Go to school, get good grades, graduate, and land a rewarding job in your field. This path to success often works out, but it’s not the only way to achieve financial freedom. If there’s one thing to learn from many of the world’s wealthiest people, it’s that you can take different routes in life and still be successful. Will the non-education path work for everyone? Most likely not. But it can still be a good idea to follow the millionaire lessonstaught by the actions of individuals like Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, and Simon Cowell. Applying these lessons in your life can help you focus on what’s needed for a smart financial future. Olawale David Oyinlade the Founder of Change & Resolute All Youth Group Reveals Why He Set Up Cray TV during an email interview. Olawale explain the aim and meaning of this organization, he said "Change & Resolute All Youth is a Non-Government Organization, Created to ignite youth passions and inspire them, We are committed to promote resiliency for youth exposed to violence and support vibrant visions, our primary duty is to expand the frontiers of liberty, youth development, human right and happiness of people and we simplified this to the understanding of ordinary youth on the street." Olawale also added the reasons for starting this project. He said "We are doing this to inculcates in the youth dignity of labor, productivity and expertise, prepare youth for greater future challenges and help in reducing the crime rate in every society." Why He Choose And Setup Their Own TV Channel? Olawale said "(CrayTv_NG ) Change & Resolute All Youth normally uses social media, mobile apps, conferences and seminars as tool of social engineering and problem solving in Nigeria and responding to issues that arise in youth daily life activities. He added, Since we discovered that nowadays youth all over the world spent most of their free time watching television and its part of our vision to equipped the youth and TV is also a great source of informating youth(audience), some of our youth(the ordinary man on the street) don’t have access to internet and we really want them to benefit from us that was why our organization decide to set up an Online TV (an invention that is fast and active in transforming information). And that’s CrayTv_NG . As we speak we have a population of over 41million people and 8million of that population are in the middle class. Olawale images below

The light of days is the sweet reflection and the light railway that carries life as its passenger in the rail of life. To this, as each day comes and fades away, life reaches different junctions and junctures in its journey amidst the light that rules the day and the darkness that rules the night. Life begins as a small seed, just like the mustards, planted in soil, which by time is watered and, grows vast to become great with branches where sweet birds cast their nests, live and sing songs with pecks of mellifluousness. Great men like Oriyomi Abiodun [the music man], are not born on ordinary days; they are born on a special day. Little wonder, they are peculiar and indispensable in life. December 31st is always a day to remember that; √ a great man was born, √ a music man was sent to earth, √ a talent was unleashed, √ a dexterous man was given to bless the world in multifariousness and superfluity of music prowess, √ a man of valour was made. A man whose voice unveils the windows of heavens for a ponderous downpour of multifarious blessings; a man whose voice is the echoes of heavenly angels. A man whose voice is the earthly experience of heavenly tones; a man whose voice is the tones of angels playing the tunes of the kingdom worshippers whose domain is the throne where songs are made with authority and power. A man whose voice connects the souls of men to the spiritual realms of/with highest worship. Today, I wish you the grace to grow higher in the spirit and realm of music. May you be an honourable vessel unto the kingdom of God. May the kingdom of God be densely populated by you. May your voice be refined and fine tuned. May your voice become parts garnished with heavenly musical instruments that sound sonorously in winning more souls to the kingdom. All to His glory; making your story, SWEET! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ATELE THE MUSIC MAN.

