Travel / Re: Emirates Ban: FG Announces Possible Resumption Of Flights To UAE by HolyTrader: 1:58pm On Nov 17, 2021
In other words, you (Nigeria) capitulated!
Who didn't see this coming? You felt you could dictate to a sovereign Foreign Government, especially a wealth one like UAE, about the procedure to put in place for people coming into their own country?

Why didn't we try to do the same thing with China (our darling Creditor)?
Since March 26, 2020 (almost 2 years now), all Foreign Students (without any exception) that were outside of China as of the aforementioned date, have not been permitted to return to China till this very day because of their very strict Convid-19 Protocols put in place.
This applies to even Work-based Residents of China from certain Countries (including Nigeria), as they are yet to be allowed to return.
Forget about Business or Tourist/Visit Visa (for all Foreigners)! This one is not even under discussion.

It is rumoured that China is going to remain closed well until after the coming Winter Olympics in February, 2022.

The lesson from all this: first make your Country prosperous before trying to dictate to others.
When you borrow and beg for everything and anything under the Sun, Nobody will take you serious.

And by the way, many Nigerians have long found a way around this problem. Many have been going to UAE via Ghana and Benin Republic since our Government created (yes, we created it) this problem.

I have been reading many comments here with bemusement.
Youths of nowadays need to strongly get it into their head that a man must never hit a lady, no matter what she may have done.

It is only low and weak men that hit a lady.
Regardless of who she may be - wife, girlfriend, sister, colleague, etc., you must never hit a lady. There is no such thing as self-defense when a lady is involved.

If you come across a violent Female, the best way to protect yourself is to walk away.

And for you the so-called "wise ones" here, you might decide to "show her" you are a man just once, and that once might upend your life forever.

Remember, they are called the Weaker Sex (Gender) for a Reason. A single blow that wrongly landed on a Vital Part of her body might make you a Murderer and make you face the Hangman or spend the rest of your life in a 6x6 Cubicle.
May our lives not end with "had I known.“ Amen.

Guys, please, get wisdom! If you meet a violent Lady, your best protection is to get away from her as far as possible. One big Bad Judgment could permanently destroy your life!

Introverts have friends. We only have deep and meaningful friendships though, most of which last for a lifetime. Some of our friends are extroverts, some introverted like ourselves.

We can make friends easily but only with people who respect boundaries. Introverts thrive well within their own boundaries. You cross it, you're a goner.

Business / Re: Why Are Nigerian Banks Not Using The Credit Card System Like Other Countries? by HolyTrader: 11:55am On Oct 29, 2021
shaybebaby:
Credit card is type of unsecured loan. With no securities backing the loan amount, the risk of lenders not getting their money back is higher.

Now, risk cannot be eliminated, it can only be managed or minimised. And with nothing in place to minimise the risks of defaults, sadly it will be virtually non existent in Nigeria for now.

Things used here to minimise risks usually include borrowers to demonstrate

1) proof of places lived spanning several years ( To be double sure you won't runaway)..utility bills, payslips, electoral roll, bank statements to that address.

2) pay slips and bank statements- to determine your income and based on that, the (un) likelihood that you can afford repayments.

3) information on your outgoings/ expenses to further buttress point no 2.

4) Credit history, whether you have any current debts, your history of paying those ( previous defaults, their frequency etc) ie how you have behaved in the past with other people. If you have no history, you are riskier.

In summary, the average Nigerian will have access to Credit when they can demonstrate that their are credit worthy.

So let's be honest, how many people can demonstrate the points I have listed above ( honestly without fudging anything?)

As someone mentioned, with unemployment at the current level, it is reasonable to expect that MOST will default.

With high levels of inflations, interest rates on the credit cards will not only carry a risk premium but also an inflationary premium meaning the repayments will be higher and thus adding to the financial difficulties of the holder.

Nigeria isn't ready for such on wider scale just yet. Too many unresolved underlying issues at present.

The best Contribution so far. Bless you Sister!

Brother, don't go there! I think you should go to that Specta Website and learn more about it.
If you apply for a Credit (Loan), before the Money is disbursed to you, you will be immediately charged one-off Fees of 1% for Loan Management and 3.5% for Insurance. For example, if you are given a Loan of 2 million Naira, they will immediately deduct N95,000 (N20,000 + N75000) as the aforementioned Fees from the Loan. This is before you now start the Monthly Repayments with their huge Interest Rate.

Most Nigeria-issued so-called Credit Cards are only Credit Card in Name. Most are actually Debit Cards.

Let me give you an example:
If you have a Domiciliary Account at GTB, the associated Visa Card that comes with it (needs to be applied for) is called a Credit Card. But it is actually a Debit Card - because you can't spend more than what you have in your Dorm. Acct.

What they do is this: They (GTB) will create a special Card Account No to which you can transfer funds from the main (Dorm) Account. Your so-called Credit Card is now linked to that Card Account.
In essence, you have to fund the Card Account from your Dorm Account. You can't spend more than what you have transferred in.

In this case of GTB`s so-called Corporate Visa Credit Card, what makes it horrible is that you can fund it online via Internet Banking (you can't do it by Mobile Banking) but you cannot defund it online. You can only defund it offline at a Bank's Branch via a written application. So, if your Card was compromised, you wouldn't have enough time to defund it before a big damage might have been done on the Card. What kind of worthless Card is that?

Which Bank? For Inflows from Offshore, if the Remittance is done before 10am Nigeria Time, you can receive your Funds before 3pm the same day at GTB, provided you gave the Sender all the needed pieces of Information (Swift Code, Account No., etc.).
As for other Banks, I can't vouch for their efficiency. That's why I asked you "Which Bank?"

Having said the above, I think you should relocate your Post to the appropriate Section where you can get more information. Don't derail this Thread!

