Hi guys.
I just completed ICAN professional examinations and my membership induction is in December while my interview is this month. Should I state that I have ICAN in my ds 160 application, will this be an added advantage or lead to more questions?
I am going to the US for Masters in Accounting and Information Systems. |

I tried to retrieve the form so I could continue from where it logged me out and I've been getting errors ever since.
I've been stuck here for over three hours and have accomplished nothing.
I no even know whether na network sef. Go do am later for midnight Dont use mtn network. |

I have been practicing for over 5 years now and the major I am gunning for is Business Informatics. Seriously, I suspect my age. That might strongly be the reason. I noticed you were not given the opportunity to sell yourself. So sorry for your denial |

Ferdinand234: Thank you! Was this Lagos or Abuja? What about the emails people are sending to get the dates?Wondering why the emails if it can be done through the portal. Lagos. Those people have not secured any date at all. You must have an ordinary appointment scheduled first before you can use the emergency I guess. |

Ferdinand234: My program already started online, actually doing midterm exams already. Appointment date is for Abuja in March 2021 , I was wondering if the emergency appointments are still being given,i dont mind requesting for one in Lagos or Abuja, just so I can meet the January 10 spring semester resumption. Has anyone applied for these appointments in most recent times(I saw someone post that there are no more emergency appointments, dont know how valid that is). If yes kindly share the mail to request this appointments. Thanks Go to your appointment login page, click on emergency request. You will need to provide evidence of sevis payment. The earliest date available for emergency as at 2minutes ago when I checked is 4th of January 2021. Goodluck. |

Hi guys, I filled the immigration advisor in my i20 as my contact person when filling my ds-160. I have booked my appointment.
My department increased my funding and another i20 was issued to me to reflect it. Now I noticed the name of the contact person on my i20 has changed.
What do I do now? |

sonofakin: Let's assume total cost of studies is $40,000 and one gets an assistantship of $30,000. It means the deficit is 10k right? So when you request for your I-20 and submit your assistantship letter, you need to also submit a bank statement for the deficit. So on that right side, your assistantship amount shows as 30k, then maybe self or family support should only show that 10k deficit. It should not matter even if you submitted a bank statement of 200k. My point is that you I-20 isn't showing your actual deficit, you will be relying on the VO to do the maths or you should be prepared to explain. I don't know if you understand my point Ok I now understand you. They just quoted all the amount they saw on the bank statement. I believe the new i20 will be easier on the eyes. Thanks |

sonofakin: I really don't like the way your school stated your financials. They are kind of overstating the deficit and the VO will need to do the maths themselves How do you mean ? The funds available total is more than the cost so the difference is actually going to be a surplus and not a deficit. I will screenshot the new i20 when I get it coa I got that one in fall. On the new one there will be no family fund, just assistantship of about 47k and personal funds of 5k |

Paragontek: I am trying to rebook appointment now. Saw 11 Dec as the earliest date. But as clicked on "previously refused" it started showing me no dates available. Oh no! I think they want to give other people chances. This is sad. Can you send an email for an emergency appointment explaining your i20 situation and how this has been corrected. If nothing, what's the next intake for your program? |

Wow this fully covers your cost. Book another date quickly, I'm sure you will get it this time around with the new i20. Even though my contract offer didnt say I have 100percent funding, they didnt state that on my i20.
Your school should give you a new i20 without that 50percent stated there. |