KnowYourRightsNigeria Mobile App Launched to Increase Knowledge of Human Rights and Fight Violations Know Your Rights Nigeria simplifies all human rights in English and Pidgin languages with platforms where trained lawyers can respond to human rights issues that arise in peoples’ daily lives and where Nigerians and Non-Nigerians who reside in Nigeria can report abuse of their rights. While speaking at the National Human rights Conference 2016 which held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr. Adeola Austin Oyinlade; United Nations Peace Ambassador explained that the App was simplified in simple English and Pidgin languages understandable to the ordinary people on the street. According to Oyinlade, “we have simplified your rights in a way that you can access them at any time where necessary with just a push of button in your palms. Many of us fear any form of contact with law enforcement agents. This is largely borne out of ignorance of our rights under the law and in which many people had been exploited. This app and the web version of “Know Your Rights Nigeria” will keep you fully abreast of the whole gamut or corpus of rights available to you under the law in force in Nigeria, equip you with the information needed to stand in order to defend yourself against any infraction.” Oyinlade further explained that the content of the App includes Peoples’ rights at the Police station, how to write a Statement at the police station against being implicated, rights of Landlords and Tenants, documents that one needs before buying properties among hundreds of rights that will educate Nigerians and Non-Nigerians alike on the scope of their rights and responsibilities. ‘Know Your Rights Nigeria’ has an engagement forum where the App users can ask lawyers any question on human right issues that arise in their daily lives. The Legal Team will respond to human rights issues without any monetary charge. According to Mr. Oyinlade, “the Legal team can only respond to fundamental human rights issues. We don’t respond to business or profit making legal issues such as contracts, banking, shipping or other commercial/corporate law issues as people who need such legal services may need to contact their lawyers. The mobile App also has a platform where people can report abuse of their rights. A reporter can hide his identity if he so desires. The App also provides the emergency contacts of some government Agencies that can enforce abuse of peoples’ rights in Nigeria. The Agencies include the National Human Rights Commission, the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, the Human Rights Desk of Nigerian Army, Consumer Protection Council, Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA) among others. On the App, people who need services of lawyers but cannot afford one as a result of financial constraint can also access contacts of Legal Aid Council in order to get justice. While commending Constitutional Rights Awareness and Liberty Initiative (CRALI); the organization that powered the App for also making a provision for Non-Android phone users within and outside Nigeria to access the web version of “Know Your Rights Nigeria” through www.knowyourrightsnigeria.com, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Darcy Zotter; Public Affairs Officer of U.S Consulate, Lagos, Dr. Olu Ayeni; Attorney General of Ogun State, Mr. Ajibade Kamaldeen; Attorney General of Kwara State, President of the Nigerian Bar Association represented by the Mr. Adesina Adegbite among other dignitaries commended CRALI for unveiling such App for the benefit of the people without any monetary charge. Youth. who is a youth? Youth is the time of life when one is young, but often means the time between childhood and adulthood (maturity). Olawale David Oyinlade's view Youth is a more fluid category than a fixed age group, is as the time of life when one is young, but often means the time between childhood and adulthood. Youth is best understood as a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood's independence as a member of a community. Guide for improving and empowering youth Adolescence is a significant transition period and a unique window of opportunity to shape the healthy and successful development of future generations. To help youth grow into healthy, productive adults and citizens, CARE employs a rights-based and comprehensive approach that considers all the inputs a young person needs throughout their life. Our decades of experience with youth programming spans from girls’ education to health to economic development and more. We address the specific and diverse needs of young people, ensuring they have access to the information, resources and support they need to escape poverty for good. We recognize that poverty is inextricably linked to social marginalization and discrimination – and our experience has shown that simply providing young people with a few skills, then expecting them to conquer systemic injustices is not effective and does not lead to their empowerment. Rather, large-scale and sustainable change requires addressing laws, policies, gender norms and social and cultural barriers that stand in the way. By creating an enabling and equitable environment where young people can exercise their skills, knowledge and leadership, they are able to step into new roles and lead the change themselves. Some would say that as idyllic as it sounds- to empower youth, it is not that easy as parents, community leaders and teachers to foster this sense of ownership and leadership in children. Some might even wonder how can we put our future into the hands of tweens and teens, whose ideas span from the simple lemonade stand to lofty dreams that are ridden with logistical complications. The "how" of how to empower youth to be change agents is to let them be kids and develop their own ideas- wherever they are in the range of potential social good actions. The answer is simple- we