This is why it is not good for your Dorm Account to be your Primary Account. If you had opened, say, a Savings or Current Account before opening your Dorm Account, then the Savings/Current Account will be your Primary Account; and as long as this is active (having at least a transaction within a 6-month period), the Dorm will automatically remain active.

TrueNigerian300:
Yet...the fool has a church there collecting tithes from the same people he is shaming. Is it not from the same slavery jobs the Nigerians who attend his church there are paying tithe?

Bless you brother for this statement!
Why I particularly find this part of his statement offensive is that the members of most Nigerian-headquartered Churches outside the shores of Nigeria are predominantly (over 90%) Nigerians - this is the case all over the World - from Oceania to Asia to Europe to North America; and they are mostly very small Churches. It is very difficult for them to attract Native Believers in their Localities because you can't be praying mostly about "your enemies will die by fire" or preaching mostly about “Jacob paid his tithe and God blessed him with .... ," and expect people to be interested in your Church, as their own orientation is quite different from what obtains in Nigeria. That's my observation over the years.
The only one exception is Pastor Okulaja`s Church in Ukraine, and his is not a Nigerian-headquartered Church. It was founded in Ukraine, and he has been very successful because he has focused more on caring for the sheep than taking from the sheep (which is what our Church Leaders are doing in Nigeria) and he speaks fluently the 2 main Local Languages (Russian and Ukrainian).

Travel / Re: Casa Del Papa Resort In Benin Republic (Photos, Video) by HolyTrader: 4:34pm On Jul 07, 2021
I was in Benin last month.
The things I noticed.
1. Things in their Supermarkets are very expensive. For example, I had to get my loaves of bread outside from a Shop that mainly sells bread; that was after I saw a tag of 1400CFA (~N1300) on a loaf of bread which costs around N350 here. Also, I totally shelved the idea of buying Soda or Juice when I saw a price tag of 950CFA (~ N850) on a 1.5 little bottle of Coke. 1 litre is sold here in Nigeria for just N169 (Shoprite`s current price) - note the differences!
2. Electric Power never blinks. The home where I stayed didn't even make a provision for a Generator - because Light simply never goes. ***Nigeria see your life!
3. I went there with the plan to withdraw CFA using my Ecobank Visa Card, but Ecobank Card disappointed me big time. Fortunately, I had 3 backup Cards - UBA, FBN and GTB Cards. My UBA Visa Card was so good in withdrawing NGN as CFA, that I didn't bother to test out my FBN and GTB Cards. The rate charged by UBA for cross border withdrawal in Benin is far much better than any rate the Border Currency Exchange Dealers will give you. Just change about N2000 to CFA in order to have transportation money to get to the City Centre. In the City, There are several UBA branches (I noticed just 1 Eco bank branch). Interestingly, the first withdrawal I made with my UBA Card was from an Ecobank's AT Machine after my Ecobank`s Card disappointed itself.
For reference: I withdrew out 10000CFA with my UBA Card for N8,589.26. That translates to N1= 1.164. This is much fairer than you would get from the Border Currency Exchange Dealers. If you try exchanging N8600 from them, none would give you better than 9000CFA.

Additions:
A.) Benin people are very laid back, courteous and respectful. The Nigeria's swagging/bragaddo Agbero attitude will not do no one any good there - because nobody cares to know who you may be. Please do as Romans do when in Rome.
B.) Benin is far more orderly and organized than Nigeria; and also much cleaner in every way.
C.) It costs nothing to learn some French before going there. There are Software and Books to do this.
D.) Get an International Passport to travel there or any country, including African countries. It is very annoying reading people asking if they can go there without a Passport. Yes, you can, but that doesn't make it proper - because you are of a different Nationality. Unless you are going there to do illicit activities, make yourself identifiable - do this wherever you visit.

C'est fait. Bon voyage!

Properties / Chinese Builders Constructed 10-storey Apartment Block In 29 Hours by HolyTrader: 2:15pm On Jul 07, 2021
In a feat you wouldn't think - or hope - was possible, Chinese builders have constructed a ten-storey apartment block in just 29 hours.

While the erection of the building in the central city of Changsha has been hailed by the developers as the 'world's shortest construction period', the new residents of the apartments might be a little wary of the quick build.

Broad Group, a Chinese construction company, decided that taking the usual year or so to build a ten-storey apartment block just wasn't going to fit their time-frame, so they went for the much quicker option and built it in just over a day.

Time-lapse footage of the build shows a large group of construction workers and three cranes completing the high-rise building, which has been named the Living Building, in just 28 hours and 45 minutes.

They managed the seemingly impossible feat by assembling small self-contained modular units that had been built in advance at a factory.

The units, which were the size of shipping containers and made of stainless steel, were then transported to the building site in trucks.

In a scene reminiscent of the game Jenga, cranes were used to lift the units and stack them on top of each other as workers quickly worked to bolt them all into place.

In a clever design, as the units were stacked, one wall of each module was folded down to become a floor - and windows and balconies folded outwards to enclose the spaces.

Once the basic structure was finished, water and electricity were installed.

The video shows the completed apartment block which has been furnished and has simple white walls and wooden floors.

While some residents might fear that the quick build could mean that their upstairs neighbours could drop in on them - literally - Broad Group insist the floors are 100 times stronger than conventional floor plates as they are made from stainless steel plates.

The company also said the construction method could be used for skyscrapers and public buildings.

'It is perfectly suitable for luxury residences, 200-storey skyscrapers, and also idea for public and residential buildings,' said Broad Group.

In 2012, the group unveiled controversial plans to build a 220-storey skyscraper using modular units in just seven months.

But the construction was never completed amid safety concerns and a lack of government approval. The foundations of the building are now reportedly used as a fish farm.
