. Four of the affected students sought help from renowned human rights lawyer and activist Gani Fawehinmi. Known for his fearless defense of justice, Gani took up their case and fought relentlessly. The battle went all the way to the Supreme Court of Nigeria — and he won. The rusticated students were reinstated and returned to complete their studies, their futures restored through Gani’s courage and commitment. Years later, fate would write a remarkable twist. During the height of his activism against the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), Gani was arrested and secretly flown out of Lagos by security agents. Unsure of his destination, he used his wit. At the airport, he requested to use the restroom. Inside, he hurriedly scribbled a message on toilet paper: “To whoever uses this toilet, this is Gani Fawehinmi. I am being flown to an unknown destination by security men. Please, let the world know.” He left the note in a visible spot, flushed the toilet for effect, and calmly returned to his captors. He was flown to Maiduguri and later transported to Gashua. At one point, while held at the SSS office, an officer offered him coffee. Though he loved coffee dearly, Gani refused, suspecting foul play. With firm resolve, he declared that from that day forward, he would stop taking coffee — and he did. Eventually, he was moved to a harsh detention cell in Gashua. After substances were sprayed in the cell, he collapsed and was rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. When he regained consciousness, a doctor began examining him. Weak but alert, Gani protested and asked not to be touched. The doctor leaned close and whispered softly so the guards wouldn’t hear: “Chief, you are in safe hands. Can’t you recognise me? I am one of the medical students who was rusticated — the one you fought for and got reinstated. I am now a doctor. Please relax… you are safe.” In that moment, the circle of kindness was complete. The man who once stood up for oppressed students had unknowingly secured his own future help. One of those he saved had become the doctor who would now save his life. Indeed, what goes around truly comes around.