simply let them "do." We let them dream and think. We give our youth the tools to collaborate and problem solve, brainstorm and reflect. We empower them to believe that their voice matters without judging or criticizing their ideas. The "how" of how to empower youth to be change agents is to let them be kids and develop their own ideas- wherever they are in the range of potential social good actions. While one teen might be ready to speak out on a cause to their classmates or create an after school club, another might produce a video to build general awareness, while another might make bracelets to sell for a cause. The action almost doesn’t matter as long as it is meaningful to the student and fosters a sense of purpose. As parents and adults we also have to face another reality of empowering youth. Tweens and teens are adolescents. They may be ready to inspire others one week and want nothing to do with the cause the next. The goal is to help our youth develop habits, that in the end, they can sustain without our ‘suggestions’ or prodding. We have to let their interests ebb and flow, while still talking about our own actions for good in the background, so that our behaviors and words create the foundation for a long-term lifestyle. The process of providing youth with platforms for decision-making and encouraging their active participation in creating community change. By: OLAWALE D OYINLADE |

Our Amiable Governor Why? I repeat again Why? If its because you think that you don't have any political Post to contest for here in Ondo State again that make you to be so wicked and to be inflicting total suffering on us, have it at back of your mind that History and Posterity will never forgive and forget you. This was not what you pledge and sworn to when you took the oath of office. You said #IsetakunTakun #IbukunRepete This hardship is too much, the level of abject poverty now in Ondo State especially Akure the State Capital is too high. You have deviated from the norms and value that made us to voted for you. PAY ONDO WORKERS SALARIES. Pay Us! Make Us Happy! By: Olawale David Oyinlade |
It's been long I have been expecting Journalists, Government, and National association of Nigeria students to defend the masses from the issue of #JAMB_REGULARISATION but they fold their arms while #jamb continue to make illegal money. The issue of #JAMB_REGULARISATION was raised few months ago against the #polytechnic students based on the allegation that, jamb is not giving them admission on jamb portal even when the school admitted you. Every affected students are to pay #5000 now #6000 to the account provided by jamb. After struggled to obtained jamb form with thousands, proceeded to obtained post utme with one sweat and nowadmitted to school, some are through with their programs while some are still on it, #jamb decided to suppress them with ingenuine #JAMB_REGULARISATION. The #JAMB_REGULARISATION which affected both NATIONAL DIPLOMA STUDENTS and HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA STUDENTS which causes delay for those who are ready to serve their father's land. Out of inconvenience, we are crying to the Nigeria Government, Nigeria Journalists, and National Association of Nigeria Students to please do something. Please share online with friends until our voice is heard. By Olawale David Oyinlade [CrayOnlineTv C.E.O] |
Olawale David Oyinlade his a young positive change maker passionate about transparency and peace building in Africa. He is an author, speaker, trainer, and the developer of Cray Online Tv. Early experiences form brain architecture. Young children need consistent, caring adults in order to learn build attachments, to ask for help, and to feel safe enough to take risks. They learn by exploring their surroundings through their senses and discover new interests through sight, sound, touch, taste, and touch, rather than by being required to perform specific tasks. Baby’s Space is built around these fundamental needs. While that seems like a pretty obvious approach, what makes Olawale David Oyinlade work so important is how rarely childcare environments actually meet children’s needs, especially for the most vulnerable children. Education is an adult driven system, often designed first for institutional needs, like convenience and efficiency, and for children’s needs second. Since leaving Baby’s Space, Olawale has been helping Youth shift their mindsets to find themselves in spaces from the child’s perspective. The needs of young children are needs we all share, and in listening to Olawale describe his work, it’s easy to hope that the lessons of early childhood will spill over into education for older students. Unfortunately, the influence more frequently flows in the other direction. From re-labeling less-structured time from ‘free-play’ to ‘workstations’, to a growing emphasis on executive functioning in early childhood, Olawale points to the myriad ways in which, as he puts it, “we’re doing it all wrong for the best of reasons.” In an attempt to get people to value early childhood education, it’s as though we’ve lost sight of the value that relationship building and discovery have in their own right. Thankfully, Olawale David Oyinlade work, and especially his book "Solution To Your Ambition Problem", is helping educators realize that the patterns of how we interact are set early. Creating opportunities for both young children and older children to experience how to be through play represents a tremendous opportunity to build educational systems in which the needs of children, not adults, are at the center of the work. |

Olawale David Oyinlade popularly known as McCray
Has contributed his expertise on how to Make Ondo State where is
from a very better place to live especially Akure his home town
Olawale David Oyinlade a.k.a McCray have been using article to
proof that people from his state [Ondo State] are making positive
impact in life of Nigerians.
