It shouldn't take a 3rd manager definitely however if he suddenly plays consistent world class football for the rest of this season under Rangnick i won't mind an extension. He is still our most gifted midfielder and can slot in easily either in the defensive midfield or attacking midfield in that 4-2-2-2 formation.

My worry is that he only plays properly when he wants a pay rise.

I really don't think he sad his skill set is suited for any primarily defensive duties. He's been played in withdrawn roles at times and seemed to wander anyway and drift into wide attacking areas.

He seems to want to be influencing play,but when he's given that role he's been largely profligate.

I really don't understand how best to deploy a Pogba,really.

With this new 4-2-2-2,where the first ethos is to constrict the opposition in the middle, I wonder where he'll fit in to be a useful threat for us.

Greenwood needs to enter the gym and bulk up. The natural ability is there but he’s physically hopeless. He needs to get in shape like Mbappe or Haaland to become a modern day centre forward.

Successful modern day strikers are physical monsters(Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Benzema, Suarez, Kane, Mbappe, Lukaku) - their physique enables them to go pound for pound against towering monsters like Bonucci and Chiellini. Someone like Greenwood would get eaten up by the Italian defenders no matter what he does.

The physique of a striker is becoming increasingly important in modern day football. The talent and the technique are not enough if he’s going to the get to the very top. Dude needs to leave Manchester chics alone for now, get into the gym and become a freak.

I get what you mean,but it can be quite tough bulking up.
You would have to increase your carbs which may or may not have an adverse effect on your conditioning.

Michael Jordan actually adopted this approach of bulking up when he couldn't get past the Pistons in the late 80s.

It worked for him but later on in his career,mostly his Wizard days, he lost his spring in his step due to the effect on his knees.

I'd say a good number of those players you listed tended to be naturally physically endowed.
THey most likely had to condition themselves to be able to be more mobile.

A little bit harsh. A lot of these guys havent had much game time or had a chance to build form and all of a sudden are expected to perform in a single match. I know they werent great but I dont think we should be so harsh on these players.

For years,Mata has been surplus to requirements.
It's amazing how we even got anything out of him under LvG.
Matic has lost his legs. The last time the nigha played any decent stretch of ball for us was like 2018 under Jose.

It would be nice to have a good run in the Champion's League for a change. One thing Rangnick would have gained from yesterday is the knowledge of who is useless and who is useful amongst the older players. I don't expect to see much of Mata on the pitch or Matic in defence any time soon.

Truth is,both of them are living on borrowed time.

They really can't offer too much.
Matic has vision but he's erratic and tends to be in the Pogba mode of glamorizing his passes.

Most of those young players need a loan move. They are so small and weak .

Also, Man utd should stop forcing some of this academy player, not all of them will make it here. Those guys are potential 15 to 20 million transfer income for the club if they start packaging them well like Chelsea does.

Apart from Bailly and maybe Shaw all the senior players were poor. Mata and Lingard failed to control that midfield and considering the quality of the opposition i expected more from VDB.

He more than everyone else maligned by the previous regime should have much more than a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.

He was not in the game for most of it,to my utmost disappointment.