Paragontek: My interview was on the 9th of October. I was denied visa. I will share the transcript below.
VO: Good morning Me : Good morning sir Vo: Where in the US? (or why the US like my mind is telling me may be I didn't hear him well) Me: University of Missouri
VO: why Master's in Metallurgical Engineering? Me: Because I want to specialise in foundry technology and steel making.
VO: have you traveled outside the country before? Me: no, I have not had any reason to travel outside the country. VO: who is sponsoring your study? Me: I have a graduate research Assistantship. I will be working with Dr. Sey gig on a research, the x of y. Hence, the department is fully funding my study. VO: I can see 50% Graduate Assistantship here. That's strange. I have not seen such before. Me: (I tried to explain) the 50% is just saying I have 50% full time employment. Also from the I-20, there is no deficit there.
Vo: are you married? Me: no, I'm single Vo: any child? Me: no child.
VO: sorry I will not be approving your visa. This yellow paper will explain why.
Please, what do you think could be the reason? I have mailed my school and they have updated my I-20, removing the 50% there. (that's actually how the school write full funding for students, I confirmed from others). Secondly, do I need to get a letter from the school to explain why they updated my I-20?
Also, is the reason on the yellow paper same for everybody, is it generic?
Thank you. My GRA contract letter quoted 50percent but it didn't appear anywhere on my i20. Can you screenshot where the 50percent appeared on your i20? Also my i20 reflected estimated cost for 9months although my school is currently working on it to reflect 1year and make the assistantship amount section upto 47000usd What duration did yours reflect?

Ambasado4lyf: Hello fair heart. I appreciate your assistance.
Please, I humbly request you help me to clarify my thoughts.
Scenario 1
First: On my I-20 form, three dates are specified; The earliest admission date: 05 December, 2020
The start of class date: 11 January, 2021
Program start date: 04 January, 2021
While filling my DS190, I filled 02 December, 2020 as my arrival date.
My questions;
a.) Can the arrival date remain as 02 December 2020 or it should be 05 December , 2020? Should in case, I am to respond to the question when I will be arriving, what should it be? 05 December?
b.) If I were to be asked during interview when my class is starting, should it be 04 January, 11 January or 05 December , 2020.
Scenario 2: The address on the I-20 form reads that of the international student and faculty office address of the school. However, when filling the DS form, I filled the Graduate school address of the same school as my point of contact address.
My question: Could this be seen as discrepancy since the address on DS does not exactly conform with that on I-20 even though, the two addresses are within the school and are both valid.
Scenario 3: A friend of mine voluntarily filled the DS form for me because I was trying to get other things done yesterday. Towards the end, a question arise; are you the one filling this form? I told him to fill NO and instead he should put his name as the person filling the form while the signature bears my passport number.
My question: kindly, let me know if I erred regarding the above statement.
Scenario 4:
Should in case, all the above are wrong, coupled with the fact that I have submitted the DS160 from online, what can I do to effect the appropriate answer.?
Lastly, how can I know the exact monthly or annual income of a corporate business account owning to the fact that, the proceeds varies due to some factors. I asked this in order to know how to respond if such question were to be asked by the VO. I anticipate apt responses from you and other nairalanders. Thanks. The major mistake you made is in your arrival date... Your school already quoted 5th December as earliest admission date and you are saying you want to arrive 2nd of December. Border patrol will not even let you in less than 30days to your program start date....which is 4th January. |

LagosismyHome: I believe this a personal decision and it's ok.... although I am not a VO sha . Also depends on how young these kids are
you just have to clearly articulate your plan and your support system that will be with the kids and you can end by saying how it for a short time because you will be back after graduation ... indirectly using them as home ties. Lol Please see my response to just wise above this comment, what do you think? |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Hollyholy: 10:31am On Oct 17, 2020 |
justwise: How old are your kids? 6 and 3yrs old boys. My support system is my husband and mil who lives with us. Even my current job require me to stay away from home alot and they are accustomed to this. I do not want to alter their education, extracurricular activities and lifestyle they are used for a temporary trip I'm making. Also I will not be able to give them the kind of care they are used to with the rigorous activities of Graduate school and my Graduate assistantship responsibilities. I also intern to take advantage of the summer to register some more courses so I can finish my program early and return home. |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Hollyholy: 9:20am On Oct 17, 2020 |
fairheart: Leaving behind your kids increases your chance. I assume the VO will think no mother will abandon their infants or adolescent to go and stay in the US. From this angle, there is no negative impact on your approval. Ok thank you very much. |