During an email interview McCray was asked series of questions and
here are his answers!
McCray what’s your mission in Akure and why are you interested in
it?
McCray said: “Nigeria is my country and Ondo State is my state, to
crown it all I was born and brought up In Akure Ondo State Nigeria,
actually I want everyone of us to work together in making Our State
the best place ever for people to live in, which will surely happen if
we co-operate and invest in our home, [Ajo Ko Le Dabi Ile] together
we can do it if we don’t forget where we are from.
Which strategies are you using in making this dream a reality?
McCray said: “Nigerian youth are my target, because we youth are
the future of Africa and we must be equipped and prepared for the
Mantle of leadership, so youth we need to corporate and make a
change in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”
What are the things you have done?
“I did an house to house campaign in Akure this very last year
[August 23 2015] in Akure Ondo State Capital, and I discovered that
the major problem people are facing in Akure is unemployment, so
many youth are jobless, nobody to invest, governments job status is
not encouraging youth to learn, so during this campaign I discovered
that the problem encourage youths to engage themselves in an
Unlawful and Ungodly activities in other to make money. After
seeing this things as a YOUNG POSITIVE CHANGE MAKER, I
promised those I interviewed then that I’ll try my best possible in
letting all Ondo State Citizen particularly Akure the State capital
indigin to come back home and invest”
How Did you want to do it or have you done it?
“Well, am on the project, its not easy to make public announcement
on radio, Magazines, Televisions etc for me like that due to the
resource we are using [I & my Team Members] so I’ll be using
music to communicate with them all over the world”
All over the world?
“Yes”.
Why Music?
“If you take a look at what’s in vogue right now in nigeria, the whole
world at large” music is the easiest way of communicating to
people”
Why not Social media?
“We are also using social media but the reason why we also use
music is that not everyone have time to go trough social media, so
they may not see what we are passing across” and moreover not
everybody can read, so we don’t want it to be kind of sentimental,
unlike Music now, anybody can listen to music at anywhere in the
taxi, in the bar, on the street, radio, televisions even on phone and
computers, and it is also Transferable, those that can not read
[illitrate people] can hear and even sing along”

MARRIED IN SCHOOL, SINGLE AT HOME in Nigeria Institutions I HAVE been wondering where things are heading in almost every institution of learning in Nigeria Thinking about this topic, I’ve been wondering who the focus of this post should be – girls or guys or both. In almost every tertiary institution in Nigeria, you find ‘undergraduate couples’ living as husbands and wives. You find a lot of these misguided people in virtually all schools. It’s so bad that, often times, they are duly recognised and acknowledged as couples by lodge neighbours, classmates and even leaders of various students associations. Little wonder there is such an award as “The best couple of the year award” shamelessly and thoughtlessly received by students..Like I said earlier, I really don’t know the particular gender to address but let me just keep typing. The rate at which girls live with their boyfriends in their various off campus hostels is painfully alarming. Most times, these young girls are very beautiful, with bright and promising future. They cohabit with boys who are their fellow students as roommates. The lugubrious part of it is that the silly girl would always introduce the small boy as her fiancé..Our society is really sick courtesy of those that live in it. These girls collect either hostel fees or house rents from unsuspecting (and sometimes, struggling)parents and end up in the house of a boy. You struggled possibly for several years to gain admission. Then you suddenly became a prayer warrior posting and shouting ‘Amen’ at the slighted provocation. You fasted. You had one prayer point filled with promises of your loyalty and devotion to God if only He would answer your prayer. Now that He has fulfilled His part by answering and granting you admission, don’t you think He is expecting you to fulfill your own part, to keep whatever promises you made to Him??. Many of you just got admission and once you settle down (especially from your second year), crazy thoughts will begin to creep into your minds. Yes by then, the heat of the rush would have been over; If God didn’t capture you (possibly through the various campus fellowships), boys would have caught you. In my school we even have an unrecognized, unregistered but well offered course . For the guys its a course that shouldn't be carried over. Soon, they would persuade you to move in with them. Of course, they’d give you one thousand reasons to make you give in to their prodding..Before you agree to move in and live with a boy on campus, consider the reason why you are in school in the first place. What image would you be creating about yourself? Can this boy marry you in case you get pregnant for him as is always the case, or will you resort to series of abortions like many other girls before you? What advice will you give your children in future concerning this kind of things? After school, what next? Will the relationship really lead you anywhere?. This post is finally addressing the female folks. I didn’t plan it that way. Maybe it’s because they are the worst hit by the grave consequences of illicit sexual relationships. They are the ones that turn out to be the sore losers in the end. They call it school life but they don’t realize how idiotic they have been till it’s too late. You are not in school to get married. Part of the reasons why you are in school IS NOT to get the husband-and-wife experience, to see what it feels like for the boy to provide the money for food and for the girl to go to the market for food stuffs and cook. That’s pure misplacement of purpose! One guy told me that he was practically learning how to be a caring and romantic husband. Such shameless! Then you hear the girl say, “We are not doing anything, we are just roommates”. Yet she commits countless abortions before graduation..Yes, your admission has given you unlimited freedom. Yes, your parents are not there to tell you what to do or what not to do. There is even no blood relation around, so there's no fear of someone reporting you. But what about giving your womanhood respect and protecting your dignity? What about living in such a way as to have a positive story to tell the next generation (including your children) without your conscience pricking you? What Goes Around Will Definately Come Around.... Why not exercise a moment of thorough thinking....Just a tot. Let's share it with all d youth u know. I still remain who I am Olawale David Oyinlade

Side Effects of Music [ Disadvantages of HipHop Music] Music, When I did research on Music, I understand that Music is an art form, social activity or cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. But Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. HipHop music particularly in Nigeria have been affecting our health, vision, mission, and many more. One of the reason why people listen to music is to relax their mind and body. Music can make us feel relieve. Sometimes when you feel bored or not in mood, listening to music make us relieve. When you are stress is like you are thinking happy thoughts and you don't care about other people in your surroundings. Then Why are we Abusing the Music that is having this sweet and motivated qualities? However, music has many advantages and disadvantages. But most of the disadvantages are caused by the artist that compose and make the song Nigerian Youth have been losing their focus and getting corrupt on doing something demonstrated in the music listening to. you can use music in intelligence and not to display Ignorance. large majority of popular musicians are making and selling their music for no reason other than to make money, they don't care about those that are listening to it .. Either Destroying carrier or helping to build future. What I think the Nigerian music should be are: 1. To make people appreciate the world more 2. make us more confident about ourself and our skills 3. To make people understand other peoples emotions 4. To helps the economy of the area 5. Make us feel good and happy which is always a good thing! But, do they know that listening to music has advantages and disadvantages and it can affects their lives? On my own observation and on my own experience, the advantage of music can affect our health, mood, feelings, and a lot more. Also the disadvantages of music. People do not notice that listening to music has a disadvantages in their lives, It affects our health, vision, mission, and many more. Research has proved that music tunes the brain to higher planes of thinking. Also music can bring changes in brain activity levels which will enable it to shift speeds very easily on its own. Please let's make positive impact in the lives of Nigerian youth... BY: Olawale David Oyinlade Twitter & Instagram: @am_oyinlade

Genes are always in pairs and overall expression depends whether dominant, recessive or X-linked. So there is no problem when one of the genes is abnormal e.g. AS, AC. This is called a carrier state (sickle cell trait). Only when the two are abnormal then there is a great problem. Genotype Compatibility The genotypes in humans are AA, AS, AC, SS. I hadn't heard of the genotype AC until I was researching for this article and found Dr. Ademola Peter's article on the subject of genotypes and blood groups. He's also the one I quoted above and throughout this article. Unfortunately is website is currently not accessible so I can't provide link to the actual article. Anyway, I guess AC is not common in genotypes or I've simply not heard about it. But AS and AC are both abnormal take note. And the great problem referred to above that we're trying to avoid with genotype matchmaking for intending couples is the Sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease (a recessive disorder) is a very serious medical condition with high prevalence rate in sub Saharan Africa. Intending couples must make sure to know their genotypes and be sure it's compatible for marriage before going ahead to get married. So who can you marry and who shouldn't you marry based on Genotype compatibility? Someone with the genotype AA can marry across. That is there's no risk of having a sicklier for a child even when he or she marries an SS. But AA marrying an SS can only result in AS children. There's no hope of having a child with the genotype AA. But there's no danger either. Someone with the genotype AS should only marry someone with the genotype AA because if AS marries AS there's one out of 4 chances (AS, AS, AA and SS) that they will have a child with the sickle cell disease. Same applies when AC is combined. AC and AS combine will produce AA, AS, AC, SC, the sickle cell disease will be SC. Remember what the quote above from Dr. Peter said, it's only when two abnormal marry that there is a great problem. Of course there are many cases where two abnormal was combined that is an AS and AS or AC and AC or AC and AS couples and had up to five or six children without a single sicklier among them. But why risk it? What if you're not so lucky? Can you forgive yourself when you end up having a child with the sickle cell disease and put the child through the agony the disease brings when you could have easily avoided it? Compatible genotypes for marriage are: AA marries an AA. That's the best compatible. That way you save your future children from having to worry about genotype compatibility in future. AA marries an AS. You'll end up with kids with AA and AS which is good. But sometimes if you're not lucky all the kids will be AS. Like my elder sister who is AA and married an AS and was expecting to have kids with genotype mostly AA. But the last I heard two out of her 3 kids are AS; I'm not sure what the genotype of her third child is. Like I've said there's no problem having kids with AS except if eventually the kids marry people with the genotype AS. AS and AS should not marry. AS and SS shouldn't think of marrying. And definitely SS and SS must not marry since there's absolutely no chance of escaping having a child with the sickle cell disease. Blood Group Compatibility It is advisable that intending couples should know their blood groups before marriage. The blood groups are designated by the letters O, A, B, AB. Blood groups have a hereditary basis and depend upon a series of alternative genes, a fact sometimes utilized in solving the problems of disputed parentage. Equally important and linked to the blood group is the Rhesus antigen, which is positive in 83% of the British population but about 95% among the black population. Thus one can be O Rhesus positive (O+ve) or O Rhesus negative (O-ve). When an Rh +ve blood is given to an Rh - ve person, then Rhesus antibodies are stimulated; for instance, immunization of a woman can result from blood transfusion or injection of Rh positive blood. In women, also, immunization due to pregnancy can result from the passage of the Rh +ve antigen from a Rh positive fetus across the placenta into the circulation of a Rh negative woman. It must be emphasized that when an Rh-ve woman is married to an Rh positive man, the chance for her becoming sensitized to the Rh antigen and thus having children affected with haemolytic (red cell breakdown) disease of the new-born is relatively small. The risk of developing antibodies increases with succeeding pregnancies, thus if a Rh-ve woman marries a Rh +ve man, there is 1 in 143 chance of Rhesus iso- immunization during the first pregnancy, 1 in 14 during the 2nd and 3rd; 1 in 12 during the 4th, and 1 in 8 during the 5th pregnancy. The overall incidence of haemolytic disease of the newborn due to this problem is about 1 in 200 of all pregnancies. Usually, sensitization due to pregnancy practically never results in haemolytic disease in the first child; on the other hand, sensitization due to previous blood transfusion may cause the first child to be affected. Thus the importance of avoiding the transfusion of Rh +ve blood to a Rh -ve person must be emphasized. In conclusion, in view of the low risk of Rhesus iso- immunization, Rhesus factor does not constitute an absolute contraindication why a Rh -ve woman should not marry a Rh +ve man. Even in the few cases where sensitization occurs, the affected child can still be effectively treated. There is a drug that can be used to prevent sensitization if the Rhesus status of the couple is known initially. There is no risk of Rhesus iso- immunization if both couple are Rhesus +ve, or are Rhesus -ve, or if a Rh -ve man marries a Rh +ve woman. I'll conclude this article with Dr. Peter's final advice on the matter... Know your blood group and genotype. Help in preventing genetic diseases by marrying a partner of compatible genotype. Determine the Rhesus status of every newly-born child. By: Olawale David Oyinlade

Human rights in Nigeria
Human rights in Nigeria are protected under the most current
constitution of 1999. Nigeria has made serious improvements in human
rights under this constitution though the American Human Rights
Report of 2012 notes areas where significant improvement is needed,
which include:
• Abuses by Boko Haram
• killings by governmental forces
• Lack of social equality
• Issues with freedom of speech.
The Human Rights Watch’s 2015 World Report states that intensified
violence by Boko Haram, restrictions of LGBT rights, and government
corruption continue to undermine the status of human rights in Nigeria.
History since independence
In the period between its independence in 1960 to 1998, Nigeria had, in
terms of heads of State, two elected, one appointed, one military
successor and 7 coups d’etat powers. In 1979, they moved to a
presidential system in order to properly instate the right of choosing
who rules them with a new constitution. This constitution guarantees
fundamental human rights that are constantly in violation.
There was a crusade for human rights in 1985 when General Ibrahim
Babangida took power. Though short-lived, there were changes under
the Babangida administration both for the positive as well as for the
negative. Although Nigeria has been active in signing and ratifying
international human rights treaties, it has seen challenges when trying to
implement these treaties domestically.
Nigeria operates under a dualist system and cannot apply international
treaties unless they are ratified by the legislative houses of Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Nigerian constitution protects civil and political rights,
but international treaties like the African Charter also expand protection
to cultural, socioeconomic, and group rights. Because the Nigerian
constitution is supreme law, the Supreme Court of Nigeria often
resolves conflicts in favor of the Constitution, therefore restricting the
expansion of potential human rights.
Freedom of expression
When General Babangida took power in 1985 and repealed Decree N0. 4
of 1984, a law that made it criminal behavior to publish any material
that was considered embarrassing or against the interests of the
government, there was renewed hope for freedom of expression both by
the people and the media. Within the Babangida regime, political
tolerance occurred for some time. However, this brief foray into human
rights broke down when the regime began jailing its critics and firing
employees who did not promote their views and ideals. This regime
closed down more newspapers and banned more popular organizations
than any other in Nigeria’s post-colonial history.
The press in Nigeria was often subject to scare tactics and intimidation.
Journalists were subjected to “chats” with the State Security Service
that involved threatening and possible imprisonment. There were
continually newspaper shutdowns. In 1990, The Republic, Newbreed,
Lagos Daily News, The Punch, and various other newspapers were
shutdown at some point by the federal government. Critics maintain that
though measures of freedom of the press have improved, there is still
room for improvement.
Nigeria was described as “partly free” in the Freedom of the
Press 2011 report published by the Freedom House (see
yearly rankings in Freedom House ratings in Nigeria
section).
Government violations
Police force
In Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has been typically viewed
as inefficient and corrupt. The Joint Task Force (JTF) has
provided inadequate and violent response to the Boko
Haram attacks. The JTF has been involved in killing suspects
without fair trial as well as killing random members of
communities expected in involvement with the Boko Haram.
[8] This “heavy-handed” approach violates human rights
with its lack of access to a fair trial and use of discriminatory
techniques to determine perpetrators of violence.
Within the regular Nigerian Police Force, there are high
amounts of corruption and violations that include extortion
and embezzlement. The police force takes advantage of the
people by putting up roadblocks that require a fee to pass
and taking money for no legal reason. Within the police
force, there is no equal protection under the law.
The
wealthy are able to buy the police for security as well as
expecting the police to turn a blind eye to illegal activities
they participate in.

The question has. Often been asked by various groups and people: What is a SECRET CULT? A cult can be said to emanate from great and excessive admiration or belief in a person or idea. This could be manifested in rituals, praise songs, chants and worship. It is an unquestionable practice that may be difficult to dislodge even with superior argument. Secret cult could therefore be defined as a set of practices, belief system or idea whose essence is known only to the inner members and excessively admired and defended even to the point of laying down one's life. It is this doggedness and strong conviction demonstrated by members that reinforce the importance of and awe for the group especially among non-members. Renown secret cults in Nigeria include: Reformed ogboni Fraternity, Oboni Society, Eyo society [in Lagos], Ejalekwu Society [in idoma land], to mention but a few. These societies have their belief system and their main ingredient slightly protected. For instance, The Akujane masquerades is a powerful phenomenon that no person dares to see it's head as any intruder is punished with disgrace and even death. But one ‘positive’ thing about the societies is that they do not harm unless provoked and they could serve as an instrument for cleansing the society of any cultural debris and becomes dominant in the midst of social disorder. Some even serve as socialization groups that initiate men and women into adulthood asin Poro and Mende societies in Sierra Leone and the Oviaosese in Ogori land. Origin of Campus Cults What is known as secret cult in tertiary institutions started at University College, Ibadan in 1953. it was formed by nigeria’s only nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Aig-Imoukhuede, Pius Oleghe, Ralph Opara, Nat Oyelola and Prof. Muyiwa Awe. Their main objectives included: 1. To abolish convention 2. To revive the age chivalry 3. To end tribalism and elitism. Although the philosophical foundation of this group could be appropriately located in the tales of Treasure Island and the renaissance period of the fifteenth century, their ideas were both patriotic and altruistic as it was not imagined as a secret cult, but simply known as the Pyrates Confraternity or the National Association of Seadogs. Their objectives which revolved around the maintenance of polite behavior among people of different background and chivalry, portrayed the dreams of the Founders. Why did the students decide to form such a group? Nigeria in the 1940s and 1950s was on the verge of gaining political independence. The nationalistic fervor in the country gave a warning signal to the colonialists that the sun was about to set on the British empire. Trade union consciousness and militancy soared under the leadership of Michael Imuodu. Political parties sprang up in the major centers of the country which raised political awareness and questioned the continued stay of the colonialists in the country. Nigerian students were not left out of this social change. They questioned the conscription of Kings’ college students into the colonial army to fight in the World war II and eventually created a conducive background for the emergence of the popular National council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (later Citizens) (NCNC). The idea of the students was to respond to the demands of the time, enhance cultural nationalism and fight the tribalism of politics which was given a boost by the Richards constitution of 1946. It is noteworthy that the group was not to harm, maim, kill and destroy as their cohesiveness and absolute allegiance to rules made it become an elite club, only for the cleanest, brightest and the politically conscious. They tele guided political events and held important positions within the student body like President, Chief Judge, P.R.O and Secretary. Their existence was well known by students and was not associated with weird, horrorful and spiteful character of latter-day confraternities. The Anti Anglo-defence pact with Britain riot and the “Ali must go” students protest of 1978 was ably handled by members of the Pirates confraternity. Over the years, due to doctrinal differences and inability of intending members to meet required standards of the Pyrates confraternity, protestant ones started emerging like the Buccaneers, Mafia and Vikings. The early nineties witnessed a boom as every university was plagued with cult explosion such as the , Black Cats, Trojan Horse, Black Panthers, the Twelve Disciples, Mgba Mgba Brothers, Eiye, Maphites, Temple of Eden, The Jurists, Klu Klux Klan,The Executioners, Black Beret, Dreaded friend of friends, National Association of Adventurers, Black Scorpion, Eagle Club, Termites, Red Sea Horses, Knight Cadet, Sonmen, White Angels, Amazons, Daughters of Jezebel, and the Black Brassieres. SHUN CULTISM IT DESTROYS! IT KILLS |
The youth of Nigeria are passing through hard stress after
graduate from institutions, they will now go to labor
market. And i am asking this question what is our
government doing about it? i think they should create a
ministry for youth individual so that the ministry will be able
to carter for the youth. |